Cliff Richard - should he give it up?

paulagil Mon 18-Nov-13 12:32:16

Just been watching him on This Morning (whilst pretending to work from home and surfing Mumsnet).

AIBU to think he should call it quits? His face is full of plastic and his movements are stiff. He's certainly never been a Mick Jagger but Mick still has the energy and fire of a 30 year old, despite looking so haggard (and we all know why THAT is).

So Cliff, what are you doing? You were very pretty when you were young. But now I think it's time to put on the slippers.

??

HoneyDragon Mon 18-Nov-13 12:34:29

No.

Cliff makes too many people happy to stop cliffing.

His Cliffing is inoffensive and harms no one.

Paul McCartney on the other hand....

YoureBeingASillyBilly Mon 18-Nov-13 12:34:50

Sp will be very hurt by your comments grin

SPsDoesntLikeChaffingFishnets Mon 18-Nov-13 12:35:09

NEVER!!

Leave our Cliffy alone

CiderBomb Mon 18-Nov-13 12:36:04

He's awful isn't he? What's wrong with growing old gracefully? He looks completely ridiculous for a man in his 70's and is extremely deluded about his place in the history of popular music, hell he was little more than a Poundland Elvis when he started out. He's just lucky that he has very loyal, and slightly loopy and obsessive fan base have stuck by him all these years.

Morgause Mon 18-Nov-13 12:36:34

Yes. Oh, please, yes.

In the 1960s would be good and take his back catalogue with him.

"He's just lucky that he has very loyal, and slightly loopy and obsessive fan base have stuck by him all these years."

While that fan base is alive then I think he should choose to carry on. (health permitting)

Be prepared to be inundated with pics and feel the wrath of SP!

CiderBomb Mon 18-Nov-13 12:41:06

Why has he got a dead animal on his head these days?

KoalaFace Mon 18-Nov-13 12:42:03

He's not for me is he? He's for his loyal and more mature fans.

Asking him to give it up would be like asking Peppa Pig to give it up because I don't like her. She's not for me. She's for kids.

SPsIsAgainstCliffism Mon 18-Nov-13 12:44:03

Blatant Cliffism

Feminine Mon 18-Nov-13 12:44:13

I watched him.

I like him because we share a birthday! grin

there is no reason for him to quit ...NONE AT ALL!

although leaving his tie to hang aimlessly around his neck, made him look like he'd forgotten how to put it under his collar and tie it

joydivisionovengloves Mon 18-Nov-13 12:46:31

Yes. He makes my skin crawl.

CocacolaMum Mon 18-Nov-13 12:48:44

At the risk of outing myself; My grandmother was diagnosed in 2009 with cancer. She got very poorly VERY quickly. She also happened to be a massive fan of Cliff. I wrote to him to ask for a signed photo to help lift her spirits. Sadly my Gran passed away within a couple of months of her diagnose but one day soon after while trying to cope with the grief of not having her with us I received a letter from Cliffs agent which included a signed photo from Cliff Richard with a lovely message to my Gran.
It doesn't seem like much but I found it extraordinarily comforting and my Grandad did too. He used to rib her over her love of Cliff and I know she would have adored it.
I think he should keep going for as long as he wants to, he will always be special to me.

rainbowfeet Mon 18-Nov-13 12:51:08

Sorry to say... I was literally cringing for him during that performance. Haven't seen someone so camp since I was in Legends Bar, Brighton last year!!! shockshock

YANBU
He should give it up. To me. I have been waiting for him forever. I convinced my kids he was going to marry me. Now they think I am a liar.

Gutted I missed him this morning. [Sad]

KoalaFace Mon 18-Nov-13 12:59:35

Aw Coca that's lovely.

HoneyDragon Mon 18-Nov-13 13:00:11

I love raising my arms and doing the Cliff Mistletoe and Wine Sway. It makes Christmas, Christmas.

