to really dislike Christine Blakely and wish she wasn't on TV?

cleoowen Sun 17-Feb-13 20:01:47

Not sure exactly why but I really cannot stand, her and,she ruins dancing on ice for me.

She just seems, too much of a WAG and really false. I don't feel like she, cares about any of the contestants on the show and is way too thin. She's not a good, presenter either.

What do others think?

CockyFox Sun 17-Feb-13 20:05:49

I think she is a bit non-descript, nothing about how she looks or presents jumps out at me as good or bad. There are far worse presenters on TV but many better as well.

ifancyashandy Sun 17-Feb-13 20:13:14

I think her presenter skills are lacking.

I think she had an established career before she fell in love with her footie boyfriend.

I think she looks stunning. Not too thin. I hate the way women criticise other women for their appearance.

cleoowen Sun 17-Feb-13 20:24:22

I was criticising her more for,her presenting skills and lack of empathy in my opinion. I cannot understand how she has managed to have a career in presenting. She just doesn't seem genuine and,has no connection with the audience or any of,the team on dancing on ice.

Flisspaps Sun 17-Feb-13 20:25:55

I was put off her by an article she wrote for Glamour magazine a couple of years ago, about how the press had published a photo of her looking fat.

She didn't look remotely fat, and it made me cross. She didn't even have a roll of fat on her, she had one normal skin roll and was sitting on a boat in a bikini.

I stopped buying Glamour after that - cancelled my subscription. I just felt that if they were publishing a woman of her size saying she looked fat, then they didn't represent me (definitely fat)

I've never taken to her since that.

ifancyashandy Sun 17-Feb-13 20:35:19

'...and is way too thin'.

Criticism of a woman's apprearance, no?

TidyDancer Sun 17-Feb-13 20:36:55

YANBU. Can't stand the woman.

RobinSparkles Sun 17-Feb-13 20:38:30

How come she's presenting Dancing On Ice? What's happened to Holly?

Porkster Sun 17-Feb-13 20:38:46

I know it's wrong to say it, but I can't stand her accent.

Hi there, I don't know if I have my facts right but I feel that she 'stole' Frank Lampard from Ellen Rivas. Was there an overlap or not?

TWinklyLittleStar Sun 17-Feb-13 20:40:02

Holly left to do The Voice

I'm from belfast and I can't stand her voice either.

RobinSparkles Sun 17-Feb-13 20:40:05

"Death is far too good for both of them."

That's a bit harsh!

MrsCR Sun 17-Feb-13 20:40:45

Way too thin, she has CHANGED - whats going on with her? Trying to prove something after daybreak disaster perhaps?

merlottits Sun 17-Feb-13 20:41:15

Awful presenter, unpleasant on the ear accent, horses teeth, no empathy, just horrible. Bleugh.

superstarheartbreaker Sun 17-Feb-13 20:41:28

I think saying that deeath is far too good for both of them is a little extreme! Good gracious but for some reason I have her down as a home wrecker.

Oreocrumbs Sun 17-Feb-13 20:42:08

She really irritates me too. I think she is very wooden and always looks condescending and like she has much better things to be doing then talking to this pleb.

whateveritakes Sun 17-Feb-13 20:42:42

I hate the way women criticise other women for their appearance.

So do I but it's all about appearance. Why doesn't anyone go on with their own style instead of identikit bright dress, flicky hair, heels.

whateveritakes Sun 17-Feb-13 20:43:50

Put me off when she said she didn't like dogs.

Hopefully that's put her out of the running for any nature type programmes.

ThingsThatMakeYouGoHmmmmmmmmm Sun 17-Feb-13 20:44:37

Frank Lampard......on the plump side............really??hmm

PuffPants Sun 17-Feb-13 20:45:42

I don't like her accent or her orange Oompa Loompa-ness. She looks radioactive.

That aside I do think she has a cracking body, very gym-fit rather than diet-coke and fags thin.

I think she will disappear to the US soon with Frank. She won't get work out there though as they won't be able to understand her.

