Nothing against her at all, but surely it's a bit early if not actually dare I say risky (the poor woman is only just into her 2nd trimester for gods sake), to be shortlisting her for Mum of the Year?????? Give her a chance to actually be a mum first, SURELY?? confused

FBmum Wed 20-Feb-13 19:14:26

Sorry - Duchess of Cornwall for all you Royal diehards!!! smile

Bobyan Wed 20-Feb-13 19:15:24

Its because she's has so much experience grin

kim147 Wed 20-Feb-13 19:15:45

Because of our sycophantic celebrity culture?
Not sure what she's actually done to be nominated.

ok, yeah, it is silly to call someone mum of the year who hasn't had their baby.

Johnnysknickers Wed 20-Feb-13 19:16:58

Wasn't Kerry Katona a previous mum of the year? grin

FBmum Wed 20-Feb-13 19:18:46

grin at Johnnysknickers - I'd forgotten about Kerry Katona - do you think we will see Kate advertising Iceland in years to come?

RichardSimmonsTankTop Wed 20-Feb-13 19:18:51

What? How can she be the list when I, who actually have children and have put in a reasonable amount of effort at mothering, is not! How insulting!

Johnnysknickers Wed 20-Feb-13 19:19:15

It's all downhill from here... grin

Viviennemary Wed 20-Feb-13 19:21:10

Errm Duchess of Cornwall. That's Camilla. grin

Bobyan Wed 20-Feb-13 19:21:27

I can't imagine her eating anything, let alone Iceland's stuff!

FBmum Wed 20-Feb-13 19:22:27

Ooh blimey, I'm getting my Duchesses mixed up. Mind you that really WOULD be a story!

Cuddlyrunner Wed 20-Feb-13 19:27:04

I saw this earlier and thought it was dreadful , a hundred years or so ago when I had ds1, a baby mag (possibly Mother and Baby) had a page of celebrity babies born that month. Obviously they do the mags a couple of months before publication. Annie Lennox was congratulated on the safe birth of her child. She had actually suffered a stillbirth.

catus Wed 20-Feb-13 19:35:20

Who cares? Really?
And I quite like her btw.

Viviennemary Wed 20-Feb-13 19:38:59

That's just what I was thinking FBmum! grin

hiddenhome Wed 20-Feb-13 19:55:32

Mum of the Year should be given to somebody who's struggled against the odds in some way, not a pampered Royal who will never have to do a great many of the things that normal mums find themselves doing year in year out hmm

missorinoco Wed 20-Feb-13 19:58:38

I have no problem with a Royal getting the title, but I cannot see how you can be Mum of the Year if you have no children, dependants, or foster children. Why not William then?

FBmum Wed 20-Feb-13 20:02:43

Next year, it will be given to whichever piece of totty illustrious young lady Harry is knocking about with...

kim147 Wed 20-Feb-13 20:04:31

Who's running "Mum of the year"?
What's the criteria to win?

cocoachannel Wed 20-Feb-13 20:05:16

What do you win?

HazeltheMcWitch Wed 20-Feb-13 20:08:29

Fearne Cotton and Dame Sarah Storey are also on the list - neither have yet given birth.

FBmum Wed 20-Feb-13 20:09:46

Oh, it's ok everyone, it can't be a real thing - I managed to find an article about it in the Daily Fail (Google made me read it, honest), and
previous winners have included Stacy Solomon, Kym Marsh and Sharon Osbourne, while Katie Price and Kerry Katona have both been Mum of the Year on more than one occasion.

Obviously, it must be some sort of wind-up. hmm

Hey, the reigning queen is Katie Price ...

Look, the thing is - these things are just shite made up by public relations (PR) companies, to get the name of their client (in this case, Foxy Bingo), talked and written about. And to position it 'just so' in the minds of their target audience. It's all just made up...

The shortlist is just appealing people, who can appear in the first swathe of articles. Probably with pictures. Putting Kate Middleton's name in anything will get it press.

Phase 2 will be announcing the winner. Here, they'll need someone who will show up and pose with trophy etc. So it needs to be someone a bit fame-hungry. Looking at the shortlist ( statutory DM warning, etc), I predict that Una Healey will win. I an't imagine the rest of them being arsed with it all. Unless Lily Allen wants the press (she's back in the studio recording new music). The Sats will always do stuff for press.

If Debbie Daly or Sarah Storey win, it is a sign that they're chasing down media careers. My money is still on Una.

FBmum Wed 20-Feb-13 20:21:12

Please, McWitch, who are all these people? where did they come from? What do they do?

* puts down horlicks and reaches for zimmer frame *

HazeltheMcWitch Wed 20-Feb-13 20:34:38

The Duchess of Cambridge - married her prince. No obvious opinion nor personality. Not sure if you've heard, but she is with child.
Dame Sarah Storey - has a mere 11 gold Paralympic medals!!. Across 2 sports.
Adele - you know who she is, right?
Victoria Beckham - ditto
Debbie Daly - Tom Daly's mum. Odd that she's on the list, as she's not done anything media-wise other than talking about Tom.
Fearne Cotton - was a kids' TV presenter back in the day. Got some tattoos, got a show on RAdio 1, got together with a Rollig Stone's (ex-step)kid and is soon to give birth. 'Designs' clothes for a catalogue with her televisual best friend...
Holly Willoughby - who was a kids' TV presenter back in the day. Has large norks, appears as Philip Schofield's thick, sycophantic sidekick on the tellybox.
Lily Allen - pop singer. Has 2 young kids now after a series of tragic losses.
Una Healey - in a girlband called The Saturdays, who are DESPERATE for fame. Una has a kid, is married to a rugby player.

thebody Wed 20-Feb-13 20:35:07

What a load of old bollocks. She isn't even a mum yet! Ffs.

Live to hear about her doing the night feeds!!!

FBmum Wed 20-Feb-13 20:38:41

McWitch, I think I love you. I am so down with the kids now. And grin at your description of Holly Willoughby ("norks"! * snigger* ), but blush about not recognising Sarah Storey...

someoftheabove Wed 20-Feb-13 20:45:31

Perhaps it's a misprint and should be bum of the year? Just a thought.

It is a bit like Obama getting Nobels Peace price 2 seconds after he was elected president before he had even managed to do a thing, let alone paint the white house pink!

midastouch Wed 20-Feb-13 20:55:08

Really? thats ridiculous! But then how do we know which of those on the list are good mothers?

Greensleeves Wed 20-Feb-13 20:58:10

Hahaha her baby is about the size of a borlotti bean grin

still, she's already a better parent than Kerry Katona

Eskino Wed 20-Feb-13 21:06:45

Rhiannon86 grin

happybubblebrain Wed 20-Feb-13 21:15:19

Just give her all the awards in the world. I don't care.
Best hair.
Best husband.
Best house.
Best of everything for doing the least.

Viviennemary Wed 20-Feb-13 21:19:12

But it's a royal borlotti bean. And as such must be revered by all.

willesden Wed 20-Feb-13 21:30:34

Please god let Kate beat Fearne Cotton. Cannot bear that bint.

plinkyplonks Wed 20-Feb-13 21:44:28

Hilarious !! I agree - great advertising for the awards :P

missorinoco Wed 20-Feb-13 21:55:07

Borlotti bean! Snortle.

I do think there needs to be some sort of an offspring type thing to fit the criteria of Mum of the Year. Pedantic I may be.

Doesn't the Queen have a list of foods with royal approval? Should we try to get borlotti beans on it?