Chattymummyhere Mon 18-Nov-13 13:15:16

Bet my grandmother loved that everything is bloody cliff, calendars, cd's, DVDs, photos, tops...

I hate him he sounds annoying his songs are so old and he looks horrible from all the stuff he has done

melika Mon 18-Nov-13 13:19:38

His best song for me at Christmas is 'Saviours day', love it.

And the kids know 'Daddys home' cos I used to sing it around 6pm after I had the call he was on his way. Slushy I know, but leave him alone he's ok!

CrispyFB Mon 18-Nov-13 13:21:06

He makes a lot of people very happy in a mostly (cringe factor aside!) inoffensive way and for that reason alone he should keep going if he wants to. He's been going for so long now, even though I could care less for most of his music, that he at least has my respect for his tenacity! Far rather deal with Cliff than Bieber.

I can envisage a similar conversation on a forum in about 30 years time about Gary Barlow to be honest wink Because he IS going to be still going. We all know it. Mind you, so might Cliff..

Morgause Mon 18-Nov-13 13:22:16

The only Christmas song that is worse than Saviour's Day is Mistletoe and Whine. I have to leave shops when either come on.

Beyond awful.

caruthers Mon 18-Nov-13 13:26:28

Keep going Cliff you're a legend m8 smile

SilverApples Mon 18-Nov-13 13:27:12

I can think of a lot of singers under 25 that I'd get rid of first.
I've never been much of a Cliff fan, more the Mick Jagger type, but he still makes a lot of people happy, and he's doing no harm. Let him toddle on.

melika Mon 18-Nov-13 13:29:50

Makes some happy memories for some kids here! What's more cringe worthy, Miley Cyrus twerking with her tongue hanging at a perculiar angle or Cliff. I know I would rather Cliff at least he can sing live too.

I'm not an avid Cliff fan but I don't mind him.

Bluemonkeyspots Mon 18-Nov-13 13:34:32

I would him pretty inoffensive till he told his "Elvis story" on loose women last week.

For those who never seen it, he was asked if he ever met Elvis (his idol) and he said no, he had the chance when Elvis was playing Vegas but because Elvis was fat at the time he wanted to wait until Elvis had slimmed down before getting his picture taken with him. Of course Elvis sadly died so he never got his picture.

I'm a massive Elvis fan so I was pissed enough that anyone would be stupid enough to turn down meeting him due to his weight but cliffs final word on the matter was along the lines of "so if you ever get the chance to meet me please say yes.....even if I am fat" (followed by creepy fake laugh)

He can't honestly believe he is in the same league as Elvis!

SPsIsAgainstCliffism Mon 18-Nov-13 14:09:32

Leave our Cliff alone. He's technically a zombie as he has been alive that long. He still does his nearly smutty calendars at the grand age of 204.

Fuck What Would Jesus Do, question what Cliff would do!

Cliff Richard for Prime Minister!

I'd say King but wouldn't want to spoil you all with his poses put on money

KellyElly Mon 18-Nov-13 14:26:02

yep, along with Paul McCartney.

Mintyy Mon 18-Nov-13 14:28:23

yes and Rod Stewart too, ffs.

EldritchCleavage Mon 18-Nov-13 14:36:52

He's still got a voice though, which is more than anyone can say for Paul McCartney. Or Tom Jones.

LaRegina Mon 18-Nov-13 14:45:34

Leave Cliff alone!

I love all his Christmas efforts. Some of them may be crap but they make me feel very Christmassy!

And actually I heard some of his 70/80's stuff in a bit of a montage on Radio 2 the other morning - and I was surprised by how much I actually enjoyed them. Am considering downloading some but am a bit scared that DH may tell people grin

LaRegina Mon 18-Nov-13 14:46:52

Having said that, Paul McCartney can fuck right off with his wobbly wobbly head. Rod Stewart is full of shit. And Mick Jagger looks scary (and always did).

