After last years brilliant campaign and wonderful song by Slow Moving Millie I am really looking forward to this years effort even though it's only October.

I have heard on the grapevine that the song being used this year is Frankie Goes to Hollywoods 'The Power of Love' but re done by the utterly brilliant Imogen Heap.

Should be well worth waiting for.

LondonKitty Sat 06-Oct-12 07:42:55

I can't believe there's a thread on this! I only just said it to my husband the other day. Whoever they have doing their ads for them at the moment is really talented. I wondered how the Christmas ad could beat the current one. It's just lovely.

catgirl1976 Sat 06-Oct-12 07:43:20

Even the thought of it is making me feel all festive.

And since having DS I cry at everything so no doubt this will have me sobbing in a heap on the floor. Even if it is shite grin

LondonKitty Sat 06-Oct-12 07:52:58

Oh it won't be shite! And yes, we'll all be weeping and wanting to hug our kids. Even if they're all 'gerroff you mad cow'.

Ohh I'd love a preview.

ZiggyPlayedGuitar Sat 06-Oct-12 07:54:46

Yanbu, I love Christmas and everything about it, including the John Lewis advert! Hate the shitty recycled coca cola advert they play every year though.

I expect you'll soon have loads of Christmas killjoys come along soon

LondonKitty Sat 06-Oct-12 08:41:59

Go away Christmas killjoys!

Yes coca cola need a new ad.

But I think I will still prefer the John Lewis one. That little boy last year looks just like mine! Even thinking about it makes me sniff a little...

<huge sentimental sigh>

Himalaya Sat 06-Oct-12 08:44:15

What is that time travel/love one all about confused

CockyPants Sat 06-Oct-12 08:46:25

Marking place. Love a festive heart warmer JL ad.

Frontpaw Sat 06-Oct-12 08:50:13

I hope its better than the current one (the half frame 1930s/present day love story). Its poo!

I agree - you can't beat the Coke Holidays are commin', holidays are comin' ad.

GrimAndHumourless Sat 06-Oct-12 08:50:56

the time travel one is the September one, they always do a Sept one and then a Xmas one nearer to Dec

Frontpaw Sat 06-Oct-12 08:58:07

Its still crap...

IShallCallYouSquishy Sat 06-Oct-12 08:58:26

I'm not only looking forward to the advert but super looking forward to the brand new store opening where I live next week!! <loser emoticon>

Frontpaw Sat 06-Oct-12 09:01:14

I do like JL!

LondonKitty Sat 06-Oct-12 09:10:32

Oh but I love the September one! I think it's so cute! Young love being the same at different times.... <sigh!>

But age is making me increasingly sentimental!

I hope it is better than last year's severed head in a box one. grin

Molehillmountain Sat 06-Oct-12 09:27:08

Love the ad. Makes me feel warm and glowing. However, I still do all my Christmas shopping online or in places with three for two offers smile

Annunziata Sat 06-Oct-12 09:28:26

YANBU! I love them. Really like the new one too.

Isityouorme Sat 06-Oct-12 09:29:42

Also looking forward to the Marks and Spencer's advert ..... Love it too ....

sashh Sat 06-Oct-12 10:14:51

Will it be the boy with the dog's head in a box again?

YouMayLogOut Sat 06-Oct-12 10:18:53

YABU. All cheesy and emotionally manipulative - they just want your cash!

OptimisticPessimist Sat 06-Oct-12 10:22:11

YANBU. Hoping for a new Yeo Valley farmers one as well grin

TheHeirOfSlytherin Sat 06-Oct-12 10:26:11

Yanbu, but I hope they never change the coca cola Xmas advert. That advert is an essential part of the Xmas build up for me and has been since I was a child!

Who will be doing the Iceland one this year though?

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 12:00:29

* this is me looking at you thinking fucking hell lady GET A LIFE *

you are looking forward do an ADVERT?

i think karl marx would be turning in his grave

Bonny have you heard of a lighthearted AIBU thread? grin

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 12:01:57

i be you all ponce about with christmas traditions threads and fucking put icing sugar on your landing and think you are the only one to think of it and wanky christmas pyjamas

THEN on xmas day afternoon you are on here moaning that no one appreciated everything you did, basically as you were the only one who actually Gave A Fuck, and got yourself into a complete tizz about it

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 12:02:13

no i HATE threads like this

( ps 'ello darlin')

Who pissed on your cornflakes Bonny? confused

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 12:02:43

have you SEEN how many christmas tradition threads there are?
its like baby pasta all over a frigging gain

Well i won't be buying new PJs or icing the landing, and i do know what you mean Bonny. I am not a huge Christmas fan TBH.

GrimAndHumourless Sat 06-Oct-12 12:04:09

hah Bonny I saw baby pasta the other day and thought of yew

Tell me about baby pasta

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 12:05:39

oh in Ye Olde days they stopped making it. And the mother hood of the ( very small mn then) MN went bananas. there was a thread a day asking where it was.

the answer was always " go to your local Italian deli"
and all of us out of the M25 looked as blank then as we do when they refer to fishmongers or local alterations service.

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 12:06:44
EllenParsons Sat 06-Oct-12 12:07:23

Ooh I love Imogen Heap! I will love the ad if she's singing on it.

