to hope they replace Brucie with Claudia once he finally retires? Or if not, at least with another woman.

I'm still catching up on catch up, but I'm really enjoying having two women presenters and Claudia is really sweet and funny.

Anyway, I'm fed up with the main male and sidekick female format of so many programmes - whether as presenters or in drama.

Sirzy Mon 07-Oct-13 13:48:32

I don't particlary like her TBH.

As long as they are decent presenters I don't really care about the sexes either.

YDdraigGoch Mon 07-Oct-13 13:51:15

I hope they replace Tess with Claudia, with or without Brucie

EdithWeston Mon 07-Oct-13 13:51:43

I'd like to see a seasoned hoofer.

Perhaps Lionel Blair? Or Angela Rippon? Or Leslie Judd?

MardyBra Mon 07-Oct-13 13:52:16

Yes, Tess is bland.

Seeline Mon 07-Oct-13 13:52:16

It was a joy to watch this week without Brucie mucking everything up. Claudia is brill and she and Tess are great together.

MardyBra Mon 07-Oct-13 13:53:00

Oh yes, Angela and Claudia does it for me. Lionel Blair would be great even if not technically a woman.

MardyBra Mon 07-Oct-13 13:54:48

As long as it's not that dreadful Anthony Beak.

My money is on it being Anton - a familiar face, good relationship with the other dancers and knows what he is talking about.

X-post Mardy grin

Ghirly Mon 07-Oct-13 13:55:52

I don't mind Bruce but Tess is awful. She is very robotic reading her cue cards.
Claudia seems much more at ease interviewing the dancers and her sense of humour appeals to me! I'd replace Tess with Claudia...... I'd accept Bruce still plodding along if I got Tess to resign!

nennypops Mon 07-Oct-13 13:56:00

I mostly just want Brucie to retire, preferably today. Saturday's programme went so much better than usual, mostly because we didn't have to sit through all Brucie's non-jokes, struggles with reading cue cards, and false hysteria about things like standing ovations.

But yes, I agree that two female presenters would be fine. The other reason why Saturday's programme went well was, quite simply, that Tess and Claudia did a good professional job, which was a really refreshing contrast to what we normally get from Forsyth.

LessMissAbs Mon 07-Oct-13 13:56:16

Bruce Forsyth and a much younger woman in a dress is a formula that hasn't changed since the 1970's.

Claudia is good though, I like her.

Can't stand Strictly though. I guess its the fact that Bruce and Tess take it sooooo seriously that makes people watch.

MardyBra Mon 07-Oct-13 13:56:27

He's like all the cheesy bits of Brucie reincarnated.

QuenellefireAndDamnation Mon 07-Oct-13 13:56:28

I agree. I'm really glad they didn't look for another male to replace Bruce on Sundays or when he's ill.

I think Tess and Claudia both do a good job. In fact I think Tess is better in Bruce's role than in her usual one.

Who got kicked out yesterday BTW? We don't bother watching the Sunday one.

EdithWeston Mon 07-Oct-13 13:56:29

I don't mind if it's a man or woman. But I would like it to be someone with some background in dance.

Ghirly Mon 07-Oct-13 13:57:22

Am I the only person who loves Anton? blush

I've met him a couple of times and he honestly is lovely.

MardyBra Mon 07-Oct-13 13:57:43

"Who got kicked out yesterday BTW?"

Please don't say. I'm still watching.

MardyBra Mon 07-Oct-13 14:01:25

I find it really odd that Anton is still dancing tbh. They have all these hot young guys in their 20s, and he's like some gentleman walker for the elderly contestants.

Sirzy Mon 07-Oct-13 14:02:51

Ghirly - I like him to. I think he would be a good presenter for it.

There's an SCD thread in Telly Addicts where you can see the result.

I like Anton too. He's a great ballroom dancer & the people I know who have met and worked with him say he's lovely and particularly good at teaching kids to dance.

MardyBra Mon 07-Oct-13 14:04:36

What about Anton's racist incident?

bearleftmonkeyright Mon 07-Oct-13 14:06:40

Antons fab, I saw his and Erins show about a year ago and it was amazing. I love Claudia as well. She has always been extremely entertaining.

Ghirly Mon 07-Oct-13 14:08:34

We have good taste bear

ShadeofViolet Mon 07-Oct-13 14:09:49

Fuck off with all your Anton hate.

What has he ever done to any of you? ignore that awful wall programme

Ghirly Mon 07-Oct-13 14:10:08

I thought Anton's racist comment to be a non issue tbh - and I say that as a mother of a mixed race child.

Maybe I'm wrong though, I don't know.

bearleftmonkeyright Mon 07-Oct-13 14:11:54

grin @ ghirly

ShadeofViolet Mon 07-Oct-13 14:14:13

As long as they dont try and get big headed knobber James Jordan to do it.

He makes me stabby and i wouldn't be able to watch if he was everywhere with his flaring nostrils.