HoneyDragon Mon 18-Nov-13 15:10:18

I'm always up for a bit of McCartney bashing if taya on the cards? <<hopeful>>

paulagil Mon 18-Nov-13 16:57:24

Darkesteyes Mon 18-Nov-13 17:25:53

Bluemonkey Your post shows that hes a shallow bastard as well as a creep My mum loves him

WoollyNortherner Mon 18-Nov-13 17:31:39

I think he should be left to his Cliffing because he only shows up at Xmas and then he buggers off for another year.

He's not really doing any harm, is he?

LetZygonsbeZygons Mon 18-Nov-13 17:32:27

Cliff can still sing loud and proud. no tweaking with his voice (Cheryl), no twerking (miley) although his ';moves' are a bit meh.

no offensive videos/lyrics.

Maccas( and I say this as a mahoosive Mac fan) is finished vocally, but cliffs still got it.

so another one with SP and all the other fans here! (im not really a fan as such, ive never ever found him attractive but hes a legend in all the right ways.)

ArtisanLentilWeaver Mon 18-Nov-13 17:39:53

Plus points for Cliff being trundled out at Christmas - he is the only one who remembers that it is the Baby Jesus's birthday.

Minus points - he is going to have to retire stop at some point or we will be eyeing that syrup for the next ten years.
And he does not need the money.

CiderBomb Mon 18-Nov-13 17:41:39

Blue monkey he really does think that he's in Elvis league, I also once heard him claiming that John Lennon apparently said, "before me and The Shadows there was nothing". Funny there's no record of that anywhere, John did however very famously say "before Elvis there was nothing".

Deluded old sod.

HairyGrotter Mon 18-Nov-13 17:43:56

He makes me want to kick puppies, can't stand the dick. Also, Jagger can suck a fat one, and take Paul, Rod and Tom with him as well. And, just for good measure, take Brucie too. Mangy mutts the lot of 'em

ppeatfruit Mon 18-Nov-13 17:46:50

What's wrong with growing old gracefully? Is he poor does he NEED the money from all those records he keeps churning out? He can't sing like he did he should chill at home in his onesie and a hot water bottle IMVHO grin

I'm an old gimmer and I fancied him when I was 9 but grew out of him very fast he was a fake, english version of Elvis (i didn't like Elvis though) <ducks flames>

This thread is a bit like my MiLs kitchen - scary.
Every time you open a cupboard door, there's a picture of Cliff taped to the inside. Puts me right off making a cup of tea.

EatingAllTheCrumpets Mon 18-Nov-13 17:56:51

Never!

Cliff needs to keep on going forever. When I have children they WILL be Cliffers just like me

NewtRipley Mon 18-Nov-13 17:59:28

Morgause:

My favourite line ever:

Christian Rhyme??? Made up words!!!

SuperMuddle Mon 18-Nov-13 18:03:58

Yes. I saw him performing on telly last year, and he has lost his voice. Age can be cruel, but better to admit that you aren't as good as you were than to ask your fans to forgive increasingly poor performances.

I have to admit I have never been a fan of his; his music is mawkish and he is arrogant and smug, however I don't think that people should stop simply because I don't personally like them. I think he should give up because he simply can't do it anymore.

LetZygonsbeZygons Mon 18-Nov-13 18:07:46

Newt geek alert here. Misteltoe and wine was in a musical, a stage play I think before someone picked it for Cliff? Cliffexperts can elaboratye.

that's all I know.

Of course he should stop. Stop now. But bless him, then we would all have to pick on someone else. Whoever mentioned a Gary Barlow thread in 30 years time is bang on! Lest we forget there might have been one 10 years ago...

Cocacola that is a lovely story smile

BabyMummy29 Mon 18-Nov-13 19:04:00

Sorry but he is totally ridiculous.

TSSDNCOP Mon 18-Nov-13 19:13:54

TBF the last picture looks the very best. Maybe if he could give up he could look like that all the time instead of pinching about in white trousers and ill advised leatherwear.

I do like a bit of Wired For Sound personally.

