To want to stitch Miley's mouth closed ?

Saw her on Alan Carr Chatty Man last night....So bloody annoying. And why does she insist in sticking her tongue out in every single picture taken of her ?

picnicbasketcase Sat 14-Sep-13 07:53:01

I think it's too big for her mouth. Like Jamie Oliver's.

TheAlphaandtheOmega Sat 14-Sep-13 08:06:24

Her mouth seemed to have a life of its own anyway

I saw a giraffe who couldn't get its tongue back into its mouth. It was jerking its head to try to get the tongue in but this big, blue thing was just lolling about. It was like trying to get an eel into a sock. Maybe she's part giraffe, her tongue is a funny colour.

Good news about Miley's tongue

ILetHimKeep20Quid Sat 14-Sep-13 08:23:48

The video for wrecking ball is awful, even my seven year old was like 'eeew why is she licking a hammer?'

scarletforya Sat 14-Sep-13 08:38:56

Jebus, the hammer licking <euw>

elcranko Sat 14-Sep-13 09:15:10

YANBU. The tongue thing irritates the life out of me.

IEatDates Sat 14-Sep-13 09:24:42

Every single thing about her is awful. Really cringey worthy painful-to-watch crap.

nancerama Sat 14-Sep-13 09:32:00

She's acting like a rebellious 13 year old, when she's 20 years old. "I'm expressing myself, I'm being me". Seriously? Grow up.

LadyGooGoo Sat 14-Sep-13 09:33:23

ILetHimKeep Snap! My 3 year old said " why is she always sticking her tongue out, she's silly", when we saw the video in a shop smile

diddl Sat 14-Sep-13 09:36:24

"Seriously? Grow up."

Perhaps she's trying to if she's finally allowed...

Or maybe her "team" just think it's great PR?

Doesnotdrinkalcohol Sat 14-Sep-13 09:37:26

She's always stuck her tongue out! Why is everyone so offended about it now?

liquidstate Sat 14-Sep-13 09:37:31
TondelayoSchwarzkopf Sat 14-Sep-13 10:07:25

I think the idea of "stitching someone's mouth closed" is really violent and misogynistic.

I get she's annoying but that is an upsetting thing to say about everyone. She's perfectly easy to ignore.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf Sat 14-Sep-13 10:07:55

anyone not everyone sorry

mrsjay Sat 14-Sep-13 10:13:29

I just watched mel and sue then turned it over I turned it back and she was on couldnt find the remote quick enough I can't stand the girl she needs to put it away

HellonHeels Sat 14-Sep-13 12:09:02

Eurgh that tongue pic sequence is nasty!

LegoDragon Sat 14-Sep-13 13:45:03

Wrecking ball was a bit ick with her hammer licking and when she did that thing with her nose on the wrecking ball chain. Why? I don't mind the whole nakedness thing but the tongue stuff really gets me. I think the start of Wrecking Ball was good though.

TheProsAndConsOfHitchhiking Sat 14-Sep-13 13:48:49

I was cringing watching her on chatty man last night, yanbu

DoJo Sat 14-Sep-13 14:00:23

I don't get all the animosity towards her - why does it matter where her tongue is, or is it just that she's not behaving in the way that people think 'nice girls' should?

Like many stars who grew up in the limelight, it's obvious that missing out on a childhood & teenage activities that 'normal' people are able to do seriously affects them as young adults.

I don't think it's fair to insult her, yes her behaviour was awful but maybe just maybe she has lost her way and is heading into the downwards spiral of going of the rails like others have, such as Britney Spears etc.

Sallyingforth Sat 14-Sep-13 14:04:11

or is it just that she's not behaving in the way that people think 'nice girls' should?
No, just that she's not acting in a way that grown-ups should.

diddl Sat 14-Sep-13 14:10:26

"No, just that she's not acting in a way that grown-ups should."

Yup, I'm sure she's the only 20 yr old to parade around in little clothing showing off for attention!

mummytime Sat 14-Sep-13 14:22:38

diddl - I just think it says something when DJs on Capital Radio say that her latest video makes them feel uncomfortable, and that she's gone off the rails.

I feel very sad for her.

