to go to bed at 10pm when I am a fully grown adult

in good health atm, who will not have to get up before 7am?

Just seems incredibly childish to me. Bed at 10am is for people who have to get up early or who will have to deal with babies during the night.

10am is way to early for a perfectly healthy fully functioning grown up. Isn't it?

PrincessOfChina Sun 23-Jun-13 22:05:30

10pm is my usual "bedtime". By the time I've finished tidying, in the bathroom and read for a while though it's unusual for me to be asleep before 11pm.

McNewPants2013 Sun 23-Jun-13 22:05:36

You are an adult and can go to bed when you want

grobagsforever Sun 23-Jun-13 22:06:06

Do you need nine hours? My mate does.

Trills Sun 23-Jun-13 22:06:45

One of the perks of being a fully grown adult who runs their own life is that you get to choose when to go to bed.

squeakytoy Sun 23-Jun-13 22:06:47

Adults usually know how much sleep they need and are able to go to bed when they choose.

If you feel like going to bed at 10pm go... its up to you!

MogTheForgetfulCat Sun 23-Jun-13 22:07:02

Nah - 10pm is fine. I always go later and almost always regret it as could have done with an extra hour or two. Go when you like!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe Sun 23-Jun-13 22:07:09

Why not? I go to bed when I'm tired. Some days I work long hours and am in bed by 8pm. Sweet dreams. smile

Trills Sun 23-Jun-13 22:07:12

Also are you aware that you kept writing 10 am there? smile

Mintyy Sun 23-Jun-13 22:07:56

Aarrgghh. Obviously I mean 10pm not 10am in my op! I am so tired I can't think straight!

HooverFairy Sun 23-Jun-13 22:08:05

10pm sounds reasonable to me! And I'm a healthy adult, my baby sleeps through and I don't have to be up until 7am when he wakes up. Tonight is a late one for me, it's 10.08pm according to my laptop!

ShowOfHands Sun 23-Jun-13 22:08:09

10am is excessively early, yes.

Sirzy Sun 23-Jun-13 22:08:14

I normally go to bed around 10pm, and aim to be asleep by 11. If I am tired I go earlier.

What's the point in staying up when your tired if you don't need to?

badguider Sun 23-Jun-13 22:08:20

I often go at 10. It's perfectly fine so long as you are able to stay up later for social events when necessary.

whois Sun 23-Jun-13 22:08:23

It's pretty early, but when my DP is away I always sneak to bed super early, I love going to bed!

FatherSpodoKomodo Sun 23-Jun-13 22:08:49

10pm is my usual bedtime - I'm about to go (when I can tear myself away from MN)

One night recently I was so knackered I went to bed at 6.20pm. I obviously needed it as I slept through to 8am!

Being an adult means you can stay up all night if you want or go to bed really early. So do what you want!

CambridgeBlue Sun 23-Jun-13 22:08:54

Assuming you don't go to sleep at 10 but at say 11 then by getting up at 7 you're having the standard 8 hours sleep. Those are about he hours I keep and I struggle to manage on any less sleep - really not sure how I did it when DD was young or I used to go partying until the small hours! I think some people just need more sleep although I do envy friends who can sit up until late and still feel fine next morning, I could do with a few more hours in the day!

HooverFairy Sun 23-Jun-13 22:08:57

Yeah, the AM thing alone should tell you that you need sleep, go to bed!

squeakytoy Sun 23-Jun-13 22:09:15

You are tired, so go to bed!!! Some nights I go to bed at 9pm and get up at 8am... some nights I go to bed at 3am and get up at 8am... just depends on what I am doing, where I am, and how tired I feel.

Irishchic Sun 23-Jun-13 22:09:21

I do this too! I feel ridiculous as well. I love to be in bed by 10.15 to 10.30 then read for around half an hour, lights out by 11.15 and asleep by 11.30 tops. That way I get 8 hours before getting up at 7.30 for the kids, but another hour would do me nicely. I really think i do need 9 hours.

But NO ONE else I know does this, unless they have to be up at 7am or earlier, or have babies who wake through the night.

