to say that you DON'T need to mark your place on a thread in order to read the deletion message

You can still view the deletion message if you try and visit the thread from your phone or browser history.

Then there is no need to fill up a stirry gossippy bitchy thrilling thread with christ knows how many 'marking place's and '.'

Ilovexmastime Sat 16-Feb-13 18:32:55

Hear hear!

BumpingFuglies Sat 16-Feb-13 18:34:07

No you don't but the "collective waiting" nosiness camaraderie can be quite entertaining.

GetOrf Sat 16-Feb-13 18:49:54

Yes but now threads which are interesting are now 50 percent deletion message placeholders.

Well perhaps not 50 percent. A lot though.

mirry2 Sat 16-Feb-13 18:51:37

Just place the thread in the ;I'm watching' section. Easy.

GetOrf Sat 16-Feb-13 18:53:59

I have never used threads I'm watching.

<marks place>

BreadForMyBREADGUN Sat 16-Feb-13 18:55:26

Yeah, but you need to remember where the thread is and save it or something. Much easier to post and just have it on TIO.

<lazy>

FeijoaVodkaAndCheezels Sat 16-Feb-13 18:59:00

I put a suspect thread in my threads list. It disappeared with out a trace. I should have made up something to say and place mark.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Sat 16-Feb-13 18:59:01

Why don't you use Threads I'm Watching Getorf?

GetOrf Sat 16-Feb-13 19:02:13

I don't know why I don't use it! Mind you I was on mumsnet for about 4 years before I fathomed out what flip thread meant grin

I think it's just as easy to go to my history and click on the thread from there, I suppose. If it has been deleted it's still there and you get the deletion message even if you have never posted on it.

BreadForMyBREADGUN Sat 16-Feb-13 19:02:58

True, never thought of that

<dunce>

RustyBear Sat 16-Feb-13 19:04:15

Threads I'm watching doesn't work -I was watching the one that was deleted this afternoon and it's just not there now, no deletion message. It is on maryz's congratulations thread, though and on Bluelights follow-up thread (though slightly different wording, not sure which one is accurate)

ShipwreckedAndComatose Sat 16-Feb-13 19:05:12

Oh goody!

A sneaky thread about a deleted thread!!

grin

The message doesn't come up on TIW - or at least it didn't. And my iPad keeps randomly wiping my history.

Meglet Sat 16-Feb-13 19:12:19

cool! It works.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Sat 16-Feb-13 19:16:13

Oh good, I thought you would give some erudite, sensitive reason and I'd have to stop using it too!

nickelbabe Sat 16-Feb-13 19:22:29

oh getorf you miss the funthat way.
marking your place is a way of saying "I waz there"
.
and it's fun.
and it reminds you to check.

nickelbabe Sat 16-Feb-13 19:25:53

haha.
I've told the teacher on you.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Sat 16-Feb-13 19:30:32

It does get a bit boring though when half the posts on a long thread are just placemarking.

Placemarking bollocks and twaddle is fine grin

GetOrf Sat 16-Feb-13 19:37:29

Eh? It's not a thread about a thread.

Fair enough posting twaddle, but I think if you are interested enough in the thread you could post something, and not just a full stop or 'marking place' - it makes the threads really boring to read when everyone does it.

Plus (selfishly) you see a thread which has a few hundred posts and you get all excited and think it's a row interesting discussion and it's a bit disappointing when most of the posts are markers.

Tee2072 Sat 16-Feb-13 19:44:38

Marking place...

FloatyBeatie Sat 16-Feb-13 19:45:02

Does seem a tad daft that mnhq have devised a system of deletion messages that just results in problem threads getting repeatedly bumped by place markers. A whole new source of attention for trolls.

BelindaCarlisle Sat 16-Feb-13 19:45:36

yup you are all sad fuckers
but mostly getorf

( btw getorf if you were on twitter you could chat about clinique chubby sticks for EYES)

BelindaCarlisle Sat 16-Feb-13 19:46:09

i ranted about marking space posts the other day.

use the bookmark thing guys or watched threads or go and get a life

.

grin

Tee2072 Sat 16-Feb-13 19:51:13

Adversecamber Sat 16-Feb-13 19:51:36

So what was the deletion message, anything good?

RustyBear Sat 16-Feb-13 19:55:12

Watched threads doesn't work Belinda...

nickelbabe Sat 16-Feb-13 19:58:48

it was good. it's in site stuff.

sorry getorf.
I can't check my emails but they probably said "don't be such a tattle tale, we're not deleting it for that"

GetOrf Sat 16-Feb-13 19:59:58

Lol at sad fuckers, esp getorf grin

BelindaCarlisle Sat 16-Feb-13 20:00:15

it does weirdo grin

I was about to say YANBU - and then my Threads I'm Watching went completely kaput confused

I still think people should pretend to have something to contribute to a thread though, [ . ] is the rudest thing on earth. Well maybe not quite that bad

What was the deleted message by the way? wink

GetOrf Sat 16-Feb-13 20:01:13

They'll probably delete it nickel.

