to think Thorin Oakenshield is WAY WAY hotter than Aragorn?

IwantaPetFox Tue 08-Jan-13 16:47:26

As played by Richard Armitage and Viggo Mortensen respectively.

I don't think Thorin would even be that much shorter than me grin

AlistairSim Tue 08-Jan-13 16:57:32

I need naked pictures before I can pass my judgement, OP.

Fecklessdizzy Tue 08-Jan-13 16:58:33

So glad it's not just me ... I wouldn't kick Filli ( or possibly Killi - which ever is thingy out of Desperate Romantics and Being Human ) out of me blankets either!

pictish Tue 08-Jan-13 16:59:40

Nah - Aragorn is much hotter than Thorin.

Tbf I'm really not fussy, I'd have either of them grin

Thorin Oakenshield sounds like the name of some wizened old Yorkshire farmer. I'm assuming he's not?

I wouldn't turn either away if they came knocking on my door.

IwantaPetFox Tue 08-Jan-13 17:02:56

Agreed Feckless, they are both incredibly hot mythical creatures. Dwarves don't seem to age well though do they? I wouldn't look forward to whenever it is that their noses and beards get huge!

Glad it's not just me grin

Zalen Tue 08-Jan-13 17:03:00

I already knew I needed to see this movie, now I REALLY need to see this movie. Unfortunately my husband also wants to see it which means waiting to see if he can get his act together and actually arrange a babysitter etc or sneaking out to see it by myself when I can find a good enough lie for where I'm going (Christmas shopping worked well to get me out to see Skyfall but it's a little early for that one this year!"

IwantaPetFox Tue 08-Jan-13 17:04:51

Yup Gawain is rather lovely too zukie.

Thorin for the uninitiated.

Aragorn has unattractively small teeth IMO!

KenLeeeeeee Tue 08-Jan-13 17:05:28

Thank heavens it's not just me!

IwantaPetFox Tue 08-Jan-13 17:06:21

Oh and when he SINGS in that deep voice by the fire! <wibble>

MrsRajeshKoothrappali Tue 08-Jan-13 17:07:19

I like Kili.

I'd happily lick him all over.

Fili isn't bad either.

IwantaPetFox Tue 08-Jan-13 17:07:36

I mean, Richard Armitage is clearly hot, and has the benefit of being 6'2", but somehow he is sexier as Thorin.

January sales Zalen It needs to be seen! It's choc full of epiccy goodness and hot dwarfs ( which is not something I ever thought I'd type - bloody Tyrion has a lot to answer for! )

Lollydaydream Tue 08-Jan-13 17:09:51

IwantaPetFox Tue 08-Jan-13 17:10:00

Glad to be of service zukie.

ThalianotFailure Tue 08-Jan-13 17:10:52

he is way hotter than Aragorn, and I say this as someone who luuuurves Aragorn.

Have you seen Richard Armitage in North & South? Repressed Victorian smoulderingness yum yum yum.

Kili is hot too, but Aidan Turner is hotter in Being Human (esp season 1) and Desperate Romantics, which after visiting the Pre Raphaelite exhibition today I really want to watch again!

IwantaPetFox Tue 08-Jan-13 17:10:56

I'm so not Lolly.

KatyPeril Tue 08-Jan-13 17:12:22

YANBU! YANBU! YANBU! What with Thorin and Tyrion I'm all about dwarf passion just recently.

IwantaPetFox Tue 08-Jan-13 17:12:27

No I haven't seen North and South yet Thalia because I'm an idiot and I thought I wanted to read the book first. Like that's going to happen.

IwantaPetFox Tue 08-Jan-13 17:19:05

Why oh why did I buy an ANIMAL calendar instead of a dwarf one?

KatyPeril Tue 08-Jan-13 17:19:36

Agree Tyrion isn't hot but I can't help but have stirrings grin

IwantaPetFox Tue 08-Jan-13 17:19:48

ME TOO zukie. Are you me? Am I sockpuppeting without knowing it?

IwantaPetFox Tue 08-Jan-13 17:22:09

I think it's unfortunate that Rufus Sewell doesn't spend more time with long hair and a beard.

Strangely, I don't find Johnny Depp remotely attractive. He's beautiful of course, but not sexy (to me).

