Was I Unreasonable To Have Complained About This Advert...?

(270 Posts)

Firstly, I should say that I am very anti-cheating. I was cheated on a couple of years ago, and I am still trying to come to terms with it. I have recently also severed all ties with 2 friends due to cheating. These were very good friends of 20+ years. Friend A was having an affair and friend B was providing her with alibi's etc. That is how strongly I feel about cheating.

Ok, so that was just a bit of background.
Today I saw the TV advert for Flora Buttery and was absolutely horrified. The tagline of it is "Go ahead, cheat on butter."
Am I being unreasonable in thinking that they are encouraging/glorifying cheating?
That they are using the word cheat as if it is something good to do?
I'm not only concerned about cheating in an infidelity sense, but cheating in things such as school tests/sports etc. If children are watching this advert, they may see no harm in cheating.

I emailed Flora company directly to tell them how disgusted I was with the advert, and their lack of morals, and to tell them I would never be buying a Flora product again.

However, when I told my mum what I had done she told me that I had over-reacted and that it was just an advert and I'd behaved like a 'crazy thing'. I left her house and haven't replied to her text.
I'm really upset with her and don't feel that I did over-react.

CatelynStark Mon 25-Feb-13 17:00:51

Um. Listen to your mum.

Umm, yes, you may have been really a lot a tad unreasonable on that one.

Tee2072 Mon 25-Feb-13 17:01:58

You overreacted. Listen to your mum.

FairyJen Mon 25-Feb-13 17:01:59

Your mum sounds very sensible smile

Its about nutter grin

mmmmmpus Mon 25-Feb-13 17:02:14

Your mum is a very wise lady

DeepPurple Mon 25-Feb-13 17:02:25

I think you overreacting a bit. It's a tongue in cheek tag line. About butter. Not exams, sports or people.

Yes you did over-react.

Big time.

pinkyredrose Mon 25-Feb-13 17:02:36

You've got too much time on your hands.

Gigondas Mon 25-Feb-13 17:03:02

Yes your mum has a point.

Seriously get some help as you are either having a bad day or you have over done the cheating point by some margin.

usualsuspect Mon 25-Feb-13 17:03:19

Err <backs away from OP>

WildThong Mon 25-Feb-13 17:03:23

Ha ha ha

CajaDeLaMemoria Mon 25-Feb-13 17:03:28

I think while you have explained your point well, you over reacted both in your email to Flora and definitely to your Mum. She has a point.

It's 'cheating' in a diet sense. Swap this for that.

It's not saying, go and sleep with someone else. It won't make men or women in relationships suddenly realise that they could be having an affair. It won't make children suddenly learn about cheating. It's a face-value butter advert.

The word does have negative connotations, and obviously very raw ones for you, but that doesn't make the advert immoral.

I'd apologize to your Mum. The advert has clearly touched a nerve, but walking out was really rude.

Erm. Yes. YABU.

Do you get this hysterical about other things or just butter cheating?

CwtchesAndCuddles Mon 25-Feb-13 17:03:56

I've been cheated on too - I think this is a massive over reaction!!!

Your mum is right!

thezebrawearspurple Mon 25-Feb-13 17:04:14

You need a hobby, a very time consuming onegrin

MikeLitoris Mon 25-Feb-13 17:04:14

Total over reaction there imo.

MikeLitoris Mon 25-Feb-13 17:05:06

Total over reaction there imo.

Theicingontop Mon 25-Feb-13 17:05:33

And, you dumped your friend of 20+ years for cheating on their partner? I think it's right of you to be a bit disappointed in your friend, angry even, but to cut them out of your life altogether? Cheating is wrong, I have been cheated on, but wow.

HollyBerryBush Mon 25-Feb-13 17:05:36

How high is your ivory tower, OP?

Looiloo79 Mon 25-Feb-13 17:06:38

Yes definitely over reacted!

Listen to your mum smile

HecateWhoopass Mon 25-Feb-13 17:07:03

erm. Sorry, but I think you did.

I also think that they are going to print out your complaint and laugh at it for a very VERY long time.

i also understand that your personal circumstances have caused you pain and it's probably that that you're lashing out at.

But it's butter. It's a silly advert and nobody, nobody is going to think well, if it's ok to have flora instead of butter, I think I'll write the answers to my history test on my arm.

WorraLiberty Mon 25-Feb-13 17:09:01

FFS please let this be a joke

countrykitten Mon 25-Feb-13 17:09:17

Er...are you ok OP? I thought this was a bit of a wind up post but it seems that you are serious! I imagine that the folk at Flora are laughing their heads off at your complaint. I certainly would be.

Apologise to your poor Mum who is probably very worried about your strange and OTT behaviour and then go for a run or something. Scary.

SnowyWellies Mon 25-Feb-13 17:09:52

Um, yes.

It is cheating on you diet... you know, the little things you pop in your mouth (like leftover fishfingers) and tell yourself it does not count.

Did you really overreact like that?