No. For two reasons.

1 - his original rock n' roll was fucking awesome - Move It! - and it wouldn't be Christmas without Saviour's Day and Little Town on my iPod in the kitchen while we eat breakfast (although I can leave Mistletoe and Wine and that dreadful Auld Lang Syne/Lord's Prayer mash-up).

2 - his calendar is a highlight for me - it never fails to make me laugh rather loudly in Clinton's.

Long may he reign (and I rather suspect he'll outlive us all, as I'm of the belief that Cliff actually died some years back (aged about 300) and was replaced by a convincing robot).

Cliff is a knob. The likes of Roger Daltrey, Pink Floyd, Queen are all getting on a bit but they are still awesome and incredibly cool still. I was born in the 70s and Cliff wasn't even cool when I was a kid. The likes of Saviours Day and Mistletoe and Wine make me [boak]

Cliff
Bono "I pay fuck all tax" Dontknowhislastname

BTW - I'm still chortling at seeing the "music" video of Cliff roller skating.

Patchouli Mon 18-Nov-13 21:41:00

Cliff Richard for example.....

I wish people wouldn't encourage him.
Justin's Cliff Tumble skit has him to a tee. How vain must he be to have cast himself as Heathcliff?

SPsIsAgainstCliffism Mon 18-Nov-13 21:43:34

Long Life Cliffy

ghostonthecanvas Mon 18-Nov-13 21:56:33

FreudiansSlipper Mon 18-Nov-13 22:38:45

why should anyone retire from doing something they love. He is still selling music and people still pay to go and see him. He has never been cool but he has many fans

daisychain01 Mon 18-Nov-13 22:42:00

Love Cliff's gospel "why should the Devil have all da good" music.

I wish we'd all been ready ...

Small Corners is a wonderful under-rated album. So is 'Silver'.

Cliff is a legend in his own (leather) underpants. And his wine from his vineyard in Portugal is reasonably gluggable as well >* hic *< wine

Maryz Mon 18-Nov-13 22:44:57

Cliff was on the Late Late Show on Friday, which is usually a sign of being on the way out down.

I hate him much less than Macca. And a lot less than Gazza who is aiming to be the next Macca. Though Cliff's antics at Wimbledon really, really, really, really piss me off.

Morgause Tue 19-Nov-13 06:30:54

Gentle Readers,

Can I ask those of you who are old enough to cast your minds back to the Eurovision Song Contest of 1973. Cliff was representing the UK (again) with a fairly awful song - Power to all our Friends.

However, it was not a classic year and students (in my case) and families countrywide were gathered in front of the flickering screen thinking we were in with a chance.

It was all going very well, despite the dodgy jester outfit, and hopes were high. Then 41 seconds in he did that thing with his legs. Howls of disbelief filled the air as he blew it. Such was the hysteria in our communal TV room that we were sprawled on the floor in a state of hysteria for ages. We'd recover a bit then someone would stand up and do an impression and we were once more lost to hysteria. My friend Chloe laughed herself into an asthma attack.

It's my belief that he should just have retired quietly at that point and never assaulted my ears again.

Those fortunate enough never to have seen it may not want to click on this link. It's an image you will never be able to erase. I know, because I never have forgotten it.

41 seconds in - brace yourselves -

www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpy7joxNkMk

I hope Chloe isn't on Mumsnet. If she is, sorry, Chlo.

HairyGrotter Tue 19-Nov-13 07:00:22

Those legs!!

Even the horror doesn't detract from my wish I had been a student in the 70's, though! Amazing! envy

colleysmill Tue 19-Nov-13 07:26:21

Just a useless fact I thought I'd throw in there.

Morgause Tue 19-Nov-13 07:31:48

I hope he didn't do the choreography as well colley But, thinking of Mr T, maybe he did ......

Millenniumbug1 Tue 19-Nov-13 08:09:59

The wine tasted fine,
Power to the vine.