IwantaPetFox Tue 08-Jan-13 17:26:38

I've just realised I have a short, black-haired, beardy husband.

<Hatches plan involving costumes>

PessaryPam Tue 08-Jan-13 17:56:27

YABVU, Viggo is georgeous. Sex on legs in fact.

PessaryPam Tue 08-Jan-13 18:02:24

Although if we are talking fantasy here give me Khal Drogo every time, aka Jason Momoa. Truly lovely.

SuperfestiveLBD Tue 08-Jan-13 18:04:10

Yes, he is, PP, and he has a nice swishy leather coat, but he has a very light brown voice. Whereas this coat is even nicer, and Thorin's voice is dark treacle with with brandy and melted chocolate

Khal Drogo is indeed sexy, but also a tad rapey.

Thorin/Thornton/JP/Lucas/Harry/Gizzy is delish full stop.

See you on the other side...

Fecklessdizzy Tue 08-Jan-13 18:07:34

I love Game Of Thrones with a deep and worrying passion but The Hobbit wins hands down in the Fantasy Shag stakes grin

AutumnMadness Tue 08-Jan-13 18:07:39

Oh. My. God. I can't believe somebody mentioned Michael Praed.

But seriously, I am totally torn between Viggo as Aragorn and Richard Armitage as Thorin. But I have to say that I'd take non-screen Viggo over non-screen Richard any time.

PessaryPam Tue 08-Jan-13 18:07:44

Only if he could speak Russian to me like in a fish called Wanda.

ebersneezer Tue 08-Jan-13 18:25:56

Killi is all mine but I'll share Thorin.

EllaEllaElla Tue 08-Jan-13 18:34:34

YABU - Aragorn everytime.

Although.....Armitage as Lucas North in Spooks...yum yum.

pointedlynoresolutions Tue 08-Jan-13 18:35:22

Aragorn and Thorin.

grin at dwarf passion. I'm an elf girl myself.
Had an embarrassing full on Legolas crush when LOTR first came out.

SupermassiveLBD Tue 08-Jan-13 18:50:58

<< grin @ sudden mass invasion of AIBU>>

tangofan Tue 08-Jan-13 18:57:43

Ahh, Lucas in Spooks <looks dreamily into the distance> - happy days, why did they cancel the hottie fest superb drama that was Spooks?..
I haven't seen RI in North and South but have been meaning to get a copy since I saw the Hobbit and saw those eyes again - is there anything else he's been in??
VM is nice and rugged in LOTR but does nothing for me normally. Defo RI as Thorin or not, frankly I'm not fussed.
<reminds self that posting about a celeb one fancies is hardly 40 year old behaviourblush>

ikltownofboothlehem Tue 08-Jan-13 18:58:22

The one who isn't Aidan Turner is called Dean O'Gorman. He plays Anders / Bragi in The Almighty Johnsons. Hot. If a little pocket sized.

gimmecakeandcandy Tue 08-Jan-13 19:04:02

thalianotfailure is that your name?! I know a Thalia and am wondering if you are her?! Lol

Aragon - everytime

And Legolas!

tangofan Tue 08-Jan-13 19:04:12

^^ why the fuck have I put RI instead of RA?! Twice. blush

JamieandtheMagiTorch Tue 08-Jan-13 19:04:34

Aragorn. Oh yes.

Ephiny Tue 08-Jan-13 19:13:38

Thorin or, both? I wouldn't say no to Fili and Kili if they turned up at my door either smile

If we're talking Game of Thrones, tbh Khal Drogo didn't do much for me. But I had an unexpected appreciation for Jorah Mormont. That might be just me though...

Thorin is certainly hotter than Aragorn.

Personally I go weak for men with long dar hair, and dark eyes so Neil Oliver is mine

Hobbitation Tue 08-Jan-13 19:16:25

But then Richard Armitage is hotter than ANYONE, to be fair to VM.

dark, nor dar. Obviously...

pointedlynoresolutions Tue 08-Jan-13 19:16:59

HeadfirstForAMistletoeKiss Tue 08-Jan-13 19:19:01

He is gorgeous. I love that dawn French got to snog his face off (and marry him!) in the Vicar of Dibley grin

Have to say, RA doesn't actually do anything for me when not in Thorin costume.

