I so am getting old...

notnowbernard Thu 27-Dec-12 22:51:29

why, which bit?

Is it on? I didn't get the memo???

CatPussRoastingOnAnOpenFire Thu 27-Dec-12 22:52:03

He's got totally the wrong end of the stick and is being totally prejudiced.

jessjessjess Thu 27-Dec-12 22:52:53

YABU. He jumps to conclusions without checking his facts.

Verycold Thu 27-Dec-12 22:53:17

Channel 5.

I just think with the information he had no wonder he was furious, and even if he had listened and found out sooner that Johnnycake isn't the baby's father, would you want your young daughter to hook up with a guy like Johnny?

Verycold Thu 27-Dec-12 22:54:01

Johnnycake?? iPad autocorrect never seizes to surprise me...

CrazyChristmasLady Thu 27-Dec-12 22:54:13

He asked Jonny who was responsible for Penny and he said "me" therefore making it sound like he was the one who knocked her up. Why didn't they bloody say it was Robbie the creep sooner!

No you wouldn't. It's all very seedy IMO.

notnowbernard Thu 27-Dec-12 22:55:14

He has got a rather marvellous chest though

DrRanj Thu 27-Dec-12 22:55:17

I got a johnnycake autocorrect today too! Wtf is a johnnycake?!grin

Cringey bit coming up. hmm

Oh yeah. I'm liberal on the outside but 'get your mitts off my kid' on the inside. Johnny is fab but they should have grassed up that arse Robbie earlier.

Just lucky elder sis doesn't fuck him.

Can't look....

LightHousekeeping Thu 27-Dec-12 22:57:19

You know, I think I'm the only one that wasn't into it

notnowbernard Thu 27-Dec-12 22:57:22

God, i LOVED this film when I was about 12-13

CatPussRoastingOnAnOpenFire Thu 27-Dec-12 22:58:48

I'd not judge him until I'd met him properly. If my DD was seeing him, I'd assume he had redeeming features.

Cringe

TeamSledward Thu 27-Dec-12 22:58:58

I thought this too!
There comes a point when you no longer relate to the protagonists of a film but rather their parents. I had this shocking realisation whilst watching The Goonies last week...

CatPussRoastingOnAnOpenFire Thu 27-Dec-12 22:59:11

I'd also be rather jealous!

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood Thu 27-Dec-12 22:59:45

I was also wondering this about my fave film!!
Johnny must be late 20's and baby was 16/17 hmmm as a parent not sure I would be delighted.

CatPussRoastingOnAnOpenFire Thu 27-Dec-12 23:00:00

Arf @ The Goonies! grin

TeamSledward Thu 27-Dec-12 23:00:30

Catpuss - the redeeming features are the lovely torso and the buttocks you want to bite.

Aspiemum2 Thu 27-Dec-12 23:03:50

It sucks, the film was far more enjoyable as a horny teenager than as an over protective mother! You are right, you are old when you no longer swoon over the 'bad boy' I guess sad

TeamSledward Thu 27-Dec-12 23:04:33

I really feel for the Goonie parents - those kids blame them for having to move, but don't realise that a mortgage has to be paid and it's not the fecking mortgage fairies that come up with the money.
And then they all go off on an "adventure" to god knows where, when there has been a local prison break by notorious criminals, and are missing for hours/days. Bloody selfish kids!

The kids in detention in The Breakfast Club aren't that amusing when you suddenly have a secondary school age child too, sad

St Elmo's Fire still my favourite though.

CatPussRoastingOnAnOpenFire Thu 27-Dec-12 23:07:30

Oh yeah! Although as a horny teen, I was always put off by the fact that Patrick Swayze reminded me of my Stepdad! Thankfully, nowadays, Stepdad had aged and Johnny hasnt! Problem solved! PS was drop dead gorgeous!

Verycold Thu 27-Dec-12 23:08:51

I once read a review which said PS is has two facial expressions - surprised and very surprised. Very true, especially if you watch him in Ghost grin

Johnnycakes are corn pancakes.

Or Patrick Swayzes butt cheeks.

Depending on your breakfast preference.

I'm the same with these Twighlight films. Stop snogging in a bloody meadow and go and do yer homework.

