to think it's ok to wear skirts and dresses

Even though I haven't got the world's best legs which aren't perfectly smooth or beautiful?

Just checking because all the adverts seem to tell me that I need beautiful legs to make it a skirt day.

Twirlyhot Wed 17-Jul-13 20:36:06

I rarely wear either.

If that's the case I had best keep my short scarred ones covered up grin

If we are listening to adverts then we also need to only shave when our legs are hairless grin

Wear skirts/dresses happily and confidently, and if anyone judges you send 'em round to me and I will deal with them fuck them!

KittensoftPuppydog Wed 17-Jul-13 20:39:11

Tbh I think a lot of it has to do with how old you are and how much you show. Young legs look lovely even when not perfect. I do not think that anyone over 45 should show more than the knee. No matter how much they work out. Looks a bit desperate.

Turniptwirl Wed 17-Jul-13 20:40:22

This is the first year I've worn shorts since I was 21 and I don't care it's too bloody hot for anything else! I'm fat regardless of what I wear so why not be slightly comfortable?

WorraLiberty Wed 17-Jul-13 20:42:09

If well listened to what the adverts told us, we'd never leave the house.

YABU but I think you know that

WorraLiberty Wed 17-Jul-13 20:42:26

*we

kitten - ah well, at least I've got a couple of years left wink
Actually, I live in jeans and long skirts because I hate my legs, but this weekend I gave in and wore shorts! Long ones, but still SHORTS! Unheard of, when not on a beach. Short skirts on old, overweight women are just "not a good look" in my opinion.

I'm 43 and a size 12. My legs are not monstrous, but they are certainly not the legs of Naomi Campbell, for example. However, I went to the shop in super-short shorts the other day and nobody pointed and laughed, and no small children or animals ran away in terror.

Wear a skirt fgs. It's HOT!

Desperate for what, Kittensoft? hmm

trinity0097 Wed 17-Jul-13 20:45:58

I am wearing a nice knee length monsoon skirt today, no tights or anything like that, and I am a size 20, so go for it I say, no-one is perfect, I am who I am and I just want to be comfy!

MrsCampbellBlack Wed 17-Jul-13 20:46:20

Its hot. Wear what keeps you cool.

kim147 Wed 17-Jul-13 20:53:18

I love wearing them - not sure how desperate I am though (refer to I need a shag thread)

It's just all those adverts grin

maddening Wed 17-Jul-13 20:55:12

I am size 18 and 5ft 8 - I don't wear trousers or leggings - skirts and dresses all the way for me - preferably knee length with heels

WafflyVersatile Wed 17-Jul-13 20:55:57

According to the adverts you can only be slim and beautiful to wear any clothes or go naked, drive a car, push a hoover round, own a dog, have children, be short-sighted, touch a man, use tampons etc.

VitoCorleone Wed 17-Jul-13 20:56:44

I dont even look at peoples legs when they wear a skirt or shorts

EBearhug Wed 17-Jul-13 20:57:10

Absolutely, especially in the this weather.

I have been, even with the infected mossie bite above my ankle which is turning the skin interesting colours, but is definitely not looking beautiful.

SaucyJack Wed 17-Jul-13 20:58:57

Fine at home.

Depends at work tho.

My GP was wearing a too short dress the other day. Legs like a rugby player. It didn't look flattering or professional.

WafflyVersatile Wed 17-Jul-13 20:59:25

I do and I notice if their legs are long or short, fat or thin, tanned or white or blotchy, smooth or stubbly or hairy, etc.

[shrug]

specialsubject Wed 17-Jul-13 21:01:07

skirts and belts are not synonymous. There's a skirt to suit most shapes - and some skirts that look awful on everyone.

TiggyD Wed 17-Jul-13 21:03:01

I'm in shorts and I have less than perfect legs. It's too hot to wear trousers.

kim147 Wed 17-Jul-13 21:04:51

Love that sketch grin

hipposbelongoutside Wed 17-Jul-13 21:04:57

hell i am over 40 and wear short dresses even with old corned beef colour legs

desperate for what kitten? to keep cool? wink

Helpyourself Wed 17-Jul-13 21:05:32

I've just changed into shorts thanks to this thread. Wouldn't wear them to work, although I wear knee length skirts and bare legs.

