Just saw an episode of it on YouTube and thought Geoffrey was much more attractive than I remembered. Aibu?

Periwonkle Sun 22-Sep-13 17:16:36

Rainbow obviously.

Lovecat Sun 22-Sep-13 17:16:37

I'd rather do Bungle.

MrsBungle Sun 22-Sep-13 17:23:19

Ooh lovecat grin

Geoffrey is my friends uncle.

MrsBungle Sun 22-Sep-13 17:26:22

Damn, got it wrong. My friends uncle is Freddie from rod, jane and Freddy!

squoosh Sun 22-Sep-13 17:32:39

The man wore bright yellow dungarees.

Thepowerof3 Sun 22-Sep-13 17:52:47

My Herat belongs to Zippy

Rummikub Sun 22-Sep-13 17:54:30

Aren't they the same person?

BringBackBod Sun 22-Sep-13 17:54:48

He's gorgeous!

Periwonkle Sun 22-Sep-13 18:06:21

In the one I watched, they were going camping and he had some nice little denim shorts on.

KurriKurri Sun 22-Sep-13 18:09:11

Geoffrey? a man who lives (and IIRC shares a bed) with two unidentifiable stuffed toys and a man in a bear suit?

I am wondering how much wine has been consumed with the Sunday dinner hmm

Zippy is mine. He is lovely. grin

KatoPotato Sun 22-Sep-13 18:13:25

Oh no, he's an absolute drip!

mrsbungle please tell me he has a lovely life and is dead happy, I sometimes worry about him!

JamieandtheMagicTorch Sun 22-Sep-13 18:21:10

Can't agree I'm afraid.

Periwonkle Sun 22-Sep-13 18:23:59

Kurri, they didn't share a bed!

Thepowerof3 Sun 22-Sep-13 18:24:19

I'd put my hand up the zippster anytime, Bungle is a many tale telling bastard and I might be wrong but I think George might not be in to Women

Periwonkle Sun 22-Sep-13 18:41:09

Periwonkle Sun 22-Sep-13 18:42:12

Ah, I don't mind about George. Just nice Geoffrey.

Pollydon Sun 22-Sep-13 18:49:06

George is a friend of Dorothy smile

DrSeuss Sun 22-Sep-13 18:54:07
KurriKurri Sun 22-Sep-13 19:00:04

I know Zippy and George shared a bed periwonkle, and I'm sure Geoffrey and Bungle used to climb in with them (or maybe I dreamt it confused)

I always assumed Geoffrey was asexual, and Bungle is certainly a manipulative bastard. George and zippy - inhabit the outer fringes of society, but do no harm.

If I had to choose, I'd do Zippy (and hope nothing got caught in his zip)

namechangesforthehardstuff Sun 22-Sep-13 19:03:05

I know someone who had a fight with Bungle. In full bear costume. Bungle with the costume. Not my friend.

A full on fight too; apparently Bundle kept using the c-word.

JakeBullet Sun 22-Sep-13 19:06:40

Chuckling at this thread.

The chap who did Zippy's voice has now died as I recall.
Rod, Jane and Freddy, didn't she marry one of them then run off with the other. Or did I dream that?

Periwonkle Sun 22-Sep-13 19:15:13

Think you are right, Jake.

VivaLeThrustBadger Sun 22-Sep-13 19:16:03

Some tabloid rag did an exposé of him a few years ago. Photographed him stacking shelves in sainsburys. Poor Geoffrey.

Periwonkle Sun 22-Sep-13 19:18:21

He shone brightly for a time, though Viva. Sigh.

KurriKurri Sun 22-Sep-13 19:25:36

He shone Up above the trees and houses Periwonkle.

He's probably doing alternative comedy gigs at student venues now (like Keith Harris)

phantomnamechanger Sun 22-Sep-13 19:26:55

I loved Rainbow

"up above the trees and houses......."

anyone remember sally & jake too?

phantomnamechanger Sun 22-Sep-13 19:27:58

x-posts KK

I knew someone else out there was singing along!

pigletmania Sun 22-Sep-13 19:33:07

Oh dear oh dear

JakeBullet Sun 22-Sep-13 19:43:05

Geoffry is now a taxi driver all accounts he squandered his money after Rainbow.

<Ponders the hedonistic lifestyle he led with George, Zippy and Bungle>

As for Rod, Jane and Freddy ....a contributor to a forum suggested that they became swingers in Derbyshire and that Bungle also occasionally did a turn there. Don't think the contributor was being entirely serious grin

meditrina Sun 22-Sep-13 19:43:21

My mother thought Rainbow was common (it was on ITV, wasn't it?) so I used to watch ail at other people's houses.

Periwonkle Sun 22-Sep-13 19:46:09

It was itv you are right. Oo Geoffrey.

Itsjustapuppet Sun 22-Sep-13 20:07:42

It was just one msn who did the voices of Zippy and George. He could just alternate the two seamlessly.