Can't argue with that!

ppeatfruit Tue 19-Nov-13 09:15:23

Right - Elton John should give up he can't sing any more

Paul Mcartney (and I say this sadly 'cos i used to fancy the pants off him ) can't sing any more and should give up.

The Who are a joke esp. fascist Roger Daltrey (my sis will hate me for that).

Cliff Richard should stop pretending he's 32 and give others a chance

Madonna (see above) grin

Dinnaeknowshitfromclay Tue 19-Nov-13 09:59:45

Cliffy should not be seen in public with a decomposing marsupial clinging to the top of his napper. Just saying.....

ppeatfruit Tue 19-Nov-13 10:41:53

milleniumbug Do you remember him bringing out a song where he's pretending to be a teenage hoodlum who's nicked his dad's car? shock He must've been 55 or so shock with a vile yank accent too. It made me want to throw up.

BTW OP YADNBU!!!!!

EldritchCleavage Tue 19-Nov-13 10:42:51

I saw The New Who with Ringo Starr's son on drums (Zak Starkey?) about 5 years ago and they were still mind-blowingly good, which is a lot more than can be said for almost all their contemporaries.

Cliff is not cool, or sexy, or even normal. But he is not horrible either, and as far as I can tell has never done anything bad to anybody, so we should let him warble still under his dead marsupial hairpiece.

ppeatfruit Tue 19-Nov-13 11:34:16

Well he hasn't 'come out' to help anyone else has he? He lives in a bubble IMO.

mitchsta Tue 19-Nov-13 12:00:15

I think he should only be allowed at Christmas time. Like baubles and mulled wine.

Yes. Nothing to do with his age, he just is, and always has been, crap.

Just watched the Youtube video.

Hahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Thank you. I was having a really shitty day. That was the first time I smiled.

The thing that annoys me about him is he won't just come out. We all know he's gay, it's the worst kept secret in showbiz.

paulagil Tue 19-Nov-13 12:09:32

Or shurely Mistleto and Wine, Mitchsta!

paulagil Tue 19-Nov-13 12:12:02

You can 't say that Cliff is gay!! I only said that he should retire... shock

Back2Two Tue 19-Nov-13 12:16:01

Thanks morg I had a real giggle at that grin

Oh I'm sorry he should retire and continue to live with his ex-priest 'companion'

ppeatfruit Tue 19-Nov-13 12:27:13

We used to live in the area around Cheshunt (where he's from) and we KNOW he's gay! It's sad that he feels he can't come out (maybe because of his born again Christianity I don't know).

EldritchCleavage Tue 19-Nov-13 12:27:16

People don't need to come out if they don't want to. Hetereos don't tend to make public declarations of their sexuality, why should gay or bisexual people? But it is sad if he feels he can't, for whatever reason.

Anyway, that's quite enough discussing what Cliff does with his bits. Or doesn't.

ppeatfruit Tue 19-Nov-13 12:33:18

The thing is when you're a high profile person like CR you can do a lot of good by being up front about your sexuality due to the stigma still attached to being gay (I'm thinking of the terrible bullying that goes on in schools) .

HoneyDragon Tue 19-Nov-13 12:34:42

thanks Cliff is not cool, or sexy, or even normal. But he is not horrible either, and as far as I can tell has never done anything bad to anybody, so we should let him warble still under his dead marsupial hairpiece thanks

^ absolutely

Agree ppearfruit
Plus, with the exception of Andrea Dworkin I can't think of anyone in the public eye who has kept a heterosexual relationship hidden.

ppeatfruit Tue 19-Nov-13 12:47:27

And you don't get bullied (sometimes to death sad angry) for being hetereosexual.

ppeatfruit Tue 19-Nov-13 12:49:23

Sorry wrong spelling for heterosexual!

Chippednailvarnish Tue 19-Nov-13 13:45:15

EldritchCleavage Tue 19-Nov-13 13:46:22

True, but on the other hand it isn't for us straights to tell gay people how to go about being gay.

