To be secretly pleased I had a post deleted?

Not going to say what as that would get me into trouble. I didn't actually think what I said was bad but I don't mind it has been deleted.

I've never had a post deleted before, I feel like a fully fledged member now smile

Is it wrong to be not so secretly pleased grin

hiddenhome Tue 19-Mar-13 15:59:52

YABU to feel secretly pleased because it is shameful to have a post deleted and once you get to a certain number (nobody know what number this actually is), then they ban you and you can never return. Your life will become empty and meaningless and you will turn to online gambling and drinking too much.

I was deleted once, but I try not to think about it.

Poppet48 Tue 19-Mar-13 16:01:02

I've had a post deleted today and I feel terrible so YABU. sad

catballou Tue 19-Mar-13 16:05:49

I think you can safely assume you are an untameable, radical wild thing....who needs censorship!

catballou Tue 19-Mar-13 16:06:54

and your name is therefore very suitable......smile

Catchingmockingbirds Tue 19-Mar-13 16:07:49

Yabu, I still feel bad about the time I was deleted. I've been collecting my hair from the bath plug for months to make a blanket for mnhq as a way to say sorry.

manicinsomniac Tue 19-Mar-13 16:08:06

m I don't know.

It's happened once to me and I was surprised by how shocked and upset I felt. I've thought a lot more about what I say since.

But maybe I was being pathetic and YANBU!

I took my deletion for the team. I'm proud of it grin

KellyElly Tue 19-Mar-13 16:10:54

I've only been deleted once but I still stand by my comments grin

BabsAndTheRu Tue 19-Mar-13 16:12:56

YANBU, totally agree with you, think we were all deleted on the same thread.

RawCoconutMacaroon Tue 19-Mar-13 16:16:10

I had a post deleted last week, first time ever (different name, have just name changed), it was a thread on how disability was "handled" in previous decades - I posted that in those days kids like my DS3 would have been beaten at school and probably would have sat still out if fear of being hit.

I was horrified to come back to the thread next day and see I'd been deleted- I assume because someone thought I was saying children should be beaten shock Which I was not, I was saying fear of corporal punishment was a method of control at that time.

I was mortified actually, and considered posting again with a clear explanation but the thread had ""moved on" by several pages so I decided not to in the end.

Mintyy Tue 19-Mar-13 16:16:12

Oh I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but hq delete for the tiniest little thing nowadays wink.

RandallPinkFloyd Tue 19-Mar-13 16:16:22

I've only been deleted a couple of times as far as I can remember.

One I did not deserve and was really pissed off about as the OP was a complete tosser and upset a load of people. Plus she sent me a snotty pm full of pa insults telling me how sad my life must be hmm.

One I definitely did deserve, telling someone to fuck off is against da roolz even if you say it to a weasely troll. Felt a bit bad about that one.

Don't remember any others specifically so I must have been completely comfortable in my righteousness.

You go you big rebel you!

TessTing123 Tue 19-Mar-13 16:18:51

It's not terribly secret if you start a thread announcing your secret pleasedness OP.

I have had a couple of posts deleted. One was WELL worth it. The other I feel slightly ashamed of as I may have inadvertantly upset someone.

So YABU - because it may have upset someone. But don't worry thanks

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea Tue 19-Mar-13 16:21:04

I have been deleted and then reinstated.

<rebellious and smug>

hopefloats Tue 19-Mar-13 16:21:26

I had one post deleted and I was a bit annoyed. A local business recognised themselves in my rant and got it taken down. It didn't change the fact they are still crap though. YANBU. It is a rite of passage.

RawCoconutMacaroon Tue 19-Mar-13 16:23:08

Catchmockingbirds, lol at that! grin

StuntGirl Tue 19-Mar-13 16:23:54

I'm going to go against the grain and say YANBU but that's cause I think MN is very trigger happy with the deletions. I didn't see your post though so can't comment on whether it was justified or not grin

INeverSaidThat Tue 19-Mar-13 16:25:04

I think I have only been deleted once. I had written a hilariously funny limerick about a poster who always brags. I put a lot of effort into it sad but I knew it was against MN policies . Fair cop and all that. Sigh.

I still remember it though.

Lueji Tue 19-Mar-13 16:25:15

It's a well know rite of passage.
That's when you become an official MNetter. grin

But it depends on the reason.

crashdoll Tue 19-Mar-13 16:28:28

"once you get to a certain number (nobody know what number this actually is), then they ban you and you can never."

