AIBU to think eggy bread, bacon and beans is a perfectly reasonable tea for a Friday night?

My mother thinks I'm trying to poison my dcs I think

Surely as an occasional meal about 4 times a year it's not that bad?

yaimee Fri 10-May-13 20:29:59

Yanbu!
Is it all finished or can I come round for left overs? smile

StuntGirl Fri 10-May-13 20:30:00

Sounds like a good meal any day of the week grin

Can I have tinned spagetti with mine instead of beans and what time should I be there? The only reason DD doesn't get food like that is because I refuse to share eggy bread

ilovexmastime Fri 10-May-13 20:30:24

I can't see anything wrong with it. What's wrong with your mother?! wink

DawnOfTheDee Fri 10-May-13 20:30:45

That sounds yummy smile

Fairylea Fri 10-May-13 20:31:30

What's wrong with that?? It's got protein, vegetables, carbohydrate....! All fine smile

We sometimes have pancakes for dinner... now that IS bad smile

INeedThatForkOff Fri 10-May-13 20:31:44

Sounds great.

Just as an aside, my cousin's 'D'H has mortally offended my aunt, his MIL, by complaining that her delicious food - lasagnes, cottage pies, casseroles, cauliflower and mushroom cheese - is crappy student food. He is a twat.

MrsPresley Fri 10-May-13 20:32:18

YABU, beans should never be on the same plate as any other food, except a baked tattie!

AllYoursBabooshka Fri 10-May-13 20:33:07

Oh God yes, I want exactly that... Right now. Yanbu.

I have no eggs and no bacon though.

<weeps>

YANBU Sounds yummy, I fancy making that myself!!

Floggingmolly Fri 10-May-13 20:34:52

It sounds delicious. Didn't your mum ever give you anything like that?

KitNCaboodle Fri 10-May-13 20:35:58

Mmm, eggy bread. YANBU

OldRichandGrateful Fri 10-May-13 20:36:22

Sounds lush.

Two portions over here please - with a cup of tea- two sugars!!

chickensaladagain Fri 10-May-13 20:36:29

My mother thinks if there aren't 3 veg and 'proper' meat on a plate, then it isn't a proper meal

Pasta is really quite scandalous!

stealthsquiggle Fri 10-May-13 20:37:15

I want that now. Do you think DH would mind if I rejected the meal he has just cooked and demanded that instead grin?

Floggingmolly Fri 10-May-13 20:37:42

Student food, INeedThatFork???? On what planet? On this one student food is Pot Noodle and kebabs.

It sounds perfect!

ShadeofViolet Fri 10-May-13 20:40:31

What is eggy bread?

CombineBananaFister Fri 10-May-13 20:41:26

YABU-you've given me dinner envy envy.

Think people are too hung up on mealtimes and type in general especially when you look at other cultures and what they eat throughout the day -each to their own I say,no more food rules!

AllYoursBabooshka Fri 10-May-13 20:42:01

It's what Heaven is made of.

Jinty64 Fri 10-May-13 20:43:08

No, no, no. Eggy bread and bacon should be served with fried tomatoes. Beans is just wrong!

hugoagogo Fri 10-May-13 20:44:17

eggy bread=eggy toast I think.

No bacon for me please.

TigerSwallowTail Fri 10-May-13 20:44:39

Eggy bread? Is that French toast?

SybilRamkin Fri 10-May-13 20:45:37

shock at ShadeofViolet! It's bread dipped in beaten egg then fried in a pan till crispy and golden and delicious...

It's sometimes called French toast, and the French call it Pain Perdu ("lost bread" because it's usually made with stale bread).

MrsKoala Fri 10-May-13 20:45:39

Well I wouldn't have it for dinner. I would only have that for breakfast. But sometimes when everyone is out i have a packet of biscuits and 2 cups of tea (one to dunk, one to drink) for my dinner smile So just have what you want!

Shades it's bread (has to be thick, white bread) dipped in beaten egg then fried both sides.
Tis Yummy.

BTW OP I'd substitute the bacon for vegetarian bacon and you've got a deal.
DD would demolish that with the beans. grin

SisterMatic Fri 10-May-13 20:47:55

Eggy bread!! I am going to make that tomorrow.

MooseBeTimeForSpring Fri 10-May-13 20:51:47

Got any brown sauce?

AuntLucyInPeru Fri 10-May-13 20:51:50

I never said this but .... Spoonful of sugar dissolved in the beaten egg. Died and gone to heaven.

chickensaladagain Fri 10-May-13 20:54:15

Posh eggy bread for breakfast

Brioche!!!

Mmmmm

Moomoomie Fri 10-May-13 20:55:21

Eggy bread, fresh berries and honey. Delicious.

youmeatsix Fri 10-May-13 21:02:29

cook 2 slices on 1 side, flip one, place on grated cheese onto the cooked side, put the other slice, cooked slice down onto the cheese, cook on both sides, cheesy dreams, magnificent!

