DancesWithSockPuppets Tue 26-Jun-12 20:47:20

I can't be the only one, surely?

getagoldtoof Tue 26-Jun-12 20:50:06

Depends - how old is your baby, and is s/he on solids?

snaplockslags Tue 26-Jun-12 20:50:23

yadbu sorry grin

getagoldtoof Tue 26-Jun-12 20:51:16

Bf farts smell like caramel. When my boy has been scoffing eggs etc though, I'd avoid his general bottom area as a rule!

Trioofprinces Tue 26-Jun-12 20:52:34

YAB a bit weird tbh.

Sparks1 Tue 26-Jun-12 20:52:52

See if you think the same come toddlerhood!

Coconutty Tue 26-Jun-12 20:53:29

UABU and are a total weirdo. Are the poo troll? grin

Coconutty Tue 26-Jun-12 20:53:41

are you

HecateAdonaea Tue 26-Jun-12 20:53:46

I also used to like the smell of their little milky baby sick

and their pooey nappies.

I think it's programmed into us to not be repulsed by these things when it's our baby (otherwise we'd run off, screaming wink ). Other people's babies nappies smelled so bad it made me chuck. But not mine.

But you probably shouldn't listen to me, because I also mooed like a cow when giving birth, and used to lick their foreheads and do an odd purr/growl/chuckle.

I don't accept that I purr/growl/chuckled. He's clearly lying. But I did lick their foreheads. It was a compulsion.

it's the animal in us all. grin

There you go. Now you're not the freak.

DancesWithSockPuppets Tue 26-Jun-12 20:54:20

He's 6mo, so bottom all over the place at the moment. Still nice though... though if I'm still liking them when he's 16 I will seek professional help. blush

You dirty bugger!

Yabu and very gross grin

PollyLove Tue 26-Jun-12 21:06:33

YANBU, I love my babies morning breath. I could literally stick my nose in her mouth, DP says I'm gross though sad

ErikNorseman Tue 26-Jun-12 21:06:42

YABU! Gross. However ds's breath used to smell gorgeous blush

Cloudbase Tue 26-Jun-12 21:16:50

When DD and DS were teeny newborns , I wanted to lick them. Just like they were little wolf cubs...blush

popmasterdefeatsme Tue 26-Jun-12 22:22:15

Not in my opinion anyway. I am sooo glad I'm not alone. I LOVE the smell of everything about my babies. Particularly their nappies (especially when breast fed). <feels glad she can post about this - DH and sister are appalled>

Polly, I smell my baby's breath everymorning too... Cloud, I lick and smell them all the time too.

Should I really be a member of the wolf family?

(I'd like to add that by about 1 year old the delightful smell thing for me went and I struggle to maintain a smile whilst dealing with DD's poos in potties they smell so yuk but I still smell her head though)

ceeveebee Tue 26-Jun-12 22:26:00

When I started weaning my DDs poo smelt of raspberries (her favourite), lovely!

MildredIsMyAlterEgo Tue 26-Jun-12 22:30:47

DS is 19mo, I still quite like the smell of his farts grin. His nappies, otoh are incredibly smelly (and not in a nice way).

CharlotteLucas Tue 26-Jun-12 22:31:39

I licked my newborn the second he came out. Actually, three months on I still lick him quite a bit... Hear me roar etc.

MrsCornish Tue 26-Jun-12 22:32:44

love every smell that comes off them til they're about 3. when i walk past strangers with babies it's all i can do not to ask for a sniff.

rainydaysarebad Tue 26-Jun-12 22:34:27

Yanbu. My ds's poo smells sweet and sweeter when he's had banana purée the day before! My husband thinks I'm mad, but I keep telling him his poo smells gorgeous!! I also love that sweaty cheesy smell inberween his toes!! He's only 5 months, so I know I won't be saying the same in a few years time!

MissBetsyTrotwood Tue 26-Jun-12 22:34:38

YANBU at all. I love the smell of my DSs' farts. But nobody else's!

Wtaf at baby licking?

FutTheShuckUp Tue 26-Jun-12 22:37:31

You licked your baby after it had just come out of you??????

somedayma Tue 26-Jun-12 22:38:40

you are all disgusting

DesperatelySeekingPomBears Tue 26-Jun-12 22:40:36

rainy Thank god it's not just me that compulsively sniffs my baby's feet. He thinks it's hilarious but I just can't help it. It's like grown up sweaty feet but nice...

