To ask you to help name my business?

DrSeuss Thu 14-Nov-13 12:50:39

Crocheted hats, scarves etc. I refer to myself as a hooker so have no problem with the name being slightly, er, risque!
Thoughts, please?

There is a fashion for*"The xxxxx Company"* style namings at the moment.

So say you live in Chichester - "The Chichester Crochet Company" or similar.

Just send me a cheque once the profits roll in....

boldness fail

MummyBeerest Thu 14-Nov-13 12:56:30

'Hooked on Ewe'

DrSeuss Thu 14-Nov-13 18:00:45

Or hats. Mostly I make hats, Minion ones, dog ones, owl ones and so on.
I thought of Mad Hatters but several friends work in mental health and wasn't sure if it was OK. Hat Trick?

DrSeuss Thu 14-Nov-13 18:02:59

I like Hooked on Ewe but believe me, the town where I live really isn't classy enough to use as the name! I could call it "Teen Pregnancy Capital Shite Footie Team Crochet" I suppose?!

phantomnamechanger Thu 14-Nov-13 18:13:19

Made for ewe?

Top Hats ?

The Hokey Crochet (that's what its all about)?

Sounds good to me phantom - am wondering if I live in the same place as OP though (Teen Pregnancy Capital Shite Footie Team etc) so hoping you might be local too!!!

MrsLouisTheroux Thu 14-Nov-13 19:16:54

I like sue and pom's ideas the best. Put them together:
'Happy hooker's hand jobs'.

vestandknickers Thu 14-Nov-13 19:18:51

Head cosies? (like tea cosies? See what I did there?)

or Head cases?

(I'll accept a free hat as payment when you make your first million)

MulberryHag Thu 14-Nov-13 19:23:35

Never mind the name, send a link so we can buy your animal hats! DD is still at the stage where I can dictate all her fashion choices, so I'd love some sweet animal hats!

ZombieMonkeyButler Thu 14-Nov-13 19:30:56

As amusing as Happy Hooker's Hand Jobs is grin, I'm not 100% sure of the sort of internet enquiries you may receive hmm.

I'm so useless at things like this - I like Hooked On Ewe though.

I'm also wondering where the teen pregnancy capital actually is. Lots of places have a shit football team grin.

MrsLouisTheroux Thu 14-Nov-13 19:31:50

DrSeuss Thu 14-Nov-13 19:47:04

Give you a clue-Phil and Kirsty ranked us bottom.
Another clue-we have a transporter bridge, one of only two in the UK.
Clue three-we gave the world Chris Rea, Brian Clough and Amelia Lily. Oh, and Paul Daniels. If it helps, we're really sorry about two of those!
Anyone got it yet?

iklboo Thu 14-Nov-13 19:54:52

Here's Hooking At Ewe, Kid

iklboo Thu 14-Nov-13 19:56:36

DrSeuss Thu 14-Nov-13 19:59:21

Well done! That's us. Smoggies, we're called. DH and I aren't natives but the kids are.

DrSeuss Thu 14-Nov-13 19:59:57

And I like the Casablanca reference.

bubalou Thu 14-Nov-13 20:02:07

Don't know if someone has said it already but if you are going to have a website looking on sites like - go daddy should help you find a name with an available domain.

Rather that then you settle on a name that is taken. smile

DrSeuss Thu 14-Nov-13 20:06:27

Thanks, Bubalou. That is useful advice.

softlysoftly Thu 14-Nov-13 20:18:12

Who are you aiming at?

What is your price point?

Where will you be selling?

Geographical area?

Need to know before we name.

DrSeuss Thu 14-Nov-13 20:45:59

Mostly kids.
Adults who enjoy animal scarves.
Adults who like crocheted cowls/ scarves/mitts
Tenner and under in the main.

Something along the lines of Woven Whimsies, or Whimsical Weaves (this sounds like you make wigs though!). It needs work, but I like the reference to your pieces being a bit more whimsical than the norm.

Minion Thu 14-Nov-13 21:41:46

Yay for smoggies!
Yarn in yarm?
I've got the husband, a fellow smogmonster thinking on. He's normally quite good with these!

FTRsGotAShinyNewNN Thu 14-Nov-13 21:46:55

How about 'The Yarm Yarn' (not sure where in smoggie-land you live and I know Yarm is more Stockton)

I do like the crochety lady too smile

iklboo Thu 14-Nov-13 21:48:13

Smoggie Oggie Oggie grin

DrSeuss Thu 14-Nov-13 22:46:45

Minion- tell the Smoggie DH that I'm currently between Yarm and Stockton. I work on the coast but not quite far enough south to be in Woollyback country! Woollyback could work as a name in other regions but not here! We use it the way the Irish use Kerryman and the English talk about the Irish!

'Canny crochet' would add in the north east connection

rabbitlady Thu 14-Nov-13 22:56:33

cosy crochet.

LimitedEditionLady Thu 14-Nov-13 23:09:54

Does this make sense...

Hooked on Ewe

Omg someone said hook ewe but i didnt read all the thread before, spooky!

DrSeuss Thu 14-Nov-13 23:31:56

Canny is quite a way north of us.
Great ideas, ladies. Thanks

fannyfireworks Thu 14-Nov-13 23:37:41

The xxxx Company is the best suggestion. Puns are awful!! Cheesy cheap and twee

I like The Crochet Company. Or like someone else said a reference to where made, so King St Knits

whitesugar Thu 14-Nov-13 23:52:05

I think its important to have the word crochet in the name because that is what people will search for whether its online or in the town/village. I would go for e.g. Chicester Crochet Collective. Good luck with your venture. My sister, early 40's and one of my colleagues who has recently retired are crazy about crochet - hey another name idea - Crazy about Crochet! LOL good luck, let us know how you get on.