Arisbottle Sun 17-Feb-13 20:46:51

Totally unnecessary to judge someone based on their looks but she does have an image issue and finds it difficult to connect . She comes across quite cold for me and lacking in personality.

mynewpassion Sun 17-Feb-13 20:47:04

My pet hate for her was her incessant giggling on Daybreak. That was annoying. Other than that, she's ok.

I think Frank and Elen had already broken up awhile before he got together with Christine.

NoraSpect Sun 17-Feb-13 20:48:28

Yanbu. I can't stand her.

Trazzletoes Sun 17-Feb-13 20:50:27

There was no overlap as far as I am aware and I'm addicted to celeb mags

wigglesrock Sun 17-Feb-13 20:51:04

Jesus, she's too skinny, she's too orange, she "stole" her boyfriend, people can't understand her accent - fuck me I'm not her biggest fan but its all a bit extreme isn't it? So don't watch?

andubelievedthat Sun 17-Feb-13 20:52:46

Yeah, it was realising she was to thin that done it for me too, how dare she be so?

cleoowen Sun 17-Feb-13 20:53:17

Ok let's stick to the other opinions I have said on the original post then. Her being too thin was more of an after thought.
not wanting a argument about that.

I thought she dated frank way after he split from his wife but could be wrong. Not got anything against what she does in her own, life just get her off,the TV!

She tries too hard,to seem like she cares and,is fun,and nice like laughing in interviews and touching contestants hands but it just seems so fake.

Think holly left to have her baby.

carlywurly Sun 17-Feb-13 20:53:28

What a horrid bitchy thread this is. hmm

LessMissAbs Sun 17-Feb-13 20:55:21

I can't stand her either. Shes very wooden and its so obvious shes reading off a script. She doesn't connect with either the audience or the contestants, or even the judges, because no empathy shines through. I don't think shes talented. Maybe she needs further training or something - is there a charm school for tv presenters?

Aesthetically, I don't think shes attractive either as her face is strangely wrinkled for her age, but then Frank Lampard is hardly a looker. Although actually I can't stand the female presenters as barbie doll thing on these reality tv programmes - Tess Daly being a prime example, although not as bad a presenter.

Can't stand Philip Schofield either. I so wish the talented and charismatic Jane Torville and Christopher Dean, with their amazing chemistry, could simply present the entire programme! Both look fantastic too.

MrsDeVere Sun 17-Feb-13 20:57:16

FGS the woman is a tv presenter working in light entertainment.
She does her job adequately.

I don't get the hatez at all confused

Its the same for women presenters in her field. They get slaughtered for not being intellectual enough for The One Show or Dancing on Ice confused <again>

Remotecontrolduck Sun 17-Feb-13 21:02:14

I find how orange she is a bit off putting, but she's not too skinny in my opinion. Some of the posts on this thread are ridiculous, wishing death on her?! Nice!

MechanicalTheatre Sun 17-Feb-13 21:05:52

If you don't like her, don't watch.

She "stole" Frank Lampard? How did she "steal" him? Is he a fucking object without a brain of his own?

She is "too thin"? But no doubt if she was bigger than a size six, there'd be people saying she was too fat.

She has a horrible accent? I suppose it was so much better when there was nothing but RP on the telly.

I am really glad that I'm not a woman in the public eye.

Thingiebob Sun 17-Feb-13 21:07:47

I always thought she was quite an accomplished presenter.

I have no strong feelings about her looks or her private life.

WorraLiberty Sun 17-Feb-13 21:08:50

And still people think low self esteem and eating disorders in young women are down to the media and the 'menz'....

What a nasty thread.

By all means criticise her work but her body and her love life?

babybarrister Sun 17-Feb-13 21:09:49

From the school gates i can say that Frank is v luuuuurnly indeed and in no way plump and she seems quite pleasant tho yes v orange!

saycheeeeeese Sun 17-Feb-13 21:16:55

She has a fake posh NI accent which I detest, im from NI and can't stand people who sound that way. So for that reason I don't watch her at all.

noviceoftheday Sun 17-Feb-13 21:17:20

Wow OP. not a lot going on in your life then? hmm

I think mechanicaltheatre said it all. Nasty thread.

