I've come across this on countless threads.

"My cousins best friend is an extremely famous actress."

"I once slept with a very famous football."

"I got a message on Facebook from a well known singer saying I was beautiful and wanted to take me out on a date"

I understand the point of privacy but why not just say who it is, as you are hardly going to get George Clooney coming on MN disputing it.

Is it so people beg to know who it is, or because it's actually bullshit and this "very famous" actor was in actually just in Emmerdale 7 years ago for a couple of months?

Salmotrutta Sun 03-Nov-13 14:04:08

I wonder how a football gets to be famous... wink

Perhaps if it was once kicked by Pele?

JimmyCorkhill Sun 03-Nov-13 14:04:39

"I once slept with a very famous football." grin grin grin

It's attention seeking.

YABU to wonder about this - who cares? wink

Haha oops thats brightened up my day grin

I actually own a very famous football!

(not really)

My favourite was the sister of a famous musician. She was very sweetly, and very rightly, proud of her brother's success but was trying to conceal who he was.

Several mumsnetters "is it Calvin Harris?"

I guess for some people it would out them.
For others they don't want people begging for info/gossip/to meet/get autograph.

For me I'll happily admit of the people I've met for whom others might have heard of... I've met Cerrie Burnell (CBeebies) a few times as dd2 is missing her arm.
The other person I knew, I wouldn't ever give their name because the main contact I had with them was when I caught them shoplifting, age about 13. Which is kind of ironic considering what they are best known for. But I wouldn't give their name because that was a long time ago, I know the person they were with was the ring leader, and I don't think it's fair on them to drag it up. They're not really famous, but if I said how you'd know them, I guess quite a few people here would know who I was talking about.

Howsuper Sun 03-Nov-13 14:14:05

Because it would out them!

It's very identifying. I've mentioned a few on threads but anyone that knows me would know it was me from the list.

There are loads of journalists on MN - and that's without the professional internet trawlers and investigators.

These posters are protecting themselves and their identity. Sensibly, IMO.

Why do you want to know who they are, anyway?

mrsjay Sun 03-Nov-13 14:36:07

because it would out them and maybe cos them to be sued by the very famous footballer , there is a mumsnetter on here who has great stories but never mentions names well sometimes she doesI think she used to work in the media or something, but her stories are amazing not seen her in a while though

mrsjay Sun 03-Nov-13 14:36:47

yes she was lovely i liked that thread

ZombieMojaveWonderer Sun 03-Nov-13 14:38:39

I want to know because I am nosey!

The Calvin Harris thread was brilliant. His music is not really 'my thing' but I really like him because he seems to have a lovely family grin

mrsjay Sun 03-Nov-13 15:17:37

Mrsc is it you hmm

RevelsRoulette Sun 03-Nov-13 16:31:38

Probably to avoid having their inbox explode with journalists offering them all sorts for their story.

Auntidote Sun 03-Nov-13 16:36:30

Because they're making it up and know no-one of any interest to anybody (apart from their family & friends)?

elliegoulding Sun 03-Nov-13 16:37:40

Haha ... my best friends sister is actually a famous actress - well she was literally was in 'Emmerdale 7 years ago for a few months' lezzing off with Zoe Tate!

I don't understand why you would mention it in the first place if you have no intention of saying who.

Haha Mrsjay... I'm afraid not, we are all fairly big standard in my house.

BOG** standard.

mrsjay Sun 03-Nov-13 21:31:45

It says Calvin Harris is an only child confused

He isn't an only child. The last interview i read with him said that he started djing in his room after his brother and sister went to uni. Google the interview in the Independent.

Gullygirl Mon 04-Nov-13 01:02:21

He actually has an older brother and sister.

WhatHo Mon 04-Nov-13 01:02:59

I met Vernon Kay once. I'm happy to admit it.

Actually I was so drunk I went up to him in a nightclub and kept bugging him to admit that he did English with me at uni. It was only after he walked off disgusted, that I realised he was actually famous, and not at university with me.

Does that help? smile

DaddyThunder Mon 04-Nov-13 01:18:57

me amd my othwr half are best friends with Sarah Douglas...

HettiePetal Mon 04-Nov-13 07:51:43

I got eyed up on Worthing station a few years ago by a megastar. I really did. He was trying to catch my eye and everything.

Normally I wouldn't divulge. It will out me and I'm not sure if I could handle the press intrusion.

But, since it's you OP, and you seem discreet......

It was Bodger from Bodger & Badger. I could have had him.

True story. But please, just between us. OK?

See if it had been badger I would have been in there like a shot!

Mintyy Mon 04-Nov-13 08:24:58

I sincerely think you need to get out more op.

Mintyy Mon 04-Nov-13 08:26:17

"lezzing off" what a charming turn of phrase.

HettiePetal Mon 04-Nov-13 08:27:40

See if it had been badger I would have been in there like a shot!

Well - there is more to my story than I'm prepared to share. That's all I'm gonna say.... wink

Phwoar! Wait till the Daily mail get a hold of this one.

I can see Badger Baiting making the headlines again wink

Fleta Mon 04-Nov-13 11:32:13

I've slept with an ex-England rugby player and a ex-England cricketer.

One wasn't single at the time (I know now, I didn't know then!) and it would pretty much out me grin
