to wash bra only once a week?

I don’t think I’m a dirty sow but maybe I am. My mother died before I started wearing bras and well before and after that we spent a lot of time moving around, often unable to wash clothes or even shop for them (refugees), so sometimes I discover strange gaps in my, er, general knowledge. No one’s ever suggested I smell or anything but hand washing bras is such a bother, and the machine damages them, so I tend to do it only once a week, assuming I've not been especially sweaty. But of course I change pants daily, and vests … is once a week too little for bras? What should I teach my DD?

And what about things like tights? Was a bit surprised recently to learn my SIL washes them after EVERY wearing, but even more surprised to realise she also doesn’t wear pants under them. She’s American though, maybe they’re just different? Or she personally is?

MrsRajeshKoothrappali Wed 26-Jun-13 09:51:12

I wash mine after every wear, but a) my ribcage/under boobs is where I sweat and b) have ishoos and can't go out in non-matching underwear.

hmm

Do whatever is comfortable for you, screw what other people think.

I machine wash mine on a 30 wash - they're always fine.

smile

I put bras in the washing machine and shock tumble dryer with no observable problems.

I wear bras generally more than once but definitely not for a week before washing. Maybe I get sweatier underboobs than you? I do a "big wash" twice a week and there will be at least one bra there. Nursing bras are a special case, particularly in the very early days when I'm very leaky <vom>

Tights require underwear underneath because I require a cotton gusset. Both underwear and tights are washed after one wear - the feet of tights get as grubby/sweaty as socks whatever you think about the leg part or crotch part.

TickleMyTitsTillFriday Wed 26-Jun-13 09:59:36

I only have one bra that fits me and one spare that almost does. I wash once a week or maybe less often than that. And I don't give a shit! I smell amazing I do.

TickleMyTitsTillFriday Wed 26-Jun-13 10:00:18

I also wear pants to bed!

Eyesunderarock Wed 26-Jun-13 10:01:43

If you are worried about things getting damaged, then put them in a laundry bag inside the machine, it's a bag with little holes in that you can buy from a supermarket. It's how I was tights.
Most bras can cope with a machine on 30 degrees.
Change bras at least every two days, tights every day, like pants.

It's one of the reasons being anonymous on MN is so useful, you can ask any question and know that no-one will recognise you in RL.

MrsR 'Do whatever is comfortable for you, screw what other people think.'

That works well as an individual, but the OP has a daughter, and children can be vicious to others they think are different. So whatever her personal decisions, it's always good to know what the social norm is before deciding to go against it.

SpooMoo Wed 26-Jun-13 10:04:18

I wash mine once a week or even once a fortnight. They don't smell! And I like to do them on a low temp gentle wash.

Shutupanddrive Wed 26-Jun-13 10:06:23

I put all of my bras in the washing machine at 40degrees and they are fine. I don't tumble dry them though, they dry quickly enough hung over radiator (even if not on)

mrsshackleton Wed 26-Jun-13 10:08:01

I probably only wash mine around once a month blush, however I do swap three or four around.

Knickers, socks, tights after every wear though.

bigkidsdidit Wed 26-Jun-13 10:08:27

I wear mine twice or three times, but I have small boobs so no sweating underneath.

Eyesunderarock Wed 26-Jun-13 10:10:05

Perhaps it depends on what you do in a day, as well as your personal hygiene and general physiology?

Dragonwoman Wed 26-Jun-13 10:13:15

I wouldn't wash mine more than once a week, but I don't sweat very much unless exercising. I would wash a sports bra or a nursing bra after each wear, but these tend to be non wire, so will go in the machine.

Wolfiefan Wed 26-Jun-13 10:15:07

I wash after each wear.

NinaHeart Wed 26-Jun-13 10:16:21

I wear bras for an average of three days, knickers and tights are definitely clean every day.

sweetestcup Wed 26-Jun-13 10:21:08

Im the same as mrsshackleton, alternate a few then wash whenever they need it. Cant say they have ever smelled, couldn't bare having to wash after every wear as for me this is overkill.

