and the award for shittest prize ever goes to - 7 for all mankind!

(52 Posts)

What a load of cock! I won a £300 voucher through Mumsnet and bought some jeans and sunglasses with it through the website, jeans didn't fit and the sunnies were boggin' in RL so I returned them. Now I can't use the code again so I have actually ended up worse off than before I won the prize as I had to pay postage to return the items. bunchacunts. And the jeans and sunniest cost £325 and I had to email them repeatedly to get the £25 back. angry

Eh? Can't they just send a pair that fit? confused

Have you contacted HQ?

MammaTJ Thu 04-Apr-13 16:40:41

Mature way to sort out ishoos! hmm

500internalerror Thu 04-Apr-13 16:42:22

Did your emails explain & request politely, or were in the same style as your post here?

ShatnersBassoon Thu 04-Apr-13 16:45:33

It's just a misunderstanding, surely?

CutePuppy Thu 04-Apr-13 16:47:38

Would. It not be better to raise the issue with them in a calm and mature manner?

usualsuspect Thu 04-Apr-13 16:49:01

You sound a bit ungrateful, I've done loads of competitions on here and never won anything. [bitter]

And how much for a pair of jeans and some sunglasses shock

ImTooHecsyForYourParty Thu 04-Apr-13 16:50:40

Three HUNDRED pounds for a pair of jeans and some sunglasses? shock

Surely your account should be credited by the three hundred? Have they told you that it won't? Surely that's no different to keeping your actual money?
What communication have you had re using the voucher?

All communication has been polite and via email, I asked for a phone number when I was told the prize couldn't be used again and they said they didn't have one.
£300 for jeans and sunglasses is obscene - you're quite right!
And ungrateful that its cost me money to not receive a prize really?
If I hadn't had to remind them to give me my £25 back several times over a matter of weeks and I hadn't ended up out of pocket because of the postage I really wouldn't give a shit.

cleangreens Thu 04-Apr-13 17:00:33

You sound very 'grabby' and ungrateful hmm.

I can't believe they wouldn't have found some jeans that fitted you or are you a peculiar shape?

Oh and I forgot! Originally they took the whole £325 off my card despite me using the voucher code they gave me. That was a worrying week or so while I waited for it to be refunded!

RunningAgain Thu 04-Apr-13 17:05:55

Yeah op! You should be grateful that your prize has left you put of pocket! You grabby thing you!

Cleangreens - how would they do that? The jeans were too big so I returned them (they don't do exchanges) assuming I would be refunded and able to order the next size down. But they won't refund the voucher so I can't do that.

ImTooHecsyForYourParty Thu 04-Apr-13 17:10:02

That was really bad of them.
I think that they should supply you with 300 worth of goods, that's what you won and they should honour that.
Hopefully its just an admin cockup.

MNHQ, were there T&C attached to this prize menaing that bullet can't return / exchange goods to ensure she gets the value of her prize.

I agree with her that it's not much of a prize if you only have one chance at ordering to the value of the prize, and can't exchange clothes that don't fit.

whokilleddannylatimer Thu 04-Apr-13 17:13:14

Have you contacted MNHQ bullet? I won a prize on here and had a long running problem with them, MNHQ contacted them for me. I presume they get cheaper advertising for offering a prize.

I don't think it is hecsy. The email I received clearly states that the voucher cannot be used again. Shame, I was so excited that I had won! I never win anything!

usualsuspect Thu 04-Apr-13 17:15:18

Can you email MNHQ for some help?

No, I didn't think of contacting MNHQ actually! blush I guess I just assumed it had nothing to do with them once 7fam had contacted me.
Does anyone know who the competitions person is?

RunningAgain Thu 04-Apr-13 17:17:37

You're not really using it again though are you? You didn't keep the jeans, so it hasn't been used. I think it's 7fam who are the grabby ones tbh. £300 for a pair of jeans is insane shock

LittleEdie Thu 04-Apr-13 17:18:41

That's terrible. I would be gutted.

MsBella Thu 04-Apr-13 17:23:12

That is terrible they sound like a really shit company with bad customer service. Remind me to never shop there when I win the lottery

Maryz Thu 04-Apr-13 17:25:49

I can't believe you haven't thought to ask mnhq shock

Surely if they gave out the prize they would be the first to inform if it all went belly up.

whokilleddannylatimer Thu 04-Apr-13 17:30:48

I contacted Ann but only because that's who had sent me a PM to say I had won.

When I won Ann told me I had won, then the company contacted me to ask me what I wanted to pick out. I chose things for dc for Christmas thinking I had plenty of time and I was a bit short of money. Three months later I still had nothing and they were not answering my emails. They then emailed me and said they were sending it out that day. Three weeks later still nothing and not replying, contacted again, they promised to find out and email me same day, nothing again.

I contacted Ann and it was sorted within a week although I got nothing like I had ordered for some of it and it messed the dc Christmas up.

Maggie111 Thu 04-Apr-13 17:39:55

Yanbu OP - that's shocking!!

I've contacted Natasha as she sent the email telling me I'd won.
I guess 7fam don't really care about customer service when they aren't making any money out of the transaction though! I think they probably guessed I won't be buying anything from them in future when I was worried about £300 being taken from my account accidentally. <pov>

cleangreens Thu 04-Apr-13 17:44:39

I just can't believe that they wouldn't exchange a wrong size? That isn't using the voucher again surely?

whokilleddannylatimer Thu 04-Apr-13 17:56:08

I had a look clean and it says they don't exchange at all just refund stupidest policy ever

Maryz Thu 04-Apr-13 18:10:42

Well, then they should refund the voucher, surely?

