To enjoy "The Voice" and think its now as bad as people say?

I've actually been laughed at by people for saying that I enjoy this programme but I don't think its as bad as some people are saying. I think the standard of singing on its very good and there are no "joke" contestants, the song choices on it are a lot better than the typical karaoke fare you get on X Factor or Britain's Got Talent and the judges are actually qualified to judge people.

I feel like I am the only person in the UK still watching though. AIBU to think its not that bad? More importantly does anyone actually agree with me?........

usualsuspect Sat 20-Apr-13 13:40:19

Will I would. Is reason enough to watch it.

AmIthatSpringy Sat 20-Apr-13 13:43:42

I love the Voice, except where they stray into sob story territory, which is a bit too much x-factory for my liking

I agree, I too would Will I all night grin

I don't care if I am in the minority - I am the Voice and Strictly all the way, and haven't watched X factor or BGT in years.

Another fan here!

PseudoBadger Sat 20-Apr-13 13:46:22

I like it. -- we have been known to swivel our chairs--

PseudoBadger Sat 20-Apr-13 13:46:49

Grr. we have been known to swivel our chairs

CelticPixie Sat 20-Apr-13 13:47:22

Glad it's not just me. I've really come to dislike Simon Cowell and his shows, they are completely fake and set up. The Voice feels a lot more "real" to me, and yet I've had friends and relatives tell me its "crap and boring" when they've never actually watched it half the time.

usualsuspect Sat 20-Apr-13 13:50:41

It's perfect Saturday night slobbing on the sofa telly.

WorriedMummy73 Sat 20-Apr-13 13:53:22

I found myself watching it with DD a couple of weeks back. And I will definitely agree that the talent is loads better than X Factor and that the judges are better qualified to comment.

However, we felt really uncomfortable at the young lad (16, iirc) who had a lovely voice and no one turned round. There were tears in his eyes when he finished and the judges asked his age, then, when they knew how young he was they all looked really awkward and it got very patronising. 'Oh, if I'd known how old you were, I would have taken you on!'. 'Please come back next year'. etc, etc.

And that fecking Welsh woman who took nearly half an hour to choose which judge she wanted...

Another unashamed fan here, but it took some time to come to terms with the fact I like one of these abominations programs.

I hate them all.

...Apart from the voice.

Maybe I'm a sucker for a rotating chair? Oh and Will-i-am is pure comedy.

RedHelenB Sat 20-Apr-13 13:56:03

Much better than X factor so YANBU.

CelticPixie Sat 20-Apr-13 13:57:26

Another thing I like is how each judge represents a particular genre or style of music. Will I Am is hip hop/R&B, Jessie J is contemporary pop, Tom Jones is for the older and big voiced singers and Danny is rock/indie.

pictish Sat 20-Apr-13 14:00:13

Danny's not rock or indie - he's a twat. The Script are crap.

KateBeckett Sat 20-Apr-13 14:00:24

I love the voice!! The judges fit so well together and are so funny and the singers they have on are of a much better quality smile

HeySoulSister Sat 20-Apr-13 14:00:52

Danny o Donaghue.....whats not to like?? grin

WorriedMummy73 Sat 20-Apr-13 14:01:40

Pictish - thank you. I didn't want to be the first to have a go at Danny, but the way he sits with his feet up or his knee bent, and the fact that he's so earnest, makes me sick in my face!

WorraLiberty Sat 20-Apr-13 14:02:51

I like it

I like Jessie J too but she's really winding me up...trying to turn it into the Jessie J show.

That couple who sang together, what were they called.. Jones and Jones or something? They were incredibly staged. I hope they're staging themselves and it's not the show's doing.

I agree, Danny wouldn't know rock if someone threw one at him.

Fairylea Sat 20-Apr-13 14:06:51

We all love it! smile

Dh is pleased to be off work today so he can watch it with us all later... ! That's how sad we are smile

AmIthatSpringy Sat 20-Apr-13 14:07:18

<wishes she had a swivelly chair like Pseudo >

sarahandemily Sat 20-Apr-13 14:08:05

I sort of love and hate it but will defo be watching. Will.i.am is pure genius, Danny is a complete Pratt who can't decide anything for himself and Jesse is a fake. I can't stand it when they spend too long on the persuading who to choose bit and it winds me up when they say I would have turned if I'd known how old you were or I whish I had turned. Doesn't make any difference - either they are good enough or not.