Fluffytent Tue 19-Nov-13 13:50:48

Didn't Mr Tumble's dad write that song for cliff?

Manchesterhistorygirl Tue 19-Nov-13 14:03:49

It's my firm belief that cliff, brucie, mr tumble, tony Blackburn and other assorted talentless, erm, people have got some sort of hold over the BBC and that's why you can't get them to just stop!

I loved that article about cliff, he proper gives me the creeps. The leathery faced, shirtless automaton that is he.

paulagil Tue 19-Nov-13 14:12:39

STOP, ladies, STOP! This isn't a thread about cliff's sexuality. This is a thread about whether Cliff Richard should stop singing. At his age. For money.

spanky2 Tue 19-Nov-13 14:31:49

I would rather Brucie retired . I have to watch strictly on fast forward . I could watch cliff though .

SPsWouldCatFishNev Tue 19-Nov-13 14:32:47

No he shouldnt

Leave thee old chap alone

EldritchCleavage Tue 19-Nov-13 14:49:41

Erm, I think referring to 'the old chap' was rather unfortunate, given recent posts. I now need a frontal lobotomy.

SP: I always thought your Cliff crush was a joke but this thread has made me realise you actually want to suck his aged, leathery cock

rockybalboa Tue 19-Nov-13 14:57:04

Him and Macca in a rocket to outer space. Thank you please. I fear much the same outcome for Messr Barlow in 30 years time...

neiljames77 Tue 19-Nov-13 14:57:13

Yes.
And so should Peter Andre.

ppeatfruit Tue 19-Nov-13 15:01:19

What's wrong with looking and acting your age and retiring ffs? (we're talking about multi millionnaires here) Give others a chance.

EldritchCleavage Tue 19-Nov-13 15:08:49

And seeing rockybalboa has reminded me, it's not just the singers. Sylvester Stallone needs to put down the human growth hormone and stop trying to make action films. As does Arnold Schwarzenegger.

SPsWouldCatFishNev Tue 19-Nov-13 15:11:42

NoArmani That is vulgar.

grin

I do not!

forgetmenots Tue 19-Nov-13 15:17:50

NoArmani ffs I just spat tea everywhere

brew

ppeatfruit Tue 19-Nov-13 15:30:57

Eldritch There's so many effing film stars who should throw away the botox, wigs and fake tan.Don't they realise they just look stupid .not young? and often the face lifts make them look like someone else or ducks grin

EldritchCleavage Tue 19-Nov-13 15:39:57

Definitely, ppeat. Not that I'm remotely against older people featuring in cinema, you understand. I just don't want them to try and pretend they're still 37 instead of 73.

ppeatfruit Tue 19-Nov-13 16:03:02

Yes I agree Eldritch and then they'd give someone who IS 37 the chance to play a 37 year old and they can play the 73 year old. Have you noticed the judges on Strictly? there's Craig Revell H with a hip replacement and the face of a 20 yr old shock!!

TheBigJessie Tue 19-Nov-13 16:23:23

colleysmill maybe that's why Justin Fletcher dresses up as "Cliff Tumble" and sings Power To All Our Friends, then!

spanky2 Tue 19-Nov-13 16:31:48

grin

Geckos48 Tue 19-Nov-13 16:33:42

I think he is the devil incarnate, but I always have

any tosser who can sell a version of the Lords Prayer for his own fucking profit and call himself a Christian is an utter cunt in my book.

He is dreadful. He should have gone and rotted by now but that pact with the devil is obviously holding strong.

EyeOfNewtBigtoesOfFrog Tue 19-Nov-13 16:34:25

It would be unthinkable for Cliff to retire, he'll probably go on for another 40 years but I do think while he's still "got it" he really should come out - spectacularly and with huge fanfare.

(disclaimer - if he is indeed gay)

LetZygonsbeZygons Tue 19-Nov-13 18:53:05

Justin Fletchers dad wrote a song called 'baby you're dynamite' that Cliff recorded.

its a brilliant song, if anyone can link it.