ErikNorseman Sun 17-Feb-13 21:20:50

YANBU. She's odd looking, all fake tan and huge tombstones veneers. She has no talent or charisma.

MechanicalTheatre Sun 17-Feb-13 21:22:52

Gosh, this thread is really opening my eyes.

Updating my spreadsheet here.

Shenanagins Sun 17-Feb-13 21:23:06

She didn't steal frank lampard from Ellen rives. She had binned him after he was caught being unfaithful.

MechanicalTheatre Sun 17-Feb-13 21:25:39

Obviously she didn't "steal" him because one does not "steal" human beings unless we are talking about a kidnap situation.

Are we to believe that in addition to her other crimes of having a face and a body and teeth that people don't approve of, she is also a possible kidnapper?

landofsoapandglory Sun 17-Feb-13 21:26:49

I'd love to see pictures of all you perfect women!

She is pretty harmless I think. But then if she, or any other presenter for that matter, annoyed me as much as she seems to annoy a lot of you I would use the off button on my remote, or turn over and watch something else!

germyrabbit Sun 17-Feb-13 21:27:47

the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog

GetOrf Sun 17-Feb-13 21:28:55

Fucking hell. Perhaps I am being a mealy mouthed twat but I'm reporting that for its sheer vileness.

FWIW I don't watch anything she is in but I think she seems pleasant, is good looking and has a lovely accent. Why the hatred?

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey Sun 17-Feb-13 21:31:44

YANBU, i can't stand her either, but......i had a dream about Frank Lampard last week and if it is true she's a very lucky woman blush

I don't find her particularly offensive, i think she does an okay job. I don't think she deserves the insults she's got on this thread!

YABU at still watching "Dancing on Ice"!!!! Definitely past it's best especially since Shayne Ward got booted off the other week

TheCraicDealer Sun 17-Feb-13 21:38:25

My boss' wife worked with her when she was in BBC NI in a back room role. Apparently she's lovely, a nice person who came back for an ex colleague's wedding this summer, despite not seeing them for years. That doesn't sound like someone who steps on people on their way to the top.

chickensarmpit Sun 17-Feb-13 21:42:32

I can't stand the woman and I turn the channel over if she pops up. Why on earth is she still in the public eye? She should slither back under her rock.

cleoowen Sun 17-Feb-13 21:43:01

Novice. I have alot going on in my life thanks very much. A 9 week old keeps me busy. It was just a light hearted thread about someone who's presenting skills I dislike and so does seem to wind,me up, unnecessarily I guess. I retracted my opinion about her weight so do not think my post is nasty. I am simply stating an opinion. Others on the, thread have made personal comments about her not me.

I simply was discussing the fact that for me she goes some way towards ruining a show,I like. I cannot understand how she managed,to get into presenting, especially in such popular shows.

i dont like her either. i miss holly

emalushka Sun 17-Feb-13 21:43:55

I have nothing to say about her looks, but she's a terrible presenter. I hate the way she giggles and she doesn't seem to have any connection with the audience or the judging panel. I think in one of the earlier episodes of this series she got one of the contestants names wrong and fluffed her lines. She is a very much 'read the autocue' presenter and she spoils dancing on ice for me. I used to watch it every week, but have hardly seen this series.

hermioneweasley Sun 17-Feb-13 21:46:33

She is orange, and has no warmth. I am sure all Tv presenters get where they are through pretty unpleasant ambition and ruthlessness, but you can just see it in her, whereas Lorraine Kelly (for example) masks it pretty well.

MechanicalTheatre Sun 17-Feb-13 21:55:19

Oh please, Lorraine Kelly is renowned for being deeply unpleasant.

cleoowen Sun 17-Feb-13 22:02:41

Really? What evidence,is there about Lorraine? Thought she was known for being nice.

Nancy66 Sun 17-Feb-13 22:07:34

I find her very turnoffable as well.

