Well it takes a lot of effort so why not put it up for longer?
The kids are happy, job done.
I wouldn't get another free afternoon with them for a couple of wks so it seemed a good idea at the time.
And it looks fab!

Up to you OP...

Mines going up Saturday as it is then December and it means DD can stop begging for the tree all the live long day! She can move on to "canihavatreechocnowmum...please?"

Yanbu enjoy, enjoy, enjoy smile

OkayHazel Tue 27-Nov-12 01:09:09

So unreasonable! It's November!

toofattorun Tue 27-Nov-12 01:12:03

Each to their own. I always wait until the first weekend in December myself.

MardyBra Tue 27-Nov-12 01:17:28

Not unreasonable but very weird.

Pixel Tue 27-Nov-12 01:22:10

Up to you of course but I think you are a bit mad. The novelty will have worn off by Christmas surely and it is still November.

Lesbanian Tue 27-Nov-12 01:27:13

YABU I put my tree up on the 14th December, any earlier or later is wrong!

Thems the rules.

I LOVE Christmas, shopping all done and everything else organised on my to-do list but the fun, decorations, Christmas films and fancy foods don't start in this house until 1st of December (NEXT WEEK!)

KeatsiePie Tue 27-Nov-12 06:25:31

Ha, I am in the US and around here I'm running late on this! So many decorations went up and trees appeared in windows right before/right after Thanksgiving. I feel like a slacker not getting mine up yet. Gotta do it this week.

Sirzy Tue 27-Nov-12 06:33:06

What mardy said

karatekimmi Tue 27-Nov-12 06:50:33

Christmas decorations should not go up until after my birthday which is on the 4th of December! I can't believe this isn't the law yet!!!
<looks for petulant child emoticon>
I'll be 33 btw!

wonderingsoul Tue 27-Nov-12 07:09:17

i put ours up yesterday .... i normally do it the first friday of december but weve been feeling a bit meh so its cheered us up.

i take mine down the 26th/27th to get ready and kind of seperate christmass from ds2 birthday on 28th so do like to make the most of it.

( plus im normally sick of it and wanting to do a big house clean by then )

CambridgeBlue Tue 27-Nov-12 07:17:08

Up to you obviously so YANBU but personally I can't see why anyone would put their tree up in bloody November. Same with all the muppets queuing in the shopping centre to see FC at the weekend - why would you get your kids even more hyped up and excited, it's hard enough for them to understand how long it is until Christmas.

I love Christmas and have started to do a few bits but I don't even start thinking about it until after 1/2 term and absolutely no music/decorations/films until December otherwise you're sick of it all by the time it actually arrives.

The shops and adverts have been ridiculously early this year but I guess that's a sign of the times and their desperation to sell stuff.

HowDoidelete Tue 27-Nov-12 07:18:43

And should take a leaf out of my DFs book. Tree went up Xmas eve and torn down on new years day as it made the house look a mess grin

The tree will be going up on the 15th here and not before.

fluffyraggies Tue 27-Nov-12 07:26:50

Mine went up on Sunday grin

We're tied up tor the next 3 weekends running, and my DCs all wanted to be there together and help when the xmas dec's went up (sweet cos they're all teens) and Sunday was the only day we could all be there do it so how could i say no to that? Bless 'em.

dawnpreview Tue 27-Nov-12 07:31:32

Ours is up too. It's too early for me, but DH is working every day up to Christmas now and wanted to get it all up. Outside lights as well!

jamdonut Tue 27-Nov-12 07:33:40

Good grief! Its still November! Decorations go up 2weeks before Christmas in our house. They usually come down on 3rd January (Day after daughter's birthday. We don't have much room for a tree as it is and I'm just glad to see the back of everything and get back to normal!
There is a house nearby whose decorations went up 1st November...the full monty. It looked really daft as absolutely nobody else had anything up at that point!

Alligatorpie Tue 27-Nov-12 07:42:05

To me Xmas is in December.

Tree goes up and down, shopping is done, cards are written, music is played and baking is done, treats are eaten ( ok, I will happily eat and drink more than I need to in January!)