MrsBungle Sun 22-Sep-13 20:12:17

Rod Jane and Freddy did swap around. I also heard about the swinging. Apparently Freddy is eccentric and is in the music business and v happy.?

SpottyDottie Sun 22-Sep-13 20:14:03

Jane was married to Rod but has been with Freddy was years now.

idiot55 Sun 22-Sep-13 20:15:49

CustardOmlet Sun 22-Sep-13 20:36:12

My mum also disapproved of itv, plus Zippy used to scare the shit out of me, too manic and unpredictable!

Clawdy Sun 22-Sep-13 20:39:42

Remember the rude version of Rainbow on Youtube,it was hilarious, don't know if it's still on! And Jane always seemed a bit of a goody-two-shoes! Not in that...!!

JohnSnowsTie Sun 22-Sep-13 20:50:29

Oh my God, when you said Geoffrey I had in mind the pink hippo thing! shock

Thepowerof3 Sun 22-Sep-13 20:50:33

grin Manipulative bastard! I recently watched an episode where Bungle was playing with bricks and wouldn't let Zippy play as he is a bit manic, Geoffrey told Zippy to find something else to play so he decided to play at being a fisherman swinging his rod around right next to bungles tower of bricks knocking them over and upsetting Bungle no end

Periwonkle Sun 22-Sep-13 20:58:34

John snow - not George, Geoffrey. Thepowerofthree, that was a funny episode too.

WaitMonkey Sun 22-Sep-13 21:02:54

shock shock shock shock shock shock shock shock shock shock shock

JakeBullet Sun 22-Sep-13 21:03:40

The chap who did Bungle was bound over to keep the peace in 2001 after a road rage incident. Not such a cuddly bear after all grin

Elsiequadrille Sun 22-Sep-13 21:06:43

Geoffrey was lovely, but not in that way!

MacaYoniandCheese Sun 22-Sep-13 21:06:53

Are you feeling alright, OP? grin.

Elsiequadrille Sun 22-Sep-13 21:07:33

Bungle always seemed so reasonable.

Thepowerof3 Sun 22-Sep-13 21:17:44

He was a tell tale

butterflyroom Sun 22-Sep-13 21:26:14

Thank you so much. Great thread! grin

Thepowerof3 Sun 22-Sep-13 21:34:35

Apparently during the roads rage incident he 'launched a foul mouthed tirade that would make Zippy blush' and the journalist reporting felt it necessary to point out he that he wor a 'sober grey suit instead of his trademark furry one' to court

MyBaby1day Mon 23-Sep-13 01:02:18

Thepowerof3, I am afraid Zippy is mine!!, hands off!! grin

LadyBigtoes Mon 23-Sep-13 01:13:28

I loved Geoffrey and George, I hated Bungle and Zippy. RJ&F were just annoying, like when Mr Bennett started ruining Take Hart.

I once heard someone say when you meet Cameron Diaz up close she looks like Zippy. <pointless aside of the thread award>

DontPanicMrMannering Mon 23-Sep-13 01:17:06

You all need to seek help

JakeBullet Mon 23-Sep-13 06:54:39

OMG Lady, I will never look at Cameron Diaz in the same ways ver again....grin

Deathbyladybirds Mon 23-Sep-13 07:01:35

Bungle was a petulant bastard.

Thepowerof3 Mon 23-Sep-13 09:09:05

I think I do need help, I'm getting angry just thinking about Bungle and his ways

StanleyLambchop Mon 23-Sep-13 09:31:55

I remember Zippy when rainbow first started. He was utterly horrible (but in a way that made children like him!) He was definitely toned down and made a bit better behaved in the later series. While on the subject, does anyone remember Pipkins? Hartley Hare was a similar character IIRC.

"Up above the streets and houses Bungles flying high, he opens up his hairy arse and shits in Geoffreys eye..." grin

quoteunquote Mon 23-Sep-13 10:38:27
Lovecat Mon 23-Sep-13 12:22:15

The guy who does George and Zippy (Ronnie Le Drew) is alive and well and put on a show for a friends' mother's 75th birthday recently.

He had pics on FB of them popping up from behind the sofa. It was surreal.

KatoPotato Mon 23-Sep-13 13:11:48

It was Roy Skelton who voiced Zippy and George. Died in 2011.

KatoPotato Mon 23-Sep-13 13:14:47

Ronnie Le Drew 'operated' them. nice!

Clawdy Mon 23-Sep-13 14:52:15

One of George's best lines "It's always a happy ending, Geoffrey!" sad

JohFlow Mon 23-Sep-13 14:53:46

He's a square as McGeek for Geek Street in Geekville - sorry lol x

Beeyump Mon 23-Sep-13 14:57:54

I like Bungle. Less of this petulant, tell tale stuff.

thebody Mon 23-Sep-13 15:08:52

Stanley, yes remember pipkins, it was set in a shop I think?? was there a pig in it? off to U Tube grin

KatoPotato Mon 23-Sep-13 15:10:09

Pipkins was terrifying!

KurriKurri Mon 23-Sep-13 15:11:23

Beeyump - If Bungle had pearls he'd be constantly clutching them. He reminds me of my late MIL.