DH remarked that PS 'walked as if he had got something shoved up his bum' in DD. That was his only comment. confused

Obviously a slice of bacon and some maple syrup packed up the cleft of his Johnnycakes! grin

Roasties Thu 27-Dec-12 23:13:39

Pretty in Pink is the best

Twilight films even!

In reverse I find the mother of Kevin from Home Alone an absolute useless nightmare, and also dislike the judgeypants mum in Uncle Buck.

Duckie is my fave character in that Roasties but Andrew McCarthy better in St Elmo's Fire. smile

kim147 Thu 27-Dec-12 23:15:58

Breakfast club
Pretty in Pink
Dirty dancing

smile

I trump them all with-

About Last Night.

My absolute favourite ever.

MichelleRooJnr Thu 27-Dec-12 23:21:12

I just decided for definite, final, absolutes that PS in DD is the hawtest movie man EVER.
I always had my suspicions, but tonight's 600th(ish) time watching it confirmed it.
And it is now indisputable
Even hotter than John Malkovich in anything.
And that is saying something.
(And Baby's Dad is a grumpy old fart)

AlexReidsLonelyThisChristmas Thu 27-Dec-12 23:22:17

Mannequin for me, I still get all tense when she's dangling over the wood chipper machine, I've only seen it 4034 times in my lifetime, so know the ending by now. grin

MichelleRooJnr Thu 27-Dec-12 23:23:30

Binfullofgiblets - your post made me think of Kevin yum Bacon.
Packed up the cleft of PS's Johnnycakes hmm

No Michelle, because that would be Rob Lowe I am afraid. Sorry.

CatPussRoastingOnAnOpenFire Thu 27-Dec-12 23:26:51

I'm going to make DD13 sit through DD tomorrow.
I always wanted Baby's dad for my own. He is rather lovely in a stuffy kind of way!

Oooh Kevin Bacon. Now he can look at my Everything Everywhere any time he likes....

sashh Thu 27-Dec-12 23:28:42

Wtf is a johnnycake?

A Jamaicen style dumpling.

<wonders if the Jamaicen take away is open>

MichelleRooJnr Thu 27-Dec-12 23:28:53

ah ok sparklingbrook.
I will give you Rob Lowe as a very close second (or a tie if he's topless and sweaty).
And poor wee River Pheonix was heading the way of the mature buff too sad

SrirachaGirl Thu 27-Dec-12 23:35:57

I'm old but still swoon over Patrick Swayze. He is just divine in Dirty Dancing <melts>.

DrRanj Thu 27-Dec-12 23:38:05

Ah yes, don't they refer to johnnycakes in brown girl in the ring?

Mmmmm Jamaican takeaway.

Mmmmm patties, I blardy miss patties.

DrRanj Thu 27-Dec-12 23:51:42
SchnappsDamnYou Thu 27-Dec-12 23:51:54

sparkling I can do all the about last night dialogue...

Let me put my toddler to bed and then be can reminisce....(it's 6.51pm here)

Maybe we knew too much.,.,

Smeggnog Thu 27-Dec-12 23:56:51

I've never been able to watch Dirty Dancing again, since I saw the Family Guy 'alternate ending'. So true... grin

Tigerbomb Fri 28-Dec-12 00:48:06

I've never seen Dirty Dancing - is it really that good?

Alisvolatpropiis Fri 28-Dec-12 02:08:03

Aspiemum...if that is true I been old for quite some time!

CalamityKate Fri 28-Dec-12 02:14:57

I loved Some Kind of Wonderful. Eric Stoltz was lovely in that. And when he's practising kissing with Watts.... <swoon>

Verycold Fri 28-Dec-12 07:56:56

Yes that was a lovely one

GetorfsaMotherfuckingMorrisMan Fri 28-Dec-12 08:17:33

Lol at johnnycakes.

I agree with you OP, I would be furious if my dd started hanging around with a strangely mid-30s looking initerant hotel worker chancer when on holiday.

Also The Lost Boys. The bit where Corey Haim says to Jason Patric something like 'omg you're a vampire, mum's gonna KILL you'. I am that mum.

I used to think that the big brother in Goonies was a MEANIE when I was young, and now I just fancy the arse off him. So perhaps I have not matured that much.

