To expect better of Al Pacino?

You are Al Pacino for God's sake, why are you starring in tragically unfunny ads for Sky Broadband? I'd expect this of Bruce Willis, but Al I never once dreamt that you would disappoint me in this way. Do you really need the cash that much?

You were in The Godfather, you were in Serpico, you were in Dog Day Afternoon. Well, after this debacle you are now in disgrace.

Now get out of my sight.

LondonBus Sun 16-Jun-13 18:23:21

I always wonder how much they get paid.

Elton John in a Post Office ad? What was that about? Surely not the money!? hmm

wamabama Sun 16-Jun-13 18:29:24

I think he's having a breakdown. No, seriously. Jack and Jill was when I first thought it and now he's doing adverts! He clearly doesn't need the cash so...

pillow1999 Sun 16-Jun-13 18:36:36

I was stunned and dismayed.

Mrsrobertduvall Sun 16-Jun-13 18:40:10

I was shocked too.
Would Michael Corleone do this?
I think not.

However I do think the one with Bruce Willia is quite funny as I like the girl

VitoCorleone Sun 16-Jun-13 18:47:23

I havent seen the ad, but seriously? Al Pacino is too cool for that shit, he was Scarface FFS and Michael Corleone, from the greatest film EVER

squoosh Sun 16-Jun-13 18:51:14

Vito with your name I think it's best if you don't subject yourself to the horror of this ad. You'd want to bring him out to the middle of a lake.

AnyFucker Sun 16-Jun-13 18:51:53

Those mortgage and/or alimony payments must be cutting deep

Mintyy Sun 16-Jun-13 18:54:32

Yeah. Like Sting in an advert for Jaguar cars. Never forgotten, never forgiven.

I suppose it seems mild in comparison to David Beckham pimping himself out for anything.

Mrsrobertduvall Sun 16-Jun-13 18:57:08

Me and Vito like the same film.
You wouldn't catch Mr RD doing that (at least I hope not)

I had to ask df who it was because i just could not believe al would sink so low <shakes head> i'm not even a fan or whatever but he is a megastar a hollywood legend and yet there he is, advertising sky sad what annoys me too is that in jack and jill there were skits about him 'selling out' ...

squoosh Sun 16-Jun-13 19:07:06

What would Tom Hagen think MrsRobertDuvall?

Bobyan Sun 16-Jun-13 19:12:47

What about Antonio Bandaras flogging chewing gum?!?

antonios poor face in that ad - surgery and or really bad make up he looks awful, he's another who should know better. He was in desperado ffs sad i wish i could shake these damn stars.

BOF Sun 16-Jun-13 19:23:39

I think his quality control chip has been wonky for some time now. I saw a fairly recent film which paired him and DeNiro, fgs (not Heat), and it was utter BILGE. Really really crap.

KatyTheCleaningLady Sun 16-Jun-13 19:23:58

American A-list movie stars will only do ads overseas. For Brad Pitt to do Chanel is fine and dandy, here, but in the US it would make him look sort of cheap and desperate.

I think the Bruce Willis ad is funny!

KatyTheCleaningLady Sun 16-Jun-13 19:25:39

I think the reason they'll do them is they pay very, very well. Like, they may get 20 million for a movie that takes six months of filming in some boring/uncomfortable location, but an advert takes a day and will pay a million or two. Quick, easy money. Can't say I blame them!

But, yeah, Pacino has gone off the rails. I think he's chewed so much scenery the lead paint has started to affect his mind.

Mrsrobertduvall Sun 16-Jun-13 19:27:03

Well exactly * grin

Tom would organise a horse's head for mr apacino

Bobyan Sun 16-Jun-13 19:27:35

I also like the Bruce Willis one, but as someone has already said I think it's because of the girl in it.

I really hated the Nicole Kidman chanel advert and the Scarlett Johansson one as well.

Mrsrobertduvall Sun 16-Jun-13 19:27:40

That was a crap post.
Should have said exactly squoosh

Kooza Sun 16-Jun-13 19:31:13

I read somewhere that the reason Kevin Bacon is everywhere at the moment is that he lost STACKS of money with Madoff.

That Dior advert with Charleze Theron really gets on my nerves for some reason. Most perfume ads are just baffling and ludicrous!

TSSDNCOP Sun 16-Jun-13 19:32:10

A 30 second ad for Al, vs the trilogy of nightmare that is Meet The Fockers for RdeN.

I'd take the 30 seconds.

AnyFucker Sun 16-Jun-13 19:33:18

The Bruce Willis ad is fucking awful

he curls his finger at some gormless wench and off she goes, gurning away

LifeofPo Sun 16-Jun-13 19:34:43

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

BegoniaBampot Sun 16-Jun-13 19:39:45

Pacino has been disappointing for a VERY long time. Loved him in Dog Day, Serpico and The Godfather - no he just overacts and SHOUTS a lot.

squoosh Sun 16-Jun-13 19:42:44

I'll never forget the horror that was The Devil's Advocate.

Mrsrobertduvall Sun 16-Jun-13 19:44:01

He is also very short.

Earnshaw Sun 16-Jun-13 19:47:42

I love it that we're using Michael Corleone and Tom Hagen as our moral compasses grin

SnookyPooky Sun 16-Jun-13 19:51:55

I love the one with Bruce Willis, God I would dump my job and go with him too.
Just saw the back end of the Al Pacino ad. Yikes.

