Cats rule.

thebody Tue 30-Apr-13 18:15:15

Indeed my cats rule the house and all in it but they are worshipped.

JennySense Tue 30-Apr-13 18:15:55

LOl that the difference I suppose - personally I prefer a dog who believes I am a Living God ;)

Samu2 Tue 30-Apr-13 18:19:32

One of mine is. I sometimes feel a bit suffocated by him. He never, ever leaves my side and because he is only 3 pounds he's pretty much always snuggled under my top.

He had a bad start so I tried to make it up to him and went over the top grin he's a lovely little dog, just clingy.

thebody Tue 30-Apr-13 18:19:34

Dogs have owners, cats have staff!

thebody Tue 30-Apr-13 18:20:47

If you feed a dog the dog thinks you are a god.

If you feed a cat the cat knows they are a god.

Sorry!!! Bloody fridge magnets.

whois Tue 30-Apr-13 18:22:17

I can't start how high maintenance they are. Cats totally rule.

tabulahrasa Tue 30-Apr-13 18:22:26

My cat's clingier than the fact she beats up the dog if he comes over to me for a cuddle.

PatPig Tue 30-Apr-13 18:22:41

Fuck cats.

Saski Tue 30-Apr-13 18:25:36

Hate cats, love dogs.

Owning a dog must be like having another child to look after. My magnet says 'Happiness is being owned by a cat' thebody. smile

BlueSkySunnyDay Tue 30-Apr-13 18:27:25

If your neighbour feeds your cat nicer food it will move out. If my neighbour feeds my dog nicer food it will eat it then come home.

I hate cats - strangely because they are needy all that rubbing round your legs, purring and sitting on your knee. If the dog wants attention she will bump my hand with her head - she likes to know where I am but will often lay under the table in another room.

thebody Tue 30-Apr-13 18:27:32

Well I love all animals ESP digs and cats but if you work FT and noone is home then cats are far more Independant.

thebody Tue 30-Apr-13 18:28:07

Love that sparkling.

BlueSkySunnyDay Tue 30-Apr-13 18:28:38

Oh and when the children are being shitty and upset me the dog always comes over to comfort me.

lougle Tue 30-Apr-13 18:28:55

Dogs are needy. Of course they are. They need to be loved as much as they love.

Our dog is currently sleeping on top of DD2's blanket, keeping her company - he's a dog that gives back smile

A dog round here gets left most of the day. It cries. sad Sparkling Cat does not cry if I leave the house.

MardyBra Tue 30-Apr-13 18:44:44

Oh and guinea pigs are a waste of space. wink

I thought Guinea Pigs existed purely as a friend for a rabbit. grin

Cats are ace. Dogs are too :-)

SugarPasteGreyhound Tue 30-Apr-13 18:58:27

Like them both, but there is something so lovely about being welcomed home by your dog. Yes cats are more independent but when you have had a shitty day it's very comforting to be greeted by the dogs, who think I am the greatest thing ever and are always thrilled to see me grin

ilovexmastime Tue 30-Apr-13 19:00:12

Dogs are brilliant. Guinea pigs are ace. Rabbits are cute. Cats are.... ok ;)

EggsMichelle Tue 30-Apr-13 19:01:25

Guineapigs are amazing, so chatty! My dog can't grasp that he weighs 25kg more than the cat, and that's why the cat can sit on my lap and not the dog. However the dog is more Interactive with my DS

BlueSkySunnyDay Tue 30-Apr-13 19:02:23

oh Mardy Bra - there is no hope, you dont like guinea pigs either they are lovely characters. Now tell me you like rabbits (creepy things)

Obviously dogs shouldnt be left for longer than 4 hours so they are more of a tie but they are worth the effort.

cats if they have a flap have the option of popping round to spend the day with a nice local pensioner.

D0oinMeCleanin Tue 30-Apr-13 19:03:39

Dogs are not needy. Bloody guppies are needy, at least when my dog goes to the loo all I need to do is bag and bin it, guppies need you to create and maintain their own living toilet for them and then go and have millions of tiny guppy babies and mess up their living toilet and you have to start cleaning it more.

AngiBolen Tue 30-Apr-13 19:06:45

I looked after someones dog for a week once. It followed me round constantly with big sad eyes. It apparently needed to sleep in my bedroom. It needed regular walks and loads of fuss.

Needy doesn't come near.

BlueSkySunnyDay Tue 30-Apr-13 19:12:59

some dogs are needy - no dogs need to sleep in your bedroom, have constant attention, be fed from your plate - these are problems caused by the owner not training it properly.

Sorry I have to say YABU!

thebody Tue 30-Apr-13 19:21:51

Our younger cat has a fur lined pink basket in our bedroom but usually sleeps between me and dh. So warm and purry( cat not dh)

Both cars have baskets in our sheltered porch with fur lined blankets and in winter ( inside if really cold of course) they have hit water bottles with paw print covers!!!

I am mummy and dh is daddy.

Oh dear oh dear.

That all sounds perfectly reasonable thebody. Sparkling Cat sleeps on our bed, and will often stroke my face, or lick my eyebrows to get a fuss.

thebody Tue 30-Apr-13 19:31:30

Ah sparkling that's so sweet. They are so gorgeous.

OrbisNonSufficit Tue 30-Apr-13 19:32:31

I don't really see the point of cats. Why have a pet that doesn't want to hang out with you and will leave you at some point for someone else who has more/better food?

(I may be biased as cats give me horrible asthma)

toboldlygo Tue 30-Apr-13 19:38:04

My dogs are very, very needy. I like it that way, I don't have DC or any other responsibilities so I can give them all the time they need. We do various dog sports so they're my exercise and social life as well.