EverythingInMjiniature Fri 10-May-13 21:06:38

omg eggy bread!! makes me think of sunday tea circa 1995. So YANBU.

mawbroon Fri 10-May-13 21:16:55

No, no to savoury French toast! Sugar and lemon juice all the way smile

Yanbu, of course.

But I really came on to ask MrsK exactly how old she was when she worked out she could use two cups of tea to make biscuit dunking perfect. It's so, I don't know, grown up.

Giggle78 Fri 10-May-13 21:23:11

YANBU
That's what we had tonight. I thought it was a good dinner.

Yanbu! We have that, without the bacon nearly every Monday night.

Sometimes I go rogue and do scrambled egg with fried bread.

SmellsLikeTeenStrop Fri 10-May-13 22:03:18

I want some eggy bread now, but I have no eggs sad

Wolfcub Fri 10-May-13 22:04:37

I could eat that now

stealthsquiggle Fri 10-May-13 22:08:40

We have eggs (thank you chooks) but no decent bread, stale or otherwise sad

gordyslovesheep Fri 10-May-13 22:09:31

oh I bloody LOVE eggy bread ...with cheese !

idiot55 Fri 10-May-13 22:16:15

tonight I went food shopping and bought eegs , thick white bread, bacon and sausages for tomorrows tea.

PoppyWearer Fri 10-May-13 22:17:42

Yuuuuuum eggy bread!

If my DCs would eat it, it would be a staple of our tea time menu.

<glares at DCs>

gordyslovesheep Fri 10-May-13 22:21:40

<Joins poppy glaring at her equally unreasonable kids with no taste in food>

MrsKoala Fri 10-May-13 23:41:28

grin TheSurgeons - Actually i discovered it at about 14yo after too many biscuit dropping disasters, and then realisation that, when you dunk 2 packs of hazelnut maryland cookies in your tea, there is no tea left to drink < shock at thinking oh yummy now i'll drink my lovely tea and then the horror of realising the bastarding cookies have 'drunk' it all>.

LeaveTheBastid Fri 10-May-13 23:43:20

Eggy bread, crispy bacon and maple syrup, there's tomorrows breakfast sorted!

So wise at only 14, mrsk!

Dawndonna Sat 11-May-13 12:14:20

Mmmm, eggy bread.
We do a sweet version for pudding sometimes, too.
Dip in egg, then dip in plate of mixed caster sugar/cinnamon, fry. Delicious!

SwishSwoshSwoosh Sat 11-May-13 12:17:03

Bacon is grim any time but the rest sounds just fine.

LadyBeagleEyes Sat 11-May-13 12:21:17

Yy to crispy bacon and maple syrup with a pinch of cinnamon.
The salt and the sweet is delicious together.

Smellslikecatspee Sat 11-May-13 12:34:46

Guess what we're having for brunch? grin

mrsjay Sat 11-May-13 12:42:46

we call it french toast I love it and it is fine and tasty tea for anynight imo grin I like it savoury I cant get my head round people having it with sugar or syrup

Oldraver Sat 11-May-13 12:45:33

Does she think you are supposed to cook on Friday nights, surely most people have something simple fends for themselves

Skelacia Sat 11-May-13 13:32:24

YANBU. That's exactly what my DCs got for dinner last night, it always goes down well and a meal that gets eaten with no arguing always beats one that has to have every forkful negotiated!

bigkidsdidit Sat 11-May-13 13:34:50

lovely smile

why does my eggy bread come out soggy?

thebody Sat 11-May-13 13:37:42

Sounds delicious.

mrsjay Sat 11-May-13 13:38:58

your pan isn't hot enough if it is soggy you need to leave it to cook and not keep turning it, ( i have bitter soggyness experience)

mrsjay Sat 11-May-13 13:39:49

actually one of my favourite dinners is sausage bacon egg and chips oh and beans and tomato and a mushroom I could really go that now

trixymalixy Sat 11-May-13 13:41:29

I would swap the beans for maple syrup, mmmm.

Have nt had eggy bread for ages...

I drooled a little bit just reading your post OP grin
( happiness is knowing you have all the ingredients in the fridge, plus tomatoes, beans and tattie scones)
gringringrin

bigkidsdidit Sat 11-May-13 13:44:00

thanks mrsjay smile

do you put milk in with the egg?

mrsjay Sat 11-May-13 13:47:23

yes just a little bit of milk though

bigkidsdidit Sat 11-May-13 13:50:58

right

am going to have this for dinner tonight now

mrsjay Sat 11-May-13 13:53:07

I have no eggs and I am too hungover tired to walk to the shops and I really fancy it now

wonderingsoul Sat 11-May-13 14:06:47