KurriKurri Mon 23-Sep-13 15:12:48

Was Pipkins the one with Hartley Hare? (a very creepy creature IIRC, and riddled with moths)

Thepowerof3 Mon 23-Sep-13 15:16:39

I can't stop laughing about that song yourma even my baby is laughing along innocently beside me!

JakeBullet Mon 23-Sep-13 15:18:10

I think we should get Geoffrey in for a web chat! So many memories of a childhood lol

thebody Mon 23-Sep-13 15:21:37

I have just watched pipkins episode ' Hartley hate goes to the dentist' on U Tube. fantastic and much better than ironing. grin

thebody Mon 23-Sep-13 15:22:22

hare obviously not hate!!

CogitoErgoSometimes Mon 23-Sep-13 16:12:17

I thought you were going to say he's been arrested.

Wallison Mon 23-Sep-13 16:17:16

YourMaNoBra, I was just about to post that!

But as I can't, I will just say that I used to love George.

JennySense Mon 23-Sep-13 17:05:20

The bloke who did the voice for Hartley was interviewed on radio 4 last Saturday - the morning programme.

Pollydon Mon 23-Sep-13 22:16:21

PMSL @ if Bungle had pearls - I'll be having visions of that one all night <rolls on floor>

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance Mon 23-Sep-13 22:33:25

I'm now convinced that Bungle did have pearls at one point and did indeed clutch them.

It's just so 'right'.

Not surprised that Bungle is a wanker in real life. I loved Zippy and I aspired to be like him, which is probably why I'm a gobby twat these days.

I thought that it was originally Rod, Jane and Roger when Jane and Roger we're married then she fucked off with the other one, Roger got the sack and they brought in Freddy. I also believe that Freddy was Ronald McDonald in the adverts.

Geoffrey? Really? You're sick OP.

Hogwash Mon 23-Sep-13 22:43:10

My husband nearly jumped out of his chair as I googled and then shrieked 'oh my God, not Geoffrey from Rainbow'. Seriously OP, how much have you had to drink/smoke/snort? shock

Is George really gay? shock

Periwonkle Tue 24-Sep-13 06:38:37

Just think he seems so lovely. I like the poet Simon Armitage too.

teacherandguideleader Tue 24-Sep-13 07:09:52

My best friend confessed at her 18th birthday party that she fancied Geoffrey. She was very drunk and as never lived it down!

Periwonkle Tue 24-Sep-13 08:15:58

Ah, you see I didn't fancy him when I

Periwonkle Tue 24-Sep-13 08:16:22

was 18; I liked Alan Rickman th

Periwonkle Tue 24-Sep-13 08:16:42

then, even

<warbles un tunefully> Salllyyy and Jake in a village called Dimbledale, dee de deeeee di dee de deeeeee Sly the cat toooooooooo grin
And I remember Pipkins, with Tortoise and Pig, and Topov the monkey and Hartley Hare grin
When we were in senior school (so about 14 blush ) my friend and I used to run to her house at dinner time to watch Rod, Jane and Freddy, and Puddle Lane every day grin <does the cauldron tune> Bom bomm BOM Bom! Bommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm>

KatoPotato Tue 24-Sep-13 09:51:49

Badgers befoer that it was Rod, Jane and Matthew (Corbett!)

HatieKokpins Tue 24-Sep-13 09:57:12

I never understood Bungle. He wandered around stark naked every day, then put his pyjamas on to go to bed. I used to find that very confusing.

Beeyump Tue 24-Sep-13 09:59:39

Matthew Corbett as in Soooty? Well bugger me!

EmmaKate1985 Tue 24-Sep-13 18:22:35

My friend got likened to George. Not very flattering.

Periwonkle Tue 24-Sep-13 18:48:10

Periwonkle Tue 24-Sep-13 18:48:34

but he is a nice gentle soul.

Periwonkle Tue 24-Sep-13 18:48:35

but he is a nice gentle soul.

Periwonkle Tue 24-Sep-13 18:48:53

Like Geoffrey.

Rachel778 Tue 24-Sep-13 18:50:37

namechangesforthehardstuff . . LMAO @ fight with Bungle . . .I hated Bungle ,, arrogant B'tard Bear .. LOL .. George I think was very in touch with his femanine side. .

Sparklymommy Tue 24-Sep-13 19:34:56

Oh my god. I didn't realise that Rod, Roger and Jane were swingers. It all makes sense now! Lol.

Peri, stop defending Geofffffferrrry. You need help, you are very ill and possibly have something wrong with your eyes too.

Periwonkle Wed 25-Sep-13 05:58:38

No no. He is gentle and caring and probably very considerate. Hmmm.

HatieKokpins Wed 25-Sep-13 09:12:29

Periwonkle, you're a sick, sick puppy.

BB01 Thu 26-Sep-13 19:47:46

OP, I had the same thought when I saw a recent repeat! I also recently had the same thought about Pat Sharpe! blush