Hasitfallendownagain Wed 26-Jun-13 10:23:57

I would wear a bra probably 1-3 times before washing it. If I'm washing the top I wore, then I always wash the bra too. So usually after just 1 wear in summer, perhaps more in cold weather. I just wash them in the machine at 40 degrees with the rest of the washing.

Tights I would wash after every wear.

I currently have only 1 bra that fits properly having only recently worked out what size I am. I do wear my old bras to bed though so it isn't being worn 24/7.

Ilovesunflowers Wed 26-Jun-13 10:28:54

I wash bras once or twice a week. I would wash tights after every wearing.

onepieceoflollipop Wed 26-Jun-13 10:29:12

CHJR, you have had some good advice re the bras. fwiw I wear mine 2 days, then wash in a laundry bag on a delicate cycle.

I Understood entirely what you said re gaps in your knowledge. I was brought up without a mother and have two dds now, I am still learning/finding out a lot so you are not the only one. smile

TickleMyTitsTillFriday Wed 26-Jun-13 10:34:04

Oh and mine goes in the washing machine on delicate cycle. You can then take out the bra and give the rest an extra spin cycle.

happyyonisleepyyoni Wed 26-Jun-13 10:41:09

I wash my bras less than once a week probably, they don't get sweaty or smell and don't get stains on them.

Ifancyashandy Wed 26-Jun-13 10:42:24

I wash bras after every wear. They are the item of clothing that sits closest to your skin - and to one the major sites of the sweat glands. You'd wash a top after each wear, so why not a bra? I have some I hand wash as they are very delicate or were expensive, some I wash in the machine on 30 and using a laundry bag.

Tights get worn (only in the winter - cant abide in the summer) once before washing also. And always with knickers.

chickabilla Wed 26-Jun-13 10:48:07

I was mine every 3 days ish, in the washing machine and on the line/airer. Every day if hot and sweaty. Pants, socks, vest, tights every day.

tigerlilygrr Wed 26-Jun-13 11:00:05

Ooh I have never really thought about this. I wash tights after every wear, otherwise they would be an environmental hazard. My feet are awful! Always wear pants under tights, surely you chafe otherwise!

Bras - I have loads, I love them, but hardly ever wash them. Possibly once a month. Possibly less! They seem fine to me. They definitely don't smell. Might up the frequency now I have read the thread.

Your background sounds very different OP - rather a lot for a child to deal with - would you say it's made you resourceful?

I put all of mine in the wash - not tumble dryer though.

I do think you need to change it more than once a week. Does it smell a little or get that grubby grey colour?

Bloody DD comes in from school and changes her bra when she changes out of her school uniform. Shame she doesn't brush her hair or her teeth but least her under boobs are super clean!

LieweHeksie Wed 26-Jun-13 11:06:47

IME if you have a 'sweaty bra' then you are wearing a badly fitted bra and need to get to the bra intervention thread smile

minouminou Wed 26-Jun-13 11:08:30

I've got four bras that I wear pretty much all the time....two are black and two are beigey/pinky for white/thin clothes.
I wear whichever is appropriate for the day's clothes, and this works out that the two black ones get washed once a week each, as do the beige ones, but each bra is only worn, say, twice or thrice a week, and not often consecutive days.

I've got fancier bras that get the odd outing too, and I do prefer to hand wash these, but my utilitarian bras aren't underwired, so stand up to a 30-40 degree wash.

Ifancyashandy Wed 26-Jun-13 11:12:55

Didn't say I had a "sweaty bra", more that it sits closets to the site of sweat glands. Have already utilised the Bra Intervention thread - who merely confirmed Rigby & Peller's and Bravissio's advice. But thanks for the advice if that was directed at me.

LieweHeksie Wed 26-Jun-13 11:31:17

it wasn't directed at anyone.

just trying to be helpful. I wore badly fitting sweaty bras for more years that I care to admit.

RiffyWammal Wed 26-Jun-13 12:35:20

Crikey. This thread has made me feel like a right dirty mare! I really am living up to my username (which only Black Country people will understand).