Yep - have to agree - Over reaction.
Cannot believe you cut off 2 good friends of 20+ years either.
I can understand you have strong beliefs but your friend may well have needed you for support and you just cut her off!?
You certainly do find out who your real friends are in these kinds of situations.

I'm surprised that so far there's no one who agrees with me.
I was hoping others would also email Flora and hopefully they would pull the advert if there were enough complaints.

CodandLobster Mon 25-Feb-13 17:11:15

Sorry, but you have made yourself sound a bit mad.

Floralnomad Mon 25-Feb-13 17:11:31

Are you serious? Most definitely an overreaction .

Manchesterhistorygirl Mon 25-Feb-13 17:12:09

You know that complaint is going on the pin board in the flora canteen don't you OP.

podgymumma Mon 25-Feb-13 17:12:28

OMG the people at Flora must be pissing themselves with laughter blush

CodandLobster Mon 25-Feb-13 17:12:31

Just saw your last post, now I think (hope!) that you are joking...

AllThatGlistens Mon 25-Feb-13 17:13:03

Yep, just a tad U... grin

Why was it wrong to have cut off my 2 friends? I did not agree with what they were doing. I saw a new side of them that I didn't like.

SnowyWellies Mon 25-Feb-13 17:13:37

Clearly a windup.

NoraSpect Mon 25-Feb-13 17:13:43

Massive overreaction!

PessaryPam Mon 25-Feb-13 17:14:01

Loony alert!!!!

WilsonFrickett Mon 25-Feb-13 17:14:12

Nope. I'm not going to email Flora. About their butter advert. About cheating on an inanimate object with another inanimate object.

WheresMyCow Mon 25-Feb-13 17:14:21

I'll delurk just to say that's an interesting first post Peppa hmm

If you are indeed serious I would say you have definitely overreacted.

Chill out, it's not butter grin

WheresMyCow Mon 25-Feb-13 17:15:08

Forgot to say - YABU!

Gigondas Mon 25-Feb-13 17:15:45

What has cutting off your friends got to do with it? You asked about ad.

Op you are sounding more and more extreme - is there something else going on in your life? This is not a proportionate reaction .

Aww is it a wind up?

Fuckin full moon

countrykitten Mon 25-Feb-13 17:15:54

Post 2 proves it is a wind up. Thank goodness PeppaFuckingPig - did make me laugh though. At least you are not the loopy OP I thought that you were. smile

Theicingontop Mon 25-Feb-13 17:16:00

Because people, friends, good solid friends (20 years!!) that are hard to find, make errors of judgements and mistakes. If you're their friend you kind of expect that, and are prepared to take them and all their faults. Just seems, to me, a bit extreme to completely cut them off for it.

HecateWhoopass Mon 25-Feb-13 17:16:13

Is it a first post? Don't we have a peppapig on here? I'm sure we do.

NamelessHereForEvermore Mon 25-Feb-13 17:16:18

Try harder. Perhaps a subject that has just a faint whiff of believability about it.
Go to your room and have a think about yourself. Come back down, actually, stay there.

WorraLiberty Mon 25-Feb-13 17:16:19

OP if you feel so strongly that you're in the right

Why name change?

DeepRedBetty Mon 25-Feb-13 17:16:44

Sorry, you are being seriously weird about this. That advert is British Sense of Humour in action.

I do understand about cutting off friends over cheating. I no longer speak to an ex friend after she tried to embroil me into helping to cover up her affair

countrykitten Mon 25-Feb-13 17:16:48

grin at WilsonFrickett

PessaryPam Mon 25-Feb-13 17:18:41

You sound a bit bitter at the non-butter advert, hope you feel better soon.

magimedi Mon 25-Feb-13 17:19:10

WheresMyCow Mon 25-Feb-13 17:20:54

I'm sure that there is another Peppa somewhere Hecate but it was a first post for the fucking variety shockgrin

TheFallenNinja Mon 25-Feb-13 17:23:33

If I worked for Flora I'd be pissing myself at this.

Flora, the margarine for cheaters.

If I'm honest, I was kind of expecting MN'ers to reply as you have done.
I think it's a sad reflection on society today that cheating is bandied around willy-nilly, glorified, accepted and covered up.

Also, I posted about Flora on my FB (yeah, yeah...) and so far 3 people have agreed with me and have said they will also email their concerns to Flora.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

SigmundFraude Mon 25-Feb-13 17:26:16

Oh no you di'int grin

Timeforabiscuit Mon 25-Feb-13 17:26:54

Have you heard the phrase "eating is cheating" ??

Where do you stand on that?

WorraLiberty Mon 25-Feb-13 17:27:50

You sound a bit bitter at the non-butter advert, hope you feel better soon.

I Can't Believe She's Not Bitter grin

LadyBeagleEyes Mon 25-Feb-13 17:28:48

Clearly a wind up.
I think it's quite a good one too, I sort of believed it at the start as I thought I recognised the name and thought it was a regular.
Oh and for what it's worth, you could never cheat with me over Flora and butter.
I would always know.

