Hangover from hell and that's it I've decided I don't need to drink! I'm not a raging alcoholic but I just can't handle my drink anymore and ended a good night in a total state!
Gym and healthy eating is the way forward I think from now on!
Jeez I'm 35, I need to grow up!
Aibu to think I can do this? It can't be that difficult even if others are drinking?

I will be saying this Thursday morning no doubt

MusicalEndorphins Sun 22-Sep-13 23:12:51

Oh course you can. And if you need help in quitting drinking, then all the more reason to seek it. Good luck.

sonlypuppyfat Sun 22-Sep-13 23:13:02

Many many years ago I went out had a very merry time drinking cider and black and finished the night with a very classy tray of chips and curry sauce. I went back to my BF house and bought the lot back over his mums toilet floor all over her pedistal set, I have never been drunk since.

Icantstopeatinglol Sun 22-Sep-13 23:14:11

I did have to attend my nieces birthday party this afternoon too which consisted of screaming children and loud music.
I managed not to hurl my guts up there!
Never again! Seriously!

Icantstopeatinglol Sun 22-Sep-13 23:16:20

sonly I was sick when I got back and it's actually scared me cos I've got two gorgeous kids and I could have been sick in my sleep!! Definately not worth it!

sonlypuppyfat Sun 22-Sep-13 23:19:03

Its definatly not worth it, I may sound like an old fart but when I started going out in the 80's I never saw anyone falling over drunk perhaps worse for wear but never like you see on the tv. I don't miss being drunk.

Icantstopeatinglol Sun 22-Sep-13 23:23:05

I just keep thinking I was having such a good night to start with, why did I need to keep drink

Icantstopeatinglol Sun 22-Sep-13 23:24:24

....sorry...
Why did I need to keep drinking when I could have easily had a better night just having a laugh with my friend and dancing!
It's embarrassing really, I feel l

sonlypuppyfat Sun 22-Sep-13 23:25:40

Do you drink spirits? Could you drink, I don't know shandy or cider something that takes a while to drink not something that you can neck!

Icantstopeatinglol Sun 22-Sep-13 23:26:01

Jesus, I'm rubbish on this tonight ha!
It's embarrassing, I feel like I'm bored of it now.
...and my fingers obviously don't work the next day ha!!

Icantstopeatinglol Sun 22-Sep-13 23:27:11

It's wine sonly, I just think I'd have a better night without the drink.

TessTackle Sun 22-Sep-13 23:28:16

I'm 22 - not that age matters but hey ho- and I stopped drinking in October after a night out ended with me in the bath being sick blush
It's not impossible or even hard if it's what you want to do.

If you think you'll want an occasional drink why not just vow to drink less rather than not at all. That way you won't be disappointed if you have a messy night smile

YouTheCat Sun 22-Sep-13 23:29:28

You need to perfect the art of 2/3 glasses of wine/drinks, depending on whether you get drunk easily or not.

I find 2 glasses is pleasant and chatty. 3 is tipsy and merry and any more than that and I am asking for a hangover.

I did used to over do it often but I really can't be bothered with feeling crap the next day or throwing up.

If you don't want to drink then dont drink.

I will probably be throwing up Wednesday night or probably early hours Thursday. I end up on shots and mixing drinks everytime I drink.

I'm actually looking forward to it

YouTheCat Sun 22-Sep-13 23:32:03

These are large glasses I'm talking about - not a 6th of a bottle. I try not to have more than 6 units in one go and prefer to stick to about 4 units - with plenty of days without to give my poor liver a chance. grin

HoneyDragon Sun 22-Sep-13 23:32:36

I stopped after a night out where I ended up in a right state and didn't know how, nor did my friends sad

I decided from them on it would be safer to stay stone cold sober.

elcranko Sun 22-Sep-13 23:32:52

I'm feeling much the same way at the moment. I've only been drunk about twice since I had my DC and both times I regretted it the next day because these days I'd much rather be having a nice day with my DC and a clear head, than lying on the sofa feeling like utter shite. I'm not saying I'm never drinking again because I know I will, but I do try to rein it in a bit when I go out now and maybe get a bit tipsy rather than steaming drunk. Oh and my hangovers have got worse and last longer the older I get so even more reason not to go there anymore! smile

TessTackle Sun 22-Sep-13 23:33:08

Please do drunk posting on here SP cheers wine

No way! I did that new years grin

I'm at a wedding after do from 3.30pm til midnight, maybe even town after. I'm going all out seen as my birthday will be shite.

Icantstopeatinglol Sun 22-Sep-13 23:35:13

I think I'm just going to save drinking for special occasions and even then limit myself! It's a total waste otherwise, anymore than 3 glasses of wine and I can't remember anything!

McNewPants2013 Sun 22-Sep-13 23:37:03

I have found if I drink a pint of water before going to bed and have a bottle of water by the bed to drink when I get up I am hang over free within an hour.