I like the current one but my sister was really confused and thought it was for a dating agency hahah smile

grin I remember Milupa used to do 'Baby Gravy' which made me <arf> every time I saw it. Never heard of baby pasta, my two never had any. OMG have I done them a disservice? <panics>

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 12:08:09

yup - as bad as not breastfeeding.

honestly - they will never get on from stage 4 ORT

OMG that's why I had to get DS1 a maths tutor in Year 2 isn't it? sad

DontmindifIdo Sat 06-Oct-12 12:10:21

I love all things Christmassy, including the John Lewis advert.

Bonny, Christmas is fun.

Christmas is fun in December sometimes. wink

Scheherezade Sat 06-Oct-12 12:35:30

I love Christmas grin my mum hated it and refused to have anything to do with it as a kid, when I got older I stayed at friends houses and had Christmas with their families. It's made me go the complete opposite, I want to enjoy and have loads of fun at Christmas, and show a positive happy atmosphere for my DCs, I never ever want my family to be exposed to the same sad, cold, bitter joyless time that I had as a kid.

balotelli Sat 06-Oct-12 14:53:33

Bonny crawl back into your bed and get out the otherside you miserable sod!.

and I am not a lady but a sentimental christmas and Imogen Heap loving male with three kids and really looking forwrad to seeing their faces on christmas morning.

It makes being a parent even better.

So I will be the first to wish you all HAPPY CHRISTMAS !!! grin

Disenchanted4 Sat 06-Oct-12 14:58:20

YANBU!! I saw a still photo of last years advert and actually shed a tear with giddyness

yes im a saddo :D

Numberlock Sat 06-Oct-12 15:01:45

I can't forgive Morrissey for giving JL permission to use that track. Shame on him.

And I'm starting a Bonny fan club.

redlac Sat 06-Oct-12 15:04:56

As long as its not some whiney female singer murdering a Smiths song ill be happy

redlac Sat 06-Oct-12 15:05:41

I agree numberlock - my love for Moz reduced a little when I heard that awful version

GrimAndHumourless Sat 06-Oct-12 15:06:13

bound to be a whiney female, always is

redlac Sat 06-Oct-12 15:07:18

Is it the whiney female murdering an inxs song that is the current JL advert?

Isn't it Paloma Faith doing the INXS song? I quite like her, but all this song pinching shouldn't be allowed.

Numberlock Sat 06-Oct-12 15:08:55

That song was an anthem to unrequited love and he turned it into a middle class spending spree. Please please please let me get an iPhone and a nice Ted Baker bag.

Fuck off.

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 15:42:28

christmas is fine. its the mass hysteria on here thats shit.
male or female

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 15:42:55

Lol Numberlock - or a fecking Radley bag and some stretch boots

Frontpaw Sat 06-Oct-12 16:15:05

Which INXS song? Have I missed something (as usual). I like Paloma Faith, she's a poppet!

'Never tear us apart' is the INXS song in the latest ad Frontpaw.

Numberlock Sat 06-Oct-12 17:40:37

Now if Morrissey had agreed to let JL use Shoplifters of the World Unite, I'd have a shed load of respect for him...

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 17:41:41

I dont watch adverts, they are for common people.

YouMayLogOut Sat 06-Oct-12 17:44:23

How do you know if you don't watch them Bonny? grin

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 17:49:16

i know of their existence, like you might know of DFS sofas

katykuns Sat 06-Oct-12 17:50:42

I loved the JL advert... I am not particularly gooey or sentimental, but it had me bawling, and if I talk about it to other people, I get feckin' teary!

Damn you JL!

Numberlock Sat 06-Oct-12 17:52:15

But don't you want to live like common people, Bonny?

MaryZed Sat 06-Oct-12 17:56:02

It's only fucking October shock

<reports post>

<runs and hides>

balotelli Sat 06-Oct-12 18:00:29

Imogen Heap is a genius not a 'Whiney Female' Its also a classic christmas song if thats the one thats being done.

Numberlock Sat 06-Oct-12 18:01:50

I expected more from a City fan balotelli wink

ScatterChasse Sat 06-Oct-12 18:04:10

Is the CocaCola advertisement the one with the girl ice-skating and you see her grow up and have her own family? I think it's lovely.

I like the current JL one, so I hope the Christmas one is as good (although I think 6th October is a little bit too early to mention it. We have Hallowe'en, All Saints' Day, Bonfire Night, St. Andrew's Day, my birthday etc. etc. to get through first!).

DilysPrice Sat 06-Oct-12 18:25:39

I didn't realise Baby Pasta was a Thing. My DCs (entering puberty) still have it regularly because it cooks quicker and I'm running late, special little alphabet letters from the local Portuguese deli, which we used to use for literacy games.Do I win MNiest MNer of the day? Or will bonny take out a hit on me?

balotelli Sat 06-Oct-12 21:31:26

As a City fan I have wonderful taste . Imogen Hope is a genius as are Puressence and the JL ads are better than most of the shit programmes.... apart from MOTD where we win the title....... AGAIN grin

Scheherezade Sat 06-Oct-12 22:26:08

<partner to an avid utd fan born and raised in Trafford>

I'd have to disagree grin