<<washes bra>>

<<bra disintegrates as was only held together by sweat and skin particles>>

imnotmymum Wed 26-Jun-13 12:39:42

I too change my bra each time i get changed and I do have to match. If I have worn a bra all day then wash, tights after each wear and knickers. Do machine wash and dry. As a tangent I am currently spring cleaning and my bra drawers are now colour coded beautifully

HerrenaHarridan Wed 26-Jun-13 14:38:57

This thread reminds me why I love mn. You can ask questions like this in private while getting a wide range of opinions.

I alternate 3 bras and wash every 2/3 weeks, after wearing I hang them somewhere to get the air.

They go in on a delicate wash because I have monster boobs and they cost a small fortune (on my budget) I use a laundry bag and wash them in a barely half full machine.

Tights one wear, with pants. In winter a pair of pants on top of tights will help keep them up smile

MadBusLady Wed 26-Jun-13 14:42:27

I wear mine 2/3 times and I don't get sweaty boobs, but they start to feel "old" after that. A week is definitely pushing it, I think.

MadBusLady Wed 26-Jun-13 14:43:45

And IIRC I got called a dirty mare for that on another thread! So OP, you must be a filthy mare grin

Crinkle77 Wed 26-Jun-13 14:46:19

It all depends on how warm the weather has been and how long you have have been wearing them in the day. If it is hot I might wear the same bra for a couple of days max. A bit longer in winter cos you don't sweat as much then. As for tights I would wash them after every wearing but then it depends how long you have had them on. If you have only had them on for an hour or two then I would wear them again. If I had them on in work all day then probably not

HabitualLurker Wed 26-Jun-13 14:47:58

I only wash mine roughly every 3 wears.. I certainly don't wash a top after each wear either! But I've never had sweaty underboob (am rather small in the boob department) unless I've been doing some major exercise.

Once a week doesn't sound too ridiculous to me.

As for tights, if they're the thick woolen sort then I wouldn't necessarily wash after each wear either.

GobblersKnob Wed 26-Jun-13 14:56:50

I wash after 1 or 2 wears, handwash or very occasionally super delicate machine wash at 20.

I have upward of thirty bras though......

Tights wash after every wear and always with undercrackers underneath.

Goldenhedgehog Wed 26-Jun-13 14:58:08

Really wouldn't occur to me to wear bras more than once other than in an emergency of the needing-a-specific-colour-to-wear-with-a-top kind.

It's underwear! Mind you, I would rarely wear a top more than once, unless I'd not worn it all day.

ImNotBloody14 Wed 26-Jun-13 15:00:22

I do bras and tights after each
wear as to me they are underwear and underwear needs changed daily. Also, if i wear a bra for two days it feels uncomfortable around the under arms and sides of ribs- im not overly sweaty but im a cleaner and do have parts of the day where i am very sweaty so i do change them daily. Did all my life though.

ImNotBloody14 Wed 26-Jun-13 15:01:15

And always wear pants under tights. I cant imagine not!

TheRealFellatio Wed 26-Jun-13 15:03:05

I wear a bra for two days, sometimes three at a push, but I am a very unsweaty person, and I shower every day.

I have never seen a need to wash bras by hand (and I cannot see how that is sufficient for underwear anyhow) and I have rarely had a bra get damaged in the wash. I don't tumble dry them though. I can't imagine a bra would smell too great if it only gets a handwash once a week. I therefore conclude that YABU.

squoosh Wed 26-Jun-13 15:03:11

Tights with no knickers underneath makes me sad for that sweaty, overheated vagina. It needs a little cotton barrier.

alemci Wed 26-Jun-13 15:06:35

I would wash mine every 2 to 3 days. Never without going in a laundry bag on a wool or handwash cycle or even by hand. Too expensive to ruin.

Doyouthinktheysaurus Wed 26-Jun-13 15:10:29

My bras are washed mostly after one day, tights always only worn once.

I bung all my bras in the washing machine, they survive. I don't hand wash anything, far too lazy.....