Also a nice heathy breakfast.

TessTackle Sun 22-Sep-13 23:38:13

I'm three mojitos and down lol. I love mojitos.

I want a mojito
I really really want a mojito

oh fuck

AngryFeet Sun 22-Sep-13 23:42:40

See I can drink shit loads and not have a hangover now a days. This probably means I have a high tolerance and my liver I shot to shit!

Angry MD 20/20 in my teen years killed my liver grin

Icantstopeatinglol Sun 22-Sep-13 23:51:20

SP 20/20 and Thunderbird were the drinks in my late teens! Tastes like fecking rocket fuel!!

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform Sun 22-Sep-13 23:52:05

I gave up drinking three months ago after a(nother) drunken argument with DH which totally ruined our evening. I'm embarrassed to say I threw my rings at him in a field and then had to spend 15 minutes combing through grass trying to find them.

I was so embarrassed and ashamed by my behaviour I've not touched a drop since - and have done hen parties, weddings, holidays etc in that time. I don't miss it as I've decided to do without. There is no temptation, and I'm pleased that it's becoming normal for me to not drink now - my friends no longer question it.

I still feel crappy the next day after not enough sleep though.

I loved the orange one. I'm tempted to buy a bottle for the bride it was her I used to drink it with grin

Its all black sambucca shots these days.

MrsKoala Sun 22-Sep-13 23:55:39

Since i had DS a year ago my hangovers are awful - well, tbh they probably are no worse than before, but not being able to laze around eating crap and snooze and shag all day means they feel much worse. Having to get up at 6 and function with a baby is more shit than any fun the night before could possibly be.

So altho i still drink, i rarely get drunk now. But then again i can still have 6 pints and not feel drunk or hungover so i should be alright. If i had one glass of red wine tho i'd be spewing the whole next day. What is it about having babies which changes what you can drink?

Icantstopeatinglol Mon 23-Sep-13 00:04:20

hotel I'm always wary going out with dh drinking cos we have had many a ruined night with alcohol. Not just me though, he's the same but i think when you've had a drink you just say what you want without thinking!

sp me and my bf used to drink the orange one as quick as we could!....feel like vomming now just thinking about it!

mrskoala I think after you have kids your priorities change and you're not getting enough sleep to cope either!
Im definately calling it a day on getting hammered and going to save drinking for birthdays etc!

Lj8893 Mon 23-Sep-13 00:35:14

Yanbu. But everyone says it don't they!

I'm 25, and a good drunk, Im just an exaggerated version of myself. However, no matter how much or what I drink, I die the next day. Like actually die.

I'm 8 months pregnant and dreading my first night out after I have had the baby!!

AnaisHendricks Mon 23-Sep-13 00:39:24

I did three months off no problem and I bloody LOVE wine.

It really is about taking it a day at a time and relishing the extra energy and positives.

Nobody ever said, "I really wish I got drunk last night"

I'm going off until Christmas and looking forward to it. Good luck smile

Icantstopeatinglol Mon 23-Sep-13 07:47:53

I'm actually looking forward to not drinking and feeling fresh as a daisy! Still feeling sluggish today, it is just poisoning your body at the end of the day. Think I've had my time getting mortal and I'm going to concentrate on staying healthy!

Cat98 Mon 23-Sep-13 07:53:34

I did this last week and vowed from now on my limit will be 2 large glasses max (on a night out). Enough to get tipsy but not falling down drunk!
Time will tell.

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform Mon 23-Sep-13 08:17:15

Yes DH is just as bad. The stupid thing is often our arguments have been as a result of misunderstandings - and more than once we've been arguing the same side of the argument but too stupid to realise it.

He still has the odd drink, but is generally a lot more moderate than me - I tend to be all or nothing! But since I stopped I think, stag weekend aside, he's had a glass of wine on a night out and had two glasses at a wedding and that's it. I'm very impressed that he's being supportive and sensible.

fatlazymummy Mon 23-Sep-13 09:10:48

Go for it OP. If you hate being teetotal you can always start drinking again, but it's worth trying.
I've been teetotal for 3 years now and feel so much better for it.

Icantstopeatinglol Mon 23-Sep-13 18:19:24

Thanks everyone, I'm thinking mainly my health too. I take tablets for inflammatory arthritis and as much as they say as long as I don't drink more than 14 units a wk i still don't think it can be ok?
My dh has started exercising more recently too and he's not drinking as much so it shouldn't be too bad. Infact I'm happy to go for it! smile)

Do it, if you want to. I very rarely drink, the last time was 2 years ago just before getting pregnant. I am a pleasant, giggly, energetic drinker, but I cannot handle the after effects and it ruins the whole next day.

Occasionally I will have a mojito, but that's about it. I never did drink wine or beer.

I honestly find that other people are more bothered by me not having a drink than I am.
