Listening to radio 1 with kids about

AIBU to expect to be able to have radio 1 on in the morning while we have breakfast without having the kids hearing things like "can't be arsed" or "crap" both of which I wouldn't want my children repeating. Am I just a total prude? I realise that being the wrong side 30 I'm too old for radio 1 but still...

azzbiscuit Thu 14-Nov-13 19:22:12

You're the wrong side of 16 to be listening to radio 1.

It's time to head over to Radio 2.....

I've been there since Moyles left R1

Heartbrokenmum73 Thu 14-Nov-13 19:26:33

YABU to listen to Radio 1 in the morning full stop.

I caught five minutes of Grimshaw while in the newsagent one morning. Grim is right. What a twat grin

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit Thu 14-Nov-13 19:26:56

It is tricky, mind you I was listening to radio 4 this evening and "crap" etc was used on a programme. It can be hard to avoid these things!

bitemabum Thu 14-Nov-13 19:31:11

Mmm as I suspected the world has moved on and left me with ken Bruce! Don't get me wrong I swear like a trooper but I thought there were rules about these things

CocacolaMum Thu 14-Nov-13 19:33:30

I have listened to Radio2 and Radio4 for years. I don't really relate to radio1 anymore. I am 31

Meglet England Thu 14-Nov-13 19:33:37

Yanbu. I love radio 1 but I don't like the swearing. We only have radio 1 on in the car so I usually turn it down inbetween songs.

bitemabum Thu 14-Nov-13 19:40:07

I love radio 4 but it's a bit dreary first thing.

Meglet England Thu 14-Nov-13 19:46:18

I have radio 4 for wake up and bedtime.

Yankeecandlequeen Thu 14-Nov-13 19:46:57

Radio 1? didn't realise it still had listeners.

bitemabum Thu 14-Nov-13 19:50:26

Bedtime is 4 all the way but the kids like abut of cheesy music to start the day, 2 has rubbish music and I can't bear adverts on the radio but maybe better than my dd arriving at school stating that she "can't be arsed"

Yamyoid Thu 14-Nov-13 20:26:27

Radio 6 is the answer.

cbaanymore Thu 14-Nov-13 20:31:01

I love radio 1 and I'm 52, I prefer the music to the other oldie stations but I agree some of the chatter is stupid. More music less chat please.

GirlWithTheDirtyShirt Thu 14-Nov-13 20:31:19

Radio 2 is fucking awful. Dreadful music and often dull DJ's - the ex Radio 1 bunch being notable exceptions.

It's no alternative for those of us being chased away from Radio 1.

I don't really mind the minor swear words. I Think of them more like lazy language really. DD is picking up a Brummie accent, I worry about that far more!

Yama Netherlands Thu 14-Nov-13 20:33:05

Yes, Radio 6 is the answer.

kerala Thu 14-Nov-13 20:34:14

I had to complain about Radio 4. Was picking DH up from station with both DDs in the car it was 6.30pm and their play included words like prick and bugger. Brushed off my complaint though hmm

NedZeppelin Thu 14-Nov-13 20:35:45

6music all the way. It's fab and for old fogeys who still like a decent tune

DoItTooJulia England Thu 14-Nov-13 20:38:44

Nothing wrong with a brummie accent!

bitemabum Thu 14-Nov-13 20:39:32

Love radio 6 but sometimes find I'm not quite ready for it first thing. Really enjoy mark Radcliffe, and the other one who's name escapes me, in the afternoon. When did it become ok to say crap and arse and prick at any time of the day?

Mylovelyboy Thu 14-Nov-13 20:41:13

Think you are going over the top to be honest.

bitemabum Thu 14-Nov-13 20:41:46

And I love a brumbies accent by the way. Very warm accent I always thought.

bitemabum Thu 14-Nov-13 20:43:07

Sorry for spelling, on my phone, shit keyboard, fat fingers.

RedPencils Thu 14-Nov-13 20:43:47

I want the chat of Radio 2 with the music of Radio 1.
Alternatively a p45 for Grimshaw would suffice.

chalkythecat Thu 14-Nov-13 20:45:14

I like Classic FM. Better class of presenter... wink

Heartbrokenmum73 Thu 14-Nov-13 20:46:16

I'm a Brumbie grin

bitemabum Thu 14-Nov-13 20:52:22

Apologies again for the brumbies thing, although it's kind of cute

Willabywallaby Thu 14-Nov-13 20:59:00

I still listen to radio 1, there's a massive jump to radio 2.

stardusty5 Thu 14-Nov-13 21:00:15

Hear hear redpencils! I was a radio 1 devotee until recently and was open minded to Nick Grimshaw after moyles, but lately his show has become one LONG plug for whatever event theyre doing eg The Teen Awards. Constant phone numbers and terms and conditions. Has he run out of names to drop?!

I find Chris Evans a bit smug and annoying, but I miss the music if i spend too long on R4.

Channel hopping it is!

Heartbrokenmum73 Thu 14-Nov-13 21:01:45

No, no, I like Brumbie! Can we keep it?

CharlotteBronteSaurus Thu 14-Nov-13 21:05:42

4 is worse for swearing
I nearly choked on my pasta during the last series of ISIHAC (broadcast at 6.30), when a play on words centred around bits of a phrase sounding a bit like "cunt"
I utterly failed to explain away to dd1 why daddy was laughing so hard...

Joysmum Thu 14-Nov-13 21:12:56

I left when ampules did.

Now it's Absolute Radio if I've got a digital radio and either radio 2 or Jack FM if I don't

RedPencils Thu 14-Nov-13 21:19:18

Back at ya Stardusty! He talked about nothing but how fantastic a time he had at Glastonbury for weeks. On and on. STFU!
And He's beyond shit at interviewing. He'll ask a question and then answer it by talking about himself.

ClayDavis Thu 14-Nov-13 21:22:15

We switch between a selection of Absolute stations and 6music at work. Have gone back to radio 1 this week for the first time in 6 months. It's quite refreshing after a long break. It's ridiculously repetitive otherwise. I think afternoons are better than mornings on there at the moment.

cbaanymore Fri 15-Nov-13 16:57:16

I agree, Scott Mills on radio 1 in the afternoon is the best, plays plenty of music and is entertaining as well. Grimmie in the morning is grim, full of himself, I hate to say it but I miss Chris Moyles even though I can't actually stand the man.

Willabywallaby Fri 15-Nov-13 17:14:52

It's Greg I like blush

FarmerSueTickle Fri 15-Nov-13 17:28:45

6 Music all the way. Plays a mix of old and new stuff. I've discovered a lot of new music through Radcliffe and Maconi that I'd never have heard if I stuck with Radio 2.

Plus, Steve Wright is a cunt.

MrsFruitcake Fri 15-Nov-13 17:35:39

Radio 1 is just awful, and Nick Grimshaw needs a kicking.

Radio 2 much better IMO. Or Absolute 80s if you're in that kind of mood.