Holly1977 Wed 26-Jun-13 15:45:19

omg, I hardly ever wash my bras! i don't sweat a lot though. i only have 3 or 4 that fit me. i wash them when i notice they look really grubby. then i just chuck them in the wash with everything else.

pants obviously every day. i don't wear tights but if i did, i might wash them every time but only cos they tend to make my feet smell funny. i always hand wash tights, hold ups etc cos otherwise the elastic goes.

ephemeralfairy Wed 26-Jun-13 16:51:26

Blimey. Bras are expensive!! I've only got two wearable ones. Am not ashamed to say I wash them about once a week. Apart from gym kit, knickers and socks/tights I wear all clothes til...well, til they're visibly dirty or whiffy.

I go for weeks without changing my bedclothes too. I am a slattern. I do however shower daily (twice if gym-ing) and I generally smell lush. grin

londonrach Wed 26-Jun-13 16:57:29

Tickle. Glad I'm not the only one that wears pants at night. Also wash bra once a week although pants and socks every day. Mum had breast cancer and worried re damage to bra.

SueDoku Wed 26-Jun-13 17:23:29

I wash mine after 1-4 wears (depending on how hot it is..!). I just pop them into an old pillowcase and they are fine in a 40 degree wash.

orangeandemons Wed 26-Jun-13 17:34:49

If bras were cheaper for big norms, I'd wash mine much more often. But the cost of them means I only have 2. One on and one in the wash

AmberSocks Wed 26-Jun-13 17:46:20

i wash mine every wear or every other wear.I dont wear knickers much unless im wearing a skirt!I hate them, dontknow why i just do.Havnt had an period for abo

AmberSocks Wed 26-Jun-13 17:46:53

sorry

about 5 years due to being pregnant constantly,so only time have worn them is when bleeding pp.

trinity0097 Wed 26-Jun-13 18:01:30

I wash bras after about a weeks worth of wear, I wash in machine abut hang out to dry. Don't bother with the hand wash instructions!

Tights I wash after every wear, but I get rather smelly feet so I would never want to put a pair back on again!

forevergreek Wed 26-Jun-13 18:35:22

Wow, really?

It's never occurred to me not to wash after every wear ( ie daily). It's underwear so wash after each use same as pants/ socks/ tights.

Although I have about 30 pairs and have to match pants smile

Oh and I don't hand wash/ delicate etc, just hung in machine at 40 with everything else. Seem to have survived fine like this for years

MummytoKatie Wed 26-Jun-13 18:53:08

Wash every time. Bung in machine with everything else. (Wear sports bras so no underwriting.)

MummytoKatie Wed 26-Jun-13 18:53:27

Under wiring!

lessonsintightropes Wed 26-Jun-13 19:01:57

I do what others do - wear about three or four, rotate them and wash the lot about every three - four weeks. Am glad I am not the only skanky one ... but I only wash them when they look like they need doing! Pants and tights every day, and always knickers when wearing tights (or any other time when leaving the house tbh!)

CHJR Wed 26-Jun-13 19:03:28

Ooooooh, you are all so helpful. I wish I had known about mumsnet when we first arrived! Have put laundry net bags and a few more bras on my shopping list!

Oblomov Wed 26-Jun-13 19:11:45

I would never wash a bra after every wear. A few days, then it gets washed. Pants and tights, once only.

MadBannersAndCopPorn Wed 26-Jun-13 19:20:05

I wear my bra twice then wash it. I'm also one for wearing matching and always buy two pairs of knickers when buying a bra. It goes in my normal wash usually on 30, maybe on 40. Agree with using a laundry bag to stop bra getting ruined.
My sister wears hers about 3/4 times and has bigger boobs so each to their own...

foreverondiet Wed 26-Jun-13 19:22:19

Wear bras 2 days maybe three days in winter, wash in bag in washing machine with no problems. Always wash tights after every wearing - and of course wear knickers! Dd is 9 - wash her knickers and tights every day but maybe a few days with vests.

Jan49 Wed 26-Jun-13 19:25:32

I wash pants and tights after one day's use but bras... when I think of it.confused Definitely not daily.

I have no idea how often you "should" wash them. They are a lot more expensive than pants and more easily damaged by washing than pants are. I'd want to own about 10 if I were changing them daily. I actually own 4.

I don't ever remember being taught anything about how often to wash stuff but washing was done once a week in my house. I think people change clothing a lot more simply because it's easy nowadays when almost everyone has a washing machine.