Blimey, I'm not a fan of CB - think she's lacking in charisma and not a great presenter. I've even been known to be a bit snarky on Twitter while watching Dancing on Ice but the bitchiness on this thread is making me look like an absolute saint. Wishing death on people just because you don't like the way they present a light entertainment programme? shock

Adversecamber Sun 17-Feb-13 22:14:56

I'm scared of her teeth

Clawdy Sun 17-Feb-13 22:24:20

But does anyone remember her on the One Show? She was lovely, natural and relaxed and looked quite different.

Lorraine is falser than my granny's teeth.

Stock phrases being,

"And you, you look great, really fab"
"I love that, love it".
"That's fab, you're fab".

And so on, I actually used to like her until I had an epiphany and realised how deeply sycophantic and false she is.

deleted203 Sun 17-Feb-13 22:35:05

Dreadful, IMO. Awful horsey face, skeletally thin, voice that grates. Lacks presenting skills and is terribly wooden. It pisses me off that she's paid a fortune for a job she's shit at, TBH.

MechanicalTheatre Sun 17-Feb-13 22:38:50

I think that every time you slag off someone's looks, you should get slagged off back.

That'd soon shut people up.

ChewinTheFat Sun 17-Feb-13 22:51:33

I can't take to her on DOI

Not because she's too skinny/too orange/ has big teeth, I just think Holly Willobooby had a better connection. CB looks like she can't wait to get home.

SoleSource Sun 17-Feb-13 23:30:39

I like her. Beautiful too. Good luck to her, why not? smile

greensmoothiegoddess Mon 18-Feb-13 15:05:52

Bloody Nora- what a nasty lot of posts on this thread. Very playground / school gates / judgy. I have a sick feeling in my stomach. What hope is there for the rest of us?

I think she is perfectly nice fwiw. I have never seen her in DOI but she was lovely on the One Show and, dare I say it, Daybreak. She seems well thought of in the industry. If she wants to look the way she does then bloody well good on her, I say. Shouldn't we all have that choice without having aspersions cast upon us?

NinaHeart Mon 18-Feb-13 15:08:43

YANBU as I don't like her either and said as much to my husband yesterday. He seems to like her more than I do....
(Talentless lollipop WAG with annoying voice)

squoosh Mon 18-Feb-13 15:31:26

I find her bland and inane and giggly and a bit vacant, but luckily my taste in television programmes never overlap with things she's involved in. It boggles my mind that ITV paid mega buks to lure her and the equally rubbish Adrian Chiles over from the BBC. Seems to have backfired somewhat however!

She's a gorgeous looking girl have no clue why she (and everyone else on tv these days it seems) has opted for false teeth like veneers.

Still maintain that Pippy Schofield is far more of an annoyance. What a cock he is.

HoHoHoNoYouDont Mon 18-Feb-13 16:50:34

I caught a glimpse of her on DOI last night and my immediate reaction was to comment on how over processed they've made her look. I don't think it suits her, she looks so much better toned down when she presented the one show. Also, I think presenters on DOI, X factor and Strictly are all robotic. The role doesn't exactly demand much from them does it, not like interviewing someone would.

WipsGlitter Mon 18-Feb-13 16:55:02

I've met her a few times and my wider family had close contact with her and she is lovely. Really genuine and nice and down to earth. I think she's a wee but older than she lets on tho!

LessMissAbs Mon 18-Feb-13 16:59:40

To be fair, female tv presenters are picked in this country for being a certain age and for being attractive. It cannot therefore be surprising that one half of the population don't fall for this and judge them instead on their presenting skills. Perhaps if male tv presenters were picked for the same reasons, it would balance out, although some of the female tv presenters are so woefully bad at the act of presenting, the programme would fall to pieces if the male counterpart was similar!

MechanicalTheatre Mon 18-Feb-13 17:03:36

So because there is sexism in the media, we should respond sexism.

That Davina McCall is an ugly hoor, eh?

I agree - really don't like her much.
DOI is not the same anymore.
My OH, who loves a good WAG really doesn't like her either!??
Go figure!

EnjoyResponsibly Mon 18-Feb-13 17:09:54

Obviously I don't dislike her as I don't know her.