Geckos I think the profits from millennium prayer went to charity?

Louise1956 Tue 19-Nov-13 18:56:53

no reason for him to give up as long as people still want to see him. if he can still get an audience (and it seems he can) why should he give up? I daresay most of his fans are older people now, but what of it? music is not just for the young.

HairyGrotter Tue 19-Nov-13 19:16:18

Hahahahahaha Geckos wins the best Cliffy post, for me.

Whoever said Peter Andre needs to fuck off, also wins my absolute respect!

BabyMummy29 Tue 19-Nov-13 21:43:39

My XSIL used to work for the woman who lived next door to him and she said he definitely batted for the other team. Don't know why anyone actually thinks otherwise

Millenniumbug1 Tue 19-Nov-13 22:28:18

A Richards is not just for Cliffmas,
He'll go on for ever and ever!

Loobylou123 Tue 19-Nov-13 22:46:16

I was quite impressed he could still hold a tune. Most of the old rockers lost it years ago!!

Geckos48 Wed 20-Nov-13 07:25:14

Lip service, If he actually cared about charity he would have released the single with his own money and given all proceeds to charity, not made sure he paid himself and everyone else and then popped the rest of the cash in a bloody collection box.

it reminds me of Paul Mcartney (of all the Beatles to survive why do we have to put up with him) who did a 'charity day' on his London tour and gave the profits of one night of his tour to charity. Then David Gilmour came forward and pointed out that Macca is one of the richest people in the world and could afford to give the proceeds of the whole tour to charity without telling anyone, which is what Gilmour does, lives comfortably and gives the rest of his cash away because he doesnt need it.

I hate that ilk of pop star, who piggy-back on charity to make a buck and particularly those who make themselves the poster boy for Christianity and then sell versions of the Lords prayer, ffs.
They make me shiver deep inside, like I have a nasty STD or something.

ppeatfruit Wed 20-Nov-13 08:18:53

The reason he can hold a tune and does look good for his 85 years grin is the Way of Eating he follows that I do as well but it still doesn't change the fact he should retire gracefully.

Geckos48 Wed 20-Nov-13 10:30:44

No, the reason he can hold a tune and is still breathing (I cannot bring myself to say he looks good) is because of his pact with the devil.

sashh Wed 20-Nov-13 11:06:43

Pact with the devil and botox.

Just imagine you have the power to retire just one person permenantly, would it be

Cliff
Macka
or Brucie
?

Geckos48 Wed 20-Nov-13 11:08:29

Macka. He gets everywhere.

And by 'retire permanently' you do mean 'pull the plug' don't you?

EyeOfNewtBigtoesOfFrog Wed 20-Nov-13 11:08:56

Oh god McCartney would have to be the one.

At least Brucie and Cliff are good at what they do, even if what they do is excruciating.

forgetmenots Wed 20-Nov-13 11:13:12

Nope it's got to be Brucie for me. Cliff gives me entertainment through threads like this, and Macca gets a pass because of past genius. Even if he does have a cat's bum face

Brucie is infecting my screen every Saturday, poor Tess Daly looks genuinely stricken. And that's someone who puts up with Vernon Kay the rest of the time!

ppeatfruit Wed 20-Nov-13 12:03:00

Bruce has improved on SCD since he's got new contacts and or they slowed down the autocue for him poor old bugger.

Paul was a real great he can be excused now

Cliff was never great and is a prat so he must be the one to be 'retired'.

forgetmenots Wed 20-Nov-13 12:07:45

Good argument ppeat.

I suspect with Christmas around the corner the Cliff resurgence will make me change my mind.