MollyNollyNoo Wed 26-Jun-13 19:28:29

I have two that fit properly, they were from a boutique shop and the woman who sold them to me told me to wash them as little as possible. Apparently heat and water damage the Lycra.

They are amazing bras, I can run in them and everything without wobble (F cup so quite an achievement).

I don't think I smell...my boobs stay nice and high though!

BegoniaBampot Wed 26-Jun-13 19:39:05

Wash after 1 or 2 days wearing if the weather is cool enough. What do folk do in warm sweaty weather? My bras last ages even with all the washing they get on with a main wash at 40 degrees.

So how many bras do people have? I must have about 15 plus sports bras.

Sunnymeg Wed 26-Jun-13 20:00:17

I wash mine every three days, but I never put them in the machine. I soak overnight in cold water with a bit of shampoo added, then rinse and hang out the next morning. I forget who told me to use shampoo instead of laundry powder, but it does get the dirt to lift off. I have been doing this for years.

Rosehassometoes Wed 26-Jun-13 20:05:34

I'll often buy 3 pairs of pants to go with a bra. So wear for a few days.

flippinada Wed 26-Jun-13 20:09:47

I wash my bras once a week, in the machine, cool wash, using a laundry bag . I can't be bothered handwashing them, it's just another chore. I have three so each one gets worn 2-3 days max.

They are fine.

apostropheuse Wed 26-Jun-13 20:10:39

I've got loads of bras and pants and I put clean ones on every day. I would only ever wear tights once too. It's the same with tops - one wear then washed. I'm actually very surprised that anyone wouldn't wash underwear or a top after each use.

flippinada Wed 26-Jun-13 20:10:51

Actually I have a lot more than three, these are my comfy every day ones which get the most use.

apostropheuse Wed 26-Jun-13 20:11:17

Oh and I've never handwashed a bra in my life - and I'm not a young thing!

scarlettanager Wed 26-Jun-13 20:11:58

om absolute goodness i am total skank.
one fitting bra.
wash it every 3-4 weeks. don't sweat much and have a shower twice a day.
i need clean therapy

scarlettanager Wed 26-Jun-13 20:12:53

how do you afford so many bras???
how do you afford so many shoes?

scarlettanager Wed 26-Jun-13 20:13:26

how do you afford so many washing cycles?

apostropheuse Wed 26-Jun-13 20:17:22

My salary pays for them. confused

Only wear them for 2 days max. I sometimes get sweaty on my back or under my breasts, and bras are tight against your skin. Certainly wouldn't wear one for a week.

(Washing machine, wool cycle, in washing bags, they go in with other 30C items like sports kit or leggings.)

I do not replace bras just because they are old (isn't the recommendation something hilarious like six months?) but only if I no longer have enough intervention-friendly bras in my drawer.

Also I get mine from the outlet "village" so pay £12 or less for each £40+ bra. That helps too.

MsVestibule Wed 26-Jun-13 21:11:43

Blinking Nora, you're a clean lot!!! I only have one bra (really should buy some more, but as they cost upwards of £35, I tend to only have one at a time) and it probably gets handwashed once a month if I remember.

I really should have another NN for these types of 'how clean are you' type threads. I would like to point out that I do change my pants every day grin.

imnotmymum Wed 26-Jun-13 21:13:08

I have 125 bras and 268 knickers. As I said been spring cleaning into colour mode so had a little count...sad sooooo sad

TheRealFellatio Wed 26-Jun-13 21:14:36

Once a month? shock

<faints>
I'm sorry but that's minting. Seriously.

TheRealFellatio Wed 26-Jun-13 21:14:48

minging even

TheRealFellatio Wed 26-Jun-13 21:16:51

And only handwashing it - my God after a whole month it will need an industrial deep cleanse. There is really no need to hand wash bras. Put them in a zip up bra bag and bung them in with your normal 40 degree wash. Unless you are wearing Rigby and Peller no harm will come of them, I promise.