AmandaCooper Fri 28-Dec-12 08:27:29

YANBU last night DH and I were watching Fiddler on the Roof and discussing whether Tevye and Golde should have done more to stop 17 year old Hodel leaving for Siberia to marry Perchik.

Schnapps I went to bed sorry. grin I so wanted to be Debbie in that film, she even looked good in dungarees. smile

Mrsrudolphduvall Fri 28-Dec-12 08:51:33

I never liked PS...his eyes are too narrow.

HazleNutt Fri 28-Dec-12 08:57:50

YANBU. PS was horrible, whiney and precious. Only danced wit Baby to piss off her dad.

Has everyone seen the deleted love scene in DD? Blimey.

kitsmummy Fri 28-Dec-12 09:17:47

Hazlenutt, you are so out of order angry, he did not dance with her to piss off her dad, he danced with her to show everyone how amazing she was - both on the dancefloor and as a person. He luffed her <strops off, having aggressively made my point>

Let's not get cross on the Dirty Dancing thread. sad

FreddieMercuryforQueen Fri 28-Dec-12 09:24:05

Dirty Dancing is my Dad's favourite film. He turned 60 in September. <Random disclosure>

kitsmummy Fri 28-Dec-12 09:24:19

grin

Ooh he might like the deleted scene then Freddie. But don't watch it with him. wink

BatmanLovesSparklyBaubles Fri 28-Dec-12 09:25:41

Blimey, sparkling, that's a bit steamy!

Isn't it just Batman? She is very bendy. envy

chosenone Fri 28-Dec-12 09:28:01

Woah !!! Never seen deleted scene before, I would've been blushing my head off if they'd left that in !!

BatmanLovesSparklyBaubles Fri 28-Dec-12 09:28:11

And he can hold her for aaaaaages. If my DH tried that, he'd end up in hospital with a broken back sad

Latara Fri 28-Dec-12 09:28:24

In DD Baby was meant to be 15...

I just hope Baby's Dad hasn't seen the deleted scene. wink

Latara Fri 28-Dec-12 09:29:38

I would have dated PS at that age though & my Mum would have killed him (or run off with him).

JakeBullet Fri 28-Dec-12 09:30:46

Wow! The deleted scene is a bit unrealistic steamy isn't it?

And I howled with laughter at the Family Guy one further back.....hilarious.

But yes....she's meant to be 15 and as a sensible 40 something I'd be shrieking with horror and calling the police.

kitsmummy Fri 28-Dec-12 09:32:23

I'm at work and i can't see the deleted scene.....this is killing me!!!

kits it isn't suitable viewing for work anyway. grin

This has to be the best Xmas ever. I got to watch and record Say Anything, I've fallen in love with John Cusack again. Had myself a bit of Ewan macgregor and today was the cherry on the bakewell, DD deleted scene. Thanks sparkling, my year has ended on a very very happy note.

I aim to please Binky, but I must confess I only knew about the deleted scene because of Mumsnet. smile

This is why I stick around grin

FreddieMercuryforQueen Fri 28-Dec-12 09:39:31

Good grief. That deleted scene is a bit erm raunchy. I will not be telling my Dad about that.

FreddieMercuryforQueen Fri 28-Dec-12 09:39:48

grin

Meanpants Freddie. sad

FreddieMercuryforQueen Fri 28-Dec-12 09:40:59

Haha. I might tell him then. But not when I'm there.

I wish I knew about the scene when I was younger, I was that flexible and BF at the time was strong enough to do it.
Joy of Sex you let me down BADLY..
Just asked DH how long he could hold me like that for he says about 10secs, which is better than nothing.

TeeThing2072 Fri 28-Dec-12 09:54:22

Holy cow that deleted scene! ::fans self::

Yes we will all be trying to recreate that scene later with or without a trip to A&E after. grin

A&E is going to be busy tonight.

Onezerozero Fri 28-Dec-12 10:00:22

Aw that clip brings back fond memories of when I was dating a six foot five gym obsessive as a five foot tall size six. Ahem.

grin One

JakeBullet Fri 28-Dec-12 10:24:37

Tis okay Binky, we can blame MN for allowing such racy discussions.

TeamSledward Fri 28-Dec-12 11:29:37

Bloody hell, that deleted scene was hawt! And I bet all 948 youtube views were from MNers.

