To want to maim the next person who starts a conversation about the fucking royals?

It's driving me up the wall

BenedictCumberbitch Thu 25-Jul-13 16:19:44

I agree...but does that mean you need to be maimed for starting this thread? grin

SoupDragon Thu 25-Jul-13 16:19:54

Best you maim herself then I guess. What with starting a thread basically about the Royals.

SoupDragon Thu 25-Jul-13 16:20:08

Yourself.
Not herself.

BenedictCumberbitch Thu 25-Jul-13 16:21:45

Unless you're talking about the cigarette brand? <hopeful> wink

cheerfulweather Thu 25-Jul-13 16:22:10

I've lost count of the number I've hidden (was just about to hide yours, as just spotted offending word, royals).

filee777 Thu 25-Jul-13 16:22:31

This thread is not technically about 'them' though is it, it's about royalists and their inability to shut the fuck up.

HollyBerryBush Thu 25-Jul-13 16:23:12

Who made you the MN police with what may and may not be discussed?

BenedictCumberbitch Thu 25-Jul-13 16:23:37

Join the Republican thread!!

It's a calm oasis in a world of batshit crazy grin

MalcolmTuckersMum Thu 25-Jul-13 16:24:33

Most of the threads I've seen have been from the anti camp who funnily enough cannot seem to shut up - seems they have plumbed every depth looking for an opportunity to whine about something! This thread Q E D.

KellyElly Thu 25-Jul-13 16:24:52

And benefits threads, they are being done to death at the moment!

Twirlyhot Thu 25-Jul-13 16:24:58

Nope, sorry, lots of the threads are started by republicans who won't shut up.

I would like a blanket ban. Or a section for them. Or maybe they should be split to avoid bunfights?

Royalists >
< Republicans

PearlyWhites Thu 25-Jul-13 16:25:58

I remember they scratched my throat as a teenager but it was work it for the extra five in a pack grin

MalcolmTuckersMum Thu 25-Jul-13 16:26:13

And YY to Holly. OP if you don't like a thread there is a very useful function that allows you to hide it. Try it sometime - although that would make it very difficult for you to bitch about subjects posted because they'd be hidden and not troubling you.

filee777 Thu 25-Jul-13 16:26:47

hunts for republican thread

BenedictCumberbitch Thu 25-Jul-13 16:26:48

I might start a 'indifferent to the royal rugrat' thread...

BenedictCumberbitch Thu 25-Jul-13 16:27:45

Aww, go on, how could you look at those beautiful pictures of our beloved heir to the throne, with his wife and Soooo beautiful new baby and not go Awwww! wink
Tbh, I think both sides are overdoing it big time.

filee777 Thu 25-Jul-13 16:27:57

Some Union Jack emblazoned knickers in a right twist now aren't there ladies...

MalcolmTuckersMum Thu 25-Jul-13 16:29:44

Don't be snidey OP - no need for it. Your original complaint has been answered. An opposite view has been given. What about that makes it ok for you to sneer and hiss about twisted knickers?

You can do what you like to the next person who starts a thread about the Royals, OP, providing that I can do the same to the next person who starts one about dogs!
Oh yes, that's right, that's why we put titles on our threads so we can vet the ones we are interested in, and ignore those that we aren't confused. Admittedly, there are some people who are deliberately ambiguous in their thread titles to suck you in, but you can normally find your way back out again with a bit of willpower grin

filee777 Thu 25-Jul-13 17:23:04

Well people seem to be taking this thread a whole lot more seriously than intended!

Backing slowly away...

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit Thu 25-Jul-13 17:26:28

You could, I dunno, not fucking read threads about the royals and save your knicker bunching for something else.

OK OP, I'll admit that royalty threads are a bit overbearing right now wink, whether in favour of or against. But then it makes a change from lots of other topics that have been done to death, threads about threads about threads and so on.

SassySpice Thu 25-Jul-13 17:32:05

YANBU grin

usualsuspect Thu 25-Jul-13 17:34:38

Yanbu.

But I've hidden all the gushy fawning threads.

My mnetting is a lot calmer.

usualsuspect Thu 25-Jul-13 17:35:30

My god, those royalists are a nasty bunch.

usualsuspect Thu 25-Jul-13 17:36:49

Just look at the answers from them on this thread.

It's certainly opened my eyes.

filee777 Thu 25-Jul-13 17:41:58

It's not that I don't (sort of) get the significance of the baby but its the threads about clothes and nannies and security and diet plans and the endless endless shite

Which are beginning to wear me thin...

Sorry if that massively offends anyone, royal lover or no.

usualsuspect Thu 25-Jul-13 17:44:11

Come on the republicans thread, we only get the occasional royalist coming on to call us terrorists and miserable fuckers.