WorriedMummy73 Sat 20-Apr-13 14:10:01

The other thing I noticed (from my one viewing!) is the way they whisper to each other 'are you going?', 'you should go', etc, then they all bastard-well turn! Wtf is THAT about???

Confused...

I think it was last week that one of them asked another what the singer looked like shock

Surely that's the whole point of the backs turned thing? To judge purely on voice alone? I was surprised they didn't edit it out.

NoelHeadbands Sat 20-Apr-13 14:12:25

Come and join in on the threads in Telly Addicts.

Only um, well we do take the piss a bit blush but its all said with love

WorraLiberty Sat 20-Apr-13 14:12:32

If you think that's sad Fairylea

My and the DC's sit with our backs to the TV and turn around if we like them blush grin

Fairylea Sat 20-Apr-13 14:13:19

smile worra I'm going to try that tonight smile

WorriedMummy73 Sat 20-Apr-13 14:13:57

Well, my DD had a good gander at them as they came on, THEN turned her back to the screen. I explained that she was spectacularly missing the point!

CelticPixie Sat 20-Apr-13 14:13:58

Noel, I can handle a bit of piss taking so I might come in there when its on later.

I'm so glad I'm not alone. I've even refrained from discussing it on Facebook in case I get laughed at about it.

grin Worra

WorraLiberty Sat 20-Apr-13 14:15:11

Thanks

I won't be the only loon who does it then grin

AmIthatSpringy Sat 20-Apr-13 14:15:40

I might join in later too.
I might even try the "back turned" bit as well grin

I, going to try that Worra as we all love the voice. We love Danny (and DD loves the Script anyway) and Will.i.am and we live kinda near where Jessie grew up I think. Will miss watching The Voice when we move abroad sad

WorraLiberty Sat 20-Apr-13 14:19:12

You have to cross your legs and pretend your knee is the button grin

That way you can do all the attention seeky stuff...like pretending you're going to press it...and then making a painful looking expression.

WorraLiberty Sat 20-Apr-13 14:20:05

Can't you watch it online when you move abroad?

Euphemia Sat 20-Apr-13 15:41:21

DD and I love The Voice. We settled down to watch BGT last week and decided to bail on the whole series after seeing the first act. It's a hideous, cruel programme and we cannot bear Simon Cowell's smug git face while he's snarking at people who have obviously been put up there to be mocked. Hideous. X-Factor is the same.

meddie Sat 20-Apr-13 15:52:18

Its compulsory saturday night viewing for me and DD and yes Worra me and DD do the whole backs turned malarkey. Glad to see I,m not the only one who's a butty short of a picnic.

wigglesrock Sat 20-Apr-13 16:00:10

We all watch it here too, well except the 5 year old - it bores her, she would rather read. Sometimes I worry about her.

Me and the dds all go into my bed and watch it while dd2 despairs of us blush . Dd1 has the biggest crush on Reggie Yates, he has replaced Niall from One Direction shock

Iwantmybed Sat 20-Apr-13 16:09:12

I do really like it but I hate the typical formatting every week. Ie. First act goes through, second act doesn't etc. Backstory complete with interviews with relatives = goes through. The final act is always someone amazing that they fight over. I can watch the whole show in 40 mins but fast forwarding the tedious crap.

showtunesgirl Sat 20-Apr-13 16:09:32

I love the show! At least the judges have some kind of knowledge about the subject and they don't set people up as jokes.

sherazade Sat 20-Apr-13 17:08:45

Jessie J is the most irrittating person on television, who thinks it is all about her and constantly attempts to overshadow the acts with her show- offy miming and constant attention seeking. She plays up to the cameras so indiscreetly and tactlessly and tastelessly, she makes Tulisa look classy

Tom Jones seems nice enough, like yer grandad, in fact I pity him for some reason he always looks slightly embarrassed to be on the show.

The Script person , tolerable, at best.

Will I am looks pissed off all the time and is the only genuine thing about the show.

The Acts are usually rejects who sing quite well but have been rejected for a reason.

YABU.

