You'd be embarrassed of that you love, a guilty pleasure?

My friend was round earlier and mocked me because I had Gold, Spandau Ballett and Together in Electric Dreams on my iPod! I just love those songs! There were a few others too and she didn't even know who sang them either but slagged me for the Spandau Ballett number

MrsKeithRichards Sun 03-Feb-13 22:54:55

I love Gangham Style

KatyPeril Sun 03-Feb-13 22:55:51

Probably the Glee albums.

IrnBruChew Sun 03-Feb-13 22:56:11

Just for the record this is lighthearted, just in case I'm told she's a bad friend or similar smile

IrnBruChew Sun 03-Feb-13 22:57:26

I don't dislike Gangnam Style, only because my kids entertain me so much trying to do the dance!

SirIronBottom Sun 03-Feb-13 22:58:15

Probably Viva La Vida and Politik by Coldplay, Glorious Day by Embrace, Temptation by Heaven 17, MacArthur Park by Richard Harris, Born to Die by Lana Del Rey. It's also really not cool to love the Divine Comedy, which I do, to the extent that I have nearly every record Neil Hannon has ever released.

I don't self-define as a Goth, but love Goth music like VNV Nation, Assemblage 23 etc.

Pancakeflipper Sun 03-Feb-13 22:58:28

Obviously LTB and then we'll sing our hearts out to Bryan Adam's Run To You <holding our hairbrushes as we rock it >.

I should really name change for this but -

My name is MissyMoo and I own Barry Manilow does the Hits of the 80s blush

Tortington Sun 03-Feb-13 22:59:36

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe Sun 03-Feb-13 23:00:29

Renee and Renato... "Save your Love". blush

IrnBruChew Sun 03-Feb-13 23:00:41

Haha Barry Manilow!

SirIronBottom Sun 03-Feb-13 23:00:46

The Safety Dance by Men Without Hats. LOVE that tune

What on Earth is wrong with Divine Comedy?? grin

I now have "Something For The Weekend" stuck in my head...

My ultimate cheese album is Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet

Living on a Prayer is NOT cool....but it IS awesome in every way possible.

IrnBruChew Sun 03-Feb-13 23:02:24

I need some more guilty pleasure songs so shall be on YouTube checking these out!

manicbmc Sun 03-Feb-13 23:02:57

I have nothing embarrassing on mine. What's wrong with Duran Duran and stuff? grin

I have mine on shuffle so it can go from Chopin to Annie Lennox to Rolling Stones to Black Sabbath.

Get In My Car by the Hoff. Surprisingly catchy.

MrsKeithRichards Sun 03-Feb-13 23:03:56

I don't think anyone should be embarrassed, music is meant to be enjoyed. On the surface I'm quite an alternative rock chick kind of girl, with quite cool taste in music

But fuck me, I love status quo, went to see them with my ma and pa last year.

SirIronBottom Sun 03-Feb-13 23:04:40

That Hasselhoff song is EXCELLENT

gymboywalton Sun 03-Feb-13 23:04:50

i have reached a stage in life where i am not really embarrassed at all by things like that
i don't care what anyone thinks of my taste in music or clothes or books or shoes or whatever

i like what i like

IrnBruChew Sun 03-Feb-13 23:05:26

Ha when I put mine on shuffle its Very different! I love shuffle!

KatyPeril Sun 03-Feb-13 23:05:40

I have some of these and didn't realise they were guilty!

germyrabbit Sun 03-Feb-13 23:07:11

war of the worlds record and david essex's greatest hits grin i don't think they're guilty but suspect dp does

McNewPants2013 Sun 03-Feb-13 23:07:59

I got far to many cheesy pop music like b*witched, venga boys and s club 7

shesariver Sun 03-Feb-13 23:08:05

I dont think any of my music is embarrassing but no doubt DS whos 20 would disagree if he heard Culture Club Karma Chameleon and every single song Simple Minds have ever made!

cafecito Sun 03-Feb-13 23:08:28

god loads of them are embarrassing grin

IrnBruChew Sun 03-Feb-13 23:08:44

I think becausey friend is a few years younger than me she raised eyebrows at half my songs! She doesn't know what music is IMO haha! I do have a Martin Kemp crush though so can't see him being slated

IrnBruChew Sun 03-Feb-13 23:09:36

I LOVE Simple Minds!!

DisappointedHorse Sun 03-Feb-13 23:09:44

John Denver, not just one song but several albums! I love a bit of country.

cafecito Sun 03-Feb-13 23:09:48

*mine that is

Branleuse Sun 03-Feb-13 23:11:38

i was at the gym the other day and i was about to get off the treadmill when shaddup your face came on my mp3 player. I had no idea it was on there but i managed to do a few extra minutes running so i could mime along

evilgiraffe Sun 03-Feb-13 23:12:39

I love Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon. A-hoooooo! grin It makes me smile every time!

Whoever mentioned War Of the Worlds - LOVE IT! The songs are just amazing....cheesy as hell but it's great. "No Nathaniel No!"

