Lweji Mon 20-May-13 15:50:54

TheVermiciousKnid Mon 20-May-13 15:51:09

Weddings. Bloody weddings.

cat Mon 20-May-13 15:52:45

Parents who put FB status' about dreading the summer holidays vs the horrified super mummies who can't wait to spend 24/7 with their darlings for 6 weeks

scaevola Mon 20-May-13 15:56:04

We've had naked toddlers on the beach already, and a sunscreen one. But I've not seen a crocs thread yet. And has there been competitive v non-competitive sports day" or "FFS it's only a parents race"

And then there's grade inflation to look forward to at the end of August (though might that look different this year?)

usualsuspect Mon 20-May-13 15:59:16

Bikinis for little girls and next doors bbq will make an appearance any time soon.

TheVermiciousKnid Mon 20-May-13 15:59:59

Inconsidertate neighbours who light bonfires / BBQs
Fussy neighbours who complain about bonfires / BBQs

TheVermiciousKnid Mon 20-May-13 16:02:00

Inconsiderate even. hmm

usualsuspect Mon 20-May-13 16:04:20

Men walking around with their tops off is debated every year.

LadyBeagleEyes Mon 20-May-13 16:05:31

It's too hot, too wet, too cold.
Wimbledon, and people that hate Andy Murray because he once said something which I've clean forgotten.
Last year was fab as we had the Olympics with Mumsnet moaning about it for months before (not me though, I love the Olympics) then everybody coming round and loving them too.

usualsuspect Mon 20-May-13 16:07:28

We had the queens jubilee to love or hate last year too.

ouryve Mon 20-May-13 16:07:53

Late night parties in the garden.
Queues at attractions.

wibblyjelly Mon 20-May-13 16:10:07

More parking threads, as people invite friends and family over for BBQ's? I've not been here for a MN summer, I'm quite excited!

Yes, and this year we will have Wills and Kate's baby - there will be decate on taxpayers money going to pay for the baby's upkeep, and debate on what a brilliant/awful name they have chosen....

Debate, not decate!

usualsuspect Mon 20-May-13 16:12:53

Holidays with in laws angst threads.

CaramelLatte Mon 20-May-13 16:19:06

Oh I am so looking forward to summer now- my first one on MN smile.

CherylTrole Mon 20-May-13 16:21:15

Where to go on holibobs the class wars, Uk caravan holibobs or Dubai 5* holibobs? You decide?

Bowlersarm Mon 20-May-13 16:23:58

Exam results!

Did very well, so very very happy.

Oh no! So unlucky, was ill, wrong questions came up, it was too hot, it was too cold. What happens now?

CherylTrole Mon 20-May-13 16:33:12

Is my neighbour BU for having a noisy BBQ til 4 in the morning ?
What will I buy my DH for Fathers Day?/ Oh shit I forgot its Fathers Day!
Not forgetting Big Brother of course!

TheVermiciousKnid Mon 20-May-13 16:33:52

The word 'holibobs'!

usualsuspect Mon 20-May-13 16:35:04

Smokers wafting their smoke around in childrens play areas in the park.

usualsuspect Mon 20-May-13 16:36:05

Children running up slides and hogging the swings.

D0oinMeCleanin Mon 20-May-13 16:37:03

The anti dog threads always pop up over summer, people finally venture out to their local park/beach and then start getting all huffy because the local dog walkers who have been there all year round have the audacity to let their dog look in the general direction of their PFB.

And the dog walkers get all huffy that their usually clean parks/beaches are now over run with the left overs of people's picnics.

LadyBeagleEyes Mon 20-May-13 16:38:55

Or people having a fag in their garden when the Op's children are playing outside Usual, which obviously wafts into the barbecue smoke, but it's still vile.
<Vile is my very favourite outraged MN word>

MAXI DRESSES

TheOriginalSteamingNit Mon 20-May-13 16:42:33

dd got all level 12 on her year 7 report, is that good or not? And is there anything I can do to support her, if it turns out that it is good. Which I don't know. Apparently.

usualsuspect Mon 20-May-13 16:42:45

Or people having a fag outside a cafe or in a beer garden gets the smoking police all riled up.

gordyslovesheep Mon 20-May-13 16:44:03

Yay ...lots to look forward to grin I have an almost 9 year old who likes to be naked ...ill love that one!

IfNotNowThenWhen Mon 20-May-13 16:45:52

Hey, doinmecleanin, I walk thru the park and scowl at dogs all year round! Bloody dogs. (runs away)

pollywollydoodle Mon 20-May-13 16:48:04

why can't teachers apply screen?
Dog crap in the park = bad
Crocs : does comfiness cancel out fugliness

ipswitch Mon 20-May-13 16:51:57

Should I spend a million pounds letting my DD look like a tramp for her school prom?

Buzzardbird Mon 20-May-13 17:05:06

Are capsule holiday clothes just for smelly people?

pollywollydoodle Mon 20-May-13 17:05:47

proms ...blardy American idea...why?

Is fake tan/a helicopter necessary for junior prom ?

Hay fever ...should we move exams to a different time of year ?

stillfeel18inside Mon 20-May-13 17:35:25

What about the royal baby? Hate/love the name Diana/Philip. And why doesn't Kate feel she can bf in public ffs?

MrsMcEnroe Mon 20-May-13 17:42:19

I know they are not confined to the summer months, but I'm expecting a slew of threads about the unreasonableness of head teachers for not signing consent forms for holidays to be taken during the last week of term ....