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord Tue 08-Jan-13 19:21:48

vigo isn't fit unless he's aragorn.

Richard armitage is better but not my type but I weighed this one up while watching the hobbit on Christmas eve.

so aragorn is fitter than thorin but Richard is fitter than vigo grin

MrsGeologist Tue 08-Jan-13 19:22:56

My friend was complaining that Thorin was too attractive. He's certainly not rugged and handsome in the book.

I think Kili is better.

ThalianotFailure Tue 08-Jan-13 19:25:28

no, not a Thalia - it's from the Antonia Forest school stories, Autumn Term etc.

I missed RA in Spooks, I ditched it after Matthew McFadyen left <shallow, didn't like Rupert Penry-Whatsit>. I remember being very excited when he popped up the The Vicar of Dibley.

ThalianotFailure Tue 08-Jan-13 19:27:09

Hobbitation - are all those half-nekkid pics from Spooks? I shall have to watch it, though annoyingly I do kind of know the plot.

Hobbitation Tue 08-Jan-13 19:33:49

Yes, some from Spooks. The sex scenes are from Between The Sheets. It's not my tumblr I should add, I'm not that clever!

PretzelTime Tue 08-Jan-13 19:35:04

I admit to being a little disappointed that Thorin and the others don't look like grey-bearded Gimlis like in the book.
But I guess the more handsome versions makes for a better viewing experience and more cash for the movie.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid Tue 08-Jan-13 19:36:05

Don't so bloody ridiculous shock! How very dare you.

He's a dwarf whereas Aragorn is all man

ArielThePiraticalMermaid Tue 08-Jan-13 19:37:18

And as for Boromir..... <shivers with lust>

Mayisout Tue 08-Jan-13 19:38:55

Aragorn was fab in the first movie but sadly a bit less rugged looking by the last film.

PretzelTime Tue 08-Jan-13 19:43:31

Thorin vs Aragorn - who do you think has the best singing voice?

Mayisout Tue 08-Jan-13 19:45:08

Thorin is unusually good-looking for a dwarf omg am I leaving myself open to dwarfist accusations but he is def not the sharpest crayon in the box.

I'm having Kili AND Aragorn by the way - you can keep Thorin. I'll have Aragorn for the brains and kili for being generally v v cute (and far too young).

AutumnMadness Tue 08-Jan-13 19:51:48

Mayisout, hmmm, good point. This swung it for me towards Aragorn. Although Thorin is really very very very hot.

AutumnMadness Tue 08-Jan-13 19:53:20

btw, wtf with body hair in Peter Jackson's films? The hobbit feet should be covered with curly fur (would look bloody better this way too!) and many dwarf beards are waaaaay too short.

IwantaPetFox Tue 08-Jan-13 19:55:42

Well this thread grew in my absence! Looking forward to checking out that tumblr link when I get home (am on phone).

Then deleting my browser history like a dude.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid Tue 08-Jan-13 19:56:25

Incidentally, did anyone else notice the hobbits' feet in The Hobbit compared to LOTR? Much bigger and hairier and generally weirder.

AutumnMadness Tue 08-Jan-13 19:58:48

Were they? Oh god. They just all look horrid to me. Cover them with fur like they should be!

Martin whojamaflip's feet were hideous.

And so was his acting, to be frank.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid Tue 08-Jan-13 20:02:59

NO! I thought he was pretty good! Certainly better than Wet Pants Elijah Wood.

twinklesparkles Tue 08-Jan-13 20:31:31

Viggo mortensen = yummy yummy yum yum

Oh Elijah Wood is bloomin' awful. All he does is roll his eyes and look dim. But Martin thingie was all puff chested and worthy and pompous - I hated him.

Thorin deffo sings better. Possibly better produced. Aragorn sounded embarrassed and didn't have dwarfish humming in background <<atmospheric>>

ArielThePiraticalMermaid Tue 08-Jan-13 20:43:23

Elijah said "Oh Sam," and looked like he wanted to shag him lot.

Yes! smile

Talking of which, I'm pretty sure Remus Lupin fancied Sirius Black. He only married Tonks because Sirius was dead and therefore entirely unattainable.

PretzelTime Tue 08-Jan-13 20:47:33

It's understandable, Sam is the number one most amazing friend you could have. (Or gardener)
Quite handsome too.

