to hate the phrase "nudie rudie"?

Okay, this is utterly trivial. But here goes anyway.

If my MIL - who is lovely - ever encounters my DSs (who are 2 and 4) naked - running about after a bath, getting ready for bed, whatever - she always goes "Oooh, nudie rudie!" I've heard her say it about her DGDs too. She literally says it EVERY TIME she encounters an unclothed child.

I just hate it. I'm fairly relaxed about nakedness, and my DSs don't, yet, think that naked = rude. I'd like to preserve that for a wee bit longer. I can't seem to find a way to ask her not to say it to my DCs without sounding mean or disrespecful. So I'll just grumble on here...

wolvesdidit Wed 03-Oct-12 16:32:41

I call my nudie dudies. Both love being naked (age 6 and 3) and could not care a fig who sees them so they appear to be unscathed smile

pigletmania Wed 03-Oct-12 16:33:02

I hate te phrase amazeballs even more.

squeakytoy Wed 03-Oct-12 16:34:45

oh get over yourself!!!

WorraLiberty Wed 03-Oct-12 16:36:10

You're right it is trivial.

On the other hand, if your 4yr old doesn't think there's anything rude about being naked, she/he will soon find out different if they randomly decide to strip off in school when they start grin

CookingFunt Wed 03-Oct-12 16:38:10

I call mine nudie rudies.
Hate amazeballs too.

kekouan Wed 03-Oct-12 16:39:48

Mine is a nudie toad confused

totes amazeballs.

CookingFunt Wed 03-Oct-12 16:40:26

Words my mother never said nudie rudie. I got in such trouble on the first non uniform day lol.

CookingFunt Wed 03-Oct-12 16:41:20

Worra not words.

ErrorError Wed 03-Oct-12 17:08:13

My mum says "rudey dudey"... I don't think it's offensive, just a comical term, esp when accompanied with look of mock shock. If you're DCs are comfortable with their nakedness anyway as you say, then it shouldn't matter.

MarysBeard Wed 03-Oct-12 17:09:28

Never heard it before.

I say rudey dudey. It's just a jokey phrase. My girls love being naked. Oldest is nearly 9.

mogandme Wed 03-Oct-12 17:11:05

I say Rudey Dudeys smile

Megatron Wed 03-Oct-12 17:11:35

It's rudie nudie in our house followed by lots of Benny Hill like running around the house. From the children, not me you understand.

CogitoErgoSometimes Wed 03-Oct-12 17:12:15

YABU.... How on earth does a kid work out that grandma giggling 'nudey rudie' at them means they should be embarrassed to be naked?

i heard the expression rudy nudie, from bil. i like it when they are little.

Pochemuchka Wed 03-Oct-12 17:15:41

We say 'nakey snakey' invented by my 3 year old. Is this acceptable?

5madthings Wed 03-Oct-12 17:15:45

Yabu we say it to our five it hasnt given them any issues.

Its made more funny as ds4 is called rudi our nudey rudi dudey boy! or roodlebug or whatever nickname we are currently using.

Its always said jovily and in a jokey manner in our house and not taken seriously.

BelleJolie Wed 03-Oct-12 17:20:30

We have what we call 'the nudie rudie run' in our house... DS (14 months) loves nothing more than getting out the bath and running around naked before we catch him and get him dressed for bed.

I didn't think anything of calling it the nudie rudie's just a bit of fun and we certainly don't, in our minds, attach any negative connotations to it!

CogitoErgoSometimes Wed 03-Oct-12 17:24:32

What would seriously mess up their self-consciousness would be if MIL didn't allow the kids out of the bathroom until they had donned full-length clothing, hats and gloves and then made them prostrate themselves on the floor & pray forgiveness to the almighty for their flagrant shame....

... just my granny then?

mimbleandlittlemy Wed 03-Oct-12 17:25:59

Oh lordy. ds aged 10 will fly past shouting "it's a rudey nudey" at some point most days, usually followed by the sound of his maniacal laughter as he sprints back up the stairs having grabbed something from the wash. I'll really miss it when he gets to the self conscious stage and doesn't do it any more, but the phrase obviously hasn't made him think nudity is wrong at any point over the last 10 years that's for sure.

MadgeHarvey Wed 03-Oct-12 17:28:21

Never ceases to amaze me the energy some people have for getting worked up about - well - it's just shit really isn't it?
Amazegosh is what it is!

littlemisssarcastic Wed 03-Oct-12 17:28:42

Nudie Rudie has never made a child suddenly want to cover up unless they already felt uncomfortable being naked around people iyswim.

OTOH my mother calls my DD 'sexy bum/sexy legs' whenever DD is naked or wearing leggings. Makes me cringe every time but i try to ignore because it's not said nastily.

I'd rather 'Nudie Rudie' tbh.

BigFatLegsInWoolyTIghts Wed 03-Oct-12 17:29:05

It won't affect their views of their bodies honestly.

pepperrabbit Wed 03-Oct-12 17:29:22

Oh dear, mine are scarred for life then.
Naked kids are always nudey rudeys in our house!
As are anything that has been peeled....
DD will only eat nudey rudey apples, and she's partial to nudey rudey cucumber too.

GothAnneGeddes Wed 03-Oct-12 17:31:36

It's nudie-nude in our house, usually accompanied by a dance of joy for our dd.

WorraLiberty Wed 03-Oct-12 17:32:40

OMG I called my mate's little girl Crazy Maisey this morning shock

I wonder if her mum's an MNetter?

Keep an eye out for a thread entitled "AIBU to think my mate shouldn't be inferring my daughter has a mental health problem?"

