I filled out a CRB form last week and it took about 10 minutes , and that included finding my passport . YABU

You should write down those many addresses on a piece of paper and keep it safe for instances such as this.

If the job is dependant on your passing a CRB then YABU & clearly don't want the job very much.

I thought CRBs didn't exist now, and there was something transportable instead , called something ever so slightly different?

Seems like a waste of money tbh, is it this new system? Maybe they require you to be registered with it and it'll be a one off - don't know much about it confused

But for an ordinary CRB? YaredefinatelyNBU, I wouldn't.

There was a lot of talk about changing to a system where you would only need to apply once, and it would be stored in a data base for interested parties to access, I think it was put on hold though, Ive got 4. grin

I agree, they're a pita to fill out when you move a lot. I'm supposed to do one to join an agency - and pay for it myself! Doing it online sounds a bit easier though.

Will they not accept your valid ones? Usually do if less than six months old ime.

I'd fill it in and take it to the interview, but I certainly wouldn't let them have all my details unless I had a job offer. Sorry if that's precious, but I've seen enough of these offices with stuff lying around for ages with random temps in and out all the time.

It might be one in a million chance, but bugger that! I wouldn't give them my bank details on the off chance either!

CRBs are a complete nightmare, so you have my sympathy! I took 3 years out of teaching to be a SAHM and therefore had to re-apply.

Get this - it took 8 MONTHS to come through. During which time they dithered about, told me there was someone with similar details to mine (when, because I was born on a tiny, tiny island I am the only person in the world born there on that date!), I had to get fingerprinted by my local police station. Then they sent my CRB off to 5 separate police counties (none of which I'd ever lived or worked in), but couldn't tell me which as they had no idea where it had gone. This was despite the police check of my fingerprints on the police National database coming back clear......I could go on and on, but they are soooo shit, it's unbelievable.

misty9 no one I've worked for apart from agencies will accept a CRB in another organisations name - they trot out the 'it's only really valid on the date it's issued you could have done anything in the mean time' hmm must look dodgy.

PVG in Scotland. You don't need to do a different form for each job now, thankfully.

In Scotland you now register and it's supposed to avoid this.

Previously when we interviewed, we would get everyone to complete the form and bring the ID to the interview, then we could send off the successful candidates immediately and shred the rest.

One of my DDs has a larger current amount than any number posted on here so far.
Very silly, and time consuming.
She photocopied the last one so she has all numbers and dates of documents to hand for the next jolly time

Well if it came back with a problem, the employer doesn't have to go through with the interview.

They have the upper hand here, as in they're the ones who have the job on offer. If they interview, then ask for a CRB and it comes back with a problem they've wasted their time, which to them is much more important than yours.

As the documentation has to be checked in person filling out the firm in advance & taking I'd with you saves another appointment having to be made or you having to send original docs through the post.

The organisation I work with asks for some stuff at interview to deter candidates who may be unsuitable to work with children. It shows we are serious about doing the checks.
