I don't know what I'm doing with links, but if it doesn't work, it's a photo of a bunch of men caressing their beer bellies in the way pregnant women cuddle their unborn babies, in an 'hilarious' pisstake.

Am I the only one who doesn't get why this is so amusing? I'm told I'm taking it too seriously and can't take a joke, but I don't think one section of society should have to take being a running joke tbh, especially not at their most vulnerable.

These people have no idea about the experience and physical and emotional difficulties of pregnancy, and their show of insensitivity and ignorance is irritating to me. AIBU?

MrsWolowitz Fri 25-Jan-13 09:15:24

I think its pretty funny blush

I do have a very silly sense of humour though.

I think it's quite funny. They're not really taking the piss out of pregnant people they're taking the piss out of their beer bellys. I think you're over thinkin it.

YorkshireDeb Fri 25-Jan-13 09:15:40

The link does work. I'm sorry, but I found it quite funny. Didn't see it as taking the piss out of pregnant women - more of men with beer bellies. X

threesocksmorgan Fri 25-Jan-13 09:16:06

Really, you are upset by this??
it isn't something that amuses me, (fat men) but don't see why it upsets you.
being pregnant is beautiful

landofsoapandglory Fri 25-Jan-13 09:16:09

Oh it's only taking the piss out if those ridiculous pictures that slebs have taken to put in trashy magazines!

I, also, do not think that "you are at your most vulnerable" when you are pregnant either!

Fenton Fri 25-Jan-13 09:16:32

I think you're taking it the wrong way, isn't it more a self pisstake? Or a pisstake if the ridiculously overdone celeb caressing bump photos that have been in since Demi Moore did her so very artistic nude pregnant shots?

I'm with Ninja....I didn't get the impression that they were taking the piss out of pregnant women....more the men with the bellys. I've seen the pic, it made me chuckle blush

WorraLiberty Fri 25-Jan-13 09:16:45

Well I laughed grin

Most vulnerable? How so?

Being pregnant doesn't automatically cause a sense of humour failure.

fragola Fri 25-Jan-13 09:17:38

It made me laugh. I don't think it's taking the piss out of pregnant women, it's taking the piss out of annoying celebs who do the I'm pregnant and great photos. And beer bellies. I especially liked the expectant expressions.

grovel Fri 25-Jan-13 09:17:52

I don't think it's very funny but I'm not remotely offended by it.

nefertarii Fri 25-Jan-13 09:18:03

Yabu. Pregnant women are not the ' most vulnerable'.

I thought it was quite funny. And I thought the piss take was of the trend for arty pregnancy photography rather than of pregnant women

And is it just me or did the first guy look like Charlie Brooker?

AmberLeaf Fri 25-Jan-13 09:19:27

Seriously?

MrsBucketxx Fri 25-Jan-13 09:19:33

Its pretty funny,

Take a deep breath and get over yourself.

WandaDoff Fri 25-Jan-13 09:20:31

I think its funny.

skullcandy Fri 25-Jan-13 09:21:34

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

GirlOutNumbered Fri 25-Jan-13 09:21:47

I find it more offensive that you feel I was 'vulnerable' whilst pregnant. What do you mean by that!!?
The picture is funny too, love their faces.

I think it's funny.

I didn't understand your vulnerable comment at all.

threesocksmorgan Fri 25-Jan-13 09:23:03

confused

MikeOxardInTheSnow Fri 25-Jan-13 09:23:11

Most vulnerable? How so?

In lots of ways! Emotionally, you have hormones all over the place. I know it doesn't affect everyone but I had SPD and had very limited mobility and was in a lot of pain. A trip or fall could be very serious when pregnant, when the same tumble would be nothing to a non-pg person...

ShotgunNotDoingThePans Fri 25-Jan-13 09:23:12

I think you're having us on, op grin.
Cake thread?

MikeOxardInTheSnow Fri 25-Jan-13 09:23:34

Eh? Cake thread?

TWinklyLittleStar Fri 25-Jan-13 09:23:54

When I get stressed my belly swells up so I literally look 6 months pregnant, sometimes I caress the 'bump' - is that unacceptable too? The pregnant woman I work with (whose bump was smaller) didn't seem to mind, but maybe she was crying on the inside hmm

RightUpMyRue Fri 25-Jan-13 09:24:21

I think it's funny too and I'm currently in my 30th week of experiencing the physical and emotional difficulties of pregnancy grin

You need to lighten up a bit smile

merlottits Fri 25-Jan-13 09:25:40

I have read your OP 3 times and you officially sound off your rocker.