MadBusLady Wed 26-Jun-13 21:17:19

125 bras, seriously? I thought I was extravagant, I have nine!

imnotmymum Wed 26-Jun-13 21:19:07

Well in my defence my Mother was a lingerie designer so from a young (lingerie wearing) age was bought up with lots of knickers I cannot kick the habit ...

Ifancyashandy Wed 26-Jun-13 21:19:31

I've got about 70 bras. And each one has 2 pairs of matching knickers (thong and shorts). Matching. Always matching!

imnotmymum Wed 26-Jun-13 21:20:03

Hearing you Ifancy ...

mine probably get washed every three weeks but I don't necessarily wear the same one day after day. I'm an unusual size and only have 3 bras that fit and not enough washing to put a load on more regularly. They don't smell... as far as I am aware?

TheRealFellatio Wed 26-Jun-13 21:22:25

I do not own a single matching set. I am very particular about who my bras and knickers fit/feel and the liklihood of finding a prefect bra that just happens to come with the right shape/fit of knickers is zero for me. My knickers are all deeply unsexy M&S white, black or nude large VPL things.

MsVestibule Wed 26-Jun-13 21:33:08

<Passes Real the smelling salts>

Maybe I should just start bunging them in the washing machine then! I'd heard the underwire could come out and damage the machine? But honestly, my bra really, really does not smell. My weekly shower sees to that wink.

The trouble is with these type of 'surveys' is that they're self selecting. I thought twice about confessing I only washed mine once a month; I bet there are quite a few more who won't admit it because they know everybody else on the thread will think they're a skank.

birdmomma Wed 26-Jun-13 21:38:30

I only have 2 bras, they're from Bravissimo and cost a fortune. I change them every 5 days or so. They never smell or look dirty. I only change my tops / other clothes if they look dirty too. I often wear things for more than a day. It seems a bit wasteful to wash things every day. Obviously I change knickers and tights daily. I have to wrestle clothes off my partner after a week or so. He hates his clothes being washed. My bras just get chucked into the machine with everything else and they last ages. They are quite utilitarian though.

TheRealFellatio Wed 26-Jun-13 21:39:57

The wires can come out if you wash them on a really high spin speed, but if you invest in a washable bra case from Lakeland this will not happen. Honestly - once a month is grim. And I am not an OCD clean freak - just a normal well balanced person with reasonable standards.

nohalfmeasures Wed 26-Jun-13 21:40:46

I sniff mine- if they smell they get washed. Usually every 5-7 days. I think we have an obsession with washing clothes.

TheRealFellatio Wed 26-Jun-13 21:43:48

I agree bird it is not always necessary to wash thing every day - except knickers, tights and socks. But on the flip side, there is a limit to how many times you can wear something that clings to any er...moist parts, (so that's everything except skirts and jackets and outer cards) before they will start to smell. It's not just BO - it's that musty, cloying 'fleabag' smell we all remember from the unfortunate kid at school. And cooking smells linger on clothes as well.

Mintyy Wed 26-Jun-13 21:43:49

I wash my tops more often than my bras because my armpits are whiffier than my underboobage. If I am not sure whether my bra needs a wash or not, I give it a quick sniff grin. Wash in the machine in a laundry bag on at least 40. I never do a 30 wash.

<slattern and proud>

TheRealFellatio Wed 26-Jun-13 21:44:24

cardis, not cards!

BegoniaBampot Wed 26-Jun-13 21:47:06

I'm truly gobsmacked. Not a clean freak at all but I thought I was pushing it at wearing a bra for two days! Will wear tops twice if it hasn't been sweaty and only worn for a few hours. Jeans And cardies/over jumpers will wear a good few times. But it's summer, do you do anything energetic - you must sweat at times.

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp Wed 26-Jun-13 21:49:54

I would wear a bra for 2 days, always buy 2 pairs pants so I have a clean pair for each day to match, then wash. Usually 30c machine wash, although have occasionally put them in a 40c and they have come out ok. After bra intervention I am a 32e/f so they are not cheap for my size but they have survived thus far!

Never wear tights, hate them, but when I did at school they were washed every wear. And always pants underneath of course, urrgh, how could anyone wear tights right next to their fanjo? Yuk.

Very envy of those with vast collections of matching underwear, I would love more than the 3/4 decent sets that I have!

