To not fancy Brad Pitt or George Clooney and other cliches of our time

This is meant to be light-hearted and if you have an enormous crush on either (or both) of these fine actors, then fair play to you but am I alone in thinking that a lot of lazy, cliched chick lit presumes that just cos you're a heterosexual woman in your 40s you're automatically gagging for these two? Feel free to add your own most hated cliche, chick lit or otherwise.

Not for these 2, no thanks (but if you'd mentioned Vin Diesel, oh it would have been a different story!) grin
Actually, Bill Pullman turns my insides to mush in "While you were SLeeping"!

momnipotent Sun 28-Jul-13 11:56:22

Brad Pitt looks like he hasn't washed in months. Cannot see the attraction there at all!

FreudiansSlipper Sun 28-Jul-13 11:59:12

Mel Gibson

Before his real self showed I could never see the attraction

or Patrick Swayze

This idea that women want muscly men. <shudders>

Flobbadobs Sun 28-Jul-13 11:59:53

YANBU! Although Jonny Depp now is rather yum...
Bill Pullman used to be hot, not so much anymore, he just looked creepy in Torchwood.
Don't do chick lit anyway, if I met a real life Bridget Jones type or any of those other 'heroines' I'd be tempted to slap them. That goes for the male characters too.
Any bloke who looks like he spends longer to get ready than me is a big no no.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf Sun 28-Jul-13 12:02:24

I don't fancy GC, BP or Johnny Depp which makes me a modern medical miracle. I just don't like being corralled. There is nothing less sexy than being told THIS IS WHAT YOU MUST FIND SEXY.

cushtie335 Sun 28-Jul-13 12:02:42

Keep them coming ladies!

I still love John Cusak after seeing him in Say Anything many years ago, he's never really been a cliched heart throb. Don't restrict the cliches to men we're "supposed" to fancy, throw them all out there, it's liberating!!

londonrach Sun 28-Jul-13 12:02:45

Probably abit strong here but the moment brad did the dirty on my friend rachel from friends he became the most unattractive man. I refuse to see anything with him or spider lady in. Over the years he's getting less attractive whilst jen aka rachel is getting better.

londonrach Sun 28-Jul-13 12:03:46

Now Robert Sean Leonard from dead poets society and house.....Or gilbert from Anne if green gables.....

iwouldgoouttonight Sun 28-Jul-13 12:03:59

I don't see the attraction with Brad Pitt at all, no idea how he can be considered good looking. George Clooney on the other hand is rather nice to look at. But I don't tend to fancy traditionally 'hot' men. I had quite a saucy nice dream about Chris O'Dowd last night.

SilverOldie Sun 28-Jul-13 12:04:35

I've never seen the appeal of Brad Pitt - Alan Rickman is the only one for me smile

Punkatheart Sun 28-Jul-13 12:04:41

My OH worked on a film with Clooney and got to spend some time with him. He persuaded my OH that the lifestyle of the single man was great - it was essential to be free. He had an Italian underwear model on his arm at the time and spent half of his time in Italy, half filming. My OH subsquently left me after 20 years together. It will in time make a very funny story but I am not keen on the Clooney. He has a bad back and is claustrophobia - loves playing 'practical' jokes that are not funny. He gave some members of the crew a wooden swing as a present. Swingers, geddit? But then I never was keen on Clooney - a man has to have some substance for me. Brad Pitt similarly always seemed like a pretty boy. Now he seems very ropey - I find nothing to get excited about.

Give me Hugh Jackman any day. Manly but sweet, funny when interviewed and clearly bonkers about his wife. Now THAT'S a sexy man!

recall Sun 28-Jul-13 12:04:57

Daniel Craig in his pants - no thanks

I'd much rather have andrew scott

Sean Connery went through a very "yum" phase, not when he was young though, and not now either.
I never understood the whole thing about Kevin Costner, Van Damme, Siegal, Tom Cruise (??), Michael J Fox (am I showing my age now?)

Punkatheart Sun 28-Jul-13 12:05:43

...phobic, not phobia. Typo.

Punkatheart Sun 28-Jul-13 12:06:33

Michael J Fox - I get very warm feelings. He was a pocket prince.

Hugh Jackman, definitely a yes from me, and I'm sorry to say that Colin Firth does too!

Flobbadobs Sun 28-Jul-13 12:06:59

A lot have aged very well though, I watched The Invention of Lying last night (godawful film!) and thought Rob Lowe has grown into his face rather nicely, even with the silly glasses on.
I usually agree with Heat magazines weird crush article. Give me a bit of a geek who can laugh me into bed any day!!
It's being told which women we should emulate that really arses me off, much more than having 'attractive' men shoved down my throat.
That TOWIE bunch and the like are people we should hold up to our daughters as role models? Not bloody likely!

cushtie335 Sun 28-Jul-13 12:07:02

Agree completely about Tom Cruise, he always had little rodenty teeth and no sense of his own limitations. Something very creepy about him.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf Sun 28-Jul-13 12:08:57

Clooney is smug and didactic. He looks like one of those men who is so lovely and charming as long as you never criticise or question him (like EA men - not saying he is one btw). I used to like him and he seemed one of the good guys - making interesting films over blockbusters, supporting the right causes. But now I think he does it out of vanity and megalomania as opposed to someone like Matt Damon who does genuinely seem committed to advocating certain issues.

Hugh jackman <swoon>

And Robert Downey when Hugh is busy.

Flobbadobs Sun 28-Jul-13 12:11:37

Robert Downey jr. Oh yes... Never has a beard looked so good...
And David Mitchell... blush although a night with him would be spent having intelligent debate, a nice glass of port with good cheeses and a peck on the cheek I think...

iwouldgoouttonight Sun 28-Jul-13 12:15:47

Oh yes, Huge Jackman. I also quite like Bradley Cooper and Adam Scott (I'm basing these entirely on looks [shallow], I know nothing of their personalities!)

Tom Cruise is just plain odd.

iwouldgoouttonight Sun 28-Jul-13 12:16:30

Hugh not Huge blush

I've no idea as to his size.

Pobblewhohasnotoes Sun 28-Jul-13 12:16:52

I don't get the attraction of George Clooney but I think Brad Pitt is hot, have done for years. He's top of my celeb list!

I used to love Robert Downey Jr when he was in Ally McBeal.

Flobbadobs Sun 28-Jul-13 12:20:49

iwould rumour has it you were right the first time... grin

DiseasesOfTheSheep Sun 28-Jul-13 12:20:52

Hmmm, I think I might just be out of whack with normality... I currently fancy Rhod Gilbert, Greg Davies and Hugh Laurie... I'm in my mid twenties. I clearly like older men grin

Robert Sean Leonard is lovely too though.

foslady Sun 28-Jul-13 12:22:43

I still go doe eyed over Harrison Ford......despite the age gap......but then again, Humphrey Bogart still has the same effect (probably HF basing some of his characters on Humph helps along with that smile of his...........[goes off into daydream emocon]blush

amigababy Sun 28-Jul-13 12:23:09

YANBU. they are too safe, too symmetrical, too predictable. Not keen on Johnny Depp either.