Since when does pregnancy have to be deadly serious?
When have this section of society become a running joke?

Insensitivity? Ignorance?

This has got to be most pearl-clutchy post I have ever read on MN.

Sorry, I think the men are taking the piss out of themselves not pregnant women.

Catchingmockingbirds Fri 25-Jan-13 09:25:52

I'm pregnant with a big bump, I still found it funny. Yabu sorry.

This thread is reminding me of the episode of The Young Ones where Vyvyan is pregnant grin

merlottits Fri 25-Jan-13 09:26:37

Oh God I fell for it didn't I? Whoops!

Catchingmockingbirds Fri 25-Jan-13 09:27:08

And I have SPD too, still chuckled at the pics.

PickledInAPearTree Fri 25-Jan-13 09:27:13

I'm 37 weeks now - I'm not great at being pregnant get down hormonal and all that not a bloomer.

I don't feel vulnerable but I do feel like shite.

But the pictures aren't making fun of people like me. They are big fat hairy men doing Demi moores and I fund them funny.

I don't think pregnant women are a sub species that need to be protected from light hearted stuff like this.

squeakytoy Fri 25-Jan-13 09:27:15

A trip or fall can be serious to anyone! pregnant or not.

WorraLiberty Fri 25-Jan-13 09:29:06

In lots of ways! Emotionally, you have hormones all over the place. I know it doesn't affect everyone but I had SPD and had very limited mobility and was in a lot of pain. A trip or fall could be very serious when pregnant, when the same tumble would be nothing to a non-pg person

What does that have to with some fat guys in a photo, posing for a laugh? confused

Society has become humourless enough without searching for things to be offended by.

Catchingmockingbirds Fri 25-Jan-13 09:29:30

If you were offended by those pics then this link will send you over the edge; www.telegraph.co.uk/women/mother-tongue/9824535/Men-scream-in-agony-during-labour-simulation.html

AngelWreakinHavoc Fri 25-Jan-13 09:31:31

It made me laugh. They are not taking the piss out of pregnant Women at all, They are taking the piss out of themselves.
I think the one on the bottom left is hilarious grin

squeakytoy Fri 25-Jan-13 09:33:15

The only way it could possibly be seen as taking the piss, is due to the never ending number of heavily pregnant z list "celebs" who think the whole world is desperate to see them copying Demi Moore..

MikeOxardInTheSnow Fri 25-Jan-13 09:35:20

Hmm. Well I'm not usually a miserable bastard, or pearl-clutch, at all! But 2 pages of unanimous YABUs doesn't look good...

In my defence, I had fucking horrendous pregnancies, and have been subject to serious sexual discrimination (told I could not have a job because it was a 'man's' job, and it was given to a man with no qualifications or experience over me even though I had a few years experience of the job and a relevant degree and post-grad qualification)! So I suppose I am a bit humourless when I see anything that gives the impression of belittling women.

BatCave Fri 25-Jan-13 09:35:40

Not offended, I think you've read way too much into it.

I am slightly disturbed by men tucking willys between their legs, but I think that's just me grin

expatinscotland Fri 25-Jan-13 09:36:07

I find it funny.

Flobbadobs Fri 25-Jan-13 09:36:12

You're right OP, it's not funny. It's hilarious and you've reminded me of my DH striking the very same pose at me when I was pg!
YABU.

squeakytoy Fri 25-Jan-13 09:38:41

But it isnt "belittling" anyone!

MikeOxardInTheSnow Fri 25-Jan-13 09:39:54

Catchingmockingbirds That story I don't have a problem with! I'm glad they stopped before they had to push a golf ball out of their penises or something though!

BupcakesAndCunting Fri 25-Jan-13 09:42:16

I don't think it's very funny just because it's not my sense of humour, tbh.

What I got from it was that they were cradling their beer bellies with the same pride that a woman would cradle their pregnant stomachs i.e that the beer belly is their baby?