SkinnybitchWannabe Mon 25-Feb-13 17:28:49

You overreacted. Must be nice being so perfect

pictish Mon 25-Feb-13 17:30:31

Ohhh this has made me chuckle! grin

I think it's a sad reflection on society today that cheating is bandied around willy-nilly, glorified, accepted and covered up

It's an advert suggesting you use margarine rather than butter!! Please get some perspective because you sound quite bonkers!

Worra grin

You might not believe she's not bitter, but re-read her posts, she is utterly bitterly.

OP vitaliten up a bit.

CloudsAndTrees Mon 25-Feb-13 17:31:12

Are you from Tunbridge Wells?

SkinnybitchWannabe - Where have I said I was perfect?

MyHeadWasInTheSandNowNot Mon 25-Feb-13 17:31:46

If it's a wind up - well done you... ha ha ha (NOT)

If it's not - then you need to get help, seriously. In the nicest possible way - you need to see a professional and work through this.

Not Tunbridge Wells. Chatham.

pictish Mon 25-Feb-13 17:34:12

Flora, the margarine for cheaters.

LOLLL! grin

pictish Mon 25-Feb-13 17:35:11

Mind you, if we don't take action, this problem will spread.

CloudsAndTrees Mon 25-Feb-13 17:37:30

grin at the problem will spread! grin

FeckOffCup Mon 25-Feb-13 17:38:32

I'll definitely email flora to back up your complaint OP, right after I do the one to mcvities to tell them that picking up a penguin is wrong and will encourage people to abduct the feathery little blighters from their local zoo, where will the madness end?

CheeseStrawWars Mon 25-Feb-13 17:38:34

Hark at you, coming over all lard-di-da about an advert!

Think of the distrex you're causing your mum, and buttern your lip next time.

Theicingontop Mon 25-Feb-13 17:39:32

grin pictish

ChewinTheFat Mon 25-Feb-13 17:39:46

Haha! Nutterly Butterly!

pictish Mon 25-Feb-13 17:39:46

Oil be damned, but this thread is funny! grin

grin Hardly a 1st world issue, as it's clearly stating cheating on butter with margarine, not exactly comparable to adultery or any of the other forms of 'serious cheating' you have provided.
Sorry, but you must be the one & only person who has complained about said advertisment.
Lighten upsmile

Mind you, if we don't take action, this problem will spread.

Thanks pictish, I'm glad someone agrees with me.
Could you contact Flora on the link below to let them know your concerns too?

Theicingontop Mon 25-Feb-13 17:40:47

This thread has taken a churn for the worst.

pictish Mon 25-Feb-13 17:40:57

ChewinTheFat Mon 25-Feb-13 17:41:17

I shall also be emailing Oreos about 'dunking'. Totally making out its ok to drown poor defenceless biscuits sad

PessaryPam Mon 25-Feb-13 17:41:39

WorraLiberty Mon 25-Feb-13 17:42:10

Missy grin

CheddarGorgeous Mon 25-Feb-13 17:43:44

I think this is a marg-inal issue.

pictish Mon 25-Feb-13 17:43:47

It's a stork endictment of today's society if you ask me.

Theicingontop Mon 25-Feb-13 17:43:54

Pictish, you're on a roll!

Tee2072 Mon 25-Feb-13 17:44:18

Wait...are you serious with this?

PessaryPam Mon 25-Feb-13 17:45:03

Lardy me, this is funny.

ClayDavis Mon 25-Feb-13 17:45:13

Have you sent that e-mail yet pictish? grin

If this is a wind up someone needs to let Olivio MN know so she can delete the thread.

Timeforabiscuit Mon 25-Feb-13 17:45:44

I for one think Polybuttermargery is a perfectly valid lifestyle choice

I shall be writing to my MP

WorraLiberty Mon 25-Feb-13 17:46:12

Crying here at 'Olivio' grin

AllOverIt Mon 25-Feb-13 17:47:38

Ha ha!

CheddarGorgeous Mon 25-Feb-13 17:49:45

We need to Anchor this thread back into reality.

Then OP will be as happy as a Peppa Pig in Clover.

FelicityWasCold Mon 25-Feb-13 17:50:07

This has provided a much needed laugh today- thanks grin

If anyone does want to complain then they can contact Flora on that link. Thanks.

PessaryPam Mon 25-Feb-13 17:54:09

Just written to tell them how much I like their Cheat on butter strap line grin

Theicingontop Mon 25-Feb-13 17:54:39

I think somebutter woke up on the other side of the bread, if you ask me.

Ok I'm done now.

Theicingontop Mon 25-Feb-13 17:55:06

<bows out greasefully>

magimedi Mon 25-Feb-13 17:55:37

Maybe you should eat something less healthy?

grin cheddar.
ha ha marginal issue.

Cassarick Mon 25-Feb-13 17:56:59

Oh dear, Peppa - you are either doing a wind up really should go for counselling.