Otherwise you are quite safe on there.

filee777 Thu 25-Jul-13 17:45:24

P.s I don't actually read any of those threads, the mere scrolling reality that they exist is enough, quite enough.

usualsuspect Thu 25-Jul-13 17:46:32

I've hidden at least 20 threads over the last few days.

filee777 Thu 25-Jul-13 17:48:44

I don't know how to 'hide' would it mean clicking on the thread? That would create a conundrum for me...

usualsuspect Thu 25-Jul-13 17:50:21

No you can hide from active convos.

Go into customise and change your settings

noddyholder Thu 25-Jul-13 17:50:32

Yes hide them! The fawning and endless wittering about them is nauseating

Viviennemary Thu 25-Jul-13 17:51:42

To be fair there aren't usually a lot of threads on royals on MN. So I don't expect it will last very long. Like the threads on the hot weather. Soon be gone!

No, just go to Customise, scroll down to "Other Options" and make sure that "Put 'hide' link on Active Conversations?" is set to "Yes", then click on "SAVE". Then when you see threads in Active Conversations there will also be a little "Hide" link to the right of each one -- click on that and the thread will be hidden from your view.

filee777 Thu 25-Jul-13 17:54:04

Thanks I'll pop into settings

It will be a massive relief if it all ends soon, so much fuss for really a very normal event, being a child being born.

Soon there will be First Official Portrait, then Christening, then First Press Photo Session, and then Prince George's First Christmas.

sue52 Thu 25-Jul-13 17:57:10

The republicans are rather lovely.

WineNot Thu 25-Jul-13 18:17:12

4 'anti' royal threads on the 'most recent' page on my last refresh.

No 'pro' threads.

Just sayin'

crown
wink

filee777 Thu 25-Jul-13 18:22:08

I haven't said anything about being more/less annoyed by 'pro' or 'anti' I find it all annoying.

kim147 Thu 25-Jul-13 18:25:32

Just maybe with all the crap, attacks, cuts and the general awfulness of this current economic situation, the adoration of the Royal Family kind of grates for some.

It's quite a controversial institution for some people but judging by the media, you wouldn't think so.

So we Republicans need to vent somewhere. MNs as good a place as any.

WineNot Thu 25-Jul-13 18:25:56

Didn't say you had... And I agree with you.

Was just talking relative volumes.

WineNot Thu 25-Jul-13 18:26:23

That was at filee777

WineNot Thu 25-Jul-13 18:28:24

That's my point Kim

I think this 'adoration' is being somewhat overstated.

Very few threads being started worshipping the Royals.

filee777 Thu 25-Jul-13 18:31:50

To be fair, its not just on here, there are plenty of awful poncy facebook 'shares' and status' about the royals. It just reminds me that they exist and I'm bored of it.

kim147 Thu 25-Jul-13 18:33:11

Apart from those where you have baby watch, name the baby, baby's born, baby's coming out of the hospital, they've named the baby, love the name and how dare people criticise the baby threads?

WineNot Thu 25-Jul-13 18:37:36

Funny isn't it... I've had about 5 friends comment on FB when the sex was announced and another 4 comment one the name and I think I have about 500 FB friends.... About a 1% run rate.

The media fair enough. They've gone crazy. But come on, that's the media FFS! It's what they do. But no one I know in RL 'adores' the Royal Family.

And the 'criticise the baby' thread wasn't exactly about him being Royal, was it? Some people took exception to a 'joke' about a baby.

olidusUrsus Thu 25-Jul-13 18:39:35

I'm actually starting to crave a wedding/parking/MIL thread.

WineNot Thu 25-Jul-13 18:40:57

grin olidusUrsus

LadyBryan Thu 25-Jul-13 18:47:12

YANBU to not be interested.

YABU unreasonable to expect other people to not want to talk about what interests them.

I can only assume the "royalists are a nasty bunch" was a tongue in cheek comment and not a massive generalisation

Fillyjonk75 Thu 25-Jul-13 19:05:26

A lot of people talk about things I'm not interested in or hate. I just change the subject asap or walk away. People have different interests and views, it doesn't make you a superior person if you are anti-Royal. What has annoyed me is how angry some people have got about others celebrating the birth, "Why should we care about it...blah blah?" Getting angry rather suggests you do care.

I think very carefully about most issues and sometimes side with a majority view and sometimes a minority one. It doesn't make me a sheep to agree with the majority view on something.

Some people are so automatically cynical and pessimistic and constantly having to prove (to themselves mainly) that they are alternative, non-conformist etc. Which can actually be pretty dull and draining for others.

ToysRLuv Thu 25-Jul-13 19:27:02

Is it really that alternative and cynical to want real democracy and equality? It's so boring and dull.. rrright. Gotcha. Sorry!