I Do have a soft spot for Tom Cruise, first crush and all that.

but sportsmen are where it's at. I can't stop looking are David Beckham adverts, brave Geraint Thomas cycling the Tour with a fractured pelvis, his mate Peter Kennaugh and of course ........

Rafa (VAMOS)

Flobbadobs Sun 28-Jul-13 12:26:03

Richard Burton back in the day was a looker. And that voice!! I'm a sucker for the welsh accent. Hence my constant downloading of Rhod Gilbert's podcasts...
Sean Lock does it for me. Sharp and witty.

motherinferior Sun 28-Jul-13 12:30:35

Whoever said Rickman can get her filthy paws off him, he is MINE. I'll take Peter Capaldi at the same time, thanks.

mrsjay Sun 28-Jul-13 12:35:50

Brad was just beautiful in Interview with a Vampire I mean just stunning in it,
now he just looks like a smelly stoned old man he makes my skin crawl now, was never into george clooney really he seems to think he is cary grant or somebody .

mrsjay Sun 28-Jul-13 12:40:04

Bendict (no face) cumberbatch I am sorry i just dont see it he has no facial features and looks a bit lizardy yet women are wetting their pants over him confused

MariaLuna Sun 28-Jul-13 12:41:03

I agree, George Clooney and Brad Pitt are way over-rated..... I did like Brad in Thelma and Louise but agree with another poster who says he now looks like he doesn't wash!

Can't stand the self-obsession of him and Angelina and their brood either.

Johnny Depp on the other hand... grin
I also like Andy Garcia.

Another one I can't stand is Jennifer Aniston, so insipid. Always playing the "goodie goodie girl next door". (Well, I presume, I never watch her films!).

cushtie335 Sun 28-Jul-13 12:41:09

lol at "no face"

Raahh Sun 28-Jul-13 12:42:57

ooh, amiga- Vamos indeedgrin

I've never thought much of Clooney- he has that constant smug look on his face that is supposed to be 'acting'. I liked Brad Pitt in 'Seven' looking a bit rough, far more than during his pretty boy legends of the fall stage.

I've always fancied Gary Oldman. I don't think he's aging particularly well, and is a bit bonkers, but I still wouldwink

And Michael Sheen. He's very underrated, imo.

Flobbadobs Sun 28-Jul-13 12:44:21

mrsjay he's much better when he's muscled up though as he was in Star Trek.
Tom Hiddleston is mine btw, just in case anyone was wondering, but not in the Avengers films.

cushtie335 Sun 28-Jul-13 12:44:41

mmmm....Michael Sheen is gorgeous, and I love when his Welsh accent creeps in. He's lovely in interviews as well, very funny and self deprecating. I think he's probably the best Briitsh actor in the world at the moment.

mrsjay Sun 28-Jul-13 12:45:32

did the muscle fill out his face though ? even my 15 yr old and her friend fancy him hmm

Flobbadobs Sun 28-Jul-13 12:49:24

His face looked a lot less angular than it does in Sherlock strangely, much more handsome in the conventional sense.

Raahh Sun 28-Jul-13 12:49:57

cushtie -I agree, he's so different in everything he does, a real 'character' actor.

Celador Sun 28-Jul-13 12:52:13

I can't see the attraction of Mark Wright from TOWIE - he's half man, half smug bottle of fake tan.

Ditto the Clooney - never seen the attraction of his fake joviality.

elQuintoConyo Sun 28-Jul-13 12:56:25

The Clooney, the Pitt, the Cruise (yea gads!), the Jackman - SORRY!
Also: Ryan Reynolds, Josh Hartnett, Chris Pine, David Beckham - SORRY, AGAIN!

Johny Depp years ago, before the Pirates Fiasco, as I call it. He was beautiful in Ed Wood, Dead Man, Donnie Brasco, Cry Baby... now he's a bit meh, imvho.

I have a soft spot for: Nicholas Cage, Judd Nelson, Val Kilmer, Rob Lowe, Paul Bettany, Keanu Reeves.
God, I'm old!

elQuintoConyo Sun 28-Jul-13 12:58:43

Oh, and whoever mentioned Andy Garcia - always yum.
Hmm... also Kevin Spacey, I always think he seems to have a great sense of humour and we could get stoned and talk shit grin

Ezio Sun 28-Jul-13 13:00:29

Jason Isaacs, hes mine, and those men from Horrible Histories,

Mrsrobertduvall Sun 28-Jul-13 13:01:48

I like the older man as you can tell by my MN name grin

I would also happily be Mrs David Bowie.

Ezio Sun 28-Jul-13 13:03:08

Also those yummy Bondi lifeguards, i know which 10 i'd do and in what order.

Now, River Phoenix was just beautiful. Too polished for my taste, but still beautiful!

itsonlyapapermoon Sun 28-Jul-13 13:09:49

Keanu Reeves...especially in Speed/Point Break! The rest-meh. There are literally no male actors in the past 10 years that have done it for me. And as for Channing Tatum...[boak] I don't understand the whole beefcake/fake tan/pink lipstick thing on guys. It makes my skin crawl. And Tom Cruise. The creepiest smarm of them all. Ew.

jamdonut Sun 28-Jul-13 13:19:17

Happily married and love my husband ,but I love each member of Muse, individually.
I know most people think Matthew Bellamy is odd looking (not me), but Oh! He is a GOD on stage, and extremely clever to boot which I find highly attractive, also Dominic Howard...I love drummers... and Chris Wolsteholme...what a bass player!! And they both have the looks too! 3 very different looking people who are all very attractive to me. Even their unofficial 4th member,Morgan Nicholls, is a talented man... grin

Punkatheart Sun 28-Jul-13 13:25:55

Some inside info on some of those gorgeous (and not so gorgeous) men.

Keanu Reeves is very very beautiful - even my OH found him attractive when he met him in the flesh. However he is very very stupid and had to be rescued from a loo that he locked himself in, in the film studios.

Tom Cruise is very sweet and charming apparently but a loner in lots of ways. He has anger issues.

Rickman would never let you get a word in edgeways and a date with him would be all ABOUT HIM. He stole some props from the HP set and was particularly drama queeny.

Pink lipstick on a man. Oh dear. Only Eddie Izzard can get away with that.

But I am liking this thread. Lots of men for a Sunday morning. It really has been a while.

I'm afraid that having seen many actors in the flesh and seen how vain and vacuous they are, makes me very cynical.

I do have a very embarassing one. VERY. I had a terrible crush on the young William Shatner. Truss and wig notwithstanding. There. I said it. I do also love Robert Carlyle - but I am open and dribbly about that.

DiaryOfAWimpyMum Sun 28-Jul-13 13:30:03

I thought I was odd not like George, Brad Pitt, Johhny Depp...

