...to think I might be pregnant?

I've had a chest infection/heavy cold for about 2 weeks and am over a week late. I'm never normally late - not even a day but I don't have any other pregnancy related symptoms.

DP and I have decided to start trying next year so the timing wouldn't be great as we could be in a better position financially.

AIBU to think I need to POAS or is it possible that this god awful cold has just messed up my cycle!?

diddl Tue 20-Nov-12 09:36:39

Well it could have, I guess, although for me nothing altered my periods-illness, medication, stress...

Have you had unprotected sex??

Or using contraception that might have failed?

AlphaBeta82 Tue 20-Nov-12 09:36:43

POAS!!!!!!

Elkieb Tue 20-Nov-12 09:37:15

Poas!

POAS!

missymoomoomee Tue 20-Nov-12 09:38:09

It is possible that you being ill has messed your cycle up, but you know you have to POAS anyway to put your mind at ease.

iwantalittleone Tue 20-Nov-12 09:43:30

Diddl - I am on the pill but do forget to take it sometimes, although this has always been the case and I've never had an accident!

As you can probably tell from my name, I can't wait to have a baby but now I feel a bit nervous!!

You'll be fine, just go and get a test. Boots do cheap ones!

SlipperyNipple Tue 20-Nov-12 09:55:19

Test. I'm never that late for illness but it is possible I suppose.

brainonastick Tue 20-Nov-12 09:56:05

If you've had unprotected sex then it is always a possibility.

So go POAS!

iwantalittleone Tue 20-Nov-12 10:09:06

Yes, I'm just delaying the inevitable, I shall go and get a test this afternoon.

Really nervous as I'd like to be in a better financial position but at the same time a little bit excited as all I want is to be a mum!

readyforno2 Tue 20-Nov-12 10:18:55

I fell pregnant whilst on the pill... POAS

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda Tue 20-Nov-12 10:22:59

I had a horrible cold/flu for 6 weeks before it dawned on me that I didn't and it was all pregnancy symptoms.

iwantalittleone Tue 20-Nov-12 10:36:52

FlaminNora - wow really? Were they the only symptoms you had?

Thanks for all the replies, I think I needed some encouragement!

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda Tue 20-Nov-12 10:42:13

For the first 6/7 weeks I just had cold/flu like symptoms. Blocked nose, coughing, fever, headaches. Around 7/8 weeks I got nausea but no sickness, which was worse depending on how over heated I was. It was only when my breasts starting really hurting around 10 weeks that I started to suspect pregnancy. Now I'm 16 weeks and I still have a cough and am bunged up. I didn't know before hand that so much extra mucus was even a pregnancy symptom.

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda Tue 20-Nov-12 10:43:19

I did suspect when the nausea kicked in but dismissed as not possible (too old).

iwantalittleone Tue 20-Nov-12 10:45:48

No I wouldn't suspect pregnancy at all other than the fact my period is late!

Congratulations by the way!

This time last year I was coming out the end of a stinking god awful cold, A week later I woke up with sore gibloodygantic tits, and now there is a baby sleeping upstairs. I had no other symptoms.... So POAS an come back and tell us. Good luck OP.

POAS grin

honeytea Tue 20-Nov-12 12:04:02

Sounds like you could be pregnant! I had no symptoms till around 7 weeks with my pregnancy, I was expecting to be throwing up and weeping but nope I felt normal.

I have friends who had illness as their 1st pregnancy symptom, I think your immune system lowers so your body cna except the embryo.

POAS!! smile

AIBU to want to be pregnant again? What with this and googling Fearne Cotton.

kittyandthegoldenfontanelles Tue 20-Nov-12 12:59:31

I had flu symptoms from 6-12 weeks. They were my ONLY symptoms. Apart from rampant horniness.....

Fakebook Tue 20-Nov-12 13:03:16

I always get a cold when I get pregnant from week 4/5. I've had 6 pregnancies (2 successful) and got a cold/flu every single time without fail.

skiesmylimit Tue 20-Nov-12 14:08:11

Ooo do update us!

iwantalittleone Tue 20-Nov-12 14:41:11

Saggy - haha that made me laugh.

I am going to have a walk to the shop later and buy a test so will come back on to update.

AIBU to think I will be a teensy bit upset if it's negative now I've thought about it properly!?

honeytea Tue 20-Nov-12 14:42:03

yanbu to hope it's +, good luck!

Ooh, ooh, a POAS thread! Yeeey! Hope it's the result you want OP smile (You will never be financially in the right position to have a baby by the way. There's always one more bonus, or promotion, or holiday, or bedroom etc. If you feel ready as a couple, go for it smile)

iwantalittleone Tue 20-Nov-12 14:56:15

Antoinette - thank you, I know you are right - would just like to pay the credit card off first haha! I feel I have been ready forever and as a couple we are too, we are very happy together, we both have good jobs and own our home. The next step may have just come sooner than expected!

iwantalittleone Tue 20-Nov-12 18:18:39

Well...just done the test and it was negative. I feel really sad actually but it must be for the best.

Do I need to worry that I've had no period and not pregnant?

MrsDeVere Tue 20-Nov-12 18:25:53

I am sorry you are sad about the negative result.

I don't know about the late period. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can advise.

honeytea Tue 20-Nov-12 18:25:59

I sorry sad Your time will come and you and your DP can have fun trying.

I'm not sure about the lack of period, maybe leave it another week and go to the dr if you still havn't started your bleeding.

iwantalittleone Tue 20-Nov-12 19:09:31

Thank you both. I'd said myself it wasn't the right time. At least I'll feel better money wise when it does happen smile.

Hopefully it's just the cold messing things up!

I'm sorry OP sad Maybe it's helped clarify what you want though?

greeneyed Tue 20-Nov-12 20:42:36

Sorry OP sad

I Am sorry to hear that OP. Although maybe you get abit more financial breathing space. But if the negative made you more sad, maybe forget about the monies and go at it for it.

iwantalittleone Wed 21-Nov-12 09:38:57

Thanks for your kind words. I'm feeling a little relieved this morning. I want to be in the best position I think we can be to provide for a baby and am a great believer that it will happen when the time is right! I don't think I would like the added stress of outstanding debts whilst pregnant. Definitely trying to look at it positively today!