DoJo Sat 14-Sep-13 14:31:07

Sallyingforth She's a 20 year old pop star FFS! How do you think she should behave? Wear a two piece skirt suit and get a job in an office?

diddl Sat 14-Sep-13 14:34:13

"I feel very sad for her"

Me too, because she's probably surrounded by "yes people", or her perception is genuinely skewed, or she's just copying someone else.

moanalot Sat 14-Sep-13 14:36:24

Really don't understand this tongue thing at all. Kerry Katona and Jordan both used to do it a lot. All it does is make them look stupid. It's a thing that only little kids used to do, sticking their tongue out. That one that won Big Brother last night was doing it. Pathetic , stupid and immature.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf I agree. Something very nasty about that image. I find her wildly annoying but she is entitled to stick her own tongue out however irritating that is. I'd take her antics over Robin I'm a fucking misogynist Thicke any day.

Sallyingforth Sat 14-Sep-13 15:08:43

She's a 20 year old pop star FFS! How do you think she should behave?
'20 years old' means she is an adult and should behave as one.
'pop star' is not an excuse for such childish antics - quite the reverse in fact. She should understand that children might (misguidedly) look to her as an example.
Far too many children are encouraged to inspire to be brainless 'celebs' instead of learning to be responsible adults.

DoJo Sat 14-Sep-13 15:50:43

But what constitutes adult behaviour? She has earned more money that I am ever likely to, has a thriving career and knows how to maintain it. She is not obliged to set a good example for the children of people she hasn't met, and if she wants to enjoy being young, rich and popular then I don't see why she should shoulder any more responsibility than she needs to. I don't see how she is encouraging children to be a brainless celeb - she is enjoying immense success in her chosen field at an age where plenty of people are still living with their parents, studying full time or job hunting. There is nothing about being a 'celeb' that makes it impossible to be a responsible adult as well. What would you have her do?

SirChenjin Sat 14-Sep-13 15:53:10

I would have her focussing on promoting her talent rather than her tits.

GoldenGytha Sat 14-Sep-13 16:17:18

I get that Miley is a bit wild just now, but I think that in a few years time she'll have settled down again and maybe move back into singing country.

Her Backyard Sessions are stunning, as is her version of You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go, she has a brilliant voice for country music.

DD2 loved Hannah Montana and Miley to the extent of calling one of our cats Miley smile

SirChenjin Sat 14-Sep-13 16:44:04

Oh god - you mean we've got a few more years of her acting like a prat?

ubik Sat 14-Sep-13 17:13:18

She's producing shite that I don't want my daughters to see, she is normalising thus weird hyper sexuality which mskes little girls think they have to be 'sexy' to be popular.

I couldn't give a shit about her ' growing up in public' trials and tribulations. She is an over privileged young woman and frankly I'm far more worried about my 3 little girls growing up around this stuff.

ubik Sat 14-Sep-13 17:14:30

And as an adult popstar I think she should act with some integrity.

12thDoctorsCompanion Sat 14-Sep-13 18:36:52

Totally agree with sallyingforth, Sirchenjin and ubik.

and charlotte that won cbb last night is another one.

Bumpotato Sat 14-Sep-13 19:16:05

I can't see the problem with her. I think my daughters know their own minds enough to not want to be her, while still enjoying her songs. I watched Chatty Man and thought she was good.

SirChenjin Sat 14-Sep-13 23:21:49

How old are your daughters Bumpotato?

I completely agree Ubik. I loathe this oversexualisation of the pop industry, with young women selling themselves short in order to flog their music and raise their profile by flashing their tits, while the record labels rub their hands (and god knows what else) as the money comes rolling in.

FFS, isn't it about time that society stopped this obsession with sex and focussed more on growing talent?

HalooJones Sun 15-Sep-13 01:39:24

She's an idiot, as is any pop starlet who thinks they have to flaunt themselves in order to prove they are an adult. She can't have much faith in her musical ability is all I can say.

EmmaBemma Sun 15-Sep-13 05:32:42

"stitch her mouth closed"? Niiice. What a lovely image, not at all violent or misogynist.

StHelenInPerson Sun 15-Sep-13 08:11:48

She has a good voice although the licking sledge hammer bit completely lowers the tone and doesn't fit with the song.

There's being sexual and there's being distasteful, she is distasteful.

isshoes Sun 15-Sep-13 08:19:13

I think the word misogyny is being bandied around far too much these days. The title of the OP is quite violent and unpleasant, but it's not misogynistic.

isshoes Sun 15-Sep-13 08:20:04

I think the word misogyny is being bandied around far too much these days. The title of the OP is quite violent and unpleasant, but it's not misogynistic.