MrsDeVere Wed 17-Jul-13 21:05:54

I am 46 and will wear what the fuck I like.
Ta very much

GrimmaTheNome Wed 17-Jul-13 21:07:03

What are you supposed to wear if not skirts, dresses or shorts in this weather? I hate 'warm weather' trousers and jeans are a no-no in this heat.

I'm mostly wearing skirts at the moment (I prefer below the knee, more comfortable), but shorts at the weekend - well, Saturday was at a sailing club where people appreciate your willingness to wade in to hold a painter more than the smoothness of your pins, and sunday was canoeing and paddling in a lake. Oh, and shorts for a some of our dog walks recently.

I'm 52 <hard stare at kitten>

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Wed 17-Jul-13 21:07:37

Fuck it, I don't care what people think. Im sorry if my legs offend people, but tough shit! Its too hot to care!

DrunkenButterfly Wed 17-Jul-13 21:07:55

YANBU I have just bought my first dress since losing lots of weight and will be flashing my short blue whiter-then-white legs (covered in bruises as well thanks to DD) tomorrow, and am well into my 40s as well smile

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Wed 17-Jul-13 21:09:10

I hope the smug people who judge end up with varicose veins and puffy ankles!

CinnamonAddict Wed 17-Jul-13 21:09:34

I wear shorts and skirts above knee, anything else would be torture (maybe maxi dress would be ok too).
My legs were very pale to start with and are not airbrush-perfect.
I don't watch TV so I don't know what they should look like grin

Go for it. We finally have a summer.

KittensoftPuppydog Wed 17-Jul-13 21:09:36

Oh honestly, don't you know?
Longer dresses are probably cooler anyway. I speak as someone approaching her mid fifties. I don't want to look muttony. Or like madonna.
Btw my legs are great.

I honestly think that most women look better in a skirt or dress (of an appropriate to them length) with bare legs, than they do in leggings or those awful baggy cropped trousers.

GrimmaTheNome Wed 17-Jul-13 21:14:12

I agree longer skirts are often cooler, but for some activities shorts are the only thing that works. Who cares what your legs look like if you're having fun?

Twit Wed 17-Jul-13 21:15:57

Ha ha I have finally at the age of 37 decided fuckit, I will wear a dress and if people can't take the sight of my legs it is their problem. Am pale and freckled all over so it's not like they're are a massive surprise. Besides I can't see them cos my norks block the view so ner.....

KittensoftPuppydog Wed 17-Jul-13 21:16:15

Last week I was on holiday and on the beach wearing bikini, shorts, etc. I wouldn't walk around town like that.
I was in a wet suit a lot of the time too...

WafflyVersatile Wed 17-Jul-13 21:16:30

Skirts seem to accentuate my big fat tummy. So I don't wear them.

hipposbelongoutside Wed 17-Jul-13 21:17:19

i dunno i wouldn't mind looking like madonna grin

KittensoftPuppydog Wed 17-Jul-13 21:19:34

Hippo, she looks gross. No one wants to see her stringy old ass surely. What would you think if a man went around in his pants at that age?

hipposbelongoutside Wed 17-Jul-13 21:44:46

i wouldn't think anything about it really

i don't think others would either. embrance your flesh kitten grin

KittensoftPuppydog Wed 17-Jul-13 21:50:00

Hmm, let me think, bono, sting, even Paul Simenon gyrating around in their y fronts. No thank you.

KittensoftPuppydog Wed 17-Jul-13 21:52:10

Having said that, I would touch the first two with yours anyway. Paul Simenon could get lucky, but he'd have to be properly dressed.

SunshineBossaNova Wed 17-Jul-13 21:56:46

I've been wearing shorts all week and I have grim legs. But fuck it, it's 30 degrees and I'm hot. Go for it!

Euphemia Wed 17-Jul-13 22:18:56

I have summer skirts I haven't worn for three years, so damn right they're coming out this summer, 46 year-old white legs with cankles or not!