Maryz Thu 04-Apr-13 18:16:33

Bloody hell, I've just looked at their website. I was going to suggest that a top or jacket might be easier to guess size for rather than trying for jeans.

Their cheapest jacket which is revolting is €400.

I think I would cry if I won €300 to spend there.

I would ask mnhq to get them to refund your postage and call it a day. Maybe Ann will send you a box of chocolates instead smile

Bloody hell! So you can't even eBay the jeans and sunglasses because you paid to return them in the belief that you could exchange them? What a useless prize. You won a load of stress and hassle and an empty pocket!

HotCrossPun Thu 04-Apr-13 18:43:08

Have you had any response from MNHQ yet?

yaimee Thu 04-Apr-13 18:49:47

Can't believe people are calling you ungrateful and grabby op! I hope this gets sorted for you, yanbu!

maddening Thu 04-Apr-13 18:57:55

Ask for them back and ebay them?

GoEasyPudding Thu 04-Apr-13 19:56:43

If you don't get any help from the company offering the prize or from Mumsnet then you can follow this advice given on a competition website called prizefinder.

The Institute of Promotional Marketing will deal with your complaints, and can be contacted at complaints@theipm.org.uk. They will sometimes pass the case on to the Advertising Standards Agency. If you feel a promotion is unfair or has been badly handled you can also complain to the ASA directly. Promotions in the UK are regulated by the CAP Code, which states that “Promoters must conduct their promotions equitably, promptly and efficiently and be seen to deal fairly and honourably with participants and potential participants. Promoters must avoid causing unnecessary disappointment.”

Don't let this go! I think you should be allowed a pair of blooming jeans if you have won them!

Cuddlydragon Thu 04-Apr-13 21:09:28

OP, I don't think you sound grabby or entitled. I'd be mightily pissed off too. There is some really odd posters about at the moment. Is it a full moon?

macdoodle Thu 04-Apr-13 21:21:50

Shocking customer service! I hope MNHQ sort it out.

I haven't heard from MNHQ yet - it's only been a couple of hours! smile
I've got a thick skin - I can handle being called grabby! Especially when I was rather rude in my OP blush

RowanMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 04-Apr-13 22:44:42

Hi there

Sorry to hear about this - the lovely Natasha doesn't work evenings but we're sure she'll be over it like a rash ASAP.

OnwardBound Thu 04-Apr-13 23:00:05

I also won something on MN once, tickets to an event.

The company that offered the free tickets were really slow in sending them out and slow in responding to my emails asking for details of the event [as I needed to arrange time off work and childcare].

It was a bit frustrating tbh but MN HQ were brilliant when asked to intercede on my behalf and soon got the ball rolling re correspondence.

Good luck OP. I hope you get the prize that you won and aren't left out of pocket!

Cheers Rowan! I wasn't expecting a reply tonight smile

DorcasDelIcatessen Fri 05-Apr-13 00:55:29

OP, I don't think you sound grabby or entitled. I'd be mightily pissed off too. There is some really odd posters about at the moment. Is it a full moon?
This. All of it.

Good luck OP. lets hope they give you something extra to make up for the inconvenience. Then come back to boast and piss the sourpusses on this thread off so they can get all rarrgh on you and be mean to you but you won't care coz you won and erm they didn't. grin

cleangreens Fri 05-Apr-13 01:14:40

Ok i totally apologise calling you grabby, just took a look at the website and it does look pants - no phone number? What's that all about then!

Your opening post didn't do you any favours though in all honesty grin!

Good luck.

LittleEdie Fri 05-Apr-13 02:34:56

I think some people are jealous.

No worries clean smile

valiumredhead Fri 05-Apr-13 11:02:31

I'd be pissed off too and massively disappointed!

Feminine Fri 05-Apr-13 11:06:42

I 'inherited' some jeans from 7, they went in the butt very fast!

Same kind of quality as top shop IMO, for much more $$. grin

Hope you get some that fit...

DoJo Fri 05-Apr-13 16:08:20

Not having a phone number contravenes the guidelines on transactional websites as per Electronic Commerce Guidelines 2002 (more info here: http://www.bodlelaw.com/e-commerce/website-legal-requirements-contact-information as the actualy guidelines themselves are a bit weighty!) Having only a contact us form (as they do) is frowned upon unless they respond within 30-60 minutes which it doesn't sound like they have done. All in all, not a particularly good way to run a business and it suggests that they aren't really set up to deal with customer service issues.

DoJo Fri 05-Apr-13 16:08:52

Damn - forgot to tick the jolly box. Clickable link here: www.bodlelaw.com/e-commerce/website-legal-requirements-contact-information

PrincessLayer Fri 05-Apr-13 16:31:39

Contact the IPM, Just send an email explaining and they should get back to you
http://www.theipm.org.uk/about/contactus.aspx

Thanks, NatashaMumsnet is on the case, I'm sure she'll get it sorted! smile
If not I'll have a look at those links.

LittleEdie Sat 06-Apr-13 01:32:16

I love their jeans. The only ones that look good on me. Hence me clicking on this thread!