So I think YABU. But if it makes you happy, then great!

lookingfoxy Tue 27-Nov-12 07:46:09

I was desperate to put mine up at the weekend but DP (bah humbug) said no way till at least this weekend, guess what i'll be doing on saturday morning grin

NBU, I did too... first time ever mind, I normally wait til 1st Dec but needed cheering up

smilingthroughgrittedteeth Tue 27-Nov-12 08:19:33

Ours is going up on saturday because we have my dsc here so we will decorate it as a family, they won't be with us again until the 28th when we will be having our second christmas.

Chopstheduck Tue 27-Nov-12 08:23:07

I'm really looking forward to trimming up, but it is a bit too early. I used to get sick of seeing it, and fed up with the clutter. Then we started packing away all the normal stuff (ornaments, pictures, dvd stands) at xmas to make room for the decs, and it was like a revelation! The house actually looks quite nice at xmas now, and rather bare when we go back to normal.

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah Tue 27-Nov-12 08:24:50

Yanbu to do as you please in your own home

Ywbvvvu as a grown adult to then take photos and spam up my farcebook feed with how excited you are about Santa coming hmm

Mine goes up around the 15th December. The house opposite has got there's up all ready and a fair few others have too. Seems to be earlier this year than any others that I can remember.

CambridgeBlue Tue 27-Nov-12 08:33:52

PurplePidj grin

streakybacon Tue 27-Nov-12 08:34:39

Mine's going up on 11th December as it's the only free afternoon I've got between now and Christmas sad.

carabos Tue 27-Nov-12 08:56:17

Up to you of course. Ours goes up the sunday before Xmas day, so this year that will be the 23rd I think. Comes down on 12th night. I wouldn't like it up any sooner.

DeathMetalMum Tue 27-Nov-12 09:00:13

Very weird for me to have it up this early also. As a child we would go out and buy our christmas tree on the day we broke up from school. My dad would be waiting for us instead of mum who it usually was and the tree would either get put up that evening or the next day. Followed by my dad christmas decorations masterpiece.

We will probably put ours up mid December, and take it down by the 6th of January.

dawntigga Tue 27-Nov-12 09:06:15

YABU for every Christmas tree/decorated house before December Santa drowns a baby reindeer.

DrCoconut Tue 27-Nov-12 09:27:11

I like to wait until school breaks up. Advent comes first then Christmas. And the tree is not taken down before 12th night. But that's our house! Up to you what you do. smile

StrawberriesTasteLikeLipsDo Tue 27-Nov-12 09:31:09

My decs are coming in from storage tonight, as need to find stockings and advent calendar to give them a wash, decs will be put up friday night, ready as a surprise for DS (3) saturday morning smile I would normally leave it later but having ELCS 21/12 so feel like everything must be done in good time this year!

Jingleflobba Tue 27-Nov-12 10:16:48

I am jealous. DH very rarely puts his foot down about anything but the Christmas tree going up before the 1st of December is a real thing of his so I'm not doing it till Saturday. I am very envy

Dillydollydaydream Tue 27-Nov-12 10:20:15

Our tree will go up Sunday ad it'll be December then (just)!

wonderingsoul Tue 27-Nov-12 10:21:26

that would be me then grin

SoniaGluck Tue 27-Nov-12 11:45:47

It's not even Advent yet shock

Tree and Christmas greenery up on 24th and taken down on Twelfth Night.

A traditionalist, that's what I am. grin

Mintyy Tue 27-Nov-12 11:47:10

Yabvu. V. U.

What Mintyy said.

I used to be a 20th Dec sort of person. This year we are getting tree from the School Fair - on 8th Dec, and I think that is too early!

manicinsomniac Tue 27-Nov-12 12:04:50

It's November.

I'm with SoniaGluck , our tree and other decorations go up on Christmas Eve and not before, no matter how much the children whine! grin

Give them something to do on Christmas Eve afternoon anyway!

ours going up this week as busy next weekend and then away then busy weekenf

SugarplumMary Tue 27-Nov-12 12:08:54

Thank goodness - SoniaGluck and manicinsomniac we get called all sorts by people becuase that's what we do.

But enjoy.