I am dreading being a MIL. I am going to get it all wrong.

My mil used to say it's 'disgusting' which I do think us awful. I just can't get worked up about nudie rudie.

pictish Wed 03-Oct-12 17:34:19

My ds2 is Rudi - so he really IS a nudey Rudi! grin

Anyway - OP - don't worry about it. It doesn't matter at all.

peeriebear Wed 03-Oct-12 17:35:36

Mine do the 'nudie dance' which involves wiggling ones bum in time while singing "nudie nudie nuuuudie, nudie nudie nuuuudie..."

squoosh Wed 03-Oct-12 17:38:33

Nudie Rudie is fine when referring to a child but I have heard with mine very own ears an adult refer to their own nudity as Nudie Rudie.

My toes still haven't uncurled.

InvisibleHotPinkWeasel Wed 03-Oct-12 17:42:58

My Mil used rudie nudie and now do do I. I like it.
As for embarrass them, nope only encouraged the little buggers more grin

halcyondays Wed 03-Oct-12 17:43:52

Never heard it before. I doubt it will affect them that much.

timeforathink Wed 03-Oct-12 17:51:17

Nudie dude is what we say. especially when chasing little man to pinch his peachy bum lol .
Hes 4 its so innocent and lovely that they havent got a care in the word and can run round naked , he spent the first 3 years naked most of the time , dressed him to go out of course , think its cute nudie dudie smile

TheCountessOlenska Wed 03-Oct-12 17:54:58

I don't like "sexy" when applied to a child but we all say "nudie rudie" in this house!

BarredfromhavingStella Wed 03-Oct-12 17:57:05

Rudey Dudey in this house too along with bare bears, sure they will both be scarred for life hmm

Pandemoniaa Wed 03-Oct-12 17:58:49

especially when chasing little man to pinch his peachy bum

Now that does conjure up a picture of Benny Hill...

<apologises for irrational hatred of expression "little man">

StellaNova Wed 03-Oct-12 18:00:13

I call them nude-igans

PickledFanjoCat Wed 03-Oct-12 18:01:26

Ooh! I say who's a rudie nudie to ds.

Op - overthinkage!

DesperatelySeekingPomBears Wed 03-Oct-12 18:05:50

Naaaaaaked baby in our house. Or nuddy-pants.

We say bare bummed bandits!

After the bath, we play a game called 'naked babies all over the place', it's very complicated, you have to run around naked whilst shouting the aforementioned title.

Nudie rudie wouldn't bother me, sexy does though. 4 people I have had to tell to stop calling my children that. They had the cheek to be all offended.

sudaname Wed 03-Oct-12 18:17:37

My DHs DGDs DSF (work that one out) came to pick her up (aged 8) at our house once and she was lying on the floor when he came in putting her wellies on. They started to play fight and giggle and banter etc (she was stalling basically) and she called him a silly name and he said 'come on sexy and you know it, get up lets go'.

DH and l were both confused shock and DH more than a little angry

We had the radio on in the car a few days later and a song with the lyrics 'sexy and you know it' came on and DGD obviously really liked it and was singing along at top of her voice.

l just really think the word sexy isnt such a huge deal with young people today.

But l would much rather he had called her 'nudie, rudie' all the same.

sudaname Wed 03-Oct-12 18:19:12

Not that she was nude at the time you understand but you know what l mean.

WhoremoaneeGrainger Wed 03-Oct-12 18:19:56

Nudie Rudie in my house too. And dd (10) still shrieks it as she runs past her dad if she has showered and forgotten her pj's (tho these days she has a towel wrapped around her, i must admit).

IceBergJam Wed 03-Oct-12 18:20:44

We say rudie trudie. Sorry if thats your name!

LemarchandsBox Wed 03-Oct-12 18:22:31

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Sirzy Wed 03-Oct-12 18:27:25

"rudie toodie" here. I haven't come across many people scared for life by parents/grandparents comments about the nakedness

puddock Wed 03-Oct-12 22:10:34

Wow, seems like everyone else loves it, I'm clearly BU. I will at least hold my hands up to overthinkage grin. I never imagined my kids would be scarred hmm, or turned into crazed streakers by it, it just makes me cringe.
Lots of the versions some of you have mentioned sound joyful and fab - naked babies all over the place, nudie-nude dances - it's the "rude" bit that gets me perhaps. She doesn't say it in a comical giggly way, she says it like she's really embarrassed and they should be too. But yes, I'm sure BFLIWT is right and it won't affect their views of their bodies, I probably pick up on it way more than they do.

Yuck at 'sexy'.

WipsGlitter Wed 03-Oct-12 22:14:46

I we sing "I can see a willy wonka, willy wonka, willy wonka". And call it being a nudie mc nudestrel. .

Bingdweller Wed 03-Oct-12 22:20:27

It's the willy-foo foo dance in our gaffe. Usually demonstrated by bum wiggling and howls of laughter.

I have impressed upon them that it is not an appropriate show for other users of the local swimming pool......

We say it in our house znd nit bothered about DD running round nekkid! grin however, my MIL has issues with nakedness and if she is with DD when she is naked she says 'oh you must put some clothes on, nice little girls don't run around with no clothes on...' hmm
But then I've never seen PILS in anything less that full clobber. I on the other hand spend half my life in my dressing gown (slob...)

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks Wed 03-Oct-12 22:23:13

Rudey Dudey is funny. It makes DS giggle.

colleysmill Wed 03-Oct-12 22:25:04

I have heard nudie rudie before - here its nudie pudie!
