I fecking LOVE the song Blurred Lines and don't care who knows this.

Flame away....

Beamur Sun 25-Aug-13 18:01:29

It's very catchy...but I am quite old and haven't seen the video so am not sure what all the hoo-haa is about grin

TylerHopkins Sun 25-Aug-13 18:03:15

I love it too, the tune that is but not the dodgy lyrics!

Euphemia Sun 25-Aug-13 18:04:58

The lyrics are offensive and in the explicit version of the video the women are naked bar a teeny pair of flesh-coloured panties and the men are fully-clothed. The whole thing makes my flesh creep and my blood boil.

YABU.

catgirl1976 Sun 25-Aug-13 18:06:05

I think you are being U

I like it but I don't think I need to start a thread about it. Lots of people find it offensive, therefore starting a thread saying you like it just seems to be looking for a bun fight.

Alisvolatpropiis Sun 25-Aug-13 18:07:45

Yanbu.

Your opinion innit.

TensionWheelsCoolHeels Sun 25-Aug-13 18:09:08

You can enjoy the catchiness without the misogyny by listening to [[ http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wRcVQDELAd4&desktop_uri=/watch?v=wRcVQDELAd4 This]] instead.

The news is that Marvin Gaye's family/estate has rejected a 'huge' settlement from el thicko, and will proceed with their lawsuit against the unoriginal chancer.

Mintyy Sun 25-Aug-13 18:10:15

Yabu.

Mintyy Sun 25-Aug-13 18:10:55

I hate the tune too!

magicstar1 Sun 25-Aug-13 18:15:55

Same here OP...I love it too

Mia4 Sun 25-Aug-13 18:22:30

YANBU to like what you like. YABU to feel the need to shout it on here though, that's what fb and social media is for. Go for it there, from some of the posts I've seen you may start a debate or get people soapboxing for and against.

That's what free speech is for. You can like what you like and shout it if you want. I can also say I think anyone who thinks treating women as objects and that non consensual sex is a bit of a blurred topic makes themselves sound ignorant and probably not that clever.

Wasapea Sun 25-Aug-13 18:37:42

<Puts Blurred Lines on and dances about (with clothes on)>

I love it too

Edendance Sun 25-Aug-13 18:39:16

And me! LOVE it!

guiltyconscience Sun 25-Aug-13 18:41:30

I love it too and I'm an old fuddy duddy who doesn't like the lyrics either but.....

FutTheShuckUp Sun 25-Aug-13 18:56:54

See I don't see it as anything to do with non consensual sex but sexual liberation and getting down and dirty. Which I as a consenting adult actually enjoy, at times. Funny how we interpret things in different ways.

Vivacia Sun 25-Aug-13 19:03:06
Vivacia Sun 25-Aug-13 19:05:06

Funny how we interpret things in different ways.

Yep, we can all interpret violent anal sex differently hmm

SkinnybitchWannabe Sun 25-Aug-13 19:22:10

I also think its a great dancy track

Sparklingbrook Sun 25-Aug-13 19:26:38

I like it as a tune, lyrics and dodgy video aside. But Ellie Goulding's 'Burn' is a real tune with a naice video.

TheSlug Sun 25-Aug-13 19:29:01

I love it, and the lyrics which I do not think are about 'non consensual sex' at all!!

SuperFlea Sun 25-Aug-13 19:54:45

YABU because you're clearly just fishing for a reaction hmm

I'm with Vivacia on this one

FutTheShuckUp Sun 25-Aug-13 19:56:52

He's boasting about the size of his tool, not threatening ass rape. FFS

FutTheShuckUp Sun 25-Aug-13 19:58:41

So it's allowed and encouraged for there to be god knows how many threads saying how outraged people are by the song but not one the other way round because its fishing for a reaction?

Vivacia Sun 25-Aug-13 20:07:30

I don't think the threads Against have been encouraged and I think your right to enjoy rapey lyrics and say so, has been defended.

The video I linked to above has the same catchy tune but celebrated sexuality without demeaning women.

tingsandtings Sun 25-Aug-13 20:16:29

vicacia I don't see the similarity between the two tbh. The Marvin one was boring. The Blurred lines one much better.

Sheshelob Sun 25-Aug-13 20:21:45

Someone hasn't got better things to do than start a weak-ass bun fight on MN about a creepy dad dancing anthem.

Living the dream, eh, OP?

Vivacia Sun 25-Aug-13 20:26:18

I linked to the Mod Carousel one tings not the Marvin song (took me a while to figure out what you were referring to!).

tingsandtings Sun 25-Aug-13 20:28:08

The link took me straight to Marvin! That's probably why I didn't see a similarity! Thanks. Ill try again...

everlong Sun 25-Aug-13 20:29:30

No accounting for taste I suppose.

it's shit

Vivacia Sun 25-Aug-13 20:33:22

It didn't for me tings are you using the link I posted at 19:03? Is anyone else having trouble?

Try Googling Mod Carousel Blurred Lines?

Nancy66 Sun 25-Aug-13 20:35:00

The song is catchy the video is just horrible though.

Bamboobambino Sun 25-Aug-13 20:37:32

Love it myself.
Also loving the fact you've started a thread to get all the judgey pants lot out in force.