My Dad used to put it on (he had a cassette copy of his vinyl) on long car journeys so it always reminds me of holidays.

CheCazzo Sun 03-Feb-13 23:14:23

I was having a clear up the other day and found a CD single by Michelle McManus. I suppose I must have liked it at some stage to buy it but blush at that now grin

Wanted by The Dooleys grin
We were once at a Dungeon party don't ask and someone put the radio on, and it came on, and I stood over the radio looking vair fierce and <ahem> Dominant so that nobody could turn it off grin blush

whatsforyou Sun 03-Feb-13 23:14:57

I am a bit shocked that someone thinks Embrace is something to be ashamed of shock

I am ashamed of nothing, I have music from the stones, to the wets to darius and everything in between!some I might not listen to much any more but as long as it is a good tune I'll boogie on down smile

ouryve Sun 03-Feb-13 23:16:03

I'm not embarrassed by any of the music I like. Why should I be?

IrnBruChew Sun 03-Feb-13 23:18:57

Exactly whatsforyou I'm the same, I'll even sing along to One Direction, their songs are too catchy, and The Wanted and Taylor Swift!

<runs for cover>

shesariver Sun 03-Feb-13 23:21:18

irnbru showing my age but Ive loved Simple Minds now for nearly 30 years, oh god that makes me sound ancient...

IrnBruChew Sun 03-Feb-13 23:21:34

ouryvr because you will be mocked wink

ScrambledSmegs Sun 03-Feb-13 23:30:58

I'm not embarrassed by it, but I have the Estonian Eurovision entry from 2009 on my iPod. It gets some hmm faces, especially as the album pic has Eurovision emblazoned on it in swirly writing. I don't care, it's beautiful in a weird folk/urban fusion kind of way.

And the bonus is I have utterly no idea what the pretty ladies with string instruments are singing about.

IrnBruChew Sun 03-Feb-13 23:40:02

Ah a girl I worked bought the Eurovision cd every year, I did think "why"? Ha

BreconBeBuggered Sun 03-Feb-13 23:51:52

I don't have any S Club 7/ Bucks Fizz stuff to confess, but for anyone who was reading the Junior Choice thread, I have most of the songs mentioned. I am v. v. v. cool, 'kay?

andubelievedthat Mon 04-Feb-13 01:12:02

i can" t believe i"m "fessing up" to this but... i have a 12" copy of>>>>Boney M"s>>>Daddy Cool"< there ,said it ,had to get it "out there "!!!

ReturnOfEmeraldGreen Mon 04-Feb-13 01:31:29

The Levellers...

ipswichwitch Mon 04-Feb-13 01:40:58

The devil went down to Georgia by Charlie Daniels band.
And I know all the words and even sing along to the fiddle parts!

pissovski Mon 04-Feb-13 08:54:57

agree with MrsKeith and ouryve - I refuse to be shamed/embarrassed by any of the music I like. It is my taste/opinion and anyone else can do one!

<gets off high horse>

Sorry - but this is something that irritates me a bit cos I did have the mickey taken out of me at school a lot "Oh my God you like that" type thing and so now i say sod em!

YeahBuddy Mon 04-Feb-13 09:02:27

I have soooo much cheese on my iPod its unreal! Think The Birdy Song, Macarena etc. I used to be a party dj and haven't quite gotten around to taking it all off grin

WhereTheWildOnesSnow Mon 04-Feb-13 09:15:18

I love Colourblind by Darius!

FeckOffCup Mon 04-Feb-13 09:55:46

I have that Fuck You Right Back song on my mp3 player, remember a few years ago both halves of a couple released songs with the same tune slagging each other off, didn't like his version but I found hers quite amusing.

MrsKeithRichards Mon 04-Feb-13 15:21:13

I remember them FeckOff I really quite liked them but did prefer hers. I'd forgot all about them until his version was on in Poundstretchers before Christmas there <random>

freddiefrog Mon 04-Feb-13 15:27:10

Justin Bieber! Somehow I've managed to merge my playlist with my daughter's and I can't get rid of it.

She's probably equally embarrassed by my Bryan Adams collection

I'll listen to anything except thrash metal, opera and dance music that sounds like car alarms going off. My lack of musical taste is well known to my friends so I'm not embarrassed anymore

freddiefrog Mon 04-Feb-13 15:35:22

Oh, I've just remembered I've got the sound track to Titanic stashed in the back of a cupboard

I am embarrassed by that!

Dinosaurhunter Mon 04-Feb-13 15:50:28

Susan Boyle ! Wild horses I love it .

vladthedisorganised Mon 04-Feb-13 15:57:24

Not ashamed now, but my teenage self would have been horrified at Calling All The Heroes by It Bites. It's a great tune.