Euphemia Wed 17-Jul-13 22:21:11

Do you find you stay cooler naturally, Kitten, being so shallow? Blood vessels closer to the surface, and all that.

Cheddars Wed 17-Jul-13 22:30:27

The great thing about having a heat wave in this country is that you don't have to pre-tan your legs. It's very liberating.

We're all too self-concious to do it on holiday but the Great British attitude of 'ah, fuck it' is alive and well. grin

Ham69 Wed 17-Jul-13 23:14:01

God help me, kitten. I'm a year off 45 and wouldn't think twice about wearing shorts. I must be getting soooo desperate!

SinisterBuggyMonth Wed 17-Jul-13 23:31:11

I officially have the worst legs in the world, 2 dress sizes bigger than my top half, celulite down to my ancles, bruise at the touch of a feather. This week I've bought some flloaty trousers and maxi dresses to wear to work. That is a big deal as I usually live in jeans, as they dont show the wobble. Literally I have never seen any woman with legs worse than mine and I am only bloody 37. I happily swap with a woman twice my age.

Btw I am typing this sat in my pants (only because I am on my own)

GrimmaTheNome Wed 17-Jul-13 23:39:36

Ham, but Kitten has said she does wear shorts too... so its merely a question of where is permissible. Not many women would wear them into an office I'd have thought (the tailored sort look less comfortable/practical than a lot of skirts).

ElizabethHornswoggle Thu 18-Jul-13 00:01:47

I always wear skirts. Today I wore one that ended at my knees. No tights too feckin hot and sandals.
I absolutely, definitely don't have perfectly smooth, beautiful skin.
I also couldn't care less. It keeps me cool in this stupendous heat and that's what matters! smile

brilliantwhite Thu 18-Jul-13 00:06:36

thought the post was going to say is it ok to wear a skirt or dress .. im a man.

Morloth Thu 18-Jul-13 02:12:42

What MrsDeVere said, except I am 36.

mumblechum1 Thu 18-Jul-13 02:21:32

I wear skirts or dresses nearly all the time in summer. Usually on the knee but I have a nice silk shift dress just above the knee. I'm 50, size 10 and don't care what anyone thinks.

I really hate to see people in leggings under dresses in this heat. What is the point? I don't understand.

TheCatIsUpTheDuff Thu 18-Jul-13 08:59:57

Mumblechum, I have always worn floaty dresses without leggings or tights until this year. Now I am pregnant, my thighs rub together, and it's really uncomfortable to walk far. I hate it, but I have to wear leggings if I have to do anything. (Until my ebay purchases of linen trousers and maternity shorts arrive.) I've resisted buying shorts until now because I don't think they look nice with a bump, sort of unbalanced, but in this heat,I don't give a monkey's.

Trills Thu 18-Jul-13 09:04:01

I don't think you really care about the adverts, I think you just wanted to have a "rant about silly adverts" thread grin

Wbdn28 Thu 18-Jul-13 09:07:21

Where whatever you like, OP smile

Wbdn28 Thu 18-Jul-13 09:07:37

Where???

Wear

EauRouge Thu 18-Jul-13 09:10:15

I've been wearing shorts for the last 3 weeks and I rarely find the time or energy to epilate. I'm comfy, fuck everyone else.

MrsBeep Thu 18-Jul-13 09:13:11

The adverts are frustrating and not realistic at all to most peoples lives.

I saw a lady who must have been in her late 60s or early 70s on the bus and wearing a skirt that was just above the knee. She had varicose gains and very lumpy legs, but my thought wasn't 'eurg' it was 'good for you! It's bloody hot.'

MrsBeep Thu 18-Jul-13 09:16:30

*veins

And I also felt a bit sad for myself, as I am 29 and my self esteem and confidence is so low that I find it impossible to wear short skirts...and I wouldn't even contemplate buying a pair of shorts. I really hope I can one day.

trice Thu 18-Jul-13 09:18:11

My legs are not pretty. I have bruises, scars, varicose veins and my grey skin hangs off in wrinkly folds. I have cankles as well. I wear a skirt or shorts when it's hot as my comfort is more important to me than that of strangers who might be upset at the sight of my flesh. Sod them. I have worse things to worry about.

shewhowines Thu 18-Jul-13 09:18:53

You do see some sights when the sun comes out.