I love Calvin Harris, lead singer from Lawson and a few others who are also way too young for me

DiaryOfAWimpyMum Sun 28-Jul-13 13:30:37

Sorry, not Calvin Harrison lead singer Lawson

Calvin Harris and Lawson

AllYoursBabooshka Sun 28-Jul-13 13:31:38

Oh Benedict... <swoons>

DH decided introducing me to Sherlock would be a great idea for us to spend time together during his paternity leave, I had no idea who Mr Cumberbatch was before last week.

I think his lovely "us time" plan has slightly backfired as I -and my post natal hormones- have spent the whole time sighing wistfully at Sherlocks bewitching bake.

I want to sniff him.

ClaraBean Sun 28-Jul-13 13:32:52

I have never liked George Clooney or Brad Pitt. At all.
Not actors, but my mega crushes are Jon Ronson and Eddie Vedder. They are hot as hot could be.

ClaraBean Sun 28-Jul-13 13:33:48

Oh, and Woody Allen when he was young

ClaraBean Sun 28-Jul-13 13:34:37

Oh God, yes to Benedict. And Martin Freeman. Sherlock is awash with sexy men.

TheCrackFox Sun 28-Jul-13 13:34:58

I thought I was odd in not fancying Brad Pitt or George Clooney, or really anyone I am supposed to fancy. (Apart from Keanu Reeves in Speed.)

I'm not keen on the muscly look, fake tan, "perfection" thing that Hollywood has foisted on us.

fakebook Sun 28-Jul-13 13:35:15

I stopped having crushes on celebs after I met my husband. Weird but true. I've never liked George Clooney or Brad Pitt. My biggest crush was Josh Hartnett. I feel "meh" about him now.

AllYoursBabooshka Sun 28-Jul-13 13:40:40

I like to think I am much to interesting (yeah right) to fancy someone as expected as George Clooney however... I reckon if we met and he did that smile/head tilt thing he does I would giggle and blush with the rest of the world.

Brad Pitt in Legends Of The Fall as Tristan still gives me palpitations.

Lizzabadger Sun 28-Jul-13 13:42:14

Out of all I these I only fancy Keanu Reeves, John Cusack (although he is weird on twitter) and David Beckham (a bit). Brad Pitt et al. do absolutely nothing for me. Glad I'm not the only one.

AllYoursBabooshka Sun 28-Jul-13 13:47:32

Yy, Martin Freeman.

Although I can't really fancy him as he looks just like a grown up version of my 5 yo DS.

I'm just glad DH is a suspicious man because it really is uncanny.

AllYoursBabooshka Sun 28-Jul-13 13:48:08

guiltyconscience Sun 28-Jul-13 13:52:04

I do like Greg Kinnear and Luke Wilson also have a secret( and not very proud about it) penchant for Steven Segal yes I know I am mad lol!

jammiedonut Sun 28-Jul-13 13:57:01

Brandon flowers, Michael weatherly (tony ncis), Grissom from csi. Always had a soft spot for characters with intelligence so Anthony Hopkins in silence of the lambs no less was a very awkward crush in my teenage years. And Orlando bloom, but only as an elf. I think I have issues!

jammiedonut Sun 28-Jul-13 13:57:57

Jason isaacs and Michael fassbender. They're on my list

Treagues Sun 28-Jul-13 13:58:27

Oh thank goodness, I thought I was alone.
Clooney in a white coat in early ER: yes. I was young. It faded quickly (though he was nice in Out of Sight.)
Never really seen the attraction of most male actors to be honest.
Daniel Craig as Bond, I do love him, shame the films are such misogynistic shite. Also, he knows what he's doing and wears very tight trousers. For some unknown reason this works for me blush
I went to see The Great Gatsby with a friend who has a huge thing for Leonardo di Caprio. I have never ever understood the attraction.

Actually I'd like to have someone I could fancy a bit, I miss having celeb crushes like I did in my 20s. Colin Firth, Alan Rickman, Robbie Williams (oh god no). If nothing else it makes choosing films on Netflix harder when you don't have anyone fanciable to put in the search field.

Mrsdavidcaruso Sun 28-Jul-13 14:06:54

Never liked BP or GC but oh my word the redheaded sex god that is Mr David Caruso (Horatio CSI Miami) or the sexy silver fox Mark Harmon (Leroy Jethro Gibbs NCIS) yummy yummy dribble - both old enough to be my Father BTW

Solari Sun 28-Jul-13 14:08:35

Never much seen the appeal in Brad Pitt, and always thought of George Clooney as decidedly average, until I saw him in Solaris! Instant swooning love, and the new nickname were born. wink

amigababy Sun 28-Jul-13 14:12:34

Hellooooo Jason Isaacs!!

zatyaballerina Sun 28-Jul-13 14:15:16

I think Brad Pitt is becoming sexier as he ages and loses the prettiness, only physically though, in interviews he comes across as the most boring man on the planet. I don't know how Angelina Jolie can listen to him, she's a million times smarter. He can act though and is watchable onscreen.

George Clooney comes across as quite smarmy and he's quite bullying in interviews when someone asks him a question he doesn't like. I have no respect for him since I saw an interview where a journalist asked him about his working with Nestle, instead of answering the question he complained about it being an irritating question and whined that he had to make money somehow. He's a hypocrite and appears to be an egomaniac that wants to be surrounded by yes people telling him (quite wrongly) what a genius he is. He's not funny either.

I've always loved John Cusack, there's something very sexy about him and he's so intelligent, interesting and well read, his interviews are very enjoyable.

Tatum Channing is incredibly sexy when he's dancing.

RafflesWay Sun 28-Jul-13 14:20:31

More of a Russell Crowe woman myself. Not bothered if he is paunchy or muscley, bad tempered etc. etc. as I just love a man who looks like he would grab me by the hair and drag me to his cave!! As you can tell I like my men to look a bit, "lived in." GC or BP - no thanks!

muppetthecow Sun 28-Jul-13 14:25:28

Never got the gc or bp thing I'm afraid, though I did have a brief obsession with Tom Cruise 's hands in interview with a vampire... blush

it's all about Richard Armitage for me at the mo- especially when he's wearing glasses. Also still have a soft spot for Sean Bean as Sharpe. What can I say? It's the uniform and the rifle…

squoosh Sun 28-Jul-13 15:22:31

It must be weird for BP to know that there's a phrase 'He's no Brad Pitt' that describes someone who isn't the prettiest although these days Brad Pitt himself could be described as being no Brad Pitt. He stirred my 12 year old loins in Thelma and Louise, but that's about it. He takes himself far too seriously and isn't half as intelligent as he thinks he is. As for Angelina and their army of children........Zzzzzzzzzz.

Clooney was great in ER and has made some interesting film choices but he's far too smooth and Hollywood to be fanciable.

Why is it that people always use Alan Rickman as an example of how 'eclectic' their tastes are. Everyone says they fancy Alan Rickman. Meh.

I currently have a thing for Ralph Fiennes. I bet he is absolutely filthy in the sack although looks as though he'd be hugely moody and method actory.