Is this true?

hiddenhome Tue 19-Mar-13 16:29:01

No, I just made it up grin

Tanith Tue 19-Mar-13 16:29:37

I've neverevereverever been deleted [smug]

...to my knowledge, anyway... [wavering smug]

...I wonder if I have been? [worried]

...and I never realised! [panic]

...and everyone knew except for me! [paranoid]

RobinSparkles Tue 19-Mar-13 16:29:40

I've had a post deleted today too! My first ever one.

I'm torn between feeling shocked and a bit ashamed but on the other hand like I've got something to cross off my MN bucket list. wink

I've been here 6 years so it's taken a while!

crashdoll Tue 19-Mar-13 16:30:17

When I first got a post deleted, I ran around the house screeching "I deserve freedom of speech. I'VE BEEN CENSORED!" and then I got over and have been deleted lots more since then.

TooYappy Tue 19-Mar-13 16:30:20

I've been very very good since January. smile

I have been lurking a LOT

crashdoll Tue 19-Mar-13 16:30:43

Aaaah hidden you sounded so serious and everything! grin

RobinSparkles Tue 19-Mar-13 16:31:00

I can say that I've been very well behaved but one person tipped me over the edge. IT WAS ALL THEIR FAULT!

westcoastnortherner Tue 19-Mar-13 16:35:34

N

everlong Tue 19-Mar-13 16:39:18

Crap, I feel smug when my posts aren't deleted!

Deleted today too. But it was worth it grin

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts Tue 19-Mar-13 16:42:11

I've had one post deleted, probably for telling someone to fuck off and/or calling them a tosspot. Never been banned though. I was banned from Bounty several times though.

somedayma Tue 19-Mar-13 16:50:28

I had a whole thread deleted a few days ago blush

I deserved it. And felt ashamed

INeverSaidThat Tue 19-Mar-13 17:05:27

If we had a hide poster option then there would be less deletions. Less deletions would mean less work for MNHQ. Everyone's a winner grin

Startail Tue 19-Mar-13 17:15:31

I don't think I've ever been deleted, I've had a perfectly reasonable PM reported by an idiot.

She was conducting a private spat derailing a useful education thread. I told her very politely to shut up, she got in a massive huff

littlemissbunny Tue 19-Mar-13 17:35:08

I wouldn't have been proud if I thought I had been offensive, I would have apologized.

I thought it was a bit harsh to delete my comment but that's up to MNHQ, I'm not going to complain.

I was only saying was everyone else was, but hey ho grin

OhDearieDearieMe Tue 19-Mar-13 17:42:20

I also had a whole thread deleted recently. I took it bravely - from behind, no lube and no squealing!

pointythings Tue 19-Mar-13 19:36:13

I had my first deletions early in January along with a lot of other posters on the same thread - it definitely felt like a badge of honour, lots of us were comparing deletions and advising other people on the same thread on how to join teh ranks of the deletions.

It does depend on the thread though, MNHQ were a bit trigger happy on that one.

Pocketchange Tue 19-Mar-13 20:55:04

What were the threads/comments which were deleted? I'm intrigued now. But don't report this comment otherwise this thread will be deleted as well.

Who is going to start the thread "how many times have you been banned from Mumsnet?"

BabsAndTheRu Wed 20-Mar-13 07:47:43

Pocket change

Look in AIBU at the thread about the SIL and a book. You'll see us all there, well only our names with deleted comment.

seriouscakeeater Wed 20-Mar-13 08:06:32

Threads like this actually remind me AIBU can be a funny place! [Grin]
crash that was me too! Out raged I told dh who replied..." Good! Now can you get tea on were all starving!" [Wink]

seriouscakeeater Wed 20-Mar-13 08:08:49

pocket twice I have been banned ...hangs head first time round , got cocky the second lol

I've been deleted! I've been deleted! I"VE BEEN DELETED!

<dances cartwheels>
<clicks hip back into place>

Blimey, you don't have to say much to get deleted, do you? The words 'thoughtless', 'selfish' and 'insensitive' are pretty much par for the course on AIBU, non? grin

Pocketchange Wed 20-Mar-13 10:07:56

seriouscake this is my 4 th incarnation. I now always remember to log out when I've posted a dodgy comment.

(now Logs out)

aldiwhore Wed 20-Mar-13 10:15:15

I had a post deleted yesterday, and I'm glad it was as it wasn't particularly pleasant, and as soon as I posted it I was annoyed with myself for allowing another poster to rattle me so much.