Then you will be greyed out on my spreadsheet grin

GetOrf Sat 16-Feb-13 20:03:07

The deletion message wasn't the best.

Poor mnhq have created a rod for their own back with the whole deletion message thing.

I long for a message which says 'deleted for...oh just all of you go FUCK yourselves'

BelindaCarlisle Sat 16-Feb-13 20:03:36

the deleted message was a home video of Justine running around with her top over her head saying

" they are all such sad fucking bitches, I am going to sell the site to Yahoo".

And Carrie filing her nails in the background.

BelindaCarlisle Sat 16-Feb-13 20:04:03

and that is an Official Rumour.
Oh yes
VERY likely.

Gutted I didn't [ . ] it then now, Belinda grin

Actually I think Justine quite likes us fucking bitches, it's the rest of MNHQ who despair.

"It's alright for you Justine, we only have to drag you in when they're actually storming the barricades of MNHQ, we have to deal with this crazy shit EVERY BLOODY DAY..."

nickelbabe Sat 16-Feb-13 20:16:05

you know we're all adults and it's Saturday night but we're all sitting around like schoolgirls trying to see who can break teacher first.
grin

sittinginthesun Sat 16-Feb-13 20:19:05

I'm so upset about this. I spend hours on here, and have NEVER seen a deletion message. hmm

nickelbabe Sat 16-Feb-13 20:59:09
sittinginthesun Sat 16-Feb-13 21:05:06

Ah, thank you Nickle! Now, just need a nudge when there's one brewing. smile

Sorry, after a spot too much wine I am confused - is, or isn't, it possible to get the deletion messages from the "I'm Watching" list?

Not sure why I'm asking mind you, any deleted threads I'm on only ever have the "...for breaking Talk Guidlines" explanation sad

Maryz Mon 18-Feb-13 15:25:14

You can't see them from TIW - I asked for that.

And you can only see them if they are deleted if you have bookmarked them in some way - so if you are an old gimmer and using Classic, you can only see them if you have posted on them.

I might have pointed out once or twice that it's a bit silly hmm

nickelbabe Mon 18-Feb-13 15:29:18

it's not silly.

I think you have to mark your place (well, unless miss snitches complain about that too)

It's a MN thing.

Maryz Mon 18-Feb-13 15:30:55

Could I point out, though, while I'm here, that you have to actually type something to mark your place.

Typing . is just rood shock

nickelbabe Mon 18-Feb-13 15:34:23

yyy - absolutely.

even grabbing popcorn and a hard hat is less rude than

.

Ahem Maryz, I think you'll find I already complained about the roodity of the .

You are welcome to second it however grin

SoleSource Mon 18-Feb-13 18:45:13

Xxxxx

hmm

SoleSource Mon 18-Feb-13 18:49:44

hmm

Thanks Maryz.
So the only options are to post something meaningful or use the blank post method? live in hope you refresh at the right moment. Hmm, sounds as though I may need to be on here a bit more so as not to miss anything. grin

The other option is to MN from an iPad or similar so that you can just revisit the deleted page from your history list. As good an excuse as any to get one I suppose grin

ignores option 2 wink

Maryz Mon 18-Feb-13 22:08:07

I am terribly sorry Barbara.

I suspect I may not have RTFT grin

Option 3 is just to admit to being nosy and post "marking place [nosy]".

That's my preferred method atm.

Thanks Maryz smile

Surely option 3 is just fine. Bonus points for the [not a real emoticon]

[over generous with someone else's thread's rules]

BeCool Mon 18-Feb-13 23:06:49

I've never seen a thread deletion message. hmm

I never knew there was a "my history" button. Been here years - serial name changer.

<learns something every day>

BeCool Mon 18-Feb-13 23:11:30

TIW is of a random quality
<being kind>

DearPrudence Mon 18-Feb-13 23:26:42

Where is there a 'my history' button? confused

BeaWheesht Tue 19-Feb-13 06:21:17

A my history button??? Where?!

NoelHeadbands Tue 19-Feb-13 07:07:43

On your device- pc, iPad, phone etc

NoelHeadbands Tue 19-Feb-13 07:10:15

I don't particularly give a shit about the deletion message anyway.
If they're any good you usually get at least three separate threads telling you about it.

Yes that's right, I'm a maverick. A loose cannon.

BeCool Tue 19-Feb-13 10:48:30

I can't find a My History button on either my iphone or PC
<missing out??>

RustyBear Tue 19-Feb-13 12:29:19

On the iPhone, in Safari, touch the Bookmarks book icon at the bottom of the screen. One of the folders listed on the menu will be History. Mine goes back to Feb 9th, not sure if you can change that in Settings.

BeCool Tue 19-Feb-13 13:16:50

OK thanks for that - I use the Ap!
So it's browser History everyone is talking about, not a 'history' provided by MN.
