Got the chilli on and just discovered that I have no rice left.

Would it be that bad to just serve it with pasta (fusilli if that makes a difference)?

MrsCliveStanden Fri 28-Jun-13 15:43:04

I would go to the shop for rice tbh.

I almost served pasta sauce with rice yesterday. I stopped myself grin

I'd make potato wedges instead.

Nothing wrong with it at all. YANBU

lirael Fri 28-Jun-13 15:45:02

No - just serve it with pasta - it's only for the family, I'm assuming?

wonderingsoul Fri 28-Jun-13 15:48:59

whats wrong with chilli and pasta?

insomniarules Fri 28-Jun-13 15:49:31

Erm. I did exactly that last night for thd sand reasons. It was fine.

FringeEvent Fri 28-Jun-13 15:49:59

Don't suppose you have any potatoes? I've done a 'chilli cottage pie' type thing before, with cheesy mash for the topping

EduCated Fri 28-Jun-13 15:50:14

I often have pasta and chilli ad I don't eat rice. It's only like bolognese, innit? wink

It is fine, like spicy bolognaise.

Ilovesunflowers Fri 28-Jun-13 15:50:41

I always eat chilli with pasta. It's just spicy spag bol really!

AmandaPandtheTantrumofDoom Fri 28-Jun-13 15:51:04

There's nothing inherently odd about the flavour combinations, go ahead.

I might do jackets instead though. Jacket spuds and chilli is one of my favourites.

RobotBananas Fri 28-Jun-13 15:51:59

Its nice. Add cheese.

StuntGirl Fri 28-Jun-13 15:52:15

<shrug> We have it with any carb we happen to have in, pasta, rice, potatoes, potato wedges. Go wild! grin

ArtemisKelda Fri 28-Jun-13 15:54:29

I've made chilli lasagne before now, it was delicious. Sounds reasonable to me.

MortifiedAdams Fri 28-Jun-13 15:55:31

Ah grand. Due to do a big shop so have barely anything in and just assumed thered be rice as "we always have rice in" grin

MortifiedAdams Fri 28-Jun-13 15:56:02

That chilli cottage pie sounds lovely

aldiwhore Fri 28-Jun-13 15:56:58

If anyone says you shouldn't, you should!

I'm off pasta at present, but I'd prefer it to rice and yahboo to anyone who says it's not 'proper'.

diddl Fri 28-Jun-13 16:03:57

Jacket potato for me!

Funny how we get about certain things "going together" isn't it?

My daughter doesn't like chilli or rice much so the compromise is that she'll eat it with pasta.

Nearly gagged the first time she suggested it-& I wasn't even going to be eating it!blushgrin

anyway chilli and pasta is ds2 FAVOURITE dinner, he hates rice.

Bejeena Fri 28-Jun-13 16:06:17

We always used to have chilli con carne with pasta when I was growing up, I didn't know it any other way. Always used to have pasta twists though, don't know why!

Mintyy Fri 28-Jun-13 16:07:39

I would go to the shop for rice but that is purely because I love rice and am a bit meh about pasta.

It's the only way i'll eat chilli.
I loathe white rice y'see smile

hardbeingme Fri 28-Jun-13 16:09:47

i like to turn into a chilli pasta bake by cooking pasta, cooking chilli mix together, bung in pyrex, put cheese on top (i use cheddar cos i like it basically!) then bake till bubbly.

(disclaimer i like to add cheese wherever possible)

Chilli with jackets & cheese - yes
Chilli with chips & cheese - yes
Chilli with nachos & cheese - yes
Chilli with pasta - nooooo (even with cheese)

MinnesotaNice Fri 28-Jun-13 16:14:02

It's called Cincinnati Chili in the US smile

MortifiedAdams Fri 28-Jun-13 16:16:25

Oh no I missed the deleted post.

MortifiedAdams Fri 28-Jun-13 16:17:24

And im not usually funny about only having certain foods together - I put mint sauce on all roasts, not just lamb.

AmandaPandtheTantrumofDoom Fri 28-Jun-13 16:18:07

I wonder what it said - no you horrid peasant type how on earth could you consider such a thing grin?

Oh don't worry. You didn't miss anything. It was a non-sequitur.

Nah. The thread isn't controversial enough. It's the summer holidays in Scotland...