Schnapps you about? grin

CatPussRoastingOnAnOpenFire Fri 28-Dec-12 20:13:34

<<faints>> <<revives>> <<fans self>>
Crikey! That scene would have been far too much for my 12 year old self! I'd have spontaneously combusted! grin

CatPussRoastingOnAnOpenFire Fri 28-Dec-12 20:14:13

That would only be possible if I was carrying DP! confused

grin Catpuss, do you need to watch it again just to be sure?

dementedma Fri 28-Dec-12 20:16:05

Wow - that deleted scene!
Hate to lower the tone - much - but they must have needed an underwear wardrobe change after that.

SchnappsDamnYou Fri 28-Dec-12 20:16:10

So? Tell me about last night....

CatPussRoastingOnAnOpenFire Fri 28-Dec-12 20:19:10

No Sparkling. I'd definitely need to be lifting DP! grin
I agree with Dementedma! I bet Baby sqeaked when she walked after that! grin

Well Schnapps, what can I say? It is my favourite film ever. I wanted to be Debbie and look fabulous, and spend time ogling baseball matches on the weekend. grin

Chubfuddler Fri 28-Dec-12 20:21:50

It's all a bit dry humpy though isn't it? Take your bloody trews off Patrick.

Getting back to the "sympathies with parents rather than protagonists" issue, I luffs Bella's dad in twilight. The bit when he's cleaning his gun and she says Edward wants to meet you and he cocks the gun and says ok show him in made me laugh out loud.

This is how I would look at Danny. wink

<arf> at 'dry humpy'. Chub.

But you had it! I gave you love. But you asked me to leave and I left.

Oh Danny why did you mess it all up? sad

SchnappsDamnYou Fri 28-Dec-12 20:31:11

Yay Sparkling. I was quoting the film. I love that film.
The casting and dialogue and Rob's arse are FABULOUS.
You know it was based on a play?
Sexual perversity in Chicago.

LeeCoakley Fri 28-Dec-12 20:31:19

But really, would a 15 year old girl in the 50s know about sexy moves like in that deleted scene? Dd3 is 15 and, well, I am having trouble imagining her in a matching bra and pants set let alone knowing how to arouse a 30 year old man. I loved it when I was younger but now as a parent of teenage dds I have pursed lips about the relationship. Love the music though. Hungry Eyes is my favourite.

SchnappsDamnYou Fri 28-Dec-12 20:31:52

I refuse to go out with a man whose ass is smaller than mine. ;)

SchnappsDamnYou Fri 28-Dec-12 20:32:55

Wiki says Baby is meant to be 17 not 15

I didn't want them to split up though Schnapps, it was perfect, then it all went wrong. sad Yes, I thought it based on a play.

Got to love Joan Schnapps-

Joan: 'And the Virgin Mary descended upon... '
Kid #1: What's a virgin?
Joan: A virgin is someone who's never had sex.
Kid #2: What's sex?
Joan: Sex is something men and women do to make a baby.
Kid #3: Are you a virgin?
Joan: No.
Kid #3: Do you have a baby?
Joan: No. People who don't want babies also have sex.
Kid #3: What for?
Joan: For about 10 or 15 minutes.

grin

Chubfuddler Fri 28-Dec-12 20:42:06

TBF that dry humpy stuff is just the moves from their dance routine much slowed down and with more hip contact. With Patrick swayze no problem for a 17 year old.

SchnappsDamnYou Fri 28-Dec-12 20:44:15

Tis is my room mate Joan. She specializes in unsolicited attacks. smile

I love Joan. Although her clothes are about 40 years too old for her. That night gown,my God.

Watched it again, I now know the secrets to a long marriage grin

SchnappsDamnYou Fri 28-Dec-12 20:46:31

But Danny needed to grow up and start a diner and be an adult instead of a shagging salesman with no self respect or respect for women.

I blame Bernie for Danny being a twat.
Although he came good in the end and stopped fighting the inevitable.
Danny being a stalker in the rain was very 24 year old behaviour.