CheddarGorgeous Mon 25-Feb-13 17:58:49

Oh dairy me.... it's all kicking off.

CheddarGorgeous Mon 25-Feb-13 18:00:05

Hey, I'm on a roll

(A bit like the butter)

CheddarGorgeous Mon 25-Feb-13 18:01:22

You have to remember, when making butter ads, there is little margarine for error.

Groovee Mon 25-Feb-13 18:05:45

If your child was accused of cheating in a test at school, would you be emailing the education department to complain like this for them using the word "Cheating"?

If it's a wind up then haha, but if not, OP I really think you need some counselling.

WishIdbeenatigermum Mon 25-Feb-13 18:08:54

OP, I don't think you'd enjoy 'Last Tango in Paris'.

ELR Mon 25-Feb-13 18:10:42

Best post I've read all day! Thanks OP

Counselling because I don't like cheating?
Groovee - are you my mother? She has just text me to again say I was acting crazy and to remind me of the time I didn't speak to my brother for 3 weeks after he cheated at Connect 4.

BabyMakesTheBellyGoRound Mon 25-Feb-13 18:12:34

I'm crying with laughter here. I love mn.

Groovee Mon 25-Feb-13 18:15:40

Because you've gone overboard over a bloody word.

Were you shagging the butter? Is that why you have such a hang up over flora?

IneedAsockamnesty Mon 25-Feb-13 18:16:38

Bonkers but brilliant.

But yep your mum is right

ClayDavis Mon 25-Feb-13 18:18:20

Arf at 'Were you shagging the butter?' You'd need more than counselling to sort that issue out.

CockyFox Mon 25-Feb-13 18:18:45

Hahaha best wind up thread I've read in ages.
If not a wind up then not only U but a nutter. Reminds me of a letter the hotel I had a saturday job had pinned up in their kitchen- it compared us to faulty towers and everyone laughed at it.

CockyFox - was the hotel in Norfolk? Because that may have been me too

WilsonFrickett Mon 25-Feb-13 18:20:29

You do know margarine is adulter-ated butter in the first place? It's cheating on itself! Anyway, what's wrong with spreading the love?

[batphone for Olivia MN]

grin at Connect 4.

I detect a sore loser.

FourEyesGood Mon 25-Feb-13 18:28:47

When my butter found out I'd been eating Flora, it was heartbroken. I had to promise I'll never do it again. But I know I've broken our trust, and it wasn't worth it. The Flora was fun, but it doesn't do all the things for me that butter does.

OliviaKnowsBestMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 25-Feb-13 18:29:43

You do know margarine is adulter-ated butter in the first place? It's cheating on itself! Anyway, what's wrong with spreading the love?

[batphone for Olivia MN]

You rang?

Thanks to all those who've reported this. We can confirm that the OP is a namechanger so may I reiterate the request to spread the peace and love with whichever dairy or non-dairy shortening you prefer.

ProtegeMoi Mon 25-Feb-13 18:34:30

Lol this has to be a wind up post, no one can be that sensitive!

I may email Flora and congratulate them on the ad ;)

You are quite right PeppaFuckingPig.

I have had a stern Stork with the dc and informed them that I'll Lurpak their bags if I ever hear of them cheating. There isn't a bag of Kerrygold at the end of that rainbow.

CheddarGorgeous Mon 25-Feb-13 18:42:04

Scone grin

Bogeyface Mon 25-Feb-13 18:43:44

Ok so not U to cut off cheating friends, I would do the same.

Totally batshit crazy U to complain about the ad, and I say this as someone who was cheated on by a brand new husband during my pregnancy.

I only hope this is a total wind up.

Does the OP work for Flora...? shock

The Connect4 line was epic.

DioneTheDiabolist Mon 25-Feb-13 18:46:14

Tigermum it's marg, so it's more Slow Set in Skeggy than Last Tango in Paris.

willesden Mon 25-Feb-13 18:50:43

More free advertising than Flora could ever have hoped for. Epic fail, OP.

RalphGnu Mon 25-Feb-13 18:51:31

Thanks for the laugh, OP grin

CockyFox Mon 25-Feb-13 18:53:42

Not Norfolk OP

Ha ha. Utterly butterly.

BrianCoxandTheTempleofDOOM Mon 25-Feb-13 18:56:25

BabyMakesTheBellyGoRound Mon 25-Feb-13 19:07:36

Imagine sitting down to your toast in the morning and finding a vagina/penis shaped imprint in your butter. Now that would be something to complain about.

SandWitch Mon 25-Feb-13 19:11:32

I'm going to have to save this thread before it's scone smile

zingally Mon 25-Feb-13 19:12:03

Yup, you're being unreasonable. I bet you gave Flora a good laugh though!

Thank you everyone for your replies - even if they weren't what I was wanting to hear.
I now have 6 friends on FB who have said they will complain, so perhaps broken Britain isn't completely broken after all.