^ ^ is what i think of miley I have a dd who loved hannah montana and then her singles as miley now she just thinks she is and i quote nasty so her image isn't rubbing off on all girls , I just wish MIley would sing a song and get on with it I don't really know what she is hoping to achieve with this aint i so sexy and naughty image, attention i suppose,

SirChenjin Sun 15-Sep-13 08:54:20

The misogyny lies at the door of the record labels who pimp and objectify young women in order to make a fast buck.

mrsjay Sun 15-Sep-13 08:56:39

\DO we really think Miley is being exploited and doing things against her will she isn't she is having a blast loving the attention and probably annoying her dad in the meantime, she thinks she is shaking off the Hannah Montana which she is but she looks a bit of a twit doing it, thing is she has a decent voice she could sing great songs and do videos without licking hammers and touching girls boobs

jojoanna Sun 15-Sep-13 09:02:48

Agreed the record labels are at fault!

bbcessex Sun 15-Sep-13 09:06:30

I think "stitch her mouth closed" says more about the OPs personality than Miley's...

My view on the overt sexuality and nudity.. its only used when songs are crap and unremarkable...

SirChenjin Sun 15-Sep-13 09:15:27

I don't think she's doing it against her will - but I do think that she has been brainwashed (as many young people have) into thinking that you have to be overtly sexual (hyper sexual as someone upthread said) in order to attract attention. In some ways I find that more concerning that if she were doing it against her will - the insidious sexualisation of just about everything has normalised it to such an extent that in order to sell music and raise profiles of pop starts the boundaries have to be constantly pushed.

SirChenjin Sun 15-Sep-13 09:15:57

stars not starts!

mrsjay Sun 15-Sep-13 09:19:01

maybe me saying against her will was a bit dramatic but I honestly think this is what miley thinks is edgy and sexy it isn't

mrsjay Sun 15-Sep-13 09:21:31

FWIW i agree with your sirchenjin she doesn't need to act the way she does sex sells but she isn't sexy she looks ridiculous and desperate sex has always sold music it isn't a new thing, I also feel the same about Rhianna I just wish she would stop with the skimpy outfits blah blah

samu2 Sun 15-Sep-13 09:23:33

That video started off nicely, just her cute face.

Then she started giving the hammer a BJ and well, ruined it all.

littlewhitebag Sun 15-Sep-13 09:26:45

Calm down folks, I don't think the OP actually wants to take a needle and thread and actually stitch her mouth closed. I do believe she is talking metaphorically.

samu2 Sun 15-Sep-13 09:28:46

I love her hair though! I wish I was brave enough to have mine the same.

cannotfuckingbelievethis Sun 15-Sep-13 09:29:43

Misogynistic ? I don't think my OP was misogynistic, it wasn't meant to be anyway, I was just trying to get across how bloody annoying I find the tongue thing. I would find it just as annoying if it was a male performer who constantly did this.

A violent image, ok I'll give you that. I probably didn't word my OP the best way. (Was having a bad morning yesterday !) And I would never inflict physical harm on about a wee bit of superglue ? That would probably do the trick....

cannotfuckingbelievethis Sun 15-Sep-13 09:32:09

samu2 - Yes I've heard a lot of people saying she isn't pretty enough for that cut or she doesn't suit it but I think she really suits it.

(see, I can be nice sometimes grin)

SirChenjin Sun 15-Sep-13 09:32:10

How about some duck tape? Some of the nice strong silver stuff? grin

cannotfuckingbelievethis Sun 15-Sep-13 09:33:39

SirChenjin - good idea ! I could draw some big sexy red lips on that too

SirChenjin Sun 15-Sep-13 09:35:51

And stick on a fake tongue!

ExcuseTypos Sun 15-Sep-13 09:38:42

The record companies aren't to blame. They only put out what an artist provides them with. They aren't going to tell someone like Miley what she must do.

Having said that they would have been delighted with what she has done, because everyone is taking about her.

Bowlersarm Sun 15-Sep-13 09:39:50

Oh yes nasty way of putting it OP, bearing in mind that used to happen to people.

Some sort of tape is a much nicer image in my head.

TootiesFrootie Sun 15-Sep-13 09:40:08

She was awful on Chatty Man. She said the word 'crazy' about a hundred times when asked about herself. 'oh, yeah! I am just sooooooo crazy'

She came across as stupid and immature.

...Her chicken bum made me laugh though grin

mrsjay Sun 15-Sep-13 09:41:07

Having said that they would have been delighted with what she has done, because everyone is taking about her.