BlueStones Sun 28-Jul-13 15:27:59

I never saw the appeal of Brad Pitt either, but I've always been met with utter disbelief (from men and women) whenever I've said that in real life. To me he's ordinary - not too plain, not really attractive, just very normal looking. Then again I think about several female celebrities that I'm supposed to want to emulate (Cheryl Cole being the prime example).

BridgetBidet Sun 28-Jul-13 15:38:05

Brad Pitt looks awful these days, too much surgery and fiddling with his face. And I don't like him cos of what he did to Jen. He seems like a bit of an arse.

George Clooney is good looking but he, also, seems like a bit of an arse and I do subscribe to the whole beard theory tbh.

Now Matt from 'This Morning' and Jack Branning. Yum.

AmIthatHot Sun 28-Jul-13 15:41:26

oh lizzabadger I was just away to say about John Cusack and twitter. I stopped following him because of his odd tweets and retweets.

I still would, though grin

I have never found George or Brad remotely attractive. Nor Richard Gere for that matter.

And Benedict?? urgh no, can't see it either

Not sure who lights my fire these days. Hmmm maybe Chris Gascoyne at the moment, with his lovely streaks of silver and that lovely beard

BridgetBidet Sun 28-Jul-13 15:46:31

Oh Richard Gere mings. And takes himself far to seriously.

squoosh Sun 28-Jul-13 15:48:46

Oh yes to whomever mentioned Jason Isaacs, he is delicious!

thebody Sun 28-Jul-13 15:48:59

god no to Brad, poor Jen, George is ok.

but for me it's Becks.

BridgetBidet Sun 28-Jul-13 16:09:56

Agree thebody. Becks looks like he'd be a right dirty bastard too. In a good way.

cushtie335 Sun 28-Jul-13 16:16:01

I always think John Simm would be filthy in the bedroom. I used to be mental for him and Philip Glenister (big Life on Mars fan), now I just think they're both great actors and seem like a good laugh. But yes, I still "would" lol.

thebody Sun 28-Jul-13 16:17:16

ooh yes defiantly Bridget.

Still18atheart Sun 28-Jul-13 16:20:27

I never got the attraction of Johnny Depp, Justin Timberlake or Patrick Swayze.

I wouldn't say no to Tom Cruise, back in the Top Gun days . Is that deemed odd???

BridgetBidet Sun 28-Jul-13 16:23:42

Is it wrong that I found Matt from This Morning dangerously sexy when he was done up as Rod Stewart on Your Face Sound Familiar last night.

I totally LOVE him. Even in leopard print leggings and a fright wig.

cushtie335 Sun 28-Jul-13 16:27:24

^^ You're not well

SilverOldie Sun 28-Jul-13 16:31:26

"Whoever said Rickman can get her filthy paws off him, he is MINE. I'll take Peter Capaldi at the same time, thanks."

EXCUSE ME (trying to be polite here) but he is MINE. I don't care if he stole props from HP or would only talk about himself.

In the absence of dear Alan, I wouldn't say no to David Ginola or Jean-Christoph Novelli.

Do we get points for guessing how many of the men mentioned on this thread are actually closet gays?

cushtie335 Sun 28-Jul-13 16:50:13

I don't do twitter, can anyone tell me what's weird about John Cusacks tweets? Shame, I really like him too sad

GameSetAndMatch Sun 28-Jul-13 17:06:51

Used to like River Phoenix too.

agree with Op, and also cant stand Rafa (hiya Raah!!), beckham isjust ewwwww, all scowls, tats and pants. just dont get it.

LOVE the typo of HUGE jackman. really???

and most names on here I cant stand.

now the horrible history guys on the other hand..........swoon.

bluesbaby Sun 28-Jul-13 17:08:23

Agreed. Cheeseballs do nothing for me. GC comes across an arrogant wanker. BP was only cute in Thelma and Louise. TC is just... a weirdo.

I have always had a soft spot for Pierce Brosnan. Especially since Mama Mia, I like that he does all sorts of roles and doesn't always play leading men. He doesn't take himself too seriously. Remember The Lawnmower Man? Lol

Daniel Craig has very nice eyes. Very sparkly and blue. He just comes across a bit too stupid for me.

My soft spots: Sam Worthington, Aaron Paul, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and Dominic West. Lots of British actors (exc. Aaron). :D

mrsjay Sun 28-Jul-13 17:11:30

Is it wrong that I found Matt from This Morning dangerously sexy when he was done up as Rod Stewart on Your Face Sound Familiar last night.

is it wrong that i wanted to squeeze his bum in those leggings that is v v wrong isnt it blush

cushtie335 Sun 28-Jul-13 17:11:51

Dominic West played a blinder as Richard Burton in that BBC4 drama the other night, he was just gorgeous. I used to like Tom Hardy but I think he's a bit odd. Great lips though.

Eilidhbelle Sun 28-Jul-13 17:13:48

Richard Gere gives me the hairy boak after he slimed all over Shilpa Shetty. A definite no from me.

Harrison Ford would still be my number one. Temple of Doom was on last night and I had to go for a lie-down, it was too much for my 32-week-pregnant self!

squoosh Sun 28-Jul-13 17:15:09

Harrison Ford was at his peak in Witness. Watched it a few weeks ago and swooned throughout.

Alconleigh Sun 28-Jul-13 17:15:37

Clooney and Jackman are both on the other bus aren't they?
Pitt past his peak.
Fassbender looks like absolute filth, I would, till it fell off...

I really need to calm down...

Eilidhbelle Sun 28-Jul-13 17:16:24

YES squoosh! Well played.

Goooooooooooooooooooooood Sun 28-Jul-13 17:17:14

I don't fancy brad Pitt, George cloony, Mel Gibson, Tom cruise, will Smith, leanardo DiCario etc. Hugh grant is particularly unfancy'able

I like Richard of Pointless though .

Salbertina Sun 28-Jul-13 17:17:21

YABVVU smile

Salbertina Sun 28-Jul-13 17:17:21

YABVVU smile

mrsjay Sun 28-Jul-13 17:19:11

Hugh Jackman is married with a wife and children he could sit on my bus anytime though going to see wolverine next week I cant wait grin

cushtie335 Sun 28-Jul-13 17:20:32

Salbertina I knew there had to be one of you out there!! smile

Alconleigh Sun 28-Jul-13 17:29:15

Yes he is, but the stories have been on Popbitch for absolutely years, and obv their word is gospel grin

Treagues Sun 28-Jul-13 17:31:54

Fassbender has mean features and looks soulless.
(Possibly have been influenced by watching Shame.)

LadyBryan Sun 28-Jul-13 17:33:01

I never fancy all the people who one is "supposed" to fancy. I never have really.

But I'm pleased to say that the guy I fancy is far, FAR more embarrassing than any yet shared on this thread. Is there a smug face??

Or maybe crown for, shall we say eccentric, taste in men

Ezio Sun 28-Jul-13 17:35:14

I swear i will fight anyone for Jason Isaacs, i really mean it grin

cushtie335 Sun 28-Jul-13 17:35:40

The crown isn't a clue is it? Please don't say Princes Charles, or worse, Prince Andrew (boak, retch). Come on LadyBryan, you have to tell us now.