FreudiansSlipper Fri 28-Jun-13 16:19:29

i would go and get some rice or do potato wedges

just not a great mix it is too stodgy

bleedingheart Fri 28-Jun-13 16:21:45

YY to chilli pasta bake.

catsrus Fri 28-Jun-13 16:24:14

pasta arrabiata is pasta with a chilli sauce (though not usually meaty chilli) and we eat it a lot - it goes fine.

Bejeena Fri 28-Jun-13 16:26:02

How on earth is it too stodgy? The contents of chilli are the same of a spaghetti bolognaise but just a bit of spice no? Where does the extra stodge come from?

hardbeingme Fri 28-Jun-13 16:30:36

twas a proper recipe from a proper book and everything except they used mozzarella(sp) and personally i think its boring and they didn't add enough chilli peppers.

hmmm... suddenly decided what's for dinner....

LillyGrinter Fri 28-Jun-13 16:38:14

I'd go ahead and have the pasta! You have spicy pasta sauce so what the difference?

FreudiansSlipper Fri 28-Jun-13 16:44:59

i like a spicy sauce with pasta like arrabiata but not a sauce that has cumin and kidney beans in just imo does not go all too much together

squeakytoy Fri 28-Jun-13 16:49:41

chilli is little more than bolognaise with beans and chilli pepper in it.. so why not?

HeffalumpTheFlump Fri 28-Jun-13 16:53:18

Nothing wrong with it at all! It's yummy.

How on earth did someone manage to get a post deleted for breaking the guidelines on a thread about chilli and pasta??

Moominsarehippos Fri 28-Jun-13 16:56:03

It's carb! Not too dissimilar to a spicy bolognaise (with beans) I suppose.

Small portions though - it will be heaveeee!

ballinacup Fri 28-Jun-13 17:20:25

Mix chilli and pasta together in a deep oven dish. In a bowl, smash up tortilla chips into crumbs, mix grated cheese of choice with tortilla crumbs. Spread cheese and chip mixture over the top of the pasta and chilli. Bake until crispy on top. A-MA-ZING.

ravenAK Fri 28-Jun-13 17:23:43

In this house:

Chilli pasta bake = yum.

Chilli + pasta = weird & wrong.

...which makes no sense at all when you think about it!

I'd dig out some wraps/tortillas & make enchilladas though. Or cous cous seems to go.

flipchart Fri 28-Jun-13 17:25:03

Would someone please PM about the deleted thread.
I am seriously curious. I came on to say we have pasta with chili often and then find out someone has been upsetting the applecart!!
Promise I won't refer to it!

DiamondDoris Fri 28-Jun-13 17:26:53

Nothing wrong with pasta and chilli. Sometimes a chilli doesn't need any carb to go with it (not counting the beans). What about tortilla chips?

Trazzletoes Fri 28-Jun-13 17:27:27

The best things in the world with chilli are either:

1) pancakes and cheese sauce; or

2) Yorkshire pudding

EduCated Fri 28-Jun-13 17:48:24

Trazzle, I think you may be some kind of god. Chilli and Yorkshire Pudding? I HAVE TO TRY THIS IMMEDIATELY.

Trazzletoes Fri 28-Jun-13 18:36:34

Edu make sure the chilli is served IN the Yorkshire pudding tho...

And yes, I am some kind of God grin <prints out thread and frames it>

raisah Fri 28-Jun-13 18:36:54

Chilli & pasta is like a mexican version of spag bolognese! No big deal enjoy!

Well, chilli is just bolognese with a few extras. I do this all the time.

cardibach Fri 28-Jun-13 18:52:16

I wouldn't - it doesn't seem 'right'. I like the texture of rice with chilli. I eat Arabiatta, so agree I am probably being a bit odd - I thin k it is because the Arabiatta sauce is thinner so the texture works better. I would prefer jackets or wedges.

GingerPCatt Fri 28-Jun-13 18:55:17

Add lots of cheese and its chilli Mac an American dish. Totally fine. grin

Allthingspretty Fri 28-Jun-13 19:05:39

it will be lovely.Have done it myself.

TrinityRhino Fri 28-Jun-13 19:09:13

It will be yummy, nothing to worry about

I wouldn't. I'd have the chilli with crusty bread, or garlic pitta bread, or tortillas, or even just salad.

Cheeseatmidnight Fri 28-Jun-13 19:20:16

Fine as far as I'm concerned! I love cous cous with chilli

diddl Fri 28-Jun-13 19:27:20

Ooh cous cous-food of the gods!

FlumpsRule Fri 28-Jun-13 19:49:57

Who makes up the food 'rules' anyway? Sounds fine to me & I hope you enjoyed it smile
