hoping for some encouraging tales of successful pregnancies from the over 40s out there

Phosphene Fri 15-Mar-13 16:50:31

My friend conceived twins naturally when she was 46. They were her first children, she had an amazing pregnancy and although she had a C-section (common with twins in Belgium) the birth was okay too.

Eebahgum Fri 15-Mar-13 16:50:40

34. Sorry - not quite old enough it seems.

TobyLerone Fri 15-Mar-13 16:51:38

23. I'm now 35 and TTC, so getting on a bit grin

Costypop Fri 15-Mar-13 16:51:44

18! The shame! But it's worked out for the best one ds aged 8 now. Though I do want another child before I'm 30

Pagwatch Fri 15-Mar-13 16:52:52

40 - very early 41.

We decided to try for our last child and I became pregnant almost immediately. Easy, straightforward pregnancy. Fast birth. No problems.
She is 10. Best thing I ever did.

mum47 Fri 15-Mar-13 16:53:13

I was 38 (eleven years ago, considered positively ancient) - there seem to be an increasing number of woman having children in their 40's, and all being and going well, more power to them.

Pagwatch Fri 15-Mar-13 16:53:28

Very nearly 41

WestieMamma Fri 15-Mar-13 16:53:49

I will be 41 when this little one arrives in a few weeks.

FriendlyLadybird Fri 15-Mar-13 16:54:34

41.

Six-year gap because we were renovating a house and DH didn't think he wanted another child. He then changed his mind.

Luckily I got pregnant easily, had a great pregnancy and natural birth, all midwife-directed.

Does that count?

BikeRunSki Fri 15-Mar-13 16:55:11

40, but exactly 3 weeks before my 41st birthday.

pixi2 Fri 15-Mar-13 16:57:53

I'm hoping I'm not done yet. I have 2 so far. DH has agreed to another if I can magic a million pounds into our bank or savings account.

Foxeym Fri 15-Mar-13 16:59:21

I'll be 42 when dc3 is born, conceived after 2 months. Already have dd1 14 and dd2 12 :-0

Gave birth to DD2 19 days after my 40th birthday. Took around six months to conceive. Very easy home waterbirth.

mum2bubble Fri 15-Mar-13 17:04:51

Phosphene your answer gives me most hope so far (and fear! twins, oh my)
congrats WestieMamma smile
FriendlyLadybird oh yes, that counts smile

TheElephantIsADaintyBird Fri 15-Mar-13 17:06:07

I was 21 but I know 2 women who are 40+ and having their first babies, they seem to be having healthy pregnancies so far as well.

Mintyy Fri 15-Mar-13 17:06:28

I had my youngest two weeks before my 41st birthday.

lirael Fri 15-Mar-13 17:07:37

Champagnecharleyismyname Fri 15-Mar-13 17:09:01

Ashoething Fri 15-Mar-13 17:10:31

MewlingQuim Fri 15-Mar-13 17:11:27

DD was born when I was 39 and I am ttc DC2 so I will be watching this thread!

A friend of mine has just had her third child at 45.

I had them at 22, 23 and 29. I 35 and have been married for 15yrs

Shortbutsosweet Fri 15-Mar-13 17:12:03

One and only at 41, pregnancy was fairly good, went on holiday at 14 weeks pregnant to Barbados (had booked pre pregnancy).
Normal delivery in a birth centre.

DukeSilver Fri 15-Mar-13 17:14:40

I was 23 but I know of quite a lot of pregnancies conceived after 40. One of my friends had her youngest at 41 and her next one at 44, another had her youngest at 41 and my granny had 3 children past her 40th birthday.

TheSmallPrint Fri 15-Mar-13 17:15:54

37. My SIL has just had one mid 40s though.

BalloonSlayer Fri 15-Mar-13 17:16:15

43!

Both my maternal great-grandmothers (my Mum's grannies) had babies at 48!

My great Aunt (by marriage) had a surprise pregnancy resulting in a baby at 49. Mind you, it did get into the papers. grin

I was 26 when I had my youngest (and 23 when I had my first)

mum2bubble Fri 15-Mar-13 17:17:26

34 was my youngest DC.

5 DC in total.

36 I became a GRANDMOTHER shock

I didn't ever want to have DC over 35, but I'm 40 now and I'm pretty sure I could easily conceive if DH and I tried it so I'm sure you'll be fine.