DonderandBlitzen Mon 25-Feb-13 19:38:16

AllOverIt Mon 25-Feb-13 19:38:44

You are officially bonkers!

MarmaladeTwatkins Mon 25-Feb-13 19:41:35

Are these real friends or do they live in your head?

I have 104 Facebook friends.

MarmaladeTwatkins Mon 25-Feb-13 19:46:44

I don't doubt it, mate.

Although that does remind me of that bit in I'm Alan Partridge where he is trying to prove to the farmer how popular he is. "How many cow do you have?" "Errrr...a hundred?" "Well, I've got a hundred and TWO friends."

kerala Mon 25-Feb-13 19:47:56

This reminds me of when my sister emailed Orange to complain about their advert where lots of orange paint splashes everywhere. She is a DT teacher and had a real shortage of materials at her school so couldn't bear to see the waste grin (she is usually really normal she just had a mad evening). Orange were really nice about it and said it wasn't real paint so she shouldn't worry but to thank her for giving them a good laugh.

How long is reasonable to wait for a response from Flora?

I've also emailed Ofcom and the Advertising Standards Authority.

magimedi Mon 25-Feb-13 19:52:40

I have 104 Facebook friends.

How very sad to know the total.

grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

you are fricking HILARIOUS, op !!!

MarmaladeTwatkins Mon 25-Feb-13 19:52:51

You're definitely joking.

squeakytoy Mon 25-Feb-13 19:53:24

I think you will have to wait until they have dried themselves off a bit... and stopped pissing themselves laughing..

morethanpotatoprints Mon 25-Feb-13 19:53:29

Ok can we all stop on the OP.

It is quite worrying and a shame that she is a bit unhinged atm.

OP please speak to your mum, you don't sound quite right at the moment and there is probably a good reason for this. You sound like you have been through quite an ordeal and it sounds like your mum is a bit worried too.
Hope you are still around and are in contact with your mum.

doyouwantfrieswiththat Mon 25-Feb-13 19:55:42

you've got yourself a bit churned up about this haven't you?

WildThong Mon 25-Feb-13 19:56:11

Do you think Olivio Olivia is on tonight?

I have 104 Facebook friends.

How very sad to know the total.

Why is it sad? All I have to do is look at the friend section on Facebook. I'm not counting them all individually with the use of an abacus. It says right there - 104.

morethanpotatoprints - thank you for your kind post, but I am honestly ok. Thanks for your concern though.

...Actually, 103 friends now.
Someone else obviously doesn't like my Flora views.

MarmaladeTwatkins Mon 25-Feb-13 20:01:22

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! You are great, OP! grin thanks

DioneTheDiabolist Mon 25-Feb-13 20:02:56

Oh OP, I hope that your e-mail doesn't lead to your being marginalised by your FB friends.[concerned emoticon]

WildThong Mon 25-Feb-13 20:04:15

Dione grin

Oh this thread has cheered me right up...

firesidechat Mon 25-Feb-13 20:06:09

Op, please please put me out of my misery. This is a windup, right?

MarmaladeTwatkins Mon 25-Feb-13 20:06:16
BrianCoxandTheTempleofDOOM Mon 25-Feb-13 20:06:50

Ok, so all bases are covered - the company, Ofcom and ASA.

Have you thought about contacting your local MP?

He/she may not be interested, but am sure you could butter them up and get some help?

MarmaladeTwatkins Mon 25-Feb-13 20:07:43

Oh stop it. My sides.... <weeps>

stoatie Mon 25-Feb-13 20:10:06

Just another lurpaker here.

Never mind the cheating - its the Cat revolution you should be worried about

stoatie Mon 25-Feb-13 20:10:21

I did actually LOL then.

Still18atheart Mon 25-Feb-13 20:15:15

This is hilarious.

WilsonFrickett Mon 25-Feb-13 20:16:40

Poor OP.

Hope she feels butter soon.

cocoachannel Mon 25-Feb-13 20:18:46

It's like endorsing John Lydon running of the the Lurpack trumpeter (or the Anchor cow - okay too far <hangs head in shame>).

MissAliceBand Mon 25-Feb-13 20:21:43

It's not saying, go and sleep with someone else. It won't make men or women in relationships suddenly realise that they could be having an affair.

Oh I don't know, what if your significant other only ever slathers themself in butter... and then you stumble across some fine specimen rubbing himself all over in Flora.

The advert pretty much forces you to shag him. It'd be rude not to.

ThedementedPenguin Mon 25-Feb-13 20:22:05

This is a fantastic thread. Very very funny.

I agree about the friends op but I do think your over reacting with the butter.

I could almost guarantee your the only person who thinks like this about the slogan.

usualsuspect Mon 25-Feb-13 20:26:31

You need to get clover it.

Surely not real? Please?

Oh we'll, YABU

RockPaperScissorsLizardSpock Mon 25-Feb-13 20:30:19

Where's the OP scone ?