I didn't show my legs for a few years due to my varicousy, lumpy, blue legs but now i've lost a bit of weight I have subjected people to them. I feel I still look bad but not double bad, now i've lost some weight iyswim.

In this heatwave though, I think all normal rules are allowed to fly out of the window. It's far too hot to be uncomfortable.

I'm wearing short shorts today. So short my thighs are on show but long enough that my arse isn't grin

My scars are visible from quite a distance and people ask what happened. Its only the past couple of year I've been able to stop keeping it covered as try go from knee to ankle.

Fuck everyone else. Its warm and I want my legs out. If I could I would be walking a round nude as its so warm but apparently that's not acceptable or something grin

MrsMelons Thu 18-Jul-13 09:24:50

I think knee length skirts are fine. I don't understand why anyone would want to wear really short skirts unless they had the legs for them. I am early 30s and work out lots but I still wouldn't wear a really short skirt with bare legs as they are not that great IMO, I would wear hold ups or tights or the airbrush legs stuff if mega hot.

MrsMelons Thu 18-Jul-13 09:26:04

If I had scars that is different, I don't see why you should have to cover them but I am talking about cellulite - YUK, I hate it and is the main thing I would change about my body if I could!

thebody Thu 18-Jul-13 09:26:20

kitten, respectfully fuck off! you only look desperate if you are desperate chik. age not a factor.

op wear what you like, I am over 40 and wear what the fuck I like.

MrsBeep Thu 18-Jul-13 09:27:01

ThisReally.... It's annoying that we have to wear clothes isn't it? If I'm at home and anyone comes knocking right now, they may be waiting a while for me to answer as I'm trying to find a dressing gown to sling over me.

NobodyPutsTomArcherInTheCorner Thu 18-Jul-13 09:29:24

I prefer to wear skirts and dresses. Nothing mini though for me.

Shorts look awful with my thunder thighs but I do wear crop trousers. I just know that'll be fashion faux pas of the century but I don't give a stuffgrin

Back2Two Thu 18-Jul-13 09:30:06

Another one here wondering what I would be desperate for if I showed my legs? Jeez!

...I'm 43....wear whatever you are comfortable in (and I don't mean elasticated waistband comfy....I mean HAPPY comfy)

You feel good, you look good .....

MrsMelons Thu 18-Jul-13 09:30:13

I also actually find that long floaty skirts are a lot cooler in this weather then you can shimmy them up when sunbathing grin

MrsMelons Thu 18-Jul-13 09:31:51

I am shock at kittens comment, what the hell has being desperate got to do with anything. My legs aren't often on show but my boobs are as the are quite big but I am not desperate for anything other than sleep

How desperate would I look walking around nude then? grin

I dont care what people look like. I'm too busy worrying about people staring at my scars tbh.

I visited my mum who is 40. She was wearing a very short skirt. I commented and she said
'SP, at some point in life you stop caring about what people think' then said 'plus <stepdads name> likes my legs' and then shakes her arse at him!

My point been never question why someone is wearing something. [grin

shewhowines Thu 18-Jul-13 09:44:28

You shouldn't be embarrassed at scars. They tell a story and you should be proud to be alive to tell it.

Squitten Thu 18-Jul-13 09:52:11

Wear whatever you like! I can honestly say that I have never wondered around examining the legs of other women for traces of hair so I wouldn't even notice what your legs looked like.

I usually live in jeans but I bought some maternity dresses for this pregnancy and I love them! Definitely going to be sticking with dresses in the future

Its a shit story. I was crossing the road to give my brother an ice cream and a car hit me. I have lied when children have asked and told them it was a shark bite grin

This sun is making them very itchy and paler though.