FruityPops Mon 07-Oct-13 14:16:18

I think the young woman / older man format is overused and encourages society to sideline older women. I definitely don't think men age better than women most of the time (an excuse often used). Many of the men on telly have never been 'lookers'.

bearleftmonkeyright Mon 07-Oct-13 14:18:17

Going off subject a bit I do think they could shake the format a bit. Same sex couples should be included. The program where they choose which boy is having which girl is tiresome.

Onesleeptillwembley Mon 07-Oct-13 14:24:03

Stringy Tess is really false. Bruce is just embarrassing. The whole show should get an overhaul and new presenters. Not dancers from the show though.

They should leave the bloody format alone, it's been changed lots since the show started. However, I would happily see Tess and Bruce go; they are without doubt the worst thing about the show. Claudia is fab and would be a superb lead presenter.

bakingaddict Mon 07-Oct-13 14:29:57

I thought Tess was awful on Saturday night as main host just too bland and generic and she just isn't main presenter material regardless of her gender. I believe you can have 2 female presenters together look at how well Mel and Sue do BBBO. I don't mind Claudia she has a bit more personality but you need a presenter who can deliver a bit of banter with the judges and contestants and Tess is incapable of this IMO .

Don't like Tess at all as she's so wooden and Bruce just blabbers on over people all the time. Very irritating.

Onesleeptillwembley Mon 07-Oct-13 14:33:14

Ethelred I worded it badly - I meant presenter/presenting wise, I realise I did say the whole showblush. I agree, the format works, just the presenters don't.
I don't care what the sexes are, I'm certainly not silly enough to want another woman for the sake of it. Just two people that are warm, sincere, and don't make each other and us cringe.

Don't worry onesleep. I'm in a bad mood and also very over-protective of strictly (apart from the god-awful presenters!) wink

Onesleeptillwembley Mon 07-Oct-13 14:41:03

Oh you didn't come across as grumpy at all. Just talking sense. smile

Echocave Mon 07-Oct-13 14:45:46

I'm beginning to think its not a particularly easy job to present live telly (!). I think Tess was wooden at the weekend because she was watching the clock and trying to get through the show. Claudia's sections were a bit easier to handle from a timing/running order point of view.
Tess was just as guilty as Bruce of wittering while the judges talked over her or applause broke out.
Maybe after this year they should ask Susanna Reid to do it?!

As I've said on the SCD thread, they should go back to the old format of everyone doing a Waltz and a Cha Cha Cha in the first two weeks. They're the 2 "easiest" dances and it means people get a chance to compare like for like.

It was blatantly unfair to have some couples doing tricky dances this week when others had "easier" ones. They keep the Argentine Tango until towards the end and should do the same with the Charleston and the American Smooth - those lifts are hard and the dancers benefit from a few more weeks training under their belts.

<gets off soapbox>

Totally agree Frankel, it's very hard to judge loads of different dances and it was nice when they kept certain dances for the later weeks. I wrote to the BBC a few years ago about the changes and short shrift from them. I think they shouldn't have set or props in the early weeks either. I am a professional misery guts where strictly is concerned! wink

MadMumToThree Mon 07-Oct-13 14:58:41

I'd just like Bruce to change his script occasionally!

*got short shrift....

Ethelred, my dance teacher said if she had her way (and she's a very senior teacher/examiner in this country) she'd ban them from dancing "off syllabus" for the first 4 weeks - that would stop all the faffing about/props etc grin

Apparently Lorna Lee screen tested for Len's role as head judge but they didn't like the idea of an older woman hmm

Bowlersarm Mon 07-Oct-13 15:07:37

No, I don't want Claudia to replace Bruce. I can't bear her.

mignonette Mon 07-Oct-13 15:09:14

I know Strictly is a great show, great family entertainment and all that but why do I have the nagging feeling that the day I sit down and watch this show is the day that I am officially middle aged?

It just makes me feel old.

VonHerrBurton Mon 07-Oct-13 15:16:42

Well I can't stand Claudia. I find her unfunny and a bit cringey in the same way I feel about Miranda.

So don't really care who does what as long as she's not involved. She seems to be love her or hate her. Meh about Tess and Bruce, although his presenting shelf life has clearly expired. A good clearout and start again needed.

Just watch next time claudias got a dress on, she pulls it up and spreads her legs open to within an inch of goods on show, when they're up doing Lens Lens or whatever. And she needs her fucking fringe cutting....

No, i don't like her smile

mrsjay Mon 07-Oct-13 15:27:28

I dont like her that much she is ok but she comes fromt he davina Mcoll school of telly presenting all very quick and a bit breathless shouting ,I like tess though, and anton is for the elderly lady I love him,

mrsjay Mon 07-Oct-13 15:29:25

och never feel old watching strictly whats not to like celebs dancing sparkles everywhere and Artems pecs <shallow> and a bit of a shimmy it is much better than xfactor imo

ziggiestardust Mon 07-Oct-13 15:32:27

Bruce is just awful, he is the reason I stopped watching the show. He's just so dull and boring, he's an utter has been. In fact, I'm not really sure he ever was. Just another ten a penny bore who was in the right place, at the right time.