And, if we get even one day of hot weather, there will be someone moaning on here about how they hate the heat.

There will also be plenty of threads about not wanting to go on a caravan holiday with MIL ...

I remember a thread from a few years ago where someone asked if she WBU to collect her DCs from school whilst wearing her bikini. She had a pool in her back garden iirc. Turned out she meant that she'd be wearing her clothes on top of the bikini, but most people assumed she meant that she'd turn up in a bikini and flip flops and nothing else ....

SirChenjin Mon 20-May-13 17:45:18

Frizzy hair

A messy house with the youngest in and out all day long

No money, the result of increased childcare costs

2 teenagers lounging about the house alternating between being bored and needing money for their wild social lives

Some rain, a bit more rain, and a bit more rain on top of that

Frizzy hair

SirChenjin Mon 20-May-13 17:48:22

Oops, just realised that I've missed the whole point of this thread blush

I only found Mumsnet at Christmas and enjoyed all the Christmas angst. I joined specifically to comment on Shinyballsandtinsel's thread on her dreadfully behaved neices/nephews. I am still desperate to find out how things are there!
I look forward to a happy summer.
not really on my fifth name change in an attempt to maintain anonymity

scaevola Mon 20-May-13 18:01:12

What can I get the teacher for end of year present that isn't a scented candle

WilsonFrickett Mon 20-May-13 18:07:13

Year end collections for teachers - there's a thread about that already!

Starting school for the first time - AIBU to miss the precious moments when it was just me and DC?

And of course, as has already been mentioned - why oh why oh why would someone post on fb that they're fed up with the holiday when I love every second of the holibobs spending time with my precious ickle ones doing the fingerpainting and wafting? Hmmm?

HoneyStepMummy Mon 20-May-13 18:09:06

Lots of debates over end of school gifts for teachers. Someone will be insistant that teachers love to fill their home with home made crap, and another will be just as insistant that they don't. Then someone else will complain that "you are lucky to be able to afford pipecleaners to make tat with/a home/a child that goes to school".

Very very longwinded wine fueled threads about camping holibobs drama that always involve SILs and BILS.

Fights with MIL at family BBQs.

WilsonFrickett Mon 20-May-13 18:12:46

Oh, last year there was one from a single MNer who was on holidays with her kids and debating popping next door for a spot of 'cultural exchange' with an equally single dad. I LOVED that thread. But I think I went on holiday and didn't find out how it ended.

everlong Mon 20-May-13 18:19:22

Drunken bbq's hopefully wink

decaffwithcream Mon 20-May-13 19:06:42

Nothing has ever matched the heights of the woman on the AIBU supersoaker last-day-of-term thread.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/569630-super-soaker-etiquette-at-parties/AllOnOnePage

MrsMcEnroe Mon 20-May-13 19:50:35

I've just read that thread decaff, thank you - 'twas hilarious

MrsMcEnroe Mon 20-May-13 19:51:56

Ooh I want to know if the single MNer had a holiday romance with the chap next door...!! And I want to know what happened next!

I still want to know what happened in Shinyballs's family, there really should be an updates forum.

decaffwithcream Mon 20-May-13 19:57:41

It's the most unanimous AIBU ever, and the most persistent OP. I love the way everyone gets gradually more and more riled up trying to explain YABU!

SoniaGluck Mon 20-May-13 20:00:40

I remember that thread Wilson. I don't think that I read to the end, though, because I can't remember the outcome.

You know, sometimes, my being on MN reminds me that I am just like my auntie twitching her curtains to spy her neighbours - only on an epic scale. shock

Maryz Mon 20-May-13 20:14:34

I can't understand how a 6-week summer holiday can be too long.

Fair enough if you are working, but there are numerous threads by SAHM's desperate to find "activities" to do with their children.

Here summer holidays are 10 weeks (13 for teenagers) and they are never long enough. Despite the fucking endless rain.

IamtheZombie Mon 20-May-13 21:00:48

The "We're due to leave on our holiday in 4 days and I've just realised my passport has expired" threads. There will be lots of those.

MrsMcEnroe Mon 20-May-13 21:13:38

And the "we're due to get on a plane tomorrow and my DC has chickenpox and is contagious but we can still go can't we?" threads...

Maryz Mon 20-May-13 21:39:22

Have we started the "what shall I buy as a present for my pfb's teacher? A small Caribbean island or a gold ingot?" threads?

LadyBeagleEyes Mon 20-May-13 21:54:01

Zombie Yes.
I never ever get people that leave their passport till the last minute.
Surely that is the very first thing you arrange before you even book?
And that's from someone that is the most disorganised person in the world.

Moaning about things to do with holidays abroad not jealous at all as well as general summer clothes and probably how independent you should let your DC be.

Maryz Mon 20-May-13 22:18:16

This has just reminded me that my driving licence is out of date and I need it for my holidays ..........

decaffwithcream Tue 21-May-13 11:23:42

And the "my children want to camp in the garden alone/ can I leave my child asleep in the hotel room if we are in the restaurant with a baby monitor" threads which become heated and do not end well.

CambridgeBlue Tue 21-May-13 11:27:49

White linen trousers and holiday wardrobes.

MomsNetCurtains Tue 21-May-13 11:31:08

My hair has been very frizzy today and yesterday btw, in case anyone is interested.