Ezio Sun 28-Jul-13 17:37:09

Cushtie, i must confess a crush on Prince Andrew about 14 years ago.

Im over it now.

LadyBryan Sun 28-Jul-13 17:40:08

Lol no it most certainly isn't a royal.

Cough Daniel Barenboim Cough

He turns my insides to mush

cushtie335 Sun 28-Jul-13 17:40:21

Praise the Lord for that Ezio. So glad you have recovered from this temporary insanity smile

cushtie335 Sun 28-Jul-13 17:42:11

LadyBryan you win the weird crush prize by a country mile. I had to google him as I didn't recognise the name, but the face seems familiar. That really is an ahem, eclectic choice.

Ezio Sun 28-Jul-13 17:45:47

Cushtie, i was 16 at the time and had daddy issues, thats my excuse and im sticking with it.

OrlaNuttin Sun 28-Jul-13 17:47:34

Prince Andrew - I now officially do not want my tea!

Benedict Cumberbatch, so charismatic, I absolutely would.
Also, Nathan Fillion ( and separately, Captain Malcolm Reynolds).
Can't bear Brad Pitt, he's a terrible actor, so self-righteous and looks like a tramp. Punching above his weight with Angelina imo.
George Clooney - well, maybe, but only in the ER days.

Another vote for Hugh Jackman here. Google Hugh Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris duet - it's very funny. Actually, let's add NPH to the list (in my dreams I'm sure he could be turned!)
I also think Colin Morgan is very very beautiful, though he's almost uncomfortably young for me to be thinking that about!

squoosh Sun 28-Jul-13 17:48:19

Ezio how can you go from Prince Andrew (!!) to Jason Isaacs?

I don't want to be unkind but I'm revoking your right to fancy Jason Isaacs, I don't want to have his sexiness tainted by association with the Worst Royal of all.

Shame on you!

Ezio Sun 28-Jul-13 17:49:49

Squoosh, i grew up i swear, i've had a decade long crush on Jason, you wont stop me now.

SassySpice Sun 28-Jul-13 18:01:34

Another vote for The Fassbender,
Josh Holloway (Lost)
Mark Ruffalo in anything
Viggo Mortensen (as Aragorn, Lord of the Rings)
Cam Gigandet (as James in Twilight)

squoosh Sun 28-Jul-13 18:03:37

Ok Ezio I'll allow you to continue in that case, I've only liked Isaacs since he's been in that detective programme.

racmun Sun 28-Jul-13 18:10:18

I agree I don't see the attraction in GC or BP and never have. I also don't get the swooning over Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom.

For me it's Daniel Craig and my absolute favourite is Mark Wright from Towie he is just absolutely gorgeous. Lucky Michelle Keegan!!!!!

motherinferior Sun 28-Jul-13 18:14:12

OK, as I'm being nice (and have had a glass of wine) you can have Klepto Alan and I'll keep the divinely filthy-mouthed (fnar) Capaldi. Deal?

TallulahBetty Sun 28-Jul-13 18:19:06

Danny Dyer. I actually thought i'd got the wrong name when i googled to see what the fuss was all about.

emmaliz Sun 28-Jul-13 18:19:17

I don't get why everyone seems to fancy Ryan Gosling

Still18atheart Sun 28-Jul-13 18:37:33

John Travolta - He was HOT in Grease and Saturday Night Fever but went down hill from the mid 80s imo

YouMakeMeWannaLaLa Sun 28-Jul-13 19:32:43

Patrick Swayze, Keanu, Leonardo, Pitt, Gere, Travolta...don't get any of them...and dyu know what they all have in common? Tiny eyes. Like two raisins pushed in dough.

Never got Mel Gibson or Depp either but Dr. Doug Ross featured in a few of my early teenage daydreams and Costner as Robin Hood often had cameos.

My ultimate love is Joaquin Phoenix. We had a bit of a rough period a couple of years ago with the beard and the hiphop but we pulled through and are stronger than evet grin

GameSetAndMatch Sun 28-Jul-13 19:36:39

ooh, most of the guys in Merlin, YY.

and Jon Richardson and Rhod Gilbert make me go all squooshy inside too!

something about Peter Capaldi too. and Arthur Darvill!

-goes off to take a cold shower-.

deleted203 Sun 28-Jul-13 19:42:02

I'm a heterosexual woman in her 40s - and I don't fancy either of these two. I never went for the pretty boys, I'm afraid. Clooney is way to smooth for my tastes.

(I like a bit of rough)

GameSetAndMatch Sun 28-Jul-13 19:47:40

in the 70s/80s, my teen years, i never liked the 'normal' crushes-

David Essex/bryan Ferry (greasy)/John Travolta and the like.
everyone liked Han Solo but i was Lukes girl!everyone liked hutch, I liked Starsky.

everyone liked Bodie-I liked Doyle and HE gets better with age too.

the brat pack? maybe Robert Downey jr a BIT but i did like Christian Slater. hes still got it.

and didnt like Kevin Bacon at the time but hes aged well.

nor have i ever liked Gere/Keanu (looks like my exH)/looney/shitt/cruise. ew.

LessMissAbs Sun 28-Jul-13 19:56:37

I prefer men who look a similar age to me. Brad Pitt and George Clooney have not aged well and look too old for me, although Brad when younger was very nice. He seems stupid, but nice. George Clooney always seemed a bit greasy and creepy to me, even when younger.

Vin Diesel good looking but might be a "difficult man". Ditto Jean Claude van Damme, who is strangely growing on me though he is really old. Matt Damon too, looks young for his age.

I just can't "do" crinkly men. I was once propositioned, and very nicely too, when single, by a very famous former Olympic sportsman who was my childhood hero. He still wasn't bad looking, but I just couldn't go there, because he was old enough to be my father.

LessMissAbs Sun 28-Jul-13 20:01:11

Ezio Cushtie, i must confess a crush on Prince Andrew about 14 years ago

At last! Someone else! He was good looking a few years ago, very pleasant looking man not sure about the character

emmaliz I don't get why everyone seems to fancy Ryan Gosling

Me neither. Now, I quite like a slightly feminine looking man (Michael J Fox?), but he just looks thin lipped and mean.

Solari Sun 28-Jul-13 20:09:08

Probably a cliché of 'before your time' <sob> , but Tom Selleck - with all his moustache-y goodness!

zenoushka Sun 28-Jul-13 20:09:09

Jason Isaacs - oh my!!!

Michael Fassbender - definitely would.

John Simm -yes please. I actually saw him in my local Sainsbury's in North London a few months ago. I nearly dropped the pint of milk I was carrying. He was gorgeous.

zenoushka Sun 28-Jul-13 20:13:37

Oh and not forgetting Ralph Fiennes either - swoon....

squoosh Sun 28-Jul-13 20:28:56

I said Ralph Fiennes ages ago. Shove off!

dubstarr73 Sun 28-Jul-13 20:48:12

Simon Pegg and Richard from Pointless. And Joseph Fiennes.Im gonna be here all night, dreaming and wishful thinking

Ezio Sun 28-Jul-13 20:48:29

LessMiss he was alright back then, hes aged really badly.

