And the middle classes are the worst

KenLeeeeeee Wed 30-Jan-13 20:19:04

biscuit to go with the chip on your shoulder.

MrsWolowitzerables Wed 30-Jan-13 20:19:05

More information? Examples?

I'd say there is so much pointless, stupid judging out there of which your OP is a classic example

Bluestocking Wed 30-Jan-13 20:19:05

Perhaps a biscuit would help?

HollyBerryBush Wed 30-Jan-13 20:19:09

Define 'class'.

RuleBritannia Wed 30-Jan-13 20:22:21

Give an example. <slurs> wine

BumpingFuglies Wed 30-Jan-13 20:23:22

Absolutely OP. Dreadful upstarts.

Irony, much?

BumpingFuglies Wed 30-Jan-13 20:25:27

Are there middle classes then? How many? How are they classified?

discotequewreck Wed 30-Jan-13 20:26:08

I live in what I would call a predominantly middle class area. Okay you get snobbery anywhere and everywhere but what irritates me, is the people who think they're superior just because they have more money.

Money which was made in the property boom, through cheap oil and exploitation.

Today I have had to endure racist comments, comments about single mothers.

Racist comments and derogatory comments about single mothers isn't snobbery y'know? It's universally shitty behaviour.

saycheeeeeese Wed 30-Jan-13 20:28:17

Don't drip feed OP it wont end well, what happened and give examples before you get thrown any more buns.

Racism is most definitely no respecter of class. Really.

Sorry that you have had some shitty people to deal with today.

MorrisZapp Wed 30-Jan-13 20:29:33

What's your point? Having a go at the middle class seems pretty snobby to me.

TotallyBS Wed 30-Jan-13 20:29:48

disco - I have an Asian friend that lives in East London. I don't think that he will agree with you about racism being a MC thing smile

discotequewreck Wed 30-Jan-13 20:29:49

It is ironic isn't it, that I am generalising about middle class people. However they are hardly a marginalised group are they hmm

nefertarii Wed 30-Jan-13 20:30:03

Its nothing to with being middle class. Its to do with being a twat. And there are loads of tests regardless of class.

But you do get the irony of your posts, don't you?

nefertarii Wed 30-Jan-13 20:31:15

shit. Well done op. I think its the first time I have seen an op get it.

This thread is just snobbery and based wholly on opinions you've got from a few people, don't tar everyone with the same brush, you're no better than those 'middle classes' who pass judgment at you.

cocoachannel Wed 30-Jan-13 20:34:19

<<Ignores thread and goes back to munching on breadstick grissini>>

Viviennemary Wed 30-Jan-13 20:35:52

I agree actually. But I'm probably a culprit these days. I never used to be.

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS Wed 30-Jan-13 20:37:23

I would swank straight past you with my designer handbag, OP.
Being MC rocks.

Not really. fFs OP, stop discriminating against us Middle classes. Once you see past our Land and Range Rovers we are really quite nice smile and not that different to you.

LittleChimneyDroppings Wed 30-Jan-13 20:39:57

Middle class doesn't always = money

Alisvolatpropiis Wed 30-Jan-13 20:50:56

Ffs OP...glad the irony hasn't totally gone over your head.

By the way...racism isn't "snobbery" it's racism.

Middle class women can be single mothers too...shock

RuleBritannia Wed 30-Jan-13 21:09:21

It's not middle class snobbery. It's just knowing how to behave in public, in private, in school, walking along the street.

When people who know how to behave - yes etiquette - they will notice those who do not conform to their standards and think they are not as good as they are.

Sallyingforth Wed 30-Jan-13 21:12:44

You are certainly BU. You should know your place and keep to it.
In fact I'm going to write to the Daily Mail about this!

FreePeaceSweet Wed 30-Jan-13 21:16:50

I have to say the only out and out racist and snobby people I know or have met are working class ones or dare I say it? Benefit claimants. But I certainly don't think that all of them are like this.

MumVsKids Wed 30-Jan-13 21:21:33

<I can never locate my bloody popcorn machine when i need it>

Pagwatch Wed 30-Jan-13 21:23:18

It is dreadful that you have had to put up with racist comments and guff about single mothers.

CloudsAndTrees Wed 30-Jan-13 21:23:40

You know reverse snobbery is no prettier than you are describing right?

And that racism is something else entirely?

discotequewreck Wed 30-Jan-13 21:42:09

I won't be crying about middle-classism anytime soon.

I do know what racism is and whilst I am fully aware such attitudes exist in all walks of life, I was making a specific point about the attitude of a certain section of middle class people.

A sense of entitlement with no appreciation of how their wealth is in part based on luck.

nefertarii Wed 30-Jan-13 21:54:28

Do you think white people cried about racism 100 years ago either?

Just because a section of society has money, surely in this day an age any discrimination should be confronted and told that's not ok.

Middle classes obviously have not put up with as much as minorities. That doesn't justify the discrimination.

I had a neighbor who hated people who worked. She used to shout abuse when people got home from work. neither her or her husband worked.

Do i think all people who don't work are nasty shits that are too concerned with what others do? no.

CaptainNancy Wed 30-Jan-13 21:56:18

I don't think you understand what class actually is- it is separate from wealth. HTH

YellowTulips Wed 30-Jan-13 22:03:52

Let me ponder that OP ...

<<slurps Sancerre, and ponders if I can really forgo the Porsche for the Merc whilst paying public school fees>>

Seriously what a silly generalisation...

LouMae Wed 30-Jan-13 22:09:19

I remember being at a friend's wedding a few yrs ago talking to a middle class couple. I had long blond and pink extensions, facial piercings and visible tattoos. They weren't surprised when I said I was a single mum, but were shocked when I worked full time and even more shocked when they found out I had quite a responsible job. They actually congratulated me, the patronising bastards!