AngelWreakinHavoc Fri 25-Jan-13 09:42:44

Catchingmockingbirds shock grin

YorkshireDeb Fri 25-Jan-13 09:43:12

Try looking at it again op, with the things that have been said in your mind. Can you see it differently? Can you see the silly Demi mooreness of it or their pride it their well cultivated beer bellies? X

MikeOxardInTheSnow Fri 25-Jan-13 09:43:48

But it isnt "belittling" anyone! Isn't it, you sure?! It seems to me a bit 'haha, look this is like being pregnant'. And that's not what it's like at all - it's not just having a big belly and posing for pictures, that's what I find quite insulting I suppose.

YABU, I think that's rather funny personally.

squeakytoy Fri 25-Jan-13 09:44:34

I am quite sure.

YorkshireDeb Fri 25-Jan-13 09:45:52

Do you find it equally offensive seeing celebs posing like that then? X

Tabliope Fri 25-Jan-13 09:56:06

I actually laughed out loud I thought it that funny. Some of those expressions. It's not mocking pregnant women, it is mocking celebs posing like Demi Moore though - I think there were two celebs doing the precious pregnant pose in the DM yesterday plus a few others recently posting pictures on Twitter.

landofsoapandglory Fri 25-Jan-13 09:57:14

I'm in my 17th year of SPD, still need crutches, had multiple surgeries on my pelvis and I found it funny!

I have felt a lot more vulnerable since I have been pregnant tbh!

KobayashiMaru Fri 25-Jan-13 09:58:04

I think its brilliant to see quite "manly" men (iyswim) posing in a traditionally female way. Rather subversive. Certainly not offensive. I think you may be suffering from pregnancy preciousness.

MikeOxardInTheSnow Fri 25-Jan-13 10:20:08

Alright blush IABU.

GilmoursPillow Fri 25-Jan-13 10:20:08

There's no MORE beautiful time in a mans life, than when a man is carrying a beer baby.
grin

ClaraBean Fri 25-Jan-13 10:26:27

YABU.
I don't see how it belittles anyone. It is some men pissing about with their big fat bellies.
Are you equally offended when little kids shove pillows up their jumpers and pretend to be pregnant?

DublinMammy Fri 25-Jan-13 10:27:57

I have a 3 week old and could still "tenderly" cradle my excess bump and I found it funny. YABU. They are taking the piss out of fuckwitted slebs, as has been said by a few people on here.

grin that picture is hilarious. I think you are searching for things to be offended by op.

FunnysInLaJardin Fri 25-Jan-13 10:33:49

made me laugh. I will have to get DH to try it out tonight

PoppadomPreach Fri 25-Jan-13 10:34:06

YABU. Funny.

HecateWhoopass Fri 25-Jan-13 10:34:08

I don't think it's funny (as in it didn't make me laugh, not as in That's Not Funny) but I don't find it offensive.

Fakebook Fri 25-Jan-13 10:34:51

I'm not clicking the link because I don't particularly want to see fat bellies. I don't think it's funny either, but only because i find things like that disgusting. It's not making a mockery of pregnancy IMO.

SamuelWestsMistress Fri 25-Jan-13 10:35:30

Hahahahahahaha that made me do a lol!

LittleChimneyDroppings Fri 25-Jan-13 10:35:46

Its not hillarious roll on the floor laughing stuff, but it is a bit funny. The photos are quite well done!!

RandallPinkFloyd Fri 25-Jan-13 10:36:49

Poor OP, yep yabu. Bet you needed someone else to say that eh? wink

SamuelWestsMistress Fri 25-Jan-13 10:37:37

Oh and Fakebook "I'm not clicking the link because I don't particularly want to see fat bellies"

You have won quote of the month!! grin

pictish Fri 25-Jan-13 10:40:11

Those are great pics!!

Come on OP - get over yourself just a little bit. Being pregnant doesn't make you sacred or owt...it's a completely run of the mill and natural condition to be in, and certainly does not raise any of us above a bit of good natured humour.

To me, the photographs make the men in them seem relaxed and open minded, while enjoying a little fun being poked in their direction.

You are silly to be offended.

AmberLeaf Fri 25-Jan-13 10:48:26

Top right and bottom left ones are my favs.

MikeOxardInTheSnow Fri 25-Jan-13 10:54:12

Being pregnant doesn't make you sacred or owt Erm... blush so that was just me as well then? Usually I can hold my own in any situation, but I wouldn't say boo to a goose when pregnant. I used to have nightmares about people beating me on my bump. sad I did feel scared and vulnerable, but it's nice in a way to hear that isn't the case for most people. Lucky you lot eh?

