me too! I want a job, I feel the need to do something different. But due to a variety of reasons, I am 29 & essentially in the same place as a brand new graduate... Hmmm...

LOL!

My rubbish-I-am list:
I am very squeamish, no powers of persuasion (could not sell booze to an alcoholic), shy and dread performance tasks (like public speaking, teaching), creatively and mechanically declined, easily distracted.... and I don't scrub up well (poor at personal presentation). I know all this for FACT because I have tried but failed to overcome them.

Other than that I'm very clever and reasonably patient, hard-working, tolerant & conscientious.

(off to do next dull task I've been procrastinating about)

ps: and I'm always hungry. Cannot think if I haven't been fed.

Not good at pushing things mainly as I feel guilty especially if I don't think what I'm having to push people into doing is a good deal or that it's not going to benefit them.

I'm too honest I couldn't lie In order to sell something or blag it if I don't know the answer to a question.

I do however always turn up on time, do as I'm supposed to do and will help out where I can.

I once temped with a girl who temped because she got too bored in a regular job. 3 days here, 4 days there... suited her fine. Worth a shot?

temping! What a brilliant idea!

I did temping for 6mths after splitting up with xH, it was brilliant. Most of the jobs were, just sit here and fill the spot. A was at a lawyers firm for a week and the told me to bring in a book to read, I was there in case they wanted something typed up. Brilliant I tell you.

Useful skills for temping: typing, use of Word, Excel at a push, answering phones, ability to look busy when actually not.

mmm sounds like stuff I can do

although whether I can sustain it for a whole working day at hours to suit someone else remains to be seen

but in meantime have made important decision to volunteer at a museum, if they will have me, will find out tomorrow. Then will find out whether am compatible with Work or not?

I'd love temping, but the hours are too inconsistent & short notice for me to arrange childcare & transport.

The best strategy with temping or any supply work is, I reckon, you say yes every time they ask. If it's at all physically possible to do it. Then they will put your name top of the list the next time they need to ask someone, they don't want to have to make more phone calls than necessary.

"compatible with working" . I think you'll find your wallet will LOVE it.

although maybe voluntary work is not the perfect way to make my wallet happy at first it might give it some hope for the future?

Can I just ask how you all manage to live without paid employment?

I Never know why more women don't work in factories. Repeatitive work, limited scope for office bitchiness, free uniform. It's not glamorous, but money is above NMW & if you learn basic skills such as manual handling, use of welding machines (not as hard as it sounds) or FLT Licence you can get regular or temp work easily.

Just a thought!

E320 I started a really long reply explaining why I don't have a job, but it bored even me. Short answer - two kids under 4, a relocation, & a DP who earns enough for us to get by on.

I have a tiny mortgage so it would probably be a different story if I desperately needed several hundred pounds a month for that.

OP - based on analysis of the personal qualities you've listed, the job that would suit you best is....

Ooh goodie, I will dust off the coffe-stained gdl then (with extra emphasis on constitutional matters) and start my campaign.

E320 I am independently wealthy have a dh earning enough I am also useless and out of touch after several years on 'career break' not convinced sitting on commitees and selling at the occasional car boot will convince any future potential employer of my worth - but I want to get geared up to work when dd2 starts school next September.

Maybe I can be a mumpreneur! Barf at the word though

E320: When I was well-paid we became mortgage free so we can get by on DH salary. I quit my old job (burned out anyway) thinking I'd find something else soon enough. Decade later, still haven't found it. .

am really pleased about volunteering at the museum, starting next week, it is very similar to A Job isn't it? Even if absolutely nobody else thinks so!

God knows what I want to do. Something not yucky or too performance related and that leaves me quids in after childcare & travel costs: oh, and not exhausted from the travelling & work.

If you can find voluntary work you love, brilliant. I have done a fair bit voluntary stuff in last 8 yrs but am jaded (sorry, personality politics everywhere, and I'm not even being paid to put with it!).

Im 32 to and dont know what I want to do when grow up.

cant afford go back uni.

cant get part time job as im not full flexible.

feel if dident have kids be easer.

Funny enough last night was thinking something has to change next year as i was putting free sachet of pepper from maccy ds on my pasta.

I have applied for jobs i would have easily got and some even did in past.

I dont have right skills.

I have 12years experience in retail
a dgree, alebvels , gcses
I was store manager pre kids

yet I dont meet any of criteria for low paid retail jobs even.

I know its just competition

that they have so many applications theres a cut off