Ah I see, this thread is Kerry gold

It could be funnier though, I can't believe it's not b e utter

MissAliceBand Mon 25-Feb-13 20:35:48

Actually this reminds me of the time Clover suggested I roll 'it' over in the clover, roll it over, spread it on and do it again.

My husband got a nasty rash.

This was in 1998. Do you think claims direct will still pursue it for me? It's affected the way I look at both margarine and green fields ever since. The idea of a picnic brings me out in cold sweats.

Perhaps we should petition the government to abolish all margarines. They're clearly a danger to society both physically and psychologically.

It seems that some people will switch to butter, despite the best intentions of Flora. Good to know.

TwoPoundCharityShopShoes Mon 25-Feb-13 20:38:47

Flora is shit...

PhallicGiraffe Mon 25-Feb-13 20:41:04

Lol...these kinds of threads are the reason I read this forum! Pure barking mad.

ok, i think you're actually being serious op confused

Best thread of the night!

VitoCorleone Mon 25-Feb-13 20:43:55

grin this thread just made my day

CheddarGorgeous Mon 25-Feb-13 20:47:58

I could read this thread til the cows come home.

Foggles Mon 25-Feb-13 20:50:32

I like you OP.

You have the kind of standards that are sadly lacking in many nowadays.

But, a memory stirs........

do you, by any chance, throw away cakes that are not to your standard?

cocoachannel Mon 25-Feb-13 20:51:36

Okay, was beginning to fear OP may be serious but the last post confirms the joke.

Bluelightsandsirens Mon 25-Feb-13 20:52:19

This thread is utterly buttery bonkers

morethanpotatoprints Mon 25-Feb-13 20:57:49

OMG, I've fallen for it again.

I am so gullible at times and here am I wishing the OP well and worrying about her mental state.
I can remember the cake thread. I didn't fall for that one though!

Foggles Mon 25-Feb-13 20:59:00

It's only a guess.

I'm sure the OP wouldn't cheat us. grin

Wasn't the cake thread Greensleeves?
I'm not Greensleeves.
I'm PeppaFuckingPig.

And I believe the Flora ad trivialises cheating and we should all complain and try to get the ad pulled.
But if you don't agree then that's fine - it doesn't mean I'm bonkers just because we have different views on things.

Sofabitch Mon 25-Feb-13 21:03:50

Yabu both to complain and to ditch good friends. People cheat for a huge variety of reasons. It's rarely as simple as black and white.

doyouwantfrieswiththat Mon 25-Feb-13 21:04:00

did we establish if you are faithful to butter or margarine?

If you're a traditionalist butter lover do you keep dripping too?

IAmLouisWalsh Mon 25-Feb-13 21:14:35

I LOVE Mumsnet.

I have laughed out loud at least six times at this thread.

OP - you are a b nutter or a genius, and I can't decide which

stickingattwo Mon 25-Feb-13 21:16:47

ahahahahahha. brilliant. Sheer genius.

WorraLiberty Mon 25-Feb-13 21:17:43

I love this thread grin

cocoachannel Mon 25-Feb-13 21:18:14

I'm not Greensleeves. I'm Peppafuckingpig.

Pure Kerry's gold.

doyouwantfrieswiththat - It's not about being faithful to either butter or marg. It's not the product I'm complaining about. I'm complaining about the fact I feel they are trivialising and glorifying cheating. I will still continue to use marg when I want - I just won't be using any Flora products from now on.

NippyDrips Mon 25-Feb-13 21:22:30

I have emailed, cheating of any kind is wrong and should be punished.

Foggles Mon 25-Feb-13 21:22:50

Then I need to apologise OP for spreading slander grin

doyouwantfrieswiththat Mon 25-Feb-13 21:23:58

Margarine? I'm afraid I've lost all my respect for your judgement now.

NippyDrips - thank you. It's heartening to know that others share my views.

cumfy Mon 25-Feb-13 21:35:00

So is this a viral ad for Flora, then ? <thick>

Softlysoftly Mon 25-Feb-13 21:40:26

Started on 5/10

Connect 4 bumped you to 9/10

I have 104 Facebook friends puts you firmly on 10/10

Neighbourhoodwatchbitch Mon 25-Feb-13 21:41:39

Lets all email flora and tell them how much we love the advert and ensure it stays on!!! Yay!!!

ThedementedPenguin Mon 25-Feb-13 21:45:00

Neighbourhood I think we should link this thread. It would be great for them to know how many people love it smile

WilsonFrickett Mon 25-Feb-13 21:59:35

Yeah, let's show them how they wipe the Flora with the competition.

Pigsmummy Mon 25-Feb-13 22:06:32

Softlysoftly she only has 103 Facebook friends now. Maybe that friend has run off with the butter?

chandellina Mon 25-Feb-13 22:12:18

Thanks for making me laugh out lard

BerryLellow Mon 25-Feb-13 22:59:02

Counting friends on an abacus <weeps>

'I'm peppafuckingpig' <wets self>

RIZZ0 Mon 25-Feb-13 23:06:28

At least replies are funny even if the op isn't.