But this weather means I cant cover it up as I will melt. I'm sat in the house at the moment and I feel like I'm going to melt

I must have lost a stone in weight during to sweating. Wouldn't be surprised if I have shrunk

Feminine Thu 18-Jul-13 10:01:15

I also think we should wear whatever we like ....at any age!

I have a V. vein. I got it from 3 pregnancies. Should I just wear a floor length smock now?

Life happens to bodies...I've yet to see one that deserves to be trapped in an uncomfortable 'get-up' especially in this heat!

shewhowines Thu 18-Jul-13 10:01:51

thisreally I might use the sharkbite tale for mine, although people don't tend to ask tbh even though it is obvious.

Its mainly children that ask and I think a shark fight sounds better than been run over grin

I'm heading to town soon and tempted to go in a bikini grin

digerd Thu 18-Jul-13 10:14:43

Yesterday, I walked round the house < alone> in my knickers in the afternoon, as got rid of my shorts when my legs 'aged' suddenly. Used to wear very short ones with a slit on the outside until a few years ago, but only in the garden.
When out, I wear maxi skirts when really hot. Leggings are too hot for me atm so wear lightweight loose elasticated waist trousers for dog walking.

CockyFox Thu 18-Jul-13 10:20:34

I am shocked at this thread. I am 30, my thighs are each as wide as my waist was 10years ago.

I have veins, scars and stretch marks and today I am wearing a mini skirt and I don't give a flying one what other people think.

mumblechum1 Thu 18-Jul-13 10:30:04

All through my thirties and forties I never wore anything above the knee, or a bikini.

Now I'm 50, I've slimmed down from a 14 to a 10, am more toned than I've ever been and wear bikinis and shorts, (albeit only on private beaches and pools) because I feel more confident than I ever did.

When I was in my teens and twenties I was a size 8 but all I ever saw was how flatchested I was.

It's all about how you feel in your head more than anything imo.

Latara Thu 18-Jul-13 10:38:12

I'm gradually getting slimmer so I bought a second summer dress yesterday (just above knee length).

I could complain about my legs not being perfect but the way I see it - I have legs, some people don't!

NobodyPutsTomArcherInTheCorner Thu 18-Jul-13 10:52:58

The thing is though, who actually notices other people's imperfections? I can't say I do and yet I'm more than happy to beat myself up about mine as if anyone really gives a stuff if I'm honestconfused.

People just look like people to me and they come in all shapes and sizes and that's ok.

shewhowines Thu 18-Jul-13 11:02:10

People just look like people to me and they come in all shapes and sizes and that's ok.

It is ok but don't you notice one or two and think "they really shouldn't be wearing that" - whereas you wouldn't even notice them if the clothes were more flattering.

<ducks and runs quickly>

I have just seen an elderly woman in those mv hammer like pants in leopard print, those topshop crop top bra things and crocs.

It was the crocs I couldn't understand grin

LadyClariceCannockMonty Thu 18-Jul-13 11:31:29

Fuck it all. Wear what you want. Kittensoft is being an age and style Nazi smile although I have to agree longer skirts (in light fabrics) can be very cool, cooler than the sun on your bare legs.

I did giggle though at 'My GP was wearing a too short dress the other day. Legs like a rugby player.' grin

bettycocker Thu 18-Jul-13 11:34:29

I haven't got the best legs, but if it's hot, I'll get them out. They defintely look better with a tan.

I've got short muscular legs. I've even got bloody shin muscles since doing all the Jillian Michaels DVDs. If anyone says anything mean about my muscly legs I'll crush them between my thighs. grin

thepeanutsparent Thu 18-Jul-13 12:18:33

SP ditto I have a very simalar situation bad scarring on leg and just the past few years been able to feel comfortable showing leg. Am 34 now and wish I hadn't spent the past decade worrying people would judge. I love wearing sundresses now smile

wasabipeanut Thu 18-Jul-13 12:33:39

I am a 12 but my legs are ok. Wider than I'd like but a good shape with slim ankles. I spent years being painfully self conscious of my legs but now I wear skirts or dresses to the knee or just above. Nothing shorter than that and def not shorts - ever. The arse cheek ones are obscene on me and the longer ones just make me look ridiculous.