I suppose my 'worthy singer/guitarist tackles world issues' albums are probably the ones that embarrass me now. While Love Music Hate Racism is actually quite a good collection, the climate change album that contained the wonderful lyrics "One world/ Let it be free from pollution/ One world/ Stop man's wicked destruction.." and had Suzanne Vega singing about the tragedy of whaling in Japan is so madly right-on it's quite painful now.

drjohnsonscat Mon 04-Feb-13 15:58:46

I have Best of Olivia Newton John on my iPod. For Xanadu and Sam and everything from Grease. Not ashamed grin

BarredfromhavingStella Mon 04-Feb-13 15:58:57

Ricky Martin-Livin La Vi Da Loca, I fucking luv it & can't help but have a little boogie round the kitchen blush

almostanotherday Mon 04-Feb-13 16:02:27

Steps-Chain Reaction smile

bootsycollins Mon 04-Feb-13 16:02:54

I'm not embarrassed but I don't advertise it either but I love the Carpenters, if I'm alone and have the best of on sometimes I indulge myself in a little cry, Karen had a beautiful voice. Has anybody seen the made for tv Carpenters story? It's on the Bio channel sometimes, used to watch it as an innocent child but watched it recently and picked up on weird incest vibes, nothing was said it was just suggested by their behaviour or maybe I'm a sicko? confused

GoEasyPudding Mon 04-Feb-13 16:16:22

I am never ashamed by what I enjoy. I actually get a bit of a thrill when I find that something I like a lot is also something others might scoff at.

Cliff Richard "Wired for Sound"
Five "Keep on Moving"
David Lee Roth "Paradise"
Def Leppard, "Animal"
Falco "Rock me Amedues"
N Dubz "Number 1"

Sorry about N-Dubz, I think I may have crossed the line and I should feel the shame.

Boney M
Bee Gees

Greatest Hits of all of these

A Latin Fever compilation with all sorts of cheesy stuff on it.

Bootsy - that has crossed my mind about the Carpenters too.

ceebeegeebies Mon 04-Feb-13 16:27:47

My iPod is one big embarrassment if anyone was to ever see what was on it wink

In particular, there are songs from Steps, S Club Juniors, Chesney Hawkes, soppy stuff from Chicago (the band, not the musical)...I have great taste in music grin

OP - I also have Together in Electric Dreams which is one of my fave tracks EVER - that is just classic 80's music, not embarrassing smile

IrnBruChew Mon 04-Feb-13 16:36:49

Yeah I love it too ceebeegeebies

Maybe embarrassed was the wrong wording, probably cheesiest songs you love would have been better

Also Total Eclipse of the Heart, can't beat belting that out in the shower!

SkinnybitchWannabe Mon 04-Feb-13 16:43:57

Got to be 5 Star System Addict..loved all their cheesy classic songs

SkinnybitchWannabe Mon 04-Feb-13 16:45:28

Oh and T'pau China in your hand. Now thats a power ballad!

mademred Mon 04-Feb-13 16:49:17

Lying the witch and wardrobe
I can top that, I saw renee and renato in concert when I was child and got their autograph and a kiss from the man himself.i particularly liked the b side of that song, its a lovely day, made my attempts at karoeke sound wounderful.!

weegiemum Mon 04-Feb-13 16:49:31

Elton John & Kiki Dee - Don't go breaking my heart!

It's the first no1 I ever remember. I was five-and-a-half. Love it!

jamdonut Mon 04-Feb-13 17:07:53

I've got A Barry Manilow LP, a Cliff Richard LP, A Neil Diamond LP, A David Essex LP....all bought when I was a young teenager! Then I moved up to Elton John LP's and ELO...then Ultravox and Duran Duran...Then moved on to Marillion!

I also have Spice Girls,Oasis,Robbie Williams and Take That CD's.

I am now the proud owner of all Muse's CD's...These are my pride and joy and what I listen to most of all.Nothing and no-one else comes close.

But I'm still partial to a bit of Olly Murs (I have all his CD's too!!)

GroupieGirl Mon 04-Feb-13 17:16:42

I have quite eclectic tastes, and enjoy going to see random, unsigned bands. But my God I love the Backstreet Boys!

IrnBruChew Mon 04-Feb-13 17:16:58

I have a thing for Olly Murs!

jamdonut an ad came on a few weeks ago for Neil Diamonds greatest hits (I think) I keep forgetting to order it! His songs are so catchy!

drjohnsonscat Mon 04-Feb-13 17:19:50

Cliff seems immune to any sort of rehabilitation. But Move It is actually quite cool blush. And The Young Ones. And The Day I Met Marie

<shows worrying level of Cliff awareness>

andubelievedthat Mon 04-Feb-13 20:25:38

Weegiemum(Glasgow?) that is a killer record! i hunted down a cd with it on it and am old enough to remember dancing to it at the community centre(unnamed!) disco ! (yes, disco)! think i was 14/15 yoa >oh happy days .

drjohnsonscat Tue 05-Feb-13 09:29:57

don't go breaking my heart works brilliantly for karaoke too. Just so you know grin

My phone is full of embarrassing shit grin

Shania Twain - nearly a whole album!
East 17 - Stay another day
Couple of backstreet boys, 5ive, bewitched, Daphne and Celeste blush

Probably loads more.

MolotovCocktail Tue 05-Feb-13 09:43:19

I like some Def Leppard stuff from the late 80s (Animal, I think the album is) ...