Southeastdweller Sun 16-Jun-13 20:03:56

For the same reason he did an interview and Q&A in London recently where tickets sold for between £60 - £250: alimony. His ex had their kids in 2001.

AnyFucker Sun 16-Jun-13 20:04:29

You would seriously dump your job and go with The Bald One at the crook of his finger ?

really ? hmm

Bue Sun 16-Jun-13 20:12:28

He's also starring in a made for TV movie about Phil Spector with... Helen Mirren! Surely they're not so old and washed up that they have to stoop to this level to get a part?

KatyTheCleaningLady Sun 16-Jun-13 20:16:18

AnyFucker I would! But, then, I clean toilets for a living.

Picoo Sun 16-Jun-13 20:21:40

Pierce Brosnan is doing the Sky ads for the Irish market. Obviously the Bond films didn't pay enough!

Lighthousekeeping Sun 16-Jun-13 20:26:57

It'll be Meryl Streep advertising Tena pads next.

squoosh Sun 16-Jun-13 20:34:25

Thank God Sir John Gielgud is dead, he'd probably be flogging Fray Bentos pies.

Sorry Sir John, I know you wouldn't.

Mintyy Sun 16-Jun-13 20:37:10

Amazing that so many people find avarice attractive!

If you have earned £20 million over a few years doing three movies, then there is no reason on this planet why you need to ginger up a quick extra million doing an advert over a few days.

Unless you are excessively greedy.

SwedishEdith Sun 16-Jun-13 20:52:01

Not seen it but I instantly start to hate anyone who does a Sky advert. The worst offenders are the unbearably smug Ruth Jones and Robert Lindsay. Why on earth do they do it?

JazzDalek Sun 16-Jun-13 20:52:35

So it WAS him! Saw this ad today and thought it looked like Al Pacino but decided he wouldn't stoop so low and it must just be someone that looked like him!

redlac Sun 16-Jun-13 21:03:08

Oh god, I'm only going to watch BBC from now on so as to not taint my love for Al Pacino. sad

Admittedly he has been in some utter tripe films however I like to forget about them and remember the good ones

Lighthousekeeping Sun 16-Jun-13 21:19:42

His eyes still have it smile. Even if his jowls are on the floor.

ARealDame Sun 16-Jun-13 22:28:45

Well, I have never liked Al Pacino, at all, not a bit! I have never liked him as an actor in anything (except very briefly in The Godfather I suddenly remember). I mean, he was just all I'm an Italian-in-a-leather-jacket so give me a role! Scarface was a bit of a unintentional joke all-round.

And I love other American actors like De Niro or Brando etc.

Bruce Willis, never liked him either.

I don't like the Sky adverts, but then I hate Sky as a company.

<tries to think of something I like. Oh yeah, roses are amazing>.

Bobyan Sun 16-Jun-13 23:08:41

I was actually disappointed by Ant and Dec's Morrisons advert.
Apparently their net worth is £62m. Why the fuck are they advertising a supermarket?!?

ClartyCarol Sun 16-Jun-13 23:14:55

Snigger at Meryl Streep doing Tena Ladies.

SarahAndFuck Mon 17-Jun-13 00:30:17

Will it be part of Ant and Dec's contract because Morrisons sponsored BGT do you think Bobyan?

NutcrackerFairy Mon 17-Jun-13 07:59:19

I'm with Anyfucker on the Bruce Willis Sky ad.

For me, that idiot girl is the worst thing in it.

Her gurning is the pits.

And Bruce Willis in his dressing gown "saving lives on a daily basis" or whatever that line is, god he's lame.

But the girl with her dribbling and the biting of her lower lip, then mouthing "BRUCE WILLIS!!!".

Primrose123 Mon 17-Jun-13 08:21:25

I'm sure Pierce Brosnan is in Spar ads in Austria, speaking German too!

Geez, times are hard, you are berating the man for doing a days honest work. ...

Maybe he likes doing ad work?

Double standards much?

Look, if Yoda can stoop to Vodafone ads, Pacino doing Sky was inevitable. Yoda is a Jedi Master for fucks sake and lives in a swamp so can't be doing it for the money.

<maybe, just maybe, I am confusing fantasy and RL here>

SnookyPooky Wed 19-Jun-13 20:39:07

Damn right I would for Bruce Willis.....

LeGavrOrf Wed 19-Jun-13 20:42:32

Genuinely laughed at 'now get out of my sight'

For some reason I am more annoyed by Julie Walters doing the VoiceOver for those ghastly lloyds bank adverts.

Al Pacino was so wonderful in the Godfather. His FACE at the end if the second one. Poor fredo.

LeGavrOrf Wed 19-Jun-13 20:45:33

What else has BruceWillis starred in that has been successful?

It's not just based on Die Hard and Moonlighting is it?

I do love Die Hard though, if only so I can walk around saying 'get me ze detonators' and pretend to be Holly Genarro punching the news man for a few days. That is the best Film punch ever.

bigbuttons Wed 19-Jun-13 20:46:38

I saw the Pacino ad yesterday . I gave him a good looking at, decided that it couldn't possibly be Pacino as he was far too 'up there' to do a poxy ad, and it must be someone else who sort of looks like him but who I don't recognise, or something.
Honestly it's only after seeing this thread that I realise that it WAS himshock