WELL EXACTLY attention is attention, and she was number one for weeks so she is doing something right

mrsjay Sun 15-Sep-13 09:41:44

when people say OH get me i am soooo crazy actually means they are a pain in the arse grin

Inkspellme Sun 15-Sep-13 09:42:24

I think she's a very talented person who has gotten herself into tereffic physical shape. I also think her hair is fab. However, I think its really sad that she (or her management) feel the need to have her portayed in such a cheap and tasteless fashion in order to make the most of her talent. I completly get the need to be seen as a more mature artist and not Hannah Montana but think they've taken it too far. I like the song wrecking ball but the video is horrendous and tbh, kind of stupid!

TootiesFrootie Sun 15-Sep-13 09:42:43

I was also a bit worried about her shiny PVC trousers, she was going to be a right Sweaty Betty after wearing those. It would be like preforming in a ziplock bag. Yuck!

It's her voice that really grates on me. No emotion, no different pitches. It's is sooooo dull and monotone.

SirChenjin Sun 15-Sep-13 10:10:17

The record companies aren't to blame. They only put out what an artist provides them with. They aren't going to tell someone like Miley what she must do

Really? And you think she isn't constantly under pressure to sell her music or raise her profile?! She knows exactly what is expected of her, and if she doesn't deliver there is another young woman waiting in the wings for her 15 minutes of fame.

I can't believe I'm spending my Sunday morning discussing Miley Cyrus?! blush

eretrew Sun 15-Sep-13 10:12:20

YABU she is entitled to do whatever she wants to boost her career and the last few weeks have certainly given her plenty of press attention. Also why should Miley Cyrus care about other peoples daughters perceptions of sexuality, it is none of her concern

MorrisZapp Sun 15-Sep-13 10:23:55

The record companies aren't to blame? For real? So the likes of Simon Cowell etc are sitting there politely, having meetings and wearing modest suits, then a twenty year old woman barges in and demands that they make the songs and videos she wants? And they do it?

Is this really how anybody thinks the mainstream music industry works? I'm picturing the young artiste getting her tongue and boobs out etc, while the producers of the videos, shows etc tut tut with disgust but feel compelled by their twenty year old boss to continue filming and airing the images on prime time telly despite thinking it is just awful.

Give me strength.

SirChenjin Sun 15-Sep-13 10:24:28

She certainly can do what she wants, it's a free country. However, I don't want my children growing up in a world where this kind of behaviour is normalised. I see the issue not in terms of whether or not she should be able to boost her career but rather, do we want careers to be boosted on the basis on how shocking or hyper sexualised young women can portray themselves, or would we rather see them boosting sales based on talent?

SirChenjin Sun 15-Sep-13 10:25:08

Exactly, MorrisZapp

ExcuseTypos Sun 15-Sep-13 10:34:35

No, that's a very naive view of the a record company.

Most people working in them, including SC are not in any way creative. They sit on their arses pretending to be very busy, looking through stuff brought to them by managers and A and R people. The vast majority are pretty much finished products. The record company just puts out the product.

Do you really think artists such as Madonna, Lady Gaga etc just think of what the the record company will like, when they put things out?

No, their main concern is the media. It's TV and press that sell records, not Record Companies.

SirChenjin Sun 15-Sep-13 10:39:22

Exactly my point - if a pop star can get their profile raised then it's more money in the record label's bank account. Do you think for a minute they are holding Miley back from her mission to become the most tweeted person on earth?

mrsjay Sun 15-Sep-13 10:44:09

but unless an artist has their own record label isn't it all about making a record company rich and a pop start famous, it is all hype and PR until somebody else younger prettier "edgier" comes along, do we honestly think one direction is going to be around in 5 years

SirChenjin Sun 15-Sep-13 10:45:45

do we honestly think one direction is going to be around in 5 years

shock - Mrsjay, how could you??????!!

SirChenjin Sun 15-Sep-13 10:48:07

Right, slattern that I am, I am still in my PJs at 10.50am and I have a mountain of ironing to do. I am off!

mrsjay Sun 15-Sep-13 10:53:09

Mrsjay, how could you??????!!

I am sorry yes of course 1d are going to be around for years to come there there dear it is ok grin

SPBisResisting Sun 15-Sep-13 10:59:31

SUrely the record companies are in the driving seats? Apart from possibly for huge stars like Madonna or Elton john? Sure everyone else just does pretty much as they're told.

SPBisResisting Sun 15-Sep-13 11:00:29

I can't imagine SC sayinf "yes dear...mmm don't you think you should tone that outfit down a bit? No? OK then, your call"

Viviennemary Sun 15-Sep-13 11:06:20

What other bad habit will take the place of this. I shudder to think. What a ghastly creature this girl has become. What's gone wrong. It won't end well. It's sad it has all gone wrong.