TeamSledward Tue 08-Jan-13 20:52:21

Oh gawd! Yes to Michael Praed as Robin. UNNNNF!
He was my first crush.

Fecklessdizzy Tue 08-Jan-13 20:55:36

Aragorn was pretty fab when he was all scruffy and covered in mud but when they scrubbed him up at the end I went right off him. Legolas looks like a big girl's blouse ( elves - pah! All eyeliner and timoteh hair ... )

The female contingent of the Feckless Geek-Fest are united in Thorin/Killi lustfull imaginings ...

... And Martin Whotsit is loads better than old Goggle-eyed Frodo bloke ... There's only so much mood-lit homoerotic hobbit mopery one can stand, you know ... grin

Viggo Mortensen's eyes are too pale for my liking.

AutumnMadness Tue 08-Jan-13 21:00:29

TeamSledward, I am going all misty-eyed. Michael Praed is the best Robin of all times, despite being an absolutely awful awful actor.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid Tue 08-Jan-13 21:19:31

Yes, by the end of The Return of the King Aragorn was rather too tidily bearded instead of gorgeously grubby and unkempt.

Still wouldn't have said no of course.

That is all.

Unkempt Rider > King Aragorn

SupermassiveLBD Tue 08-Jan-13 21:25:33

If you like grubby and unkempt, why not try some of this on for size.

Fecklessdizzy Tue 08-Jan-13 21:26:01

But Autumn, he was way too pretty to be really hot! ( That said, he was loads better than Stupid Blond Fringe Guy who took over after he snuffed it ... )

Trills Tue 08-Jan-13 21:28:17

I have just realised that I don't fancy anyone in Game of Thrones.

Can that be right?

Fecklessdizzy Tue 08-Jan-13 21:29:53

Yay! Supermassive Gizburn rules!

EmpressMaud Tue 08-Jan-13 21:31:49

elves - pah! All eyeliner and timoteh hair ...

I was expecting to dislike Martin Freeman, but he wasn't too bad in the role.

And getting back to the OP, I didn't think Thorin Oakenshield out of the ordinary, so would plump for Aragorn. Though, Boromir more so (I may regret confessing that).

Fecklessdizzy Tue 08-Jan-13 21:33:04

It's probably very sensible given the rate at which they die off, Trills saves heartache ... You chaps know what happens to Thorin and Filli and Killi at the end of the book, right? sad

EmpressMaud Tue 08-Jan-13 21:34:30

Looking at the photo I've just realised who Richard Armitage is! I didn't recognise him in The Hobbit.

I take it all back <u-turns>, but I liked him best of all as Mr Thornton.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud Tue 08-Jan-13 21:36:49

Maud! A kindred spirit! He is at his bestest as Mr Thornton.

SupermassiveLBD Tue 08-Jan-13 21:37:07

You chaps know what happens to Thorin and Filli and Killi at the end of the book, right?

Don't worry, Feckless, we've grown used to that sort of thing.

Masai Tue 08-Jan-13 21:37:29

God that link....DH is a cross between Thorin and Big from SATC.

Is it wrong to fancy the arse off your hubby so much that he leaves you feeling like a female dog on heat every time you look at him?

Coldshower time methinks as hes watching telly and won't be dragged upstairs for "cuddles"

SupermassiveLBD Tue 08-Jan-13 21:38:03

AutumnMadness Tue 08-Jan-13 21:52:43

Feckless, Michael Praed is absolutely to pretty for me to fancy now. But to my pre-pubescent self he was sooooo dark and romantic. And don't start me on Jason bloody Connery. I am still traumatised.

Trills, I don't remotely fancy anyone in the Game of Thrones either.

Fecklessdizzy Tue 08-Jan-13 22:32:15

Autumn My pre-teen self was that way inclined too! Whoever thought that blond twit-bot was a worthy replacement needed a slap ...