AmIthatSpringy Sat 20-Apr-13 17:28:02

Will be checking in later grin

I love the Voice. Usually comment on twitter while it's on. There are other Voice lovers on there

Oh I agree sherazade, JessieJ is just vile, I really don't understand how they let her get away with her atrocious attention seeking behaviour.

They just don't show enough acts either.

Samu2 Sat 20-Apr-13 18:06:13

I like it.

Love JJ's voice but she is needy.

Love Will.i.am he is so darn adorable.

Can't stand double denim guy.

CelticPixie Sat 20-Apr-13 20:39:45

Well, well, WELL. You'd never hear Pulps's Common People on the X Factor. Simon's head would probably explode if someone sang something other than a middle of the road ballad!

Jestrin Sat 20-Apr-13 20:41:22

Im watching! Am I the only one who hates that squeak the girl singing 'common people' was doing? Diana Vickers all over again! Argghhh! Hate it!

I haven't watched a Saturday night talent show in about ten years but this evening friend was over and out it on for her DD who loves it. I have to say I was impressed. Good standard of performers, a decent premise and I liked the way the judges had to compete for the performers rather than the other way round. I even sniffled at the opera ladies. I may watch again!

I thought the guy with the blonde hair and guitar was gorgeous...a shame he didn't get through, probably would have been popular with the public too.

i usually watch it on the iplayer as its always on at bedtime, but i love it.

i also tend to be mooching on another page and only flick back if they sound good, lol.

The guitar guy was wonderful when he sang that phil Collins song but his original song choice was awful.

nipersvest Sat 20-Apr-13 21:56:37

dd's just started watching this and likes it, can see me joining her, loads better than the x factor.

Snugglepiggy Sat 20-Apr-13 21:59:32

It's my guilty secret.Didn't really get into it last year but love it now and even DH happily sits through it ,and he generally hates X and BGT types of programme.
Like so much the relatively brief intro to each singer ,and focus on them just singing. And inspired idea that judges just listen and not swayed by appearances and elaborate styling. And Will.i.am just makes me smile!

morethanpotatoprints Sat 20-Apr-13 21:59:52

Can't stand any of these programmes that loosely associate themselves with a talent competition. Hark at me grin. I suppose its ok if you think its entertaining. I'd rather listen to the real thing (not the band) but people who can really do the business.

I can't understand why so many people go on these shows and say "Its something I've always wanted to do" When they are about 18.
Most people who really want to do it work hard, probably go to college, practice for fucking hours etc.

RedPencils Sat 20-Apr-13 22:05:47

We watched BGT tonight and I've reminded myself how much I hate Simon Cowell. He's Mr Smug from Smugsville. I was cringing at hooch David Walliams was fawning all over him. It's soooooo fake and shit.

The Voice is so much better. It's worth watching just for for will.i.would. Jessie needs to dial it down.

RunRabbit Sat 20-Apr-13 22:06:26

Sorry, I've tried to like it but after watching the US version, the UK one just doesn't measure up. sad

Skinnywhippet Sat 20-Apr-13 22:32:38

Love it. Fav so far is Leah mcfall from last week. Hate bgt and X factor. Glad others like will I am!! Thought it was just my guilty secret.

Skinnywhippet Sat 20-Apr-13 22:33:29

Bit embarrassed that I didn't realise he was American thought! Blame the fact that so many Brits speak with fake American accents....ok, I'm just stupid.

norfolknic Sat 20-Apr-13 22:44:27

Yabu, I would like it except the egotistical judges make me want to vomit, I just can't watch it due to them and all their high drama. Sorry!

giveitago Mon 22-Apr-13 21:38:45

wil.i.am - love the programme just for him, The man is totally hot.

Doubtfuldaphne Mon 22-Apr-13 22:02:41

I am auditioning to go on it for next year so all I feel is nerves and a bit sick when I watch it!
Will I am is gorgeous too (must try to push that out of my mind if I want to get anywhere near getting through)
Jessie is a very nice girl - I met her last year at a festival ..she seemed so down to earth and normal but on the show she is really taking over. Maybe he feels she has a lot to prove being te only woman on the panel?

I irrationally hate Will-I-am-an-arsehole. He is the most annoying person in the universe.

I actually have to mute it when he attempts to talk about 'Dope ' hmm