But if she was never on telly or featured in the sidebar of shame ever again I have to confess I would be utterly unfussed.

Fuck, this is a nasty thread, god its depressing that when a woman does well she is picked apart and slagged off.

deleted203 Mon 18-Feb-13 17:12:58

I think personally, that if you are going to put yourself forward in the public eye and be paid ridiculous amounts of money for doing the job, then you can hardly object if people scrutinise you and have an opinion on how well you are able to do it.

If you are accepting a job on the basis that some middle aged male executive has thought, 'oh she's good looking - let's get her' you need to accept that a fair proportion of viewers are eyeing you sardonically and thinking, 'Actually she's not very attractive, sets a poor example to teenage girls on body issues, and, more importantly, she's a dreadful presenter'.

I have very little time for women who trade on their supposed looks rather than on professional ability, and every respect for women who forge a professional career on hard work and talent.

MardyBraWouldDoEddieRedmayne Mon 18-Feb-13 17:16:01

I just came on the thread to ask whatever happened to sisterhood, but I see that others have already got here.

Dull thread anyway. Can you imagine if we all started threads saying: "AIBU to dislike _ (insert personality name)"?

kirstys23 Mon 18-Feb-13 17:19:17

YABU. And so is everybody else who stating another woman's appearance on this thread.

LessMissAbs Mon 18-Feb-13 17:27:36

Mardy would "sisterhood" in this context not mean highlighting the sexism in tv and stating that there is an alternative to attractive young women? There are many tv presenters I would love to see made more use of on such programmes, but since they are now considered "too old" or perhaps not attractive enough, we are stuck with the ones that quite a high proportion of women find annoying. eg Arlene Phillips substituted by a far inferior presenter, Tess Daly - little presenting experience (although I get the impression she has at least worked hard to better her presenting skills), Angela Rippon, etc..

If I were a middle aged man, I might feel different.

squoosh Mon 18-Feb-13 17:36:21

TV presenters are chosen on the premise that people will like them, that's their usp. Sometimes people don't like them. That's ok. Most light entertainment presenters, male and female are dull, smug and annoying.

I don't agree with slating her appearance but people are well within their rights to dislike her without feeling they are letting the 'sisterhood' down.

MechanicalTheatre Mon 18-Feb-13 17:38:21

Sisterhood means sticking up for women in whatever way you see fit.

I cannot STAND this constant policing of other women's looks and then people defending their actions: well, they asked for it, they're on telly.

Fine. But if you don't think that that then affects you in daily life as well, you are not very bright.

MechanicalTheatre Mon 18-Feb-13 17:39:27

squoosh I couldn't give a shit if people don't like her. I haven't had a telly in years, so I barely know who she is. I doubt I'd be her biggest fan though.

What I hate is people going on about what other women look like. It is a fucking disgrace.

MardyBraWouldDoEddieRedmayne Mon 18-Feb-13 18:44:32

LessMiss MechanicalTheatre has answered your point very eloquently.

Neither berating Christine Bleakley for being too thin or Mary Beard for not being groomed enough for TC are are particularly constructive. I do agree that there is sexism in TV and that the looksism (? I think I've just made that up) and ageism is particularly punitive against women. But if a woman is attractive and thin, that doesn't necessarily mean she is a bad presenter.

If this thread had read CB is annoying because she has no empathy, then fair enough. But it reads that CB is annoying because she has no empathy, looks like a WAG and is too thin, so the OP is BU.

Arisbottle Mon 18-Feb-13 18:56:24

Not everyone has commented on her appearance, I certainly haven't. The sisterhood does not mean pretending women have skills that they don't.

StickEmUp Mon 18-Feb-13 18:59:00

I nearly agreed until you said too thin. BMI wise i am 'too thin'.
Are there people who talk about me like this sad i hope not

MechanicalTheatre Mon 18-Feb-13 19:00:53

Eloquence is fine, I never said she'd answered otherwise. Not sure what that has to do with anything.

MardyBraWouldDoEddieRedmayne Mon 18-Feb-13 19:20:33

Arisbottle tbh I haven't read the thread. I was working from the OP and the first few comments.