Punkatheart Mon 29-Jul-13 08:24:07

dubstarr you have VERY good taste. I adore Simon Pegg - he just has something....

dubstarr73 Mon 29-Jul-13 10:21:32

Why thank you Punkatheart

Embarrasingly, I adored Tom Selleck in the 80s. blush

Solari Mon 29-Jul-13 11:17:23

themaltesefalcon I'm glad I'm not the only one! <highfive>

freddiefrog Mon 29-Jul-13 11:23:05

I've never fancied Tom Cruise (even before he went weird)/Brad Pitt/George Clooney/Pierce Brosnan et all.

I have very weird tastes and like my crushes a bit dirty and rough looking - Slash from GnR, Jimmy Naill blush

Although Brad Pitt now he's older and doesn't look like he's washed for a while is growing on me, and Tom Cruise in Rock of Ages was a bit of a shocker

dubstarr73 Mon 29-Jul-13 11:47:38

Calvin Harris blush is really growing on me

ZingWidge Mon 29-Jul-13 11:56:19

those two are gorgeous (although Brad could do with a skin transplant for his pockmarks)

If I had a "5 slebs you can kiss" list (I would not go further) two of them on that list would be Gabriel Mann and Gabriel Macht. for sure.

LadyClariceCannockMonty Mon 29-Jul-13 12:08:56

Clooney is quite nice to look at but that's as much enthusiasm as I can muster.

Pitt: nah.

Depp: just looks like a tramp these days. A tramp in drag.

I think Fassbender's probably a bit thick.

Simm has a ferrety face and is a bit little – weird small hands etc. [irrational]

Gosling's eyes are too close together.

Don't fancy Michael Sheen but think he'd be a right laugh.

Paul Bettany is MINE. The most beautiful man.

I'd have Peter Capaldi but only as Malcolm Tucker.

Eddie Izzard is hawt as well.

Cumberbatch can come up and see me some time too, but with his natural gingery, tousled hair not the stupid little Sherlock ringlets.

AmIthatHot Mon 29-Jul-13 20:02:34

Oh thanks, three more I like

Calvin Lovely Harris - gorgeous and has a weird taste in photos. And makes good looking omelettes

Richard Osman, but probably more as a drinking buddy. Think he would be like a big puppy dog

And oh yes please to Gabriel Mann. I saw him the Bourne film, and he was quite difficult to spot. He was the cause of my Revenge habit

....I've thought of a fourth actually. Iwan Thomas. He is funny and could laugh me into bed

ZingWidge Mon 29-Jul-13 20:40:13

<waves to Amithathot>

I miss Revenge. Mondays are pointless now. sad
were you on the thread?

AmIthatHot Mon 29-Jul-13 20:48:07

Yes Zing. I was on the revenge thread. I cried over Padma. Poor Nolan

FayeKorgasm Mon 29-Jul-13 21:18:29

Has no one mentioned Eric Bana.

He is sooooo beautiful!

mynameismskane Mon 29-Jul-13 21:27:15

I don't get why people like David Beckham - I find him so so odious. He is not even good looking - go away!

mrsruffallo Mon 29-Jul-13 21:58:47

Paul Newman,- I mean, look here. I also love Mark Ruffallo (obviously)in The Kids Are Alright and You Can Count On Me.

Nerfmother Mon 29-Jul-13 22:06:10

David beckham, with all his tats and unattractiveness, looks like he should be, in another life, sat on a blue chair with jezza Kyle shrieking at him.
None of the others are gorgeous - yes to Andy Garcia and Cary grant though.

labtest Mon 29-Jul-13 22:32:17

Gilbert Blythe is my ultimate male. The highest evolution of the species. I love him. Second choice would be Smith from Sex And The City but only once he'd shaved his head. I barely noticed him with the long hair.

Punkatheart Mon 29-Jul-13 22:35:47

I am a Mr Big girl, labtest.

MissFenella Mon 29-Jul-13 22:53:21

I fancy the characters rather than the actors, I may make an exception for Jeffrey Dean Morgan or Steve McQueen, as long as they don't speak.

HarleyQuinn Mon 29-Jul-13 23:12:38

I have never fancied any of the cliched hot men, my first celeb crush was Kenneth Branagh

I adore Robert Downey jr, Karl Urban, Paul Rudd, Carlo Rota, Gary Oldman and I quite fancy Christoph Waltz as well, I do like older guys.

yerwan Mon 29-Jul-13 23:28:21

Viggo Mortenson and gulp the Hoff about twenty years ago

ZingWidge Tue 30-Jul-13 02:26:00

actually I think YADBVU OP!

if less people fancied them less would pay to see their films and then all the slebs could not live in such luxury. maybe they would have to sell their 54th car!
or buy fewer diamonds
or downsize their homes
and that would be just cruel!
after all having only one poxy outdoor pool is just laughable!

everlong Tue 30-Jul-13 03:53:31

Shame on you!

Nobody mentioned the beautiful one - Dave Grohl! Beats that Clooney one by a trillion miles.

runawaysimba Tue 30-Jul-13 04:44:14

DP and I both have massive crushes on Joel Kinnaman from (the American version of) The Killing. He is delicious. What DP doesn't know us that I watch YouTube videos of Kinnaman giving interviews in Swedish (he grew up there).
Related: Bradley Cooper giving interviews in French.
Zut alors. And whatever the Swedish equivalent is.

ever I've been thinking Dave grohl ll through this thread. Yum! The beard, the grunge, the gravelly voice <sigh>

everlong Tue 30-Jul-13 05:06:37

Thank god! Someone with taste grin

jamdonut Tue 30-Jul-13 08:41:03

ZingWidge Tue 30-Jul-13 10:02:35

Fey56 Mon 29-Sep-14 20:53:42

I'd have to join the Hugh Jackman appreciation group - but may I add Jeff Goldblum ooh & Jeremy Northam .. Like Alan Rickman, such a lovely voice

Fey56 Mon 29-Sep-14 20:53:43

I'd have to join the Hugh Jackman appreciation group - but may I add Jeff Goldblum ooh & Jeremy Northam .. Like Alan Rickman, such a lovely voice

ithoughtofitfirst Mon 29-Sep-14 20:59:03

Did someone say Muse boys? I married dh because he looks like chris wolstenholme. He's got 6 kids. PHWOAR.

LiviaDruscillaAugusta Mon 29-Sep-14 21:01:03

I have never fancied Brad Pitt, George Clooney. Tom Cruise et al either. My longest crush is Sam Neill and I nearly fainted when he followed me on Twitter blush

My main two at the moment are Kevin Spacey and Peter Capaldi!