Dog #2 is on my feet right now kneading and sucking on a cushion. hmm Special creature.

YoniMeKateMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 30-Apr-13 19:39:32

Dogs are the best <gavel>

(you can tell I really mean it as I am breaking all the rules about Mumsnet parity to post this)

diddl Tue 30-Apr-13 19:42:54

Neither my dog nor my cat need me as much as I need them.

BlueSkySunnyDay Tue 30-Apr-13 19:44:40

anything which stroked my face, or licked my eyebrows to get a fuss in bed would be seriously dicing with danger.....and that includes the children and DH

ChewingOnLifesGristle Tue 30-Apr-13 19:45:25

Dogs are needy. I can't respect a needy petwink.

Cats are bloomin lovely. If they want a cuddle it's because they like you not because they need you. They don't have to love you, but if they do it's great. <wrestles back gavel>grin

I love dogs and some cats. I had a very loving cat- more loving and gentle than the dog. But there is something about a waggy tail and the joyful greeting of a dog that just melts me.

I have had over the years 2 different Lhasa Apsos, and neither have been needy. They were bred to be independant similar to a cat, and when not eating or walking, they curl up like a cat and sleep
Even sits on my lap like a cat and does not lick you like dogs tend to do.

So I have a cat I can take for walks and wags her tail smile

Yes cats are free to leave at any time, so they actually choose to live with you (indoor cats aside).

FoundAChopinLizt Tue 30-Apr-13 19:53:17

He needs exercise, food, water, love and shelter basically.

Compared to my needs he's very straightforward smile

digerd Tue 30-Apr-13 19:54:13

neither has

monsterchild Tue 30-Apr-13 20:22:12

I have a cat who acts like a dog. She's very outgoing and will greet new people as they enter. She's a bit weird...

everlong Tue 30-Apr-13 20:33:51

You obviously don't have a Siamese mardy - the neediest buggers alive.

McNewPants2013 Tue 30-Apr-13 20:38:23

My gerbils are simply the best pet to have.

dog and cat hair would drive me insane, when MIL brings the dog down it takes me an hour to vacuum my carpet.

VenusStarr Tue 30-Apr-13 20:39:47

YANBU grin

digerd Tue 30-Apr-13 20:47:27

grrr independent

austenozzy Tue 30-Apr-13 21:45:46

I have 3 cats and a dog. IMO, dogs are best. None of your cats give a shit whether you live or die (nor mine), as long as you feed them and stroke them on their terms.

Not true of dogs; they're endlessly loyal and don't judge you in any way whatsoever. Your dog would lay down its life to protect you - show me a cat that would even bother to lift its head if you were being attacked!

Admittedly, I could do without mine rolling in fox and badger poo, or eating disgusting rotting animal carcasses, but you have to take the rough with the smooth!

freddiefrog Tue 30-Apr-13 22:00:23

I think I prefer my dog to be honest

He at least appears to be grateful when I feed him

Not so keen on the rolling in fox poo and dead seagulls, but he doesn't shred the couch or attempt to blind me when I have to give him a tablet

AnnaFiveTowns Tue 30-Apr-13 22:39:52

Cats seem a little bit evil. Especially those Siamese ones. I just don't trust them.

Love all dogs though!

MardyBra Tue 30-Apr-13 22:46:28

Dogs are a bit stupid though, aren't they?

<runs away>

LimitedEditionLady Tue 30-Apr-13 23:16:15

I love my dog,he is my furry child.
Yes they need your time and you have to be there for them but theyre the best companions and more loyal than a know the deal when you get a dog, that they need a lot of attention but to be fair i guess thats why you get one!if i didnt want to do that id just get a goldfish.

rainbowsprite1 Wed 01-May-13 00:31:28

Cats (& hens!) here. I have 3 cats but one is very special. I have DD1 age 6 who is mildly ASD. Cat knows where all DD1's cuddly toys have to be lined up on her bed, so she sleeps in the gap made for her, when she isnt under the covers with DD1 being cuddled like a stuffed toy. I have never met a cat like it. If we ever have a rough bedtime all is OK as long as the cat is curled up with her.

PariahHairy Wed 01-May-13 02:02:35

My dog is very needy, he is my shadow, apart from when I actually want him to be hmm. He tries to get in my clothes, he is exactly like another ds2.

So glad I didn't decide to have another baby, because ds2 is a bit jealous of him tbh, will race him to my lap in Sheldon "that's my spot" way grin. He is still a young puppy though.

Twattybollocks Wed 01-May-13 06:36:43

Some dogs are very needy, some aren't. Don't like cats tho, they are two faced and the best they can do (admit there are some exceptions) is cupboard love.

HoneyDragon Wed 01-May-13 06:47:41

Are 28 kilo dogs not meant to sit on your lap, then? confused

HoneyDragon Wed 01-May-13 06:49:42

It think as no one else has arrived you can assume, dogs, is the official Mumsnet stance on the subject.

Dawndonna Wed 01-May-13 07:07:00

The damn dog here is too needy. Started scratching at half three. I finally got up at five. Give him credit, he do go out and do something. But I've got an up to my ears day with different hospital appointments today, with different members of the family at differenet hospitals!

KellyElly Wed 01-May-13 09:16:53

My cats are needier than any dogs I know grin

MERLYPUSS Wed 01-May-13 12:47:20

I cant see the point of either. Ive had both. They both make mess, demand feeding, shit in your garden, and shed hair. Dogs require walks.
Before I had kids I couldn't contemplate not having a dog. Now they are just another expense. Oh, and they smell. But then so do kids!