CorrineFoxworth Sun 25-Aug-13 20:39:49

Jimmy Kimmel did a good parody here

Listening to that pile of steaming poo just made me even more grateful that I grew up in the 70s and 80s :D

notnagging Sun 25-Aug-13 20:48:51

Yabu & a bit thick op. Look up what thikko himself said about the song. Did you not see the goat in reference to beastiality? He thinks its funny & the main model says its okay because her mum is a feminist.shock
There are so many songs like this around that people just accept as harmless. Champagne showers, superman that ho, blow my whistle baby? All top ten songs that our children are singing. But hey op, at least they've got a catchy tune.confused

DoJo Sun 25-Aug-13 20:49:51

I have never heard the song, but after reading about it at length on here, I just googled the lyrics and I am a bit surprised - what exactly are people bothered about in them? It read to me like fairly standard R n B borderline nonsense, but nothing that was overtly misogynistic or violent. Am I now so old that I literally don't understand what the lyrics mean?

InsultingBadger Sun 25-Aug-13 20:57:12

The song is infuriating - the tune is fantastic but the lyrics are horrendous! Damn you lyrics

Neitheronethingortheother Sun 25-Aug-13 21:06:23

Just played it there in case I was familiar with it and realised it was the song I was dancing around to earlier today. Doesn't seem too bad to me.

notnagging Sun 25-Aug-13 21:09:21

The tune is fantastic because he copied it from Marvin Gaye & is now suing his family incase they sue him!

Alisvolatpropiis Sun 25-Aug-13 21:39:21

I like the song. It's a great tune and I like dancing to it in a club and on my own at home with my friends.

I don't like the video much but it's no different to so many out there I don't see why this one has caused so much outrage in particular.

Look up Push me until I get my satisfaction or put your hands up for Detroit.

ipredicttrouble Sun 25-Aug-13 22:21:11

Horrendous, lyrics & video are completely wrong on so many levels. Can't find anything good to say about this and yes am aghast that some women find this kind of thing acceptable. Awful. End of.

utreas Sun 25-Aug-13 22:25:39

YADNBU I think its a great song.

Robin, telling us who he is...

“We tried to do everything that was taboo. Bestiality, drug injections, and everything that is completely derogatory towards women. Because all three of us are happily married with children, we were like, “We’re the perfect guys to make fun of this.”
People say, “Hey, do you think this is degrading to women?” I’m like, “ Of course it is. What a pleasure it is to degrade a woman. I’ve never gotten to do that before. I’ve always respected women.” So we just wanted to turn it over on its head and make people go, “Women and their bodies are beautiful. Men are always gonna want to follow them around.”“

everlong Sun 25-Aug-13 22:28:30

It's utter bilge.

Cheese on cheese.

Nancy66 Sun 25-Aug-13 22:32:56

Blimey, Robin sure lives up to his name.

RobynThicke Sun 25-Aug-13 22:34:19

I'm quite partial to it too grin

Alisvolatpropiis Sun 25-Aug-13 22:34:29

ipredict

I find it amazing women are wringing their hands about this song rather than the bigger issues at play. Lets live and let love eh?

ThedementedPenguin Sun 25-Aug-13 22:36:11

I really like the song.

Video is a bit stupid but I don't really tend to watch them too often plus it's not like he's the first one to 'degrade' women during a music video. Unfortunately he won't be the last.

KittyVonCatsworth Sun 25-Aug-13 22:38:14

Love it too! Don't really see the reference to rape throughout despite googling the lyrics.....I certainly see the reference to anal sex, but anal sex does not equal rapist IMO.

acer12 Sun 25-Aug-13 22:40:45

I love it!

Lovecat Sun 25-Aug-13 22:56:56
Backtobedlam Sun 25-Aug-13 23:28:26

Like the tune, not seen the video. I thought the lyrics were trying to cash in on the success of the Fifty Shades series tbh...but as I seem to be the only one that thinks that, it may be an off the wall interpretation!

Slippydippysoap Sun 25-Aug-13 23:39:54

It's fucking horrid. The video made me feel a bit ill.

And the lyrics are fine except for the anal rape bit. hmm

MagratOfStolat Sun 25-Aug-13 23:44:01

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I.AM.DYING

Lovecat - that is the best video ever...

Alisvolatpropiis Sun 25-Aug-13 23:44:29

It's not anal rape though is it? It's a bloke saying he's got a massive cock.

Slippydippysoap Sun 25-Aug-13 23:55:04

Love the Mod video. Much better. Less rapey.

Euphemia Mon 26-Aug-13 07:06:57

Love the spoof! I often wonder if I'm the only boring old fart in the world that thinks this type of music is utter shite - so glad to know I'm not!

Vivacia Mon 26-Aug-13 07:14:35

Thinking about it objectively, the lyric about tearing a woman's arse in two might not mean it in a negative way. If only we didn't have the song writer's claim that it was.

catgirl1976 Mon 26-Aug-13 09:33:29

To be fair, if a man told me he had something that would "rip my ass in two", whilst I would think he was referring to the impressive size of his penis rather than making any sort of threat, I would also think:

"You're alright there matey. I gave birth to a 9lb 1 baby with forceps and an emergency episiotomy. That "ripped my ass in two" and it's not something I fancy repeating really. I had to sit on frozen sanitary pads for a month. It wasn't very sexy."

Vivacia Mon 26-Aug-13 09:54:01

Yeah, it's almost as if the idea of having your body ripped apart isn't a turn on. For some of us.

Truffkin Mon 26-Aug-13 10:08:05

Lovecat thank you for that link. I haven't seen that and am LOLing, actually am grin

CorrineFoxworth Mon 26-Aug-13 12:09:20

Lovecat that is excellent!