Fey56 Mon 29-Sep-14 21:05:14

Clooney & Pitt, well, they always seem so smug & self absorbed

Fey56 Mon 29-Sep-14 21:07:57

Sam Niell oh yes ... and he followed you on twitter ? There must be a story there?!

areyoubeingserviced Mon 29-Sep-14 21:13:18

Have never understood the obsession with
George Clooney- average looking bloke
Brad Pitt- average looking bloke
David Beckam- doesn't do it for me
Tom Cruise- nope

Give me the
Young Oliver Reed-
Young Sidney Poitier

LiviaDruscillaAugusta Mon 29-Sep-14 21:23:10

Fey Sadly not - I followed him and he followed me back. Unfortunately I have to spend most of my time on Twitter resisting the urge to send him a direct message pledging my love for him blushgrin

KissMyFatArse Mon 29-Sep-14 21:29:10

Andy Garcia - good shout!

KissMyFatArse Mon 29-Sep-14 21:30:07

Oh and Gabriel Byrne mmmm

Rainbunny Mon 29-Sep-14 21:49:50

Brad Pitt - utterly boring. GC - Hell no. He is good looking but you can sense the size of his ego a mile off. Not to mention his habit of dating much younger women who tend to be less powerful and lesser educated (not a slur against them, but he clearly doesn't like to date someone equal to him in age, experience or his perceived own intelligence). I honestly think he will have to make some fundamental changes to his attitude to make his marriage to AA work. It's all excitement, glamour and infatuation now but I wonder in the long run.

Dolly80 Mon 29-Sep-14 21:58:15

Brad Pitt, George Clooney nor David Beckham have ever floated my boat.

Give me Dave Grohl, Ewan McGregor or David Tenant any day.

Seems I'm not one for a conventional 'pretty boy' although for Dan Carter of the New Zealand rugby team I'd make a rare exception wink

Aaargh! I hate when we're supposed and presumed to find certain 'stars' attractive. They're usually no better than the line up at my local pub.
I much prefer the characterful and quirky. Joaquin Phoenix is my long term 'famous person' crush, though I admit to finding the sweary Peter Capaldi quite acceptable.

For those of you who mentioned Michael Sheen earlier, I have met him and can attest that he is a super lovely man, not at all 'big time' or up himself. Come to think of it, perhaps I quite fancy him too.

LuckyLuckyMe Mon 29-Sep-14 22:07:37

GC eww
TC odd
BP needs a scrub
BC yum
Michael Fassbender yum
Henry Cavil yuuuuum

crazylady321 Mon 29-Sep-14 23:32:30

Not into any of the guys mentioned. Ive always had a bit of a thing for Bruce Willis in his younger days.

Jason Statham is the man I drool over smile

Darkesteyes Tue 30-Sep-14 00:55:30

Ive got a thing for slightly overweight redheaded men. My ex OM was like this. Closest thing to ex OM is actor Chris Larkin.

I like Samuel West because he seems like a nice guy.

But Clooney Pitt Cruise etc just leave me cold.

RonaldMcDonald Tue 30-Sep-14 01:04:23

I now like Matt le Blanc...far fitter now
Clinton...yy still
Mark Foster
Colin Farrell
Idris Elba
Ashley Banjo

GC and BP especially BP seems preposterous

superstarheartbreaker Tue 30-Sep-14 06:59:08

Matt Damon and Bradley Cooper are yum as is Mathew Mccobaughy or whatever his name is.

TheLovelyBoots Tue 30-Sep-14 07:05:14

I have never understood the Brad Pitt thing either. He does just look filthy. He seems like a nice guy, I'm sure he'd be a good addition to a dinner party (after he took a shower).

George Clooney is so ridiculously handsome. I know it's cliche.

poolomoomon Tue 30-Sep-14 07:16:08

Never understood the Brad Pitt thing either, or George Clooney for that matter. Johnny Depp is average, I can sort of see the appeal but don't think he's anything special. NEVER understood the Beckham thing, he's average looking and his voice drives me to distraction. Don't find any male models attractive, Channing Tatum isn't nice, Tom Cruise= boak.

I like John Cusack, Alan Rickman but I think his voice gives him the edge rather than his face so he'd have to talk throughout a sex session to remain attractive grin, oh Al Pacino... Particularly in the godfather and his much earlier movies too. Jason Statham is alright but I can't abide his false 'American' accent he insists on putting on in his movies nowadays, I don't get it! It's bloody terrible. Daniel Craig was more attractive in the girl with the dragon tattoo than in Bond, the fact he's Bond kind of puts me off him because Bond as a character is such a dick.

I like Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. I get excited for Christmas for many reasons but one of the major ones is the fact I get to watch Holiday Inn grin.

poolomoomon Tue 30-Sep-14 07:40:15

I forgot Colin Firth. Only like him in Bridget Jones though, the Mr Darcy thing doesn't do it for me. He's a bit of a wet lettuce but I quite like that. Hugh Grant is awful.

WyrdByrd Tue 30-Sep-14 09:25:29

YANBU. I've never been remotely interested in the typical Hollywood types (although tbf I wouldn't kick Hugh Jackman or Taylor Lautner out of bed).

Richard Armitage has been my #1 man for several years (and incidentally is even more gorgeous in RL than he is on screen grin ).

Lots of the comedians already mentioned - Greg Davies, Rhod Gilbert & Jon Richardson.

Richard Osman...saw him on Sarah Millican last week - he has a fine line in double entendre which made me think he'd be absolute filth!

I like my redheads Damien Lewis in Homeland S1, Ed Sheeran & Rupert Grint blush .

Older men - Harrison Ford & Pierce Brosnan.

Frequently get the piss taken out of me at work since I confessed to having had crushes in my twenties on Rowan Atkinson, Martin Clunes & Ben Elton outs self completely.

Figster Tue 30-Sep-14 09:28:04

Nope my long standing crushes are "unconventional" rik mayall Jeff goldblum Ricky gervais blush

Bambambini Tue 30-Sep-14 09:28:35

Oh I don't know, they've had their moments. I'll take BP in Mr and Mrs Smith and George C in Three Kings and Out Of Sight.

Bambambini Tue 30-Sep-14 09:31:41

Ooh just seen Jeff Goldblum mentioned. Yes please, was hot to trot in The Fly (until he started picking bits of his body off) and Mr Frost. Liked kim in Independence Day too - sexy geek mode.

Stinkle Tue 30-Sep-14 09:36:35

I've never fancied George Clooney/Brad Pitt/Tom Cruise etc either. I like men a bit dirtier

However, I will admit to a dirty, stinking crush on Tom Cruise after watching Rock of Ages. I've never liked him in Top Gun/ Cocktail, too smooth, but dear god, with a pair of leather trousers and a set of hair extensions and he is fiii-iiiinnnneeee!

Slash from Guns and Roses is my one, true love though

Idontseeanysontarans Tue 30-Sep-14 09:37:21

Fore they have to be funny and/or nice to be attractive.
I always found Dan Ackroyd very attractive in his younger days - especially ghostbusters and Blues Brothers grin

MyFairyKing Tue 30-Sep-14 09:37:59

George is nice but a little old for me. wink I never got the Brad Pitt love, he's not ugly or anything, just an average looking bloke.

