to think the Scooby Doo gang would have realised that every ghost and creature they meet is actually the caretaker in a mask?

Or some other villain who would have got away with it if it hadn't been for those pesky kids!!

Why do they always run away when they see ghosts and monsters grin

Haven't they learnt anything? Of course, it would make the stories a lot shorter.

Aha! But sometimes there's more than one creepy person, and anyway Shaggy et al. are thick as mince young, trusting and strangely naïve. smile

RevelsRoulette Sun 06-Oct-13 09:45:02

and it can't help matters having to work with shaggy and scooby who are always high as kites. Hence the munchies.

MatildaWhispers Sun 06-Oct-13 09:48:13

Ah but I only realized that myself relatively recently whilst watching with my children. I never saw that pattern as a child, and the Scooby Doo gang are still only teenagers really, give it a few years grin

Chopsypie Sun 06-Oct-13 09:50:44

Revels, I recently researched the scooby do movie (the live action one) and when shaggy is on plane he meets a girl and asks her name. He says Mary Jane (US slang term for marajuana) and he tells her that's his favourite name.

EstoyAqui Sun 06-Oct-13 09:52:48

Chopsy. Why were you researching Scooby-doo? I'm obviously studying the wrong thing!

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans Sun 06-Oct-13 09:55:40

grin I remember my DF making that point when I was watching Scooby Doo as a kid, Kim. I'd never thought of it before.

Of course it was all ruined when they brought in Scrqppy Doo and the rest....

MardyBra Sun 06-Oct-13 09:56:50

And why do they always pair Scooby and Shaggy together?

Chopsypie Sun 06-Oct-13 10:01:25

Argh I meant re watched! Damn iPhone!

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans Sun 06-Oct-13 10:06:27

Good point Mardy.

Mardy I know. Two idiots who ALWAYS run into the monster...really helpful to have them together...

Scooby Doo was easily my favourite cartoon when I was a kid. I never got bored with the obvious denouement.
Nowadays I can see its formulaic crap but it was pitched perfectly to me as a 7 year old smile

BalloonSlayer Sun 06-Oct-13 10:14:21

I think it's an astonishing achievement that it is still being broadcast and some of the episodes were made in 1968!

Latara Sun 06-Oct-13 10:14:23

I used to watch it as a kid and wished that just once the ghost could be a real ghost!

Mardy it's less that Scooby and shaggy are together, but more that Fred and the girls are together. Nudge nudge wink wink.

FarelyKnuts Sun 06-Oct-13 10:20:18

Being stoned off their gourds means its quite likely they were constantly hallucinating and there were no ghosts. Poor caretaker just doing his job and these stoner kids keep freaking out every time they saw him grin

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall Sun 06-Oct-13 10:20:21

so just talking to DH about this and of course he knew that Shaggy was always high. Apparently Scooby Snax are pot cakes. I did not know that.

It all makes sense.

It is something I often wonder Kim why they just haven't realised its always the caretaker who just wants the money for himself.

Or maybe they just sat in the van, tripping on acid, imagining the ghost happenings and what we are seeing is their recurring nightmare?
Or not grin

VestaCurry Sun 06-Oct-13 11:01:44

It's such a pile of shit.

CokeFan Sun 06-Oct-13 11:13:11

They're not always fake baddies though. There's Scooby Doo on Zombie Island where the monsters are real. Think that's the only one though and it was a straight-to-video film in 1998

drudgewithagrudge Sun 06-Oct-13 13:20:03

I have heard a rumour that Velma is gay.

MardyBra Sun 06-Oct-13 17:02:40

"it's less that Scooby and shaggy are together, but more that Fred and the girls are together. Nudge nudge wink wink."

I think you're projecting your own desires onto the thread tbh Beardy

MardyBra Sun 06-Oct-13 17:03:14

Velma rocks. I've always thought that Fred and Daphne are drips.

As a younger man it would've been Daphne, but now with age comes wisdom and I know that Velma would be worth sneaking off with wink

There was a witch one where the witches were real too, I think.

I was shocked when I watched Zombie Island. grin

MardyBra Sun 06-Oct-13 17:08:49

Ha ha. I'm a bit of a Velma lookalike - so there's hope for me yet. Although I don't normally go in for an orange turtleneck. I bet she's filthy in the sack.

They always say to watch out for the quiet ones...

TiggyD Sun 06-Oct-13 17:16:30

Scooby snacks surely have to be uppers of some kind. Scooby is much perkier afterwards.
Shaggy is a stoner.
Fred is gay.
Velma is a lesbian.
Daphne is...not sure about Daphne.
Scrappy is a mistake. Mr Hanna or Barbera has apologised for him in the past.

kim147 Sun 06-Oct-13 17:21:01

So in Zombie Island, did they try to pull the face mask off at the end? That would have been messy.

MardyBra Sun 06-Oct-13 22:29:03

Fortunately Scrappy is after my time. There are benefits to being old.

TeamEdward Sun 06-Oct-13 22:39:53

It freaks me out a bit that in the more recent episodes, Fred & Dapne are coupled up, and now so are Velma and Shaggy.
Except Velma keeps having to ask Shaggy to choose between her and the dog. <boak>

I think that about Noddy Its always the f*******@@!!!!!! Goblins! Just lock them up and throw away the key!

Fakebook Sun 06-Oct-13 22:56:01

Dd has a scooby movie called zombie island or something and the zombies and ghosts in it are real. She also has scooby doo and the samurai sword that has a real monster in it called the black samurai or something.

Sometimes the ghosties are real.

StanleyLambchop Mon 07-Oct-13 07:50:41

They always say to watch out for the quiet ones...

Velma is not quiet though is she? She always has a lot to say for herself, especially at the end when she smugly explains how she knew all along who the ghost was!

NynaevesSister Mon 07-Oct-13 08:00:28

Loved Velma. Loves Scooby Do as a kid and loved watching again with son. Except for the very newest series where Velma spends all her time trying to get Shaggy to go out with her. WTF! That is NOT Velma.

But the best thing about Scooby Do? It taught us all that the real monsters are always human beings.

scrappydappydoo Mon 07-Oct-13 08:05:11

Feels victimised sad

bootsycollins Mon 07-Oct-13 08:08:18

Aaaah fond memories of Zombie Island "why Miss Lenoir", sadly I can still recite full songs from that film grin. Scrappy Doo was a little shit but I love Scooby Dumb (Scoobys dumb ass country bumpkin cousin).

It's amazing what lengths these creepy caretakers go to, there seems to be an endless supply of holograms and elaborate spy ware hmm