YABU to be proud, but YANBU to be glad it's gone!!

limitedperiodonly Wed 20-Mar-13 10:45:37

I was deleted the other week for calling someone a poo head.

I'm very mature like that.

Rikalaily Wed 20-Mar-13 10:51:46

I had a post deleted yesterday too, just hope the OP read it before it went, I'm hoping it was her that reported it too grin

Pigsmummy Wed 20-Mar-13 10:59:06

I have been on since January, can't wait to get a deletion or a telling off!

lottie63 Wed 20-Mar-13 11:01:36

'Poo head'??! Good lord, is that all it takes these days? I didn't realise. Is there a list of words we can't use? I know! Let's draw one up! Right now. Just so we all know. It's bound to come in handy. That is, until the meanings of words change... which they do all the time...and 'poo head' s bound to function as a compliment sooner or later (like 'wicked' now means something cool)

limitedperiodonly Wed 20-Mar-13 11:20:19

Being called a poo head can be just as distressing as being called a weapons grade cunt. Apparently.

Snoopingforsoup Wed 20-Mar-13 11:31:23

I had a post deleted under another name too - I didn't realise it was a badge of honour. blows fingernails
I was being flippant, I was at the time waiting for a scan and I knew I was awaiting bad news!
It was a one liner I delivered which looking back probably was a bit offhand, but it wasn't hideous either! Not sure if any others have gone.
I wonder what the number is...though I'm not sure I'm a serial upsetter.

RandallPinkFloyd Wed 20-Mar-13 11:31:40

Weapons grade cunt <<wheeeeeze>>

Feminine Wed 20-Mar-13 12:16:26

I've been deleted a few times.

Recently I told a mean spirited poster that I hoped she would step in dog shit later that day.

That got me removed! grin

seriouscakeeater Wed 20-Mar-13 16:11:04

pocket why do u log out??.... I never do...

Atthewells Wed 20-Mar-13 16:39:01

Only one post? Pah! I had a whole thread deleted once, under a different name.

I too don't understand the log out comment??

idiot55 Wed 20-Mar-13 16:42:48

I had a message to say nemerous posts of mine had been reported and to behave!

only one of my posts could vaguely have ben reportable, really odd

middleagedspread Wed 20-Mar-13 16:48:51

I'm reasonably new here, but secretly rather like the idea of having a deletion.
What do you have to do, smoke behind the bike shed?

Atthewells Wed 20-Mar-13 17:08:14

I remember a thread once where a poster was ranting at a couple of other posters about how they were rude and aggressive and no wonder some of their posts had been deleted and she personally was a very fair poster who had never ever had a post deleted, nope she had a very proud record of perfectly reasonable posts - seemingly unaware that several of her posts up thread had been red buttoned by MNHQ. grin

TooYappy Wed 20-Mar-13 17:15:25

Middleagespread

The classic line:

Oh fuck off

usually works Or:

You are just vile!

also works (personal attacks)

Or

Are you a troll? or I do not believe a word of this OP. (troll hunting)

My worst/best was saying all abusive men should be taken to an island and blown up, this may have been okay as it's an opinion, but I typed it on an abusive mans thread.

Not that I would recommend it of course. Like is said, I have been very good since January.

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 20-Mar-13 17:18:16

I've had a few posts deleted but I never, ever remember what I said.
I don't think I've ever been personally offensive though that seems to vary in the eyes of other posters and MNHQ.

Atthewells Wed 20-Mar-13 17:20:50

Sometimes if you've had a post deleted it can simply be because you answered a post that was offensive and had been deleted.

middleagedspread Wed 20-Mar-13 17:22:10

Thanks, TooYappy. Of course MNHQ can't tell what you're thinking, can they hmm?
On a similar subject, how do some people manage to spot trolls so easily?

Atthewells Wed 20-Mar-13 17:37:35

Was the post you had deleted on the SIL and the book thread? If so then sorry, no kudos there. Every second post on that thread seems to have been deleted on the first few pages. Talk about a madhouse!

lottie63 Wed 20-Mar-13 18:51:30

So... If someone called me a 'poohead' (I've been called alot worse in my time) and the poster's comment got deleted, and I insisted that I wasn't in the slightest bit offended by being called that, could I assert a right to have the post 'undeleted' then? And if not, why not?