I also make sure my legs are well moisturised etc. I do resent the extra grooming tbh. I wish I had the strength to say "fuck it" but I don't.

arabesque Thu 18-Jul-13 12:39:34

In this weather everyone is dressing to be cool and I don't think anyone is taking much notice of other people's legs or examining them to see if they're beautifully smooth and slim and deserving of a pair of shorts or mini skirt (or guaging the age of their owner to decide if she's over 45 and obviously desperate).

I have nice legs but have always been self concious about showing my collar bone as I feel I look very pale and scrawny and chickeny. However I have thrown caution to the wind in this heat and no one has keeled over with shock.

I agree though that magazines have a lot to answer for with their airbrushed digitally enhanced photos of Barbie sized creatures with flawless skin. I actually think people in RL would be more likely to stare in disbelief at someone like that than a perfectly ordinary woman with uneven skin tone, varicose veins, chunky ankles etc.

KittensoftPuppydog Thu 18-Jul-13 13:49:23

Well some people have been rather rude. I thought that this thread was canvassing opinions.
You can, of course, do what you like, however I will continue to think that showing your thighs in middle age is pretty naff.
What would you say to a ninety year old who wanted to wear hot pants? You go for it girl!
I prefer to be cool and age appropriate. You can all carry on looking like munters if you like grin

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Thu 18-Jul-13 13:51:13

Nice! hmm

Kittens What is age appropriate? I'm 22 and in short shorts. Which birthday should I stop wearing them?

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Thu 18-Jul-13 14:13:13

Maybe all women over 40 should wear a burka? Just so they don't look desperate? hmm

bettycocker Thu 18-Jul-13 14:14:54

Desperate for what? hmm

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Thu 18-Jul-13 14:15:44

God knows! hmm

blibblibs Thu 18-Jul-13 14:18:32

I'm about to put some clothes on for the school run & it'll be jeans for me.

Hell would have to freeze over before I got my legs out in public!

YummyYummyYum Thu 18-Jul-13 14:40:30

I think dresses and skirts are flattering on most women, so I am sure you will look good. High waist trousers on the other hand...

YummyYummyYum Thu 18-Jul-13 14:42:54

Forgot to say, it depends what you want. If you want to be comfortable, use the skirt/dress you want. If you want to look even better, look for a skirt/dress that will flatter your body shape.

KittensoftPuppydog Thu 18-Jul-13 14:51:15

Thisisreallynot, at 22 you can wear anything really, no matter what your shape is. Young flesh just looks nice. I've said earlier that 45 is a good cut off point for getting your thighs out.
At 22 I wore the shortest minis that I could, however being quite prude even then I'd also usually wore thick tights and flat shoes. (in the olden days it was fashionable).
Just to wind people up even further, I do not think that armpits should be on show in the office.

No armpits in office grin I dont think ankles should be out in McDonalds or elbows in KFC

...Well some people have been rather rude...... Yes - you, Kittensoft.

bettycocker Thu 18-Jul-13 15:11:51

Actually KittensoftPuppydog. Young flesh really does look nice regardless. During the hot weather we've had, I've noticed young women of all sizes in their skimpy summer clothes and they have all looked lovely.

KittensoftPuppydog Thu 18-Jul-13 15:14:43

Betty
That's exactly what I said confused

My young flesh does not look nice. I have seen older woman with better legs than me

KittensoftPuppydog Thu 18-Jul-13 15:19:24

Sdt, I've been called a nazi and told to fuck off on this thread.
I thought this thread was canvassing opinions. You don't have to listen to mine.
I don't excuse myself from any of these restrictions, because I want to look nice and not like a twat.
Each to their own.