PickledGerkin Tue 27-Nov-12 12:10:08

My Dad's is up already, as children it would go up on 29th November as my sister's birthday is 28th November so she had one day of celebrations grin

We LOVED it as kids, and all the neighbours used to moan at my poor Mum who would have happily waited until 24th December!

Personally mine goes up on 8th December this year, I like to build the Christmas excitement, 1st December advent calendars, then the Christmas tablecloth, then the placemats, the children's Christmas mugs. The tree is part of the whole festivities. I don't have a set date, just a Saturday.

So no, YANBU, I would smile if I saw a Christmas tree up.

imnotmymum Tue 27-Nov-12 12:11:02

We go to get ours on the 1st December and a new decoration and it is up until Jan 2nd. I must agree a lot of lights going up earlier this year.
UR to me but hey if you happy then happy xmas.

Cahoootz Tue 27-Nov-12 12:13:00

Unless you live in a shopping mall then YABU...... But what the heck! You are not doing anyone any harm and if you enjoy it then thats OK.

...but please take them down before february.

EverlongLovesHerChristmasRobin Tue 27-Nov-12 12:15:42

It's November fgs!

ENormaSnob Tue 27-Nov-12 12:23:32

I'm a christmasaholic and it's way too early for me.

EuroShagmore Tue 27-Nov-12 12:46:25

It's November, ffs.

ButternutSquish Tue 27-Nov-12 13:24:01

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too early! Our tree goes up on the weekend before Christmas and down usually on New Years day when hung over! My DP always wants the tree up before then but I just can't do it! My compromise is we put up our MAHOOSIVE lit reindeer in the window whenever he can be bothered to get it in from the garage.

LadyMaryCrawley Tue 27-Nov-12 13:32:16

Ours goes up on Christmas Eve too, because then it's a complete novelty when you get up on Christmas Day.

Also because we have cats and I don't want my handiwork torn to pieces before the event smile

I usually agree with all the 'too early'-ers, but my life is that fucking depressing at the moment I'm doing everything I can to gee myself up a bit.

Is that really so very wrong?

zlist Tue 27-Nov-12 16:36:49

Totally up to you. I would be completely sick of the sight of it by Christmas day though and as a consequence it would take a bit of the fun out of Christmas for me (because I would be itching to get the whole thing over and done with before it had even started!).
I usually put up the tree the weekend before Christmas (and take it down on boxing day!). At a stretch I can do mid December until 27th December.

marjproops Tue 27-Nov-12 17:01:04

we're putting ours up on Saturday 1st dec and i usually take it all down by 28th dec. it takes forever to untangle lights etc etc so I dont like putting it all up for only 12 days. and DC loves all the twinkly lights and stuff.

MsElleTow Tue 27-Nov-12 17:05:35

I like Christmas and am very organised, but this is way too early! Your baubles will get all dusty!

BatCave Tue 27-Nov-12 17:08:44

YANBU it's your choice I think you're crazy

wm3010 Tue 27-Nov-12 17:09:48

We have a real tree so have to wait until about 2 weeks before Christmas to make sure it lasts. We do however leave it up until the tree starts to look rough, usually mid to late January. My dh is n
ot from the UK so thinks the 12th night thing is a bit mad!

gwenniebee Tue 27-Nov-12 17:09:56

Yes. It's not even Advent.

PeshwariNaan Tue 27-Nov-12 17:11:00

Mine's up. Being American (ex pat), the traditional time to put up the tree is the weekend after Thanksgiving. We had three Thanksgivings over the past few days (!) and I put our tree up Monday!

peeriebear Tue 27-Nov-12 17:11:12

Our tree will go up on Sunday I expect. I am toying with putting the ceiling decorations up early though as 11wo DS will enjoy looking at them!
Would a baby reindeer be drowned for that? shock

CheerMum Tue 27-Nov-12 17:25:47

Normally we put ours up Dec 1st but ours has gone up today. I got so stressed out yesterday dealing with Fucking Currys over my crappy vacuum that I upset dd who is a sensitive soul and worries when mommy gets upset. To make it up to her we've done it today, and I've baked brownies.
Am just a bit miffed as Dh though cos I ALWAYS have a glass of sherry when doing the tree and I asked him to buy some today and he didn't angry it's not the same without it
