Cos it's bohemian rhapsody and the irritating yuppie couple opposote have talked on the quiet carriage for the last 50 minutes?

Fuck it, I'm doing it anyway. Might mime along too.

LadyRainicorn Tue 26-Feb-13 08:11:37

So you think you can love me and leave me to die?

LadyRainicorn Tue 26-Feb-13 08:12:07

Nothing really matters, anyone one can see

peanutMD Tue 26-Feb-13 08:12:35

YABU people are allowed to speak its called being sociable!

However playing music out loud in public is a total pet hate of mine so I would say that grin

LadyRainicorn Tue 26-Feb-13 08:12:55

Anyway the wind blows. ..

It's gone on repeat. Fuck Tuesdays.

LadyRainicorn Tue 26-Feb-13 08:14:23

I'm on headphones

You're not supposed to talk on a mobile so why be allowed to talk to the person next to you? That's twice the noise?

Only if you do a "Wayne's World" type's the law...

AnaisB Tue 26-Feb-13 08:16:59

You are allowed to talk to people on a quiet carriage. Most people find hearing half a conversation more annoying.

LadyRainicorn Tue 26-Feb-13 08:21:31

Very small scale miming and head nodding banging going while yah, yah, yah goes on opposite. Thank god Waterloo is next stop

LadyRainicorn Tue 26-Feb-13 08:25:05

Prodigy for the tube! Yeah!

LadyRainicorn Tue 26-Feb-13 08:25:52

Up up and away in my beautiful, my beautiful balloon

YABU but funny.

LadyRainicorn Tue 26-Feb-13 09:29:39

I still don't get why it's acceptable for 2 people to be talking to each other but hadthey been talking quietly on their phones they would have been justifiably sanctisanctimoniously tutted at.

LadyRainicorn Tue 26-Feb-13 09:45:44

Yes! There's a reason I sit there!

itsakindarabbit Tue 26-Feb-13 09:48:41

YAB incredibly precious.

itsakindarabbit Tue 26-Feb-13 09:50:36

Aren't headphones banned on quiet carriages anyway?

no idea I'm not anal enough to want to sit in the quiet carriage

thesecretmusicteacher Tue 26-Feb-13 09:51:14

I'm in that carriage too. Please turn your music off.

itsakindarabbit Tue 26-Feb-13 09:51:48

What train company are you travelling with?

Buzzardbird Tue 26-Feb-13 09:53:30

YABU, "Yuppie"? What decade are you in? Is it a time travelling train? grin

LadyRainicorn Tue 26-Feb-13 09:57:12

South west trains

You're allowed headphones as long as the music doesn't leak out. Mine may have leaked out a tiny bit on the loudest I could stand (which was only about a third of the bar I'm such a wimp)

I am crammed onto a train for an hour. If I'm to be a sardine, I'd like to be a peaceful sardine. Is that precious? I wouldn't complain if it wasn't the quiet carriage.

LadyRainicorn Tue 26-Feb-13 09:59:01

Possibly. They got on at ascot and talked about dinner parties and crap. I was too lazy to think of the modern alternative!

itsakindarabbit Tue 26-Feb-13 10:03:29

SW trains guidance for quiet carriages says "please show consideration by not using mobile phones and making sure your music doesn't disturb others".

Doesn't say no talking, you're making it up as you go along a bit I think.

You're in the wrong place, you need the trappist monks carriage grin.

itsakindarabbit Tue 26-Feb-13 10:05:47

"If I'm to be a sardine, I'd like to be a peaceful sardine. Is that precious?"

Yes it is if you're making up rules to suit yourself.

LineRunner Tue 26-Feb-13 10:07:04

I'd bloody love a trappist monks carriage. Or a miserable sullen gits carriage.

Sadly I always seem to end up in the overcrowded fighty carriage.

YABU listening to queen

LadyRainicorn Tue 26-Feb-13 10:31:43

Take that back!

LadyRainicorn Tue 26-Feb-13 10:32:41

But how is talking to each other better than talking on a mobile if the quiet carriage is for people not to be disturbed?

I would love a 'don't even think of making a sound' carriage.
Other people's conversations are generally so dull.

Otherworld Tue 26-Feb-13 10:43:40

I'd like a party carriage. Or a yoga carriage. Either would be preferable to the misery that is the quiet carriage.

Having been told off by a fellow passenger for talking in the quiet carriage I now avoid it.

Otherworld Tue 26-Feb-13 10:44:13

And YABU to turn your music up but you knew that.

Someone else's bad manners/bad behaviour shouldn't be an excuse for you to behave badly. You aren't going to affect only this couple, but anyone else using the quiet carriage too - now they are not only going to have to listen to a loud conversation (which may not be bothering them and isn't disallowed in the quiet carriage anyway) but they are also going to have to listen to your music too - and that is not allowed in the quiet carriage.

You know it is rude behaviour - so don't do it.

LadyRainicorn Tue 26-Feb-13 10:58:50

I know it's rude. I felt rude. And childish.

And it was pointless blush cos no one would have heard anything! just tested in a quiet office room and there's barely any noise (the laptop is louder and it's new so not a loud laptop) so actually in my ears and on a moving train, zilch!

What an amazing rebel I am.

PleasePudding Tue 26-Feb-13 11:10:26

If a carriage is a quiet carriage then I don't think you should talk because that's clearly not being quiet. I would like a lovely library style carriage. And if people want to rock out to Queen that's totally fine too if it's quiet - Maybe a sort of silent Harlem Shake thing.

SneakyNinja Tue 26-Feb-13 11:38:32

Alternatively, everyone should be as loud and antisocial as they want to block out those annoying fucking tannoy announcements. grin

somebloke123 Tue 26-Feb-13 11:51:20

I appreciate mobile phone conversations being banned in the quiet carriage as people on mobiles typically speak much louder then when having a conversation with someone sitting next to them. They seem to feel the need to broadcast their words of wisdom to the whole carriage.

Head phones are a bloody pain too - tcshhhh tcshsss ti tcshhhhh tcshhhh ti tcshhhh tcshhhh ad f**** infinitum.

I second a party carriage, with beer, that isn't £4 a can

FatherReboolaConundrum Tue 26-Feb-13 12:06:24

Right, I've now had this man's rendition of bohemian rhapsody as an earworm for about two hours and I'm blaming you, OP:

Thumbwitch Tue 26-Feb-13 12:11:44

SW trains need to up the ante on their posters - we have quiet carriages here as well (Aus) and they do mention loud chatter is not acceptable. Probably to keep the schoolkids out of them, as they can make a hideous din!

YWB a bit U but what the hell - and even if it didn't annoy them, at least you drowned out their chat!