SPsWouldCatFishNev Wed 20-Nov-13 12:18:38

Maybe he reads MN and his return is because of me?! shock You lot are so welcome

Sing on Cliff, sing on

EldritchCleavage Wed 20-Nov-13 12:20:16

I live in a Cliff-free zone-apart from SP's posts, I never come across him. You lot need to review your entertainment choices if Cliff is intruding into your lives. Stick to BBC Four and Radio Three. Job done.

mitchsta Wed 20-Nov-13 13:02:08

Brucie would have to go for me I'm afraid. He's always given me the creeps...

ppeatfruit Wed 20-Nov-13 14:32:13

thanks forgetmenots The other thing that pisses me off about Cliff is that he seems to have an ego the size of Gt. Britain; he never sounds humble or unsure of himself. You're right Eldritch I must stop listening to R2 grin.

LaRegina Wed 20-Nov-13 14:34:34

Ooh Macca would be permanently retired so he can go off and wobble his head somewhere private.

Brucie could stay as long as he just reads the autocue and stops trying to make jokes. He's harmless isn't he.

But Cliff should stay. Christmas isn't Christmas without him!

bluebayou Wed 20-Nov-13 14:54:22

Can"t stand him or McCartney . Why don"t they just pack it in .

grin

Chippednailvarnish Wed 20-Nov-13 19:02:41

I can't fucking stand Cliff, but casting aspersions about operation Yewtree is uncalled for and in very bad taste.

NewtRipley Wed 20-Nov-13 19:05:20

Nigella

That's horrible

He has spoken about his sexuality (he is open about the fact that he lives with a man but thinks beyond that it's none of anyone else's business what he does in the bedroom0. He has also campaigned for same-sex marriage.

So you are well wide of the mark in implying he is a paedophile or abuser.

Reporting your post

YoureBeingASillyBilly Wed 20-Nov-13 19:14:03

" I always thought he looked like he had a few skeletons in the closet IYKWIM."

no. I dont know what you mean. I think we all know there is no 'look' that gives away a child abuser. what a ridiculous, ignorant comment.

engage brain before posting nigella.

raffle Wed 20-Nov-13 19:19:08

Good God Nigella

LetZygonsbeZygons Wed 20-Nov-13 19:20:49

Nigella shock. cant believe you said that.

SPsWouldCatFishNev Wed 20-Nov-13 19:24:48

Geez Louise! How did I miss that.

I don't have a clue what you mean but then again I don't go around stating people look like child abusers.

Fucking hell.

MaryZygon Wed 20-Nov-13 19:42:32

Bloody hell, Nigella.

You don't fancy getting that comment removed? I'm sure you didn't mean to say it.

cjel Wed 20-Nov-13 20:02:19

NIGELLA - seriously?

It has to be Brucie for me I never liked him in the 70s either, his ego is so big now its crazy

WelshWereRabbit Wed 20-Nov-13 20:07:09

Can I just say that you tube clip is the funniest thing I've seem in ages. Thank you for sharing!

Onesleeptillwembley Wed 20-Nov-13 20:07:58

I think you mean operation Fernbridge, nigella.

paulagil Wed 20-Nov-13 21:04:25

Nigella means Operation Facelift. Everyone knows that.

MorgauseIsNotBlinking Thu 21-Nov-13 07:51:22

WelshWereRabbit I'm glad you enjoyed it but I'm afraid it will haunt you forever.

You know when people see the face of Jesus or Mary in household objects? I saw Cliff in a scrunched up chamois leather yesterday. Should I put it on ebay?

EldritchCleavage Thu 21-Nov-13 11:31:17

If you think Cliff fandom is bad, have a mosey over to the I fancy Boris Johnson one. It will chill the very marrow of your bones.

cloggal Thu 21-Nov-13 11:56:18

I can't accept that there is such a thing, Eldritch. I won't.

EldritchCleavage Thu 21-Nov-13 11:57:40

I did my best, but that OP would not listen to sense. All that Boris talk just got her going. She went off to watch vids of him on YouTube.

cloggal Thu 21-Nov-13 12:02:52

When when when will MN get a [vomit] emoticon?