WeeSooty Tue 08-Jan-13 22:42:13

I'm all upset now cause I had completely forgotten the end of the hobbit! sad

Thorin all the way for me blush

I watched Jason Connery play rugby in an Old Boys vs 1st XV at school in the late 80s - everyone piled onto him at every available opportunity as he was "off the telly" and he endred up very bruised and battered. I felt it served him right for taking over from the fabulous MP (my second ever crush after Face from the A team)

AutumnMadness Tue 08-Jan-13 22:56:38

Totally serves him right!

forgetmenots Tue 08-Jan-13 23:38:08

Late to this but YABVU. Aragorn will never be replaced in my heart, and I'm not even a big fan of the films...

Ephiny Wed 09-Jan-13 10:05:31

I haven't forgotten the ending. I cried my eyes out when I read the book as a child. Tbh I think Thorin in the movie is being set up as a tragic hero right from the start (and the ending of the first installment strongly foreshadows the actual ending) so it won't be a huge shock to anyone. Fili and Kili though sad

I am dreading a certain event in the next Game of Thrones season too.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid Wed 09-Jan-13 10:10:03

Talk about spoilers!

Zalen Wed 09-Jan-13 12:43:02

Richard Armitage, Viggo Mortenson, Jason Momoa, Michael Praed, love them all and can I throw into the pot for your delight and delectation, Mark Dacascos from The Crow - Stairway to Heaven.

IwantaPetFox Wed 09-Jan-13 12:53:22

NO to Michael Praed, just googled him and he is far too girly. But Mark Dacasos is rather lovely and he's reminded me that I fancy pretty much all the Native American men in the world in Last of the Mohicans, plus Daniel Day Lewis as an honorary native american with that long black hair.

EldritchCleavage Wed 09-Jan-13 13:05:46

another thing I love is Ivanhoe with Ciaran Hinds as du Bois-Guilbert

Definitely. And Sean Bean as Boromir or Eddard Stark. Or anything, actually.

AutumnMadness Wed 09-Jan-13 13:41:20

Daniel Day Lewis . . . as a Native American [swoons]

Can I through in Antonio Banderas? . . . And pretty much everyone besides the crone in the 13th Warrior is pretty hot, irrespective of the actual film.

LadyEnglefield Wed 09-Jan-13 13:53:27

Has to be Viggo... followed by Sean Bean.

My love of scruffy, dirty, long-haired men started years ago with Oliver Tobias as Arthur of the Britons (showing my age now!)

EldritchCleavage Wed 09-Jan-13 13:55:47

And pretty much everyone besides the crone in the 13th Warrior is pretty hot, irrespective of the actual film

That's very funny!

PrincessRagnhild Thu 10-Jan-13 14:52:25

That's brilliant IShall!

THORIN DREAMBOATSHIELD: I would have arrived earlier but frankly you were juggling plates and singing about the washing up and I’m not in for that. So I stood around outside letting the rain wash down my chiseled profile, staring out into the night and thinking about my dark past, as is my way.

Want need the calendar though grin.

AutumnMadness Thu 10-Jan-13 15:13:54

IShallWear, I also really-really want a calendar. DH would object though. sad

PrincessRagnhild Thu 10-Jan-13 15:32:13

GANDALF: May I introduce Thorin Dreamboatshield, the rightful king of the dwarves? Also Mr December in the Dreamy Dwarves of Middle Earth calendar, because you want to end the year right. And November, because that’s a month when people really need cheering up. Also October, September, August, July, June, May, April, March, January…
BILBO: But not February?
GANDALF: We figured Fili and Kili together would be hot enough so that people could do without Thorin for one month.
GANDALF: We picked the shortest month.

PretzelTime Thu 10-Jan-13 16:25:02

I have to say Fili and Kili are better looking than Thorin and should have more calender images. Thorin MCSerioushunk is just not jolly enough for me.

tempted to make my own calendar

hattymattie Thu 10-Jan-13 18:04:55

Boromir - everytime. Would go for Legolas as well. Also love Richard Armitage although sexy dwarves is just not right! Aragorn - Viggo was good but just doesn't work for me.

I think the pattern of my loves lusts was set by way back when I used to watch Oliver Tobias as Arthur of the Britons when I was about 11 years old. After of course, Michael Praed and assorted Lord of the Rings men. Faramir was my crush in the book - I was sorely disappointed by his casting in the film. hmm

ArielThePiraticalMermaid Thu 10-Jan-13 18:12:01

Yes Faramir in the film was all layered mullet and big nose sad

TheSmallPrint Thu 10-Jan-13 18:19:55

grin grin grin grin grin @ the parody. Sniggering away here.