And I still don't get the reference to the cake thread. Don't think I even saw a cake thread.

pictish Fri 25-Jan-13 10:55:01

I like the beardy guy best of all. I would do the nasty with him.

Cornsyilk99 Fri 25-Jan-13 10:55:25

It's quite funny.
That type of pregnancy photo needs the piss taking out of it.

valiumredhead Fri 25-Jan-13 10:55:33

Ha ha that made me snort out loud, it's hilarious, especially the soppy looks on their faces grin

valiumredhead Fri 25-Jan-13 10:56:54

It's the men taking the piss out of THEMSELVES for having beer bellies, not them taking the piss out of pregnant women.

Cornsyilk99 Fri 25-Jan-13 10:57:02

number 6 isn't really trying though

YorkshireDeb Fri 25-Jan-13 10:57:22

Ah bless her - op has already admitted she was being unreasonable. X

pictish Fri 25-Jan-13 10:58:24

Hey OP - don't be sad. We all of us have our sticking points. That's fine...but we mustn't be resentful that others don't share them too.

I'm sorry your pregnancies were so tough for you. xxx

confused

The only people it's belittling, if anyone, is paunchy men who drink too much.

10storeylovesong Fri 25-Jan-13 10:59:21

sacred not scared

I'm currently 25 weeks into a horrific pregnancy where I've been in and out of hospital with heavy bleeding and told that I'll be lucky to make it to 28 weeks and will definitely go into Prem labour.

I'm currently home alone on complete bed rest... These photos have just brightened up my morning! They're taking the piss out of themselves and slebs! I'm more offended by the recent pregnant photos of Imogen (whatshername?!)

RandallPinkFloyd Fri 25-Jan-13 11:03:38

Hey, don't worry about it OP, so you're a bit over sensitive, hardly crime of the century.

ScramblyEgg Fri 25-Jan-13 11:08:07

Hi OP, I'm going to go against the grain and sort of agree with you on this one.

I don't find the photos offensive now, and I don't think they're taking the piss out of pregnant women, but when I was pregnant & suffering from antenatal depression they might have upset me.

MikeOxardInTheSnow Fri 25-Jan-13 11:13:50

sacred not scared - oops, oh yeah!

Thanks to those to expressed understanding of my oversensitivity, even though IWBU.

Lukat Fri 25-Jan-13 11:19:34

Get a grip!!! More very important things to worry about!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans Fri 25-Jan-13 12:35:30

Sorry about the cake thread ref - was a jokey nc one which was deleted.

I thought yours might be of the same ilk but now I feel bad blush.

PickledInAPearTree Fri 25-Jan-13 13:16:34

I cried for an hour yesterday mike because I dropped a bottle. I can imagine a day when 12 hairy fat naked men might provoke a similar reaction! I'm nearly 38 wks and can't wait for it to be over!!

Those photo's have just made me laugh! grin

I've had 4 difficult pregnancies and births, but you can't let it make you miserable!

YABU, it's funny and taking the piss out of beer bellies, not pregnancy.

Yfronts Fri 25-Jan-13 13:56:25

I love the photos - v funny

Emilythornesbff Fri 25-Jan-13 14:12:26

I can see what u mean. It's not actually funny IMO, and there's is something about men hijacking that "pregnant female" imagery that if you want it to could be annoying (the facial expressions indicate that they're taking the piss IMO). But I don't find it offensive (and I'm about two hundred weeks pregnant). I think in some ways we are potentially vulnerable during pregnancy, feeling protective of fetus, being fucking enormous having a new shape, slwoing down and being and out of step with our usual selves.

But I guess lots of women don't feel that way and might even feel stringers during pregnancy. (these could be all the women my DH refers to when he states that most women love being pregnant)
Hormonal much, moi???

Emilythornesbff Fri 25-Jan-13 14:13:09

Stringers??? I meant stronger of course.

nefertarii Fri 25-Jan-13 15:30:51

op just because you felt vulnerable when pg, its doesn't make pregnant women vulnerable. And suggesting theyvamongstcthr most vulnerable could be taken as insulting.

Especially when there kids in this country who are abused or their parents don't know where to get their next meal from, or don't have anywhere warm to sleep. There are many groups of people who are more vulnerable than a pg woman who feels she is vulnerable.

Booboostoo Fri 25-Jan-13 16:19:16

Pregnancy hormones can really screw with you, I sympathise...(it's funny though, sorry!).