Unbearable. And relentless.

mrsjay Mon 07-Oct-13 15:34:18

I am so glad Sky plus was invented i know skip through all the drivel and bruce

sashh Mon 07-Oct-13 15:36:06

It's time Brucie retired, I might start watching if he did.

campion Mon 07-Oct-13 15:39:15

grin lol Echocave at Susanna Reid doing it

Dh loves Claudia and hates Tess so it would stop an awful lot of wittering round here if they'd just hand it to Claudia. Agree about her fringe, though.

elcranko Mon 07-Oct-13 15:48:10

I would love for Anton to replace Bruce. I don't mind Tess but do prefer Claudia. I would love for Zoe Ball to present the main show actually smile

VonHerrBurton Mon 07-Oct-13 16:13:58

Keith Lemon? Pleassssse, just for ONE show! ;)

MardyBra Mon 07-Oct-13 16:58:28

You have got to be joking VonHerr.

Claudia and Zoe would do me nicely elcranko.

HootShoot Mon 07-Oct-13 17:05:20

I loved hole in the wall! Clebs in unflattering lycra getting knocked into a pool by a moving wall - what is not to love??

Maybe Aleisha or Arlene could take over from Brucie?《innocent face》

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Mon 07-Oct-13 17:05:47

I like Claudia better on ITT I think. Although I do like having Ian back...

mignonette Mon 07-Oct-13 17:57:49

I'm not an X Factor fan either. Strictly just seems so sedate somehow. Maybe its something for when I'm a little older although at 47 I should be 'old enough'..

JumpingJackSprat Mon 07-Oct-13 18:02:33

soneone mentioned mel and sue from gbbo doing a fab job on that.. maybe they should do strictly too. or maybe just sue cos she is fantastic and very funny.

mignonette, sign yourself up for so e ballroom/latin classes and you'll see there's nothing sedate about it wink

3boys1cat Mon 07-Oct-13 18:40:02

I really enjoyed strictly this weekend. Actually watched all of it on catch up (usually have to fast forward through all of Brucie's jokes). Claudia made me laugh out loud and that's not easy to do. Mind you, Vanessa Feltz's dance left me with a tear in my eye, so obviously I'm not quite in my right mind atm!

Littlestgirlguide Mon 07-Oct-13 18:43:02

I'm probably the only person in the country who actually loves Bruce. I think he's fab. It's not meant to be a serious dancing programme, it's Saturday evening light entertainment and he's good at that.

MardyBra Mon 07-Oct-13 18:44:49

"it's Saturday evening light entertainment and he's good at that."

He was reasonably competent back in the 70s, when we had lower expectations and he could still remember the lines.

mignonette Mon 07-Oct-13 18:46:54

Frank I know. It's me. I'm being silly. My DH was a trained ballet dancer and I saw the blood, sweat and tears that go into all forms of dance. I just have this thing about the programme. Probably because I am old enough to remember 'Come Dancing'.

TidyDancer Mon 07-Oct-13 19:03:50

It was much more pleasant to watch without Bruce, but none of the presenters on there are any good IMO.

MardyBra Mon 07-Oct-13 23:59:44

Given that Eddie Izzard was recently voted MN's most loved celeb, he should get the gig. He could do it in French.

adalovelacelaptop Tue 08-Oct-13 00:35:34

Claudia is fab, but the programme really needs an older woman in it to present. The BBC performs a cull when a woman starts approaching 50 so I bet there are loads of talented older women presenters who would be up for the job. They could have a guest presenter every week like they do on have I got news for you. (with Claudia there every week).
But was nice to see two women together phnoar phnoar.

ShakeRattleNRoll Tue 08-Oct-13 00:40:11

I love Claudia she's a great person but I can't wait to see the back of Brucie and Cat Dealey tbh

SamHamwidge Tue 08-Oct-13 00:53:49

A thought occurred to me the other day

If Bruce never retires and keeps on going till he dies, Strictly is on for 3 months of the year...

So he has a 1 in 4 chance of dying during Strictly run!

MardyBra Tue 08-Oct-13 17:07:27

confused

Onesleeptillwembley Tue 08-Oct-13 17:42:47

Samhamwidge there's two responses to your post;
He dies onstage every time he presents strictly. And
He actually died years ago, only nobody has told him.

PresidentServalan Tue 08-Oct-13 17:48:05

I fucking HATE Brucie! Sadly he shows no sign of retiring even though he can't read the autocue, can't pronounce the names of the new dancers and his jokes are shite! I wish the BBC would just sack him, it would do wonders for their viewing figures! (Sorry but he gives me the rage!!) Tess and Claudia would be the dream team although I wouldn't mind seeing Graham Norton host. And it's not even an age thing - Ronnie Corbett was quite good when he hosted as a one-off. It was so much better this week without Brucie!

PresidentServalan Tue 08-Oct-13 17:49:08

SamHam and Onesleep grin

CaptainSweatPants Tue 08-Oct-13 17:54:45

I liked Ronnie Corbett when he stood in one year