Danny was gorgeous. He is the benchmark I keep for gorgeous men. Rob Lowe circa 1985. wink

sasamaxx Fri 28-Dec-12 20:49:24

I see all the teen 80s movies Nd raise you 'the sure thing' - defo the best f them all I.think

SchnappsDamnYou Fri 28-Dec-12 20:50:38

'Two nights a week I cook. Two nights a week he cooks.

Two nights we go out. And then there's sandwich night.'

'I bet your sex life is a real thrill.

Two nights a week you're on top. Two nights a week he's on top.

So what is it you do on sandwich night?'

Lol Joan

sasamaxx Fri 28-Dec-12 20:52:07

arrrgghhh sorry about the ridic autocorrect/typo disaster above.
'the sure thing' must be one of the beat 80s teen movies.

Me and DH used to have 'soup night' Schnapps. grin

sasa I have never seen that. shock Better than St Elmo's Fire, and About Last Night and Pretty In Pink? shock

sasamaxx Fri 28-Dec-12 20:55:12

omg sparkling it is so woefully underseen. no idea why. john cusack is beautiful in it

I may have to investigate sasa. DH's is 'Some Kind of Wonderful' and I don't think I have seen that either.

Chubfuddler Fri 28-Dec-12 20:56:38

Did someone say John cusack? My klaxon just went off

Oh mamma.

sasamaxx Fri 28-Dec-12 20:59:28

you must all now watch thus film - I challenge anyone not to love it. you will be sooooooo in love with him by the end. it is also witty and clever and really funny. oh and it has her out of desperate housewives in it too

NiniLegsInTheAir Fri 28-Dec-12 21:02:21

That deleted scene from DD annoys me. All that lovely slow dry humpy stuff and then they switch to good ol' missionary at the end? Talk about anti-climax. wink

Personally, I'd love to have Baby's dad as my own - wish mine would have given me £250 just for 'asking'. sad

RedTinsel Fri 28-Dec-12 21:06:51

Say Anything was on and I've missed it sad

In DD I don't think Johnny was supposed to be in his 30's, I thought he was supposed to be just a couple of years older.

I love 80's films, the Sure thing is brilliant. I love John Cusack.

Chubfuddler Fri 28-Dec-12 21:08:26

I've just Wiki'ed it.

Anthony Edwards is in it? As in goose in top gun? How don't I know about this film? I believe I may be the only teenage girl ever to fast forward top gun to get to goose bits.

ChristmasIsForPlutocrats Fri 28-Dec-12 21:31:27

Speaking of the shattering of teenaged idolatry, what about Patrick Swayze's future, playing a paedophile in Donnie Darko?!

sasamaxx Fri 28-Dec-12 21:48:11

LOL chubfuddler that's the one - I am always amazed at how few people have seen such an amazing film

Tee2072Thing Fri 28-Dec-12 21:50:45

My god an 80s film I've never heard of!

On LoveFilm list now!

sasamaxx Fri 28-Dec-12 22:01:02

Get it watched, people!
You will NOT regret it!

OhMerGerd Sat 29-Dec-12 04:37:58

Watched this with DD 16 the other night and the only thought running through my head during all the 'good' bits was ... " I hope this isn't giving her any ideas!!!' ... When she rather dreamily asked me who PS looked a bit like and I realised by her coy glances at her mobile phone that she meant her gym obsessed boyfriend (very slight and fleeting resemblence at certain angles) I slightly panicked and said ... ' erm the guy who plays kenickie in grease...' She squinted a bit at screen then gave me a suspicious look before saying she fancied some dancing lessons.... (tbf she has been saying throughout Strictly too) so I said she could come to Zumba with me ... which obviously was not what she had in mind .... and here's the killer .... my only comment during the final scene was ...'Imagine if you tried that at the school 'disco' ... which I followed with a falsely jolly little laugh and a nochalent 'any one fancy a cuppa? '. DH who had had wry smile throughout rolled his eyes and gave me the 'you've turned into your mother look' ... Lol ... Yep officially an oldie now.

Brilliant OhMer. grin Have you shown her the deleted scene?

almapudden Sat 29-Dec-12 10:30:55

Oh my. That deleted scene...I've come over all disapproving queer.

CrispyHedgeHogmanay Sat 29-Dec-12 12:59:34

ahh yes.. that deleted scene.. they used my sex life as inspiration for it grin

wanders off clutching her aching back