Where do I complain about people who sully children's tv characters with f words? I'm against pig fucking and have even lots two friends I knew for twenty years over it. I have 93 FB friends.

magimedi Mon 25-Feb-13 23:12:31

I too am against character pig fucking & have lost many friends.

I have no facebook friends sad*

*Possibly as I don't have an account!

ClayDavis Mon 25-Feb-13 23:16:41

<sits next to magimedi on the no facebook friends bench>

TwoPoundCharityShopShoes Tue 26-Feb-13 07:06:07

Did anyone see embarrassing bodies last night? They were in Magaluf speaking to all the teenagers sleeping with anything that moves... The flora advert was on in the ad break... Coincidence? I think not...

Targeted advertising at its best!

MarmaladeTwatkins Tue 26-Feb-13 12:14:37

MarmaladeTwatkins Tue 26-Feb-13 12:15:16

Oh it's B U P C A K E S btw blush

FellatioNels0n Tue 26-Feb-13 12:20:59

Jesus. What is it with people this week?

<goes for a lie-down>

Bibs123 Tue 26-Feb-13 12:22:54

if this post is genuine and i was your friend i would cheat or just tell you i cheated. . .

MarmaladeTwatkins Tue 26-Feb-13 12:25:20

Come on Fellatio, it's a great thread! I went to bed laughing last night grin

HerbyVore Tue 26-Feb-13 12:25:31

I didn't speak to my brother for 3 weeks after he cheated at Connect 4

FellatioNels0n Tue 26-Feb-13 12:27:24

That was in response to the opening post BTW, in case anyone was wondering. grin

FellatioNels0n Tue 26-Feb-13 12:30:20

Oh I haven't read the thread MT. I'm just going around the whole board scowling at every stupid thread and dishing out some very tough love today. I think I am hormonal or something.

Shall I read it then? Will it put me in a good mood? Because I'm going to get myself into trouble if I carry on like this. I need some light distraction. grin

MarmaladeTwatkins Tue 26-Feb-13 12:37:14

Oh it's excellent, Fells. Most excellent.

FellatioNels0n Tue 26-Feb-13 12:44:11

OK. grin

FellatioNels0n Tue 26-Feb-13 12:46:40

*I'm surprised that so far there's no one who agrees with me.
I was hoping others would also email Flora and hopefully they would pull the advert if there were enough complaints.*

grin I'm cheering up already.

Bluelightsandsirens Tue 26-Feb-13 15:02:06

How's the campaign going then?

MummyDuckAndDuckling Tue 26-Feb-13 15:57:14

Wow major over reaction!!! shock

grovel Tue 26-Feb-13 16:22:00

Life is but a melancholy flower. Life is butter, melon, cauliflower.

Pigsmummy Tue 26-Feb-13 16:31:52

Leave pigs (famous or otherwise) out of this please...... Its all getting spread very thin

skratta Tue 26-Feb-13 17:39:19

I'm allergic to melon. What does that say about my life, grovel?

TiggyD Tue 26-Feb-13 17:43:17

You under-reacted. This is quite possibly the biggest topic of the 21st century so far. This will define a whole new era in my opinion, which is of course, quite wrong.

Porkster Tue 26-Feb-13 17:52:19

This is such a wind up thread.

It's bleedin' obvious.

Groovee Tue 26-Feb-13 18:12:41

OMG, how much does the voice over voice turn one on!!! I must insist that Flora show the advert at every ad break.

Ilovexmastime Tue 26-Feb-13 18:12:58

Ilovexmastime Tue 26-Feb-13 18:13:25

MaryPoppinsMassiveSack Tue 26-Feb-13 18:15:25

You should calm down, maybe have a nice buttered crumpet?

ThreadPirateFanjoBeard Tue 26-Feb-13 19:06:09

You do realise that your complaint will be winging its way round the whole team, and is probably on their notice board with a note reading, 'Butter nutter of the month'

Bluelightsandsiren - I'm not campaigning against the advert, per se. I have made my feelings clear on the ad, and I have provided the contact details for Flora to those who share my feelings and also want to complain. But I can see that I'm in the minority with the way I feel. Which surprises me to be honest. But, thank you for asking.

I think cheating is just too widely accepted in society and is becoming the norm. Like that horrible TV show 'Cheaters' - people caught cheating on camera purely for entertainment purposes.
But, as I've said before - I don't just mean cheating in an infidelity sense. I've mentioned my brother and the Connect 4 incident, and another one that comes to mind is when a boy in my school class (this was 15+ years ago) tried to copy from my paperwork during an English exam. I reported him there and then and he was later suspended for this. Even my parents made a big fuss of this and said I shouldn't have reported him and that I was out of order. But, to me, cheating is out of order.

RIZZ0 Tue 26-Feb-13 19:47:46

BUPPPPERSSSS!! ( / marmalade)

Peachy keen thanks honey. Been mostly chewing gum, kickin asss and hanging out with hoods, ya know.