I wonder if i am just a bit lazy.....

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey Sun 23-Jun-13 22:10:03

I am actually writing this from my bed! Dh is snoring loudly, I have to be at five so am distracting my self on here until the urge to smother him passes!!

JakeBullet Sun 23-Jun-13 22:11:59

You stay up awake until 10pm?

<impressed ...and tiredcos it is past my bedtime>

Apileofballyhoo Sun 23-Jun-13 22:12:00

Regularly asleep by 10. Why sit up being tired when can have lovely sleep and be in better form and more productive the following day?

BellaVita Sun 23-Jun-13 22:12:53

I go before 10pm sometimes.

Tomorrow I will be up at 7am, I am going to bed now.

I love my bed!

marriedinwhiteagain Sun 23-Jun-13 22:13:20

I am often in bed at 9.45 but often up at 5ish. Getting old see. If I put the telly on I ca be asleep before 10 and then DH harumphs about wasted leccy when he comes up.

hugoagogo Sun 23-Jun-13 22:14:49

10 pm is my usual bedtime, I am only up now because we have been to the pub, will be toddling up soon.

I quite often go earlier, I don't think it's childish, I need my sleep.

Coconutty Sun 23-Jun-13 22:17:29

That's my usual bedtime tbh.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman Sun 23-Jun-13 22:18:03

I go to bed at 10am on a fairly regular basis (I then get up at 5pm and leave for work at 8.30pm). Tonight I'm in bed by 10pm so I can get up for 6am.

Weener Sun 23-Jun-13 22:19:46

10pm is fine to go to bed. I love going to bed early! I basically love being asleep grin

livinginwonderland Sun 23-Jun-13 22:20:12

I aim to be in bed by 10 normally because DP has to be up at 6 and his alarm wakes me up. I like my sleep!

BIWI Sun 23-Jun-13 22:20:18

YANBU at all. But is someone telling you that you are?

Grignard Sun 23-Jun-13 22:23:03

No? I often go to bed before 10 pm - so does DH. I'm obviously having a rare late grown-up night tonight though...

Goldrill Sun 23-Jun-13 22:36:26

Ohhhh. DD is 8 months old and not yet got the hang of sleeping anywhere but next to me. I long for the day I can go to bed at ten and read for an hour, preferably with the promise I won't be woken up again before 7.
God, there might even be nooky one day!

Samu2 Sun 23-Jun-13 22:43:33

I go around more like 11.30pm before I am actually laying down to go to sleep.

I cherish my evenings, I get 2 hours without any children and feel like it's a waste going to bed.

I am always tired though and probably should go to sleep earlier.

lustybusty Sun 23-Jun-13 22:47:15

Nope, YADNBU. My alarm goes off at 6. Some nights I go out stay up till 1ish, others I'm in bed by 8:30-9ish. I rarely sleep before 11, but I love my horrifically expensive bed, so if I've just changed the sheets and there's a good book/programme on tv, I'll go to bed super early... I love being a grown up! grin

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee Sun 23-Jun-13 22:50:31

No, it's not childish to go to bed at 10pm - why do you ask?

zoobaby Sun 23-Jun-13 23:00:59

Oh how I truly lament the loss of my 10pm bedtime and 7am wake-up! I can only hope that DS conforms one day grin

Pancakeflipper Sun 23-Jun-13 23:09:49

If DP is working away on a Mon or Tues, I go to bed at 9pm. It's lovely. Bed, my book and the cat.

Last Sunday I went to bed at 9.30pm, but this was a combinatiion of having had a late party night the night before and also expecting the electric meter to run out any minute. I am generally a night person who would much rather stay up till 2am and get up around 9.30, so most nights I go to bed around midnight because I have to get up at 7.40.

MrsPnut Sun 23-Jun-13 23:19:02

10pm is our usual bed time, but we do get up at 6 during the week. I am well known for having at least one night a week where I go to bed at about 7pm. I don't go straight to sleep but like to be up there with my stuff around me chilling out.