AutumnMadness Thu 10-Jan-13 18:49:56

The only thing that worries me, ladies, is that the dwarves might be rather sexist. The annals of the dwarves mention only one woman - Dis - and only because she was Fili and Kili's mum. Hot but sexist . . .

PretzelTime Thu 10-Jan-13 19:03:48

That's Tolkien's fault I think, not the dwarves...

SupermassiveLBD Thu 10-Jan-13 19:21:20

The parody seriously rocks. Did anyone else hear Sir ian's voice in their head as they read it?

Talking of female dwarves, what are these Betty Butterbuttocks rumours, Mr A?

AutumnMadness Thu 10-Jan-13 19:22:20

Yeah, but in my twisted mind, Tolkien did not make the dwarves and the rest of the Middle Earth + Valinor up. He just writes about them like a historian or an ethnographer. Sick, I know.

AutumnMadness Thu 10-Jan-13 19:23:32

Super, it's true! I read it on Wikipedia! (and in the massive appendices to the LofR, which I all read, but a long time ago).

Nobody has mentioned Raven yet, if we're talking of hairy and slightly dirty looking men. And of course, Jack Sparrow. Russell Brand anyone? smile

AutumnMadness Thu 10-Jan-13 19:25:05

Good lord, Remus, what have you been smoking tonight?

SupermassiveLBD Thu 10-Jan-13 19:30:00

Ew, Cap'n Sparrow has a weird appeal but Russell Brand is taking the dirty hairy meme a touch too far.

PretzelTime Thu 10-Jan-13 19:38:40

I prefer captain Barbossa over Jack Sparrow...IDK why

DoodlesNoodles Thu 10-Jan-13 19:39:08

Do I have to choose? sad

I suppose Aragorn wins but only just. hmm

hattymattie Thu 10-Jan-13 19:57:54

ooh lady englefield I just read the thread properly and saw you were a kindred spirit in the Arthur of the Britons department. Can't believe we both wrote the same thing; grin

IwantaPetFox Thu 10-Jan-13 21:31:29

Remus I am with you on Jack Sparrow and Russell Brand! Beautiful men smile

IwantaPetFox Thu 10-Jan-13 21:34:06

And Autumn I'm pretty sure female dwarves have beards. I think you're the sexist one for assuming they were men. Maybe they were all females? Except Thorin, OBVIOUSLY.

PretzelTime Thu 10-Jan-13 21:52:54

Check this out! Official dwarf women concepts! Unimpressive beards, but I like the fab one with blue lipstick.

PretzelTime Thu 10-Jan-13 22:34:50

No comments on the ladee dwarves?

AutumnMadness Thu 10-Jan-13 22:34:53

Iwanta, goodness me, I am thinking unholy thoughts about poor Fili and Kili now.

Pretzel, I rather like the dwarf ladies! Am pleasantly surprised. I wonder how much time they spend doing their hair. But this applies equally to the men. Except Thorin, of course, whose raven locks just fall about him so artfully in a fully natural way.

IwantaPetFox Thu 10-Jan-13 22:44:02

Sorry Pretzel, once I realised Thorin was on Facebook I had to read his entire page grin

PretzelTime Thu 10-Jan-13 22:47:13

Haha yes. He is so modern!

I luff the lady dwarves. They make me feel good about myself, their worthy queen.

hattymattie Fri 11-Jan-13 09:44:30

OK ladies on Thorin Oakenshield's FB page - (which I have liked by the way). There is a photo of Thorin next to Boromir. I have to say Sean is just gorgeous yum yum - I want to blow that photo up poster size grin.

CastingNasturtiums Fri 11-Jan-13 11:12:19

I know hattie, I was all shock <drool> at those pictures side by side!

Blablablacksheep Fri 11-Jan-13 11:31:00

Hi ladies, i've just come back to ms after a long break.
Richard Armitage is HOT!
How could I've not noticed him earlier?

SupermassiveLBD Fri 11-Jan-13 13:48:03

Richard Armitage is HOT!

Welcome to our world, BBBS! grin

PretzelTime Sat 12-Jan-13 11:32:43

I've found the original designs for Thorin and company:
More true to the book, but it's understandable why they change it