I look forward to chasing you around the boards wink

Peppa, I know who you are grin

In real life, or from my previous username?

Anyway, it doesn't matter because I have nothing to hide, and everyone on my Facebook knows about the Flora thing so, really, I have truly outed myself by posting this thread.

Shakey1500 Tue 26-Feb-13 20:23:30

YANBU to want to boycott Flora because Lurpak is far superior.

YABU to truly think it will have any effect on whether people cheat or not, even if it is making light trivialising cheating.

I've cheated loads during the course of my life. All of them board/card games because I'm a bloody bad loser grin

WorraLiberty Tue 26-Feb-13 20:29:23

Isn't it about time you took a bow OP and told us your usual NN? grin

Worra - I don't think anyone would recognise me from my 'usual' NN. And I've had a couple of usual 'NN'. I'm more of a lurker really, and don't tend to start threads.
And, just to clarify - I didn't namechange solely to start this thread.
I was namechanging anyway - for similar reasons, no doubt, that other people namechange!
It just so happened that I namechanged and then started a thread where people have accused me of being on the wind-up. Which I'm not.

Shakey - you're admitting that you've cheated?? GET OFF MY THREAD!!! wink

Shakey1500 Tue 26-Feb-13 20:36:23

Figgygal Tue 26-Feb-13 20:39:20

Wow just wow!!

Just wow you think I'm being reasonable?
Or, just wow you think I'm being unreasonable?

morethanpotatoprints Tue 26-Feb-13 21:15:04

Are you usual suspect? or one of the lurkers? ah, there's several of these

IAmLouisWalsh Tue 26-Feb-13 21:22:42

Ok, you are responsible for me nearly crashing the car when I saw the advert on a bus shelter tonight. The kids couldn't understand why I suddenly burst put laughing and swerved

IAmLouisWalsh - you did the right thing. I swerve away from Flora now too.

MarmaladeTwatkins Tue 26-Feb-13 21:32:17

<licks RIZZ0>

"Like that horrible TV show 'Cheaters' - people caught cheating on camera purely for entertainment purposes."

I LOVE that programme!

Primafacie Tue 26-Feb-13 23:46:51

Butter late than never - can anyone explain how does one cheat at Connect 4 confused?

OP, what is your position on sports cheats? Have you written to cricket federation about game rigging? How about the Olympics - any chance of finding a different vent for your strong feelings there? What about Silvio Berlusconi? Boris Johnson? Dominique Strauss Khan? Chris Huhne? They all cheated their way to the front page. I assume you are writing to them that they are setting a bad example?

Can you also make a note never to watch Homeland, the Killing, Madmen, SATC, Desperate Housewives, indeed just switch the tv off and don't read books either. Cheaters are EVERYWHERE. Perhaps because the mix of love, lust, guilt and secrecy sells well. If only this could be channelled through advertising. Oh hang on...

I used butter and marg in a recipe tonight.

I guess that makes me worse than a cheater shock

TiggyD Wed 27-Feb-13 09:31:30

Try to think of 'cheating' as 'taking the upgrade for a trial run'.

Pigsmummy Wed 27-Feb-13 17:16:22

Have your 103 Facebook friends complained to Flora too?

6 of them have said that they would.
The rest didn't seem too bothered.
Think I may be needing a cull of FB friends if that's their attitude to cheating. sad

Skinnywhippet Wed 27-Feb-13 19:56:28

Calm down dear, it's only a commercial!

searching4serenity Wed 27-Feb-13 22:18:52

Great thread... Flora is revolting though! Long live butter!

gimmecakeandcandy Wed 27-Feb-13 22:24:46

Really? You need to chill out and get a life. How utterly and totally ridiculous of you.

HildaOgden Wed 27-Feb-13 22:25:04

I just want to know if the FB friend who deleted you over this is named 'Marge'

gimmecakeandcandy Wed 27-Feb-13 22:25:59

Yes do cull your fb friends - you'd be doing them a massive favour by getting yourself off their list.

Mooshbag Sun 03-Mar-13 07:35:19

I thought the cake thread was hilarious, not really getting this one though. <sense of humour fail>

Kytti Sun 03-Mar-13 07:46:54

Are you taking the piss? Really?

You should listen to your Mum more.

greensleeves are you and the OP one and the very same?
Do I win my £5 and a tray of perfect cakes? (made with butter please)

SilentSplendidSun Sun 03-Mar-13 07:55:13

Why does your title have capitals for every word? I feel very strongly about this. I have recently severed all ties wit 5 friends because they did not write in the correct manner.

Fakebook Sun 03-Mar-13 08:00:39

I am cringing with embarrassment on your behalf. Bet you've given Flora Something to laugh about though.

Thisvehicleisreversing Mon 09-Sep-13 13:46:30

I'd love to know what the OP thinks about the new Flora buttery ad grin

extracrunchy Mon 09-Sep-13 14:01:01

I think this might be my favourite thread ever.