I used to have a big crush on Johnny Depp but it's waned a lot.

code Tue 30-Sep-14 10:52:10

They all leave me cold too <I bet they are devastated>. I have funny taste in men and like a confident, overweight funny guy. Had big crushes on John Goodman, Dan Ackroyd, Robbie Coltrane.

ebwy Tue 30-Sep-14 10:56:11

I never thought much of any of them... except for Tom Cruise but only as Lestat in Interview With The Vampire.

So apparently he's more attractive dead :-\

showtunesgirl Tue 30-Sep-14 11:18:43

What about Evan Dando? wink

gordyslovesheep Tue 30-Sep-14 11:23:40

Michael Palin 36 years I have loved that man!

kerstina Tue 30-Sep-14 12:02:13

YADNBU! Fed up of being constantly told how beautiful these men are. David Beckham is another one who's charms are lost on me. Good job we all have different types really I suppose. I think James Blunt has got'' it'' and I do find Tom Cruise attractive.

TheLovelyBoots Tue 30-Sep-14 12:06:44

James Blunt? Really?

ScrambledeggLDCcakeBOAK Tue 30-Sep-14 12:10:04

I have never fancied any of the so called "hunks"

I will admit to having a slight massive crush on slash (guns n roses) and skin (skunk anansie) and still do

kerstina Tue 30-Sep-14 12:10:08

I don't think I am his only fan wink

cherrybombxo Tue 30-Sep-14 12:10:47

I have really weird taste in men. I adore Ed Sheeran, Stephen Merchant and Russell Howard. I think it's the funny, dorky thing that they have going on.

Also Alec Baldwin. But only now, not when he was young confused I'm 24, so kind of out of my age bracket now!

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine Tue 30-Sep-14 12:32:37

No don't do it for me.

It's just delicious David Beckham

Rainbunny Tue 30-Sep-14 13:07:24

poolo - I quite like Colin Firth too these days. He was great in "A Single Man" and "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy". He looks good in the trailer for "Before I Sleep" too. He's grown on me with age.

Bambambini Tue 30-Sep-14 13:56:36

Had a huge crush on Mel Gibson when younger, round his Mad Max, YOLD days. Michael Biehn is another fine man - gorgeous. These days Michael Fassbender is rather taking my fancy.

stoopstoconker Tue 30-Sep-14 14:08:26

Gregory Peck for me. I was born at the wrong time.

HerVagesty Tue 30-Sep-14 14:54:15

Am I the only one who has a thing for Nicolas Cage? I loved him in Con Air and have been a bit hooked ever since.

And John Cusak. Definitely John Cusak

HerVagesty Tue 30-Sep-14 14:54:58

Oh and also, City of Angels - I cry every time!

FriendlyLadybird Tue 30-Sep-14 15:43:16

No one's mentioned Liam Neeson. Good: he's mine. And whoever it was who said Damien Lewis -- you've already got quite a long list there so I think you can cede him to me.

honeyh365 Tue 30-Sep-14 19:34:28

Never got the whole George Clooney thing and only liked Brad Pitt in Interview with the Vampire before he became a vampire. Was sure I would grow up and marry Morten Halket from A-ha then had a big thing for Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing, Keanu Reeves, Tom Cruise, Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn in Lord of the Rings .....phwoarr! Pierce Brosnan,Brandon Boyd from Incubus in the Morning View days, Cary Grant and nowadays it's the lead singer from Lawson, Ashton Kutcher, Jessie Pavelka, Stephen Ammel, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Steven R McQueen, Ryan Kwanten, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Thom Evans that can bring on a a bit of a pre-menopausal hot flush. Dear Santa any of these will do....x

merlincat Tue 30-Sep-14 20:29:53

Jonsi from Sigur Ros. He's my beautiful Indie angel, gay or not.

John 5 is my sleb crush, not interested in movie stars in the slightest

YoYoYooooo Tue 30-Sep-14 21:24:52

I find Clooney, Pitt, Tom cruise , beckham , gere etc all unattractive

My secret crush is Zac Effron but I think he might be a pillock in real life. sad

leapfrog77 Tue 30-Sep-14 21:28:23

I think brad pitt looks like how i would imagine a German porn star to look

OracleOfDelphinium Tue 30-Sep-14 21:28:36

I find them all quite repulsive. I would do Michael Portillo, though.

smokeandfluff Tue 30-Sep-14 21:30:32

Not a Clooney or pitt fan, spent most of troy wishing they gave more screen time to the lovely sean bean.

Another vote for michael fassbender and hugh jackman, beautiful beautiful men.

Hugh Grant when he's being mean in bridget jones diary.

And since nobody's Johnny lee miller, I'll have him

YoYoYooooo Tue 30-Sep-14 21:38:29

I don't like the way so many of the big name hunks seem to really fancy themselves and take themselves so seriously. I don't suppose it's a surprise but they look like they spend way too much time on their looks. I just don't find that an attractive trait (in men or women) the sparkly white fake looking teeth are particularly unattractive.

Even when they work out they end up with stereotypical 'hunky' bodies that do nothing for me. Give me a naturally fit farmer/bin man type body anyday.

I'm sure if a normal blokey builder turned up with the face of one of these guys I'd be beside myself.

MiuChoos Tue 30-Sep-14 21:58:04

I've never seen the attraction with George Clooney, either. Just - meh.
Same with Daniel Craig coming out of the sea in just his trunks. No thanks,

Alan Rickman or Sean Bean on the other hand.... sigh smile

auldspinster Tue 30-Sep-14 23:45:02

I'm with you on this OP. Can I add all boy bands in history ever to the list of terminally unfanciable men we are meant to go girly for? 90's indie bands or leather clad goths however totally do it for me.

Used to go gaga over Brad Pitt years ago, Now I agree with the poster that said he looks like he hasn't washed in ages!!

Rob Lowe is still my heartthrob!!

Second Gregory Peck and how's this for old: Joseph Cotton! (Love 40's movies!)

I don't think Brad Pitt was especially handsome when he was younger and the idol of many but he's definitely improved with age IMO. Always thought GC was devilishly handsome - can't wait to see what the children he and his lovely wife produce will look like. Lucky buggers! smile

I don't like pretty boys or suave men. When I was a teenager I did fancy Tom Cruise (especially in Taps when he was psychotic) until I found out that he was about 5' tall. I like big guys, preferably moody and with issues, they need to have dark hair and dark eyes and really they need a good shaggy beard. In gay terms, classic bears.

Like Kris Kristopherson in the 70s. I really liked Aragorn too, but not Viggo Mortensen - and they'd both need to be a good six inches taller in real life - why are actors so bloody short!

In the 90s dh and I enjoyed watching pro-wresting, and some of those guys really did float my boat (physically, I suspect they were roided up prats in real life). Kevin Nash from the Outsiders was 6'7" of beardy beefcake to me grin
