To be so annoyed at pizza express.

I just rang to order the folks a takeaway for their friends (to pick up later) They want 4 Calzone.
Pizza express will not do calzone to take away.
Why? They haven't the right boxes.
They are cross, that's almost 45 pounds of food!!

Just order pizzas and gold them in half your self?

Sorry I only use local greasy take away so don't have this problem

Pickles77 Wed 02-Jan-13 15:30:32

Well that's what I said but they laughed at me confused

But it makes sense. How do they not have the right boxes? A calzone would fit in a normal pizza box

Why can't it rattle around in a normal box for the duration of the journey? Seems a bit mad to me.

Pickles77 Wed 02-Jan-13 15:50:02

Apparently the box will 'make it go saggy' and they wouldn't accept my 25% off voucher as it was a take away.

<gets huffy>

ResolutelyCheeky Wed 02-Jan-13 16:07:01

I have to agree with them. A perfect Calzone rises when cooked and has a lovely burnt top, filled with hot steamy filling that shouldn't be flat enough to fit in a pizza box <drool........>

maddening Wed 02-Jan-13 16:15:10

Could they have taken thr lid off the pizza box and covered in foil?

LadyMaryChristmas Wed 02-Jan-13 16:17:10

Go and collect them yourself, take some plastic tubs with you (and ask them for a further discount for this trouble). Or try Zizzi.

Tee2072 Wed 02-Jan-13 16:19:15

I don't see why they can't just wrap the calzone in foil. That's what they do in the US.

I'd eat a saggy calzone if someone brought me one. I'm not fussy

Mmmm I want a saggy calzone.

Pickles77 Wed 02-Jan-13 16:39:18

We all want saggy calzone

grin

HecatePropolos Wed 02-Jan-13 17:13:24

I had to google calzone. Never heard of it. It looks like a pasty with a pizza filling.

It's a pizza folded in half then? Can you not do that yourself when it arrives? grin

Pickles77 Wed 02-Jan-13 17:14:54

It is a pizza folded in half, I don't get it really I was only the pick up driver. Seems they are allowed it now, and I've been armed with tinfoil and Tupperware wink

CajaDeLaMemoria Wed 02-Jan-13 17:16:29

They used to deliver them, but they'd always be unedible. They'd explode all over the box, and you'd be left with scraps.

They stopped a while ago, and told us when we ordered that they wouldn't be delivering them anymore as they can't offer the same quality from the take-away side. The calzone is cooked on hotter for less time for take-away orders, and the quality is rubbish. They found they were offering too many refunds and getting too many complaints.

They might allow you to go and pick them up, if you want, but they won't offer a refund if they explode while you are transporting them.

JustAHolyFool Wed 02-Jan-13 17:16:57

Saggy Calzone sounds like a shit mafia boss.

PickledInAPearTree Wed 02-Jan-13 17:27:00

Fuck good luck pickles. This sounds dangerous saggy calezone could explode on you at any moment! grin

ResolutelyCheeky Wed 02-Jan-13 17:32:03

Love it holyfool grin
"Saggy Calzone, you come to me on the day of my daughter's wedding?"

Has she been 'Calzoned' by the Saggy Mafia? She has a certain amount of time to get it from Pizza Express to home before it explodes

Tee2072 Wed 02-Jan-13 17:38:58

Imagine finding a calzone head in your bed...

YABU-pizza express is just awful awful awful, order from somewhere else, anywhere!

I've not had a good experience in any of the pizza expresses ive been to, and now i just refuse to give them my money.

Tee or worse. An exploding calzone. That would put the fear of god into many grin

'Saggy take this calzone to Pickles. I trust you yo do a good job, if not you will be garlic bread'

PickledInAPearTree Wed 02-Jan-13 17:42:11

I put calzone heeeads
In people's beeeds

SirSugar Wed 02-Jan-13 17:43:53

I never accept Pizza prices from any of the delivery ones and always ask for further discount and always get at least another £5 off

JustAHolyFool Wed 02-Jan-13 17:47:04

"It's Little Pepperoni. He's been exploded by Saggy Calzone's gang."
"Sheeeit."

Pickles77 Wed 02-Jan-13 17:47:50

I am alive.... I've got no saggy calzone on my heed, nor my beeed and none in my car.
Now I have to listen to the ummming and arrrrhing of them over their calzone whilst I chill upstairs.

I've never been to Pizza Express and i refuse to pay £15+ for a pizza from Dominoes.

My local take away does pizza, chips, can of Pepsi and a dip for £5. Best thing ever

Pickles77 Wed 02-Jan-13 17:48:47

Lock stock and two smoking calzone's

Pickles77 Wed 02-Jan-13 17:50:18

See I agree SP what's wrong with a nice donner?

crazycanuck Wed 02-Jan-13 17:51:54

Our Pizza Express let their liquor license expire and forgot to renew it. They can't serve alcohol till after January. Guess where I won't be going for lunch. grin

PickledInAPearTree Wed 02-Jan-13 18:12:49

I like the restartente ones from dr oetker. They are two pound!

Grips my shit paying all that money for bread tomatoes cheese and a few bits on top grin

Pickles77 Wed 02-Jan-13 18:21:30

And calling it a fancy name wink

I prefer pizza hut tbh. Love it!

complexnumber Wed 02-Jan-13 19:46:09

What's the matter with you?
It's not really that bad!

Oh for crying out load:

Shuddup you face.

(It was only a matta of time)

lurkerspeaks Wed 02-Jan-13 23:19:16

The 25% off voucher (Jan 1st - 3rd offer) applied to takeaway but not set meals to take away.

I used it tonight. Not on Calzone though ;-)

PickledInAPearTree Wed 02-Jan-13 23:20:55

You disrespected saggy? Look out.

AngryFeet Wed 02-Jan-13 23:26:25

I used to get a calzone takeaway from zizzi and they put it in a normal box with no exploding issues. Good thing i am going there tomrrow as i really want one now!

I'm still pissed off that pizza express got rid of the tortellini from their menu.

The only thing I liked there, and delicious it was too.
