To ask if anyone can help me find 'Brown Ted'?

(65 Posts)

Bit of a specific request, I know. A couple of years ago we lost DS1's special teddy. I trawled through everywhere, rang company and they had discontinued it. Cant find it on Ebay or anywhere.

If any one has one, he would love it. He never quite got over it. If he could 'come home' for Christmas, that would be amazing!

'Brown Ted' is brown, obviously, Has 'cuddles' sewn into his foot. A checked bow. Bought him from boots when he was a newborn.

Am willing to travel far & pay what is needed, obviously.

CocacolaMum Feel all blush now! I spent months trawling internet, as did my DM. confused

greeneyes1978 Mon 18-Nov-13 11:48:26

Wow that's pricey! I reckon someone has seen your post and put one on ebay!

Did someone see this thread and make that listing?
£15 for a second hand Boots teddy. Wtf.

HettiePetal Mon 18-Nov-13 11:49:07

Awww. Well done, Cocacola.

greeneyes grin

KoalaFace Mon 18-Nov-13 11:50:04

What a quick and happy ending!

TeaAndCakeOrDeath Mon 18-Nov-13 11:53:08

Auww, glad this has turned out well! I've look ebay for the toy my DS loves to maybe get a back-up just in case but its £40 just for a mothercare cow! Like 4 times what it cost new!

It is expensive, I know. Maybe you are right greeneyes & Fleurdebleurgh

It is weird. I have seriously looked loads on ebay.

Oh well, if this is the only option..?

CocacolaMum Mon 18-Nov-13 11:54:54

haha don't worry I did the exact same thing the other day. I had been looking for a sweet I had as a child for near on a decade.. posted on here and within 5 mins someone had named it and found a photo.. DOH!

Happy to help x

TeaAndCakeOrDeath What toy is it?

It won't be the same you know.

Do you have a picture of his original teddy? I'd buy him a new one and wrap him up with a letter from the old teddy and picture to make it look more realistic. The letter should say that while he can't come home because he is busy having adventures he has asked his friend who wanted a little boy to play with to come and look after your DS.

DoJo Yes it is. Thank you! CococolaMum posted it too! wine

CocacolaMum Mon 18-Nov-13 12:01:37

the listing says make an offer so that's what I would do! You never know they might have relisted it and now just want rid. I would offer £5 or something and let them negotiate you up.. If you were prepared to travel then it would have cost you more in petrol

BloominNora Thats a lovely idea! DS1 has just turned 11yrs though, will know may suspect the letter is from me grin

We have recently moved back to the exact house we lost it from, years ago! So am going to say that the person who had him, noticed us back and returned him. Or something along those lines!

DoJo Mon 18-Nov-13 12:04:13

Good grief - I only looked away for a second and somehow 20 minutes snuck past before I posted! I hope your son has a very happy Christmas with his friend back...

Thank you DoJo

CocacolaMum I think I will just do what you suggest.

DS1 will be happy perhaps secretly so

Hadnt finished before posting hmm

He will be surprised. He has long thought we wont find him. I do look in boot fairs/ charity shops now whenever I am at one.

TeaAndCakeOrDeath Mon 18-Nov-13 12:19:36

IfIDontKnow Its this one

Oh my! It is pricey TeaAndCakeOrDeath

Wish we had one, I would of sent it to you.

Hamsolo Mon 18-Nov-13 12:27:41

My parents did this for me, I think. I have only just realised. I am 36!

Hamsolo grin What happened?

Hamsolo Mon 18-Nov-13 13:14:58

My little brother took him out on a supermarket trip and lost him. I was absolutely bereft. A couple of years later my dad got a job at a post office on the same street, and found my missing bear behind the counter. He'd been "adopted by the counter staff as a mascot" for all those years, and it was a huge and happy coincidence. And I believed that for 26 years at least, despite the fact that Albert came back without the stitches up his middle where I'd given him surgery (!) and despite knowing that my dad spent his lunchtimes in the local charity shops! It actually only dawned on me a few days ago what my dad must have done.

It doesn't matter though, strangely. I still love that bear. And this one has been with me much longer now.

DeWe Mon 18-Nov-13 13:39:40

That's lovely Hamsolo

What a fab story Hamsolo

sad I didn't get sad

I made the offer, and sent a message too. Didn't get a reply. So in the last couple of minutes I tried to bid and it said the buyer wouldn't except because my account didn't have a credit card on it?? confused

cozietoesie Tue 19-Nov-13 10:42:18

That's a standard ebay block (no cc on file) which the seller will have set for all her auctions. Nothing personal to you.

cozietoesie Tue 19-Nov-13 10:42:59

She may still get back to you.

I hope so. I am rooting it didn't sell, being so expensive. Am really disappointed.

cozietoesie Tue 19-Nov-13 10:55:05

What's weird is that it's not in her completed listings. Maybe ebay is having a Tuesday morning moment and needs to get itself sorted out.

Its not? I'll go and have a look.

Fleta Tue 19-Nov-13 11:35:36

'Brown Ted' looks oddly familiar. We have a huge black bin bag of toys in the attic. I'll have a look and see if we have one.

Fleta If you had Brown Ted that would be amazing!

Fleta Tue 19-Nov-13 11:47:40

I'll go and have a look in a while (it might end up being later as I sometimes struggle to get the door open so might have to wait for OH).

That's perfect. Thank you!

Fleta Tue 19-Nov-13 14:15:16

I'm so sorry, the bear isn't in the bag. I have no idea where it is.

I'll keep my eye out for it.

Oh no! Thank you for looking anyway.

I'm so disappointed. I was so close to getting him back. sad

It sounds silly but I've always felt awful that we lost him.

Hopeful bump out of desperation

WinterWinds Wed 20-Nov-13 10:10:10

Oh I know exactly how you feel, Ds lost his beloved bear when he was 5 or 6.
I have searched in vain for a replacement and eventually gave up.

There was another lost toy thread on here a few weeks ago and I suddenly remembered "lost bear" so had a look on ebay and "think" I have found him. I am thinking of getting him for ds for his birthday in May.......he will be 18!!

I hope you find Brown Ted soon!!

WinterWinds Its an awful feeling, isn't it? sad

Glad you found 'lost bear'. Let us know how he reacts! That's a fab idea.

QuizteamBleakley Wed 20-Nov-13 11:10:50

Slightly outing myself here, but I'm on several of those Facebook new & used baby / toddler pages in and around the Ipswich area; I'll do a search through and see if the eBayer is trying to sell it on one of those. Happy to go collect for you, if so.

<please hold caller>

QuizteamBleakley That would be great! wine Thank you

Bump. Brown Ted is still missing.

MommyBird Thu 21-Nov-13 21:46:24

My DD1 has a teddy that she has had since birth, she is almost 4!

I will keep my eyes peeled in charity shops/carboots etc!

Thank you MommyBird

CustardOmlet Thu 21-Nov-13 21:56:30

DS was given a standard mothercare Bear when he was born, so when it was in the sale I bought a back up just incase, although he appears to have adopted his Ewan the dream sleep as his favourite teddy!

QuizteamBleakley Fri 22-Nov-13 11:56:21

I've trawled various 'Baby / toddler items for sale' groups on Facebook in and around the Ipswich area. Nowt so far (although I am astounded at the shite people actually sell!) Have saved your posting & will keep me eyes peeled. Fingers x'd!

Thank you QuizteamBleakley wine

Still looking.

cozietoesie Wed 27-Nov-13 09:09:55