NandH Thu 18-Jul-13 15:25:22

Yes grin ....although yesterday I was walking along the beach front with dc, I was wearing a strappy top and shorts (nothing hanging out!!!) as it was 30 degrees and bloody boiling and a old woman in a sodding coat and full length trousers told me to 'go and get dressed' ...I was so stunned I didn't have time to respond, I guessed you must have missed ALL the men with their tops off and some women wearing bikinis hmm

Back2Two Thu 18-Jul-13 15:26:57

I think that this good weather is great for us all starting to relax about our bodies. As we see more flesh on display we realise that we're all the same but different and you start not to care so much about exposing a bit more. In this weather less is practical

bettycocker Thu 18-Jul-13 15:33:53

KittensoftPuppydog , I know. I was agreeing with you. smile I would feel like a total knob wearing some of the things I see young people wearing.

I'm sure that older women look fine in short skirts and dresses too. It's not something that I see very often though.

KittensoftPuppydog Thu 18-Jul-13 15:45:38

Thisisreallynot, you are young and therefore don't realise how attractive you are.
Don't waste your youth worrying. I bet you look great.

OctopusPete8 Thu 18-Jul-13 15:52:47

I feel very self concious tall fat legs worst combination possible.

LadyClariceCannockMonty Thu 18-Jul-13 16:47:02

Kitten, I didn't ACTUALLY mean I think you're comparable to a Nazi. It was light-hearted.

You've called people munters (with a grin, not a smile, which comes across as laughing at them) and, indirectly, called them twats too.

So yes, everyone's entitled to their opinion but people are just pointing out that you've expressed yours rather rudely.

KittensoftPuppydog Thu 18-Jul-13 18:25:50

Oh, right, lady clarice
That was lighthearted so that's ok then.
I was being lighthearted too, when I said that people could look like munters and twats if they liked.
wink

SO to get back to appropriate clothing....anyone got any links to floaty maxi dresses/skirts? I've seen some lovely ones around recently. Although I usually wear linen trousers.

I find skirts, for me, are coolest & cover a multitude of sins, although I have been wearing long shorts today as I tripped while walking the dog on Monday & have a full length graze on my left shin Norty words were said! & anything full length catches it. grin

Today in the park I saw a young woman who evidently didn't think it was OK to have bare legs with her mid-thigh dress... she was wearing tartan tights shock. Honestly, whatever veins, scars or cellulite some of us older women have we can't possibly look as bad as that! grin

Kitten I agree with you. Same age as Madonna here and very disappointed in her. I expected more somehow.

Wear skirts or shorts. It's madness to cover your legs up in jeans in this weather.

I've been wearing a short skater style skirt today. My legs are pasty (and I have no intention of them being otherwise) and I think I look quite nice. All the women I've seen this week (of various ages and sizes) in skirts, shorts and dresses (of varying lengths and clinginess) have looked perfectly nice too. Much better than looking all sweaty in clothing you'd wear in winter.

Tbh, I don't actually notice other women's legs and tummies, wobbly or otherwise. I assume everyone is as uninterested in my legs as I am in theirs.

(Also on the basis of an MN thread I bought a bikini yesterday to wear on holiday rather than a swimsuit. I will show my pale skin and stretch marks to the world, and the world won't give a shit.)

I'm living in short shorts right now. My legs aren't what they were but fuck it. I'm not trying to impress anyone, just trying to not melt into a puddle, admittedly it would be a puddle of awesomeness but still... would rather not be a puddle, so the shorts (and skirts) are staying on!

I can't imagine that I will get to 90 and regret wearing short skirts in my 30s, 40s, whatever. I'd be much more likely to regret not having done so, like I regret not wearing bikinis etc when I was 18 (and would have looked better in them than I ever could post pregnancy).

It's only legs and you can't even see them in long skirts/dresses.

I wear dresses even though my legs are a bit ropey sometimes unshaven. I do wear below knee as they are discoloured from eczema/psoriasis.

I confess I was ogling a woman today who was wearing a white see through cheesecloth dress, with lace french knickers. I could see all of her bum cheeks and though it wasn't a horrible sight..I dont think I would of dared

Pretty much agree with most of you really. Dresses are great in this weather, just not too tight and short. For aesthetic and temperature reasons.

Lighthearted is not how your posts come across, Kitten. But anyway.

Tights in this weather, Grimma! She must have sweltered. I saw someone in shorts and tights on the tube and I felt ill with heat just looking at her.
