I think the owner of A&F is a total prick. Who's with me?

DM link sorry! And sorry if already been done.

aldiwhore Wed 08-May-13 09:32:59

Well the CEO isn't exactly an oil painting is he? !

However, although I'm a size 16 so would probably be banned, I wouldn't want to shop there anyway. If I was a size 10, I probably wouldn't want to shop there either as I'd be in the biggest size they do, which is always depressing. wink

It's up to them what they sell, to whom, in what size although I don't really see it as good business sense.

ImTooHecsyForYourParty Wed 08-May-13 09:34:44

What I find amusing is that the CEO looks like a troll. According to his policy, he shouldn't be working there or wearing the clothes.

Well, if people are stupid enough to pay their silly prices so they can show off a label and call themselves one of the Beautiful People then it's a good job they've got their looks cos they're surely lacking in the brains department.

cantspel Wed 08-May-13 09:37:18

I see no difference with this than Evans who only cater for 16 plus.
A&F are targeting a particular set of buyers that is all.

ImTooHecsyForYourParty Wed 08-May-13 09:39:55

evans start from a 14 and don't tell people they're too ugly to be seen in their clothes.

I think it's not the same. catering for a certain size range is not the same as saying no uggos in our clothes!

pictish Wed 08-May-13 09:41:11

He is very clever.
This article will only increase sales.

kotinka Wed 08-May-13 09:42:18

I thought it was a hoax ad?

Yes, he's a prick. Typical attitude of do as I say, not as I do. He was beaten quite a bit with the ugly stick though. It's his company so he can pretty much do what he likes with it really. I personally wouldn't even look at their clothes, far too boring and square for me. He's shot himself in the foot really though as buy narrowing their target consumer so much they're minimising any profit they make.

Eskino Wed 08-May-13 09:56:09

Haha! He looks like Stretch Armstrong been left out in the sun.

Anyway, I'm reliably informed by my eldest (who is a distance swimmer, with a distance swimmers build) that A&F is incredibly chavvy. grin

Doubtfuldaphne Wed 08-May-13 10:01:27

Love 'Gracie's comment on the article link!
What a lovely girl she must be eh?

BobblyGussets Wed 08-May-13 10:02:04

YABU; he's more of a total bell end than a prick and I've seen better looking bell ends.

Thumbwitch Wed 08-May-13 10:03:33

I'm in total agreement. The guy's a tosser and I hope he doesn't wear his own clothes because he's hardly in his own target demographic.

Not the sort of clothes I'd buy anyway, tbh - bit shit.

Pusspuss1 Wed 08-May-13 10:05:05

Did I not read elsewhere recently that their sales have bombed? Can't think why... When not pregnant (!) I fit into and quite like their clothes, but I find the whole noisy, dark, tryhardy shopping experience so unpleasant that I almost never go.

ItsYonliMe Wed 08-May-13 10:09:42

This is the business that discriminated against a disabled girl working there and I've never forgotten that. My daughter won't shop there because of their arrogance. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1192674/I-banished-stockroom-says-disabled-shop-girl-suing-Abercrombie--Fitch-discrimination.html

ItsYonliMe Wed 08-May-13 10:10:48

They really do sound an obnoxious company to work for.

maddening Wed 08-May-13 10:32:41

What about thin and ugly people - are they allowed in? hmm

Thumbwitch Wed 08-May-13 10:34:52

I'd quite like it if they "do a Ratners", tbh. What a horrible set-up!

My daughter 5 wanted to go into their Paris store on Saturday as it is a pretty impressive building with impressive gold and black gates. I had no idea what it was and as we went through the gates and round a corner there were half naked men standing in the door way it actually came across as some kind of sex shop, I was absolutely disgusted and would not go in even after I noticed the very small sign Abercrombie & Fitch.

YouTheCat Wed 08-May-13 11:27:58

Is this why their shops are so dark? So you can't tell who's ugly?

Overrated shite it is.

Mugofteaforme Wed 08-May-13 11:38:32

Just an acceleration of the "i'm prettier then you so you're worthless" thing thats been around for years. You'll always get parasites that feed off peoples cruelty and arrogance.

EffieTheDuck Wed 08-May-13 11:41:45

Wow! This from the guy who hit every branch of the Ugly Tree!

yanbu He is a prick.

ChaoticTranquility Wed 08-May-13 11:46:52

maddening has beaten me to it. Do they have bouncers on the door to make sure that anyone who doesn't meet their definition of beautiful doesn't get in? hmm

Thumbwitch Wed 08-May-13 11:51:49

I DO see a difference between this and Evans, Long Tall Sally and High 'n' Mighty, other "sizeist" shops mentioned. These shops were set up to cater for people who couldn't find clothes in "normal" shops because their size was bigger than average.
The range in Evans was designed with the bigger woman in mind, not just sized up from the standard size 10 (as it used to be).

This abomination of a store is not catering for a niche market; it's deliberately excluding people who "don't look right". Might as well say that no black people should wear their clothes, it's along the same lines.

Mandy2003 Wed 08-May-13 11:52:25

How about us more generously proportioned MNetters getting together to randomly flashmob branches of A&F!!

iloveweetos Wed 08-May-13 11:55:38

haha i hate going in a&f, its too dark!!!
and gosh hes gross

FreudiansSlipper Wed 08-May-13 12:02:21

those teeth grin

ha ha last laugh is on him as it is seen as trashy clothing now

Chaotic they had bouncers at their Paris store and men greeting you with no tops on, I found the whole thing quite bizarre.

LeBFG Wed 08-May-13 12:28:36

I just can't believe anyone could stand up and say this 'We go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don’t belong [in our clothes], and they can’t belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely.'

That is, in addition to the fact he is ugly, the shops have a disgusting disabilist and racist hiring policy. On the basis of this article I shall make sure my DC never ever buy anything from A&F.

Thumbwitch Wed 08-May-13 12:33:06

It sounds like the clothing is not hitting its target market in the UK anyway? From some of the comments on the DM article, and others here, it's seen as "chavvy" and young teen clothing, so mid-older teens don't want to wear it as it's "little kids' clothing". Fail, A&F. Har har har.

LaGuardia Wed 08-May-13 13:40:08

I took DS in one of the stores don't know how I got my size 16 ass past the doormen and he hated everything he looked at. He thinks it is very overrated, but he hates SuperDry too.

ICBINEG Wed 08-May-13 13:46:13

I remember the disablist business thing from before....will never be crossing the threshold.

As I said on FB about this, "Those companies that are in trouble are trying to target everybody: young, old, fat, skinny. But then you become totally vanilla." And he thinks that marketing to 'attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends' isn't vanilla. He's an idiot, don't give him any head space.