42. But one and only. She was born 11 weeks premature, by emergency C section, after a mainly trouble-free pregnancy. I didn't feel particularly old but I sometimes think I have an old-fashioned attitude to parenting compared to some.

archibaldmonkeyface Fri 15-Mar-13 18:16:27

First at 38, nearly 39 and second at 40, almost 41. Both natural conception after about 3 - 4 months ttc. Both complicated pregnancies (for different reasons) but problems not necessarily due to age and both c-sections, first emcs and second elcs.

Varya Fri 15-Mar-13 18:17:09

23 when I had my twins - natural birth.

Springsister Fri 15-Mar-13 18:18:29

Dc2 was born when i was 42. Conceived naturally after unsuccessful ivf cycle. We were given an 8% chance of this happening.

firesidechat Fri 15-Mar-13 18:18:49

Had youngest on my 24th birthday. Can't remember what other presents I got that day.

firesidechat Fri 15-Mar-13 18:20:06

Youngest, I was 25.

Andcake Fri 15-Mar-13 18:21:34

40 1/2 after 3 yrs of trying (Diagnosis of low ovarian reserve low amh etc) and 2 miscarriages. V easy trouble free pregnancy - c section as breech! Would love love love another but counting my blessings and coping with a 6 mo :-)

thegreylady Fri 15-Mar-13 18:23:13

I was 30 and dd was 34 when our yougest were born. However my lovely friend was 42 and 46 when she had her sons-she was a single mum too. They are both grown up now-she is 76!

apismalifica Fri 15-Mar-13 18:23:18

Had my first at 41 and then another (natural conception aka accident) at 45. Both births were induced, the first because I had pre-eclampsia and second time because they thought I might get it again. Was told I needed an epidural and refused both times. I did have some conflict with a bad tempered doctor for the second birth, she said she would now get the epidural set up, I said no thanks, and she was really annoyed and told me to remember it was my choice and not to bother to beg her to come back when I was screaming in agony later shock). Both times I had gas and air and no problemssmile. Breast fed them exclusively until 6 months and on demand until they were over 2 and they lost interest.

Nobody ever had the nerve to ask about my age back when they were babies. I lived in a lively part of London with a broad mix of people. Two of my best mates also had kids in their 40's so it was a great time. However, once I moved to the commuter belt when my second was still quite small many of the local Mums in the area were rather more small minded and treated me like a freak and excluded me from a lot of the local mum and baby stuff going on - as I already had loads of friends it was not a problem for me personally but my younger child still has issues with some of his friends Mothers not accepting him because we don't fit into their rather narrow social set! These days I'm almost 60 with a bouncy 14 yr old and have great fun - and financially it has been much less stressful than it would have been if we had started a family earlier in life.

wigglesrock Fri 15-Mar-13 18:23:33

2 months off my 35th birthday.

The others I had at 29, 30 and 33.

I had a cut off point of 35 in my head. Maybe having 3 close together I didn't want a big gap to no 4.

Am well and truly finished having babies now. Most of my friends had their last baby late 30s.

36 with DC3....and the Midwife at my hospital booking-in appointment was horrified that I refused a Down's test "at my age"! I said I wasn't interested in knowing, and that the child would be welcomed, whatever.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood Fri 15-Mar-13 19:39:31

DC3 was born when I was 44. Nearly 45. I had DC1 aged 34 and DC 2 aged 37. Had 4 miscarriages after DC2 and almost gave up hope of a third after I got to 42. So glad I didn't. He is a delight and his older sisters adore him. And I had an easy pregnancy too. Good luck.

41 - DCs 1 + 2 in my twenties. Although I conceived very quickly with DC3, I had been having reflexology to sort my hormones out because I thought I was perimenopausal and worried that another baby was out of the question. Happy days.

Fightlikeagirl Sat 16-Mar-13 07:58:21

I was 25 and 27 when I had my two DS's.
Married at 25.
All of my close friends thought I was crazy but supported me, it just felt right for me.
Then was diagnosed with cancer at 30 and given treatment which was said would more than likely make me infertile, was offered to delay treatment and have eggs frozen but at that point staying alive for my 2 was more important than any future babies.
Now 33, 2 years clear and looking forward to my friends starting their families now so I can be fun Aunty!

32, so no help personally, but I do come from a line of older mums as my DM was 42 when I was born and my GMs had their youngest at 40 and 41 respectively. Further back, my GGM had her 7th and 8th children at 44 and 46, the youngest when my GM was already 21. I also had a friend whose mum had had a successful career in nursing before getting married and she managed to produce 4 children when she was between 38 and 44.

My MIL was 42 which was her 15th child.
I stopped the pill at 39, but failed to get pregnant again, despite fertility pills at 40. < sad face>.
So last and only child was born when I was 20.

I was 29, 31 and 32 when I had my children.