BegoniaBampot Wed 26-Jun-13 21:52:37

I wear tights without pants sometimes. Nothing worse than seeing multiple lines and bulges under a nice dress. Tis no different from wearing pants, as long as your not dripping.

I'm shocked at those who wear them for weeks without washing. Would you do that with any other item of clothing? I'm not the most fastidious but I change my bra at least twice a week. Tights get a wash after every use, sweaty crotch isn't a great perfume!

ZillionChocolate Thu 27-Jun-13 07:16:45

I might wear a bra for 3 days. I usually machine wash them. Have had underwiring come out 2-3 times in 18+ years worth of bra wearing. I'm lazy enough to risk it.

Wash tights after every wear. Don't like to put a worn pair back on after the gym etc.

Cat98 Thu 27-Jun-13 07:28:23

I wash mine about once a week. I only have 3 that I like to wear. What's the bra intervention thread? Think I may need it!

Every two days, unless it's really hot, in which case after every wear.

I've always bunged them in the machine at 30 degrees and they last for years.

Tights get really sweaty from fanjo and feet so absolutely get washed every time. I do wear knockers under them.

Yeah I deffo wouldn't wear clothes if they smelled at all. I'm just not very sweaty and it's winter here at the moment. DP's clothes sometimes get a bit fusty. I have to steal them for the wash when he's not looking. I also tend to do a lot of muddy stuff/extreme gardening at the weekends so I sometimes re wear really dirty clothes.
In my view, a bra can be worn longer than most clothes because it's protected from outer dirt and I don't have sweaty tits and my skin is kept pretty clean by regular washing.

Cat93. The bra intervention threads are usually in S&B. me and other bra geeks get you tell us your measurements and we help you find a pre perky fitting bra. It's fun grin.

Pre perky? confused. Unfortunate typo. Should have been 'perfectly'

happyyonisleepyyoni Thu 27-Jun-13 13:48:42

Ehric you don't wear bras on your crotch do you, sweaty or otherwise.

Happy yoni I was responding to op's query about changing tights every day. A the end of a day's wear tights are likely to have a whiff of eau de sweaty yoni, no?

I wear bras for 2 days max before washing them- I do them on a 30 wash in a bra laundry bag. If I'm going to be cleaning or doing the garden I change into an old bra that can go in the wash straight after- don't want to wear a sweaty one again, or a bra full of bits of twig.

Pants- change every day, change again after swimming or a shower. Socks. tights every day. And seam-free pants are the way forward for bulge-avoidance.

i wash mine after 2-4 wears on average. in the washing machine, 30 degrees with 'delicate' setting (or shoved in with the rest of my washing but tucked inside a protective pillowcase if feeling lazy). i'm quite lucky because my size often crops up on ebay sales so i have quite a few lovely m&s outlet bargains to rotate!

Everything clean daily I.could.never wear dirty bras on a clean body !!! All my bras go in the machine and the dryer

MerryOnMerlot Thu 27-Jun-13 20:38:28

Give them a sniff - that'll tell whether they need washed or not. grin

I usually wear 2 per week and wash both every week, except sports bras when at the gym, which get washed every time/second time.

I machine wash but don't tumble dry. I re-shape them then hang on a clothes horse and they survive fine.

grumpalumpgrumped Thu 27-Jun-13 21:09:27

rubberbullets you wear bras to bed?? Am I supposed to do this??

spangledboots Thu 27-Jun-13 21:26:57

I tend to put my bra in the laundry basket if I've been wearing it all day. If I've just put one on to pop to the shops at the weekend, I'll maybe wear it one more time before it goes in the wash.

I wouldn't wear tights more than once and I err...always wear pants underneath them!

I do a delicates wash for my underwear and tights around once a week.

I only started wearing them to bed once I became pregnant. My boobs became too sensitive and I can't bear the feel of the quilt rubbing against them. Only way to be comfortable is by wearing a bra. Nearly 2 years later I still have to

I'm in a hot, sweaty climate so I do have to change and wash bras daily. If that's not an issue for you and you're not particularly sweaty under the arms, do whatever works for you.