ExcuseTypos Sun 15-Sep-13 11:17:17

I was responding to several posters who said the record companies are to blame for the way Miley is acting.

They aren't. The media dictates everything in the music business.

SirChenjin Sun 15-Sep-13 11:21:35

And the record companies put the pressure on the artists to sell or lose their contracts - and so that means using the media to raise your profile. The media is the vehicle, the record company push for results, and the artists are the puppets.

SirChenjin Sun 15-Sep-13 11:22:11

Shit - I still haven't done the ironing, I am definitely off now.

ExcuseTypos Sun 15-Sep-13 11:29:02

But if the media didn't insist on only writing about outrageous things, the artists wouldn't have to make such outrages videos/lyrics and women wouldn't have to behave so outrageously.

Of course record companies want results. They aren't charities.

BoozyBear Sun 15-Sep-13 11:36:13

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

SirChenjin Sun 15-Sep-13 11:50:45

I don't listen to her videos or watch her on TV, but I am conscious of her - unless you live in a cave you can't help being. I've also got 2 teenagers and a 6 year old, and the older 2 are very aware of her and her behaviour. Fortunately they are both intelligent enough to think she's pathetic, but there are plenty of girls in DDs year who have completely bought into the whole hyper sexualised imagery that the media/record companies/artists churn out.

So yes, we can switch off - but wouldn't it be better to challenge the behaviour or Miley et al and demand more real talent?

EmmaBemma Sun 15-Sep-13 12:37:50

isshoes I found the OP's language misogynist, yes. It's not a word I "bandy around" every day, and I reserve the right to call it when I see it: you don't get to tell people how they should and shouldn't respond to language.

EmmaBemma Sun 15-Sep-13 12:38:59

though I do take your point, ryangoslingspants, that you didn't intend it to come across that way.

Gruntfuttock Sun 15-Sep-13 12:42:00

OP, I think you are being VVU to want to stitch Miley's mouth closed.
A staple gun would be so much quicker and less labour-intensive. I wouldn't be without mine.

VitoCorleone Sun 15-Sep-13 12:48:04

I think she looks like the third member of Jedward.

cocolepew Sun 15-Sep-13 12:59:17

I think she lucked out with Hannah Montana, she wasn't even the most talented in her own show Lily was

I had to suffer it when the DDs were younger and the movie was soul destroying.

ubik Sun 15-Sep-13 14:38:45

Frankly I don't think the tongue waggling bottom wiggling crotch grabbing persona is Miley either. In fact I don't Miley even knows who she us. Apart from someone who can shift units and make money for shareholders.

ubik Sun 15-Sep-13 14:40:32

you don't get to tell people how they should and shouldn't respond to language.

Why on earth not? grin

cannotfuckingbelievethis Sun 15-Sep-13 16:02:58

If I'm being completely honest I still don't get why my original comment has been perceived as mysoginistic. I do not suggest that she shouldn't be sticking her tongue out because she is female or that she should be silenced but simply state that it's bloody annoying and getting a bit old now.

isshoes Sun 15-Sep-13 17:12:02

EmmaBemma tell me how it's misogynistic?

isshoes Sun 15-Sep-13 17:18:06

And I wasn't telling you how to do anything, I was pointing out a misnomer.

12thDoctorsCompanion Sun 15-Sep-13 19:22:41

Im in complete shock that posters are taking the OPs metaphor so literally!

how many threads are titles with similar metaphors and phrases? like wanting to string up a politician by his Jacobs or send some shamelebrity into a black hole and other examples?

SirChenjin Sun 15-Sep-13 19:26:10

But this is MN 12thdoctor, the place where the concept of 'tongue in cheek' has yet to be invented wink

MalcolmTuckersMistress Sun 15-Sep-13 19:35:38

Crickey I agree with you 12thDoctorsCompanion it always amazes me when people take such offence! Bit silly really.

Anyway OP yanbu, but I must admit if I looked as good as her I'd be equally as irritating!

12thDoctorsCompanion Sun 15-Sep-13 19:43:53

Sirchenjin unforch Miley does not keep HER toungue in her cheek! grin.

DownstairsMixUp Sun 15-Sep-13 19:51:03

She's rubbish poking her tongue out or keeping it in. She can't sing very well, she has no real talent.

SirChenjin Sun 15-Sep-13 19:51:59

So true 12th! grin