VegansTasteBetter Tue 26-Jun-12 22:43:13

ds's farts stink to high heaven. I am mortiied when I'm out an about that people will blame him (4 months old breast milk fed). That said I have had the odd overwhelming urge to lick him occasionaly. Have avoided it though as it seemed "wrong". Quick poll how many of us have actually engage in baby licking?

VegansTasteBetter Tue 26-Jun-12 22:43:29

*blame me

BonnieBumble Tue 26-Jun-12 22:45:18

I do too and he is 2 years old now. I also love the smell of his morning wee soaked nappy. Realise that I'm beginning to sound quite scary...

PollyLove Tue 26-Jun-12 22:45:40

So glad I'm not the only strange one! Adult smells on a baby are just lovely, I draw the line at her nappies though they properly stink envy

FreudianSlipper Tue 26-Jun-12 22:52:44

i love the smell of ds farts, poo and his breath and just his smell. its a little sweet and still smells milky he is 4 now (not sure i will for much longer)

AnyFucker Tue 26-Jun-12 22:55:37

I suppose it's better than enjoying the smell of your own

yanbu grin

MildredIsMyAlterEgo Tue 26-Jun-12 22:55:52

Ooh Bonnie I'm with you on the morning nappy grin

MissBetsyTrotwood Tue 26-Jun-12 22:56:27

Quite like the smell of my own too actually.

I'm off to purge myself or something now. grin

SoleSource Tue 26-Jun-12 22:57:59

That is disgusting! I love the smell of my own farts though smile

Agree about farts and sweet milky breath, until they are about 6 months old. It is all down hill from there.

On the other hand, I simply adore the smell of my horse's breath when she is out at grass for the summer, but this is probably the wrong thread for that comment.

AnyFucker Tue 26-Jun-12 22:58:52

agghh grin

Ds1 didn't smell of owt. But ds2 smelt like he was rotten inside till he was weaned. With were ebf and eliminating things from my diet did nothing.

CharlotteLucas Tue 26-Jun-12 23:07:13

Nothing weird about licking your baby as soon as it's born! It wasn't something I planned, it was pure instinct, mammalian stuff grin.

On the other hand, you fart enthusiasts are odd...

y y to gorgeous smelly babies grin.Mine is 6 months and is still yum, toddler on the other hand is witty(ish) and gorgeous but doesn't smell so good.
Exit, I love the smell of the stables (after mucking out) it's like coming home (not that my home smells like a stables much)

StuntGirl Wed 27-Jun-12 00:54:37

Everything on this thread has made me go confused

You weird buggers!

Maryz Wed 27-Jun-12 01:03:28

I quite like my farts blush

jaggythistle Fri 29-Jun-12 18:37:40

I've got 10 week old DS2 in the sling right now and his wee breath is so sweet <sniffs>

His poo is quite nice, but I fear this is in direct comparison to his big brother's toddler poo shock

shuffleballchange Fri 29-Jun-12 18:53:02

Lovely, baby morning breath is so lovely too, not so great at 7 though! Just the general scent of my two boys fills me with joy, not always fragrant but lovely all the same

CrustyBurd Fri 29-Jun-12 18:57:28

I like the smell of my babies poos when they were just on bm before weaning. When the youngest is unwell he'll refuse food and just have bf's and I like the smell of his poos again.

Wrt farts, once weaned as babies and toddler both my boys farts would smell absolutely identical to mine no matter what.

Some0ne Fri 29-Jun-12 20:17:56

I love the smell of DS's wee. And his milky breath. He's 4 months so is due to be pleasantly fragrant for a while yet.

I don't like his farts though.

Bizarrely I don't like DD's smell. She's 2, and her scent makes me irritated and cranky. Bad mammy : (

I'd rather smell a horse than either of my children though blush

Cuddler Sat 30-Jun-12 10:30:54

breastfed babies nappies smell nice, like apricots.I also like the smell of baby sick.

aziraphale Sun 01-Jul-12 21:05:37

Yanbu. I miss my ds poo smell terribly. Lovely little milky nappies.

aziraphale Sun 01-Jul-12 21:06:55

I used to love licking and kissing his lovely chubby cheeks too.

peachcake Fri 13-Jul-12 21:12:39

Love all my kids cheesy feet, especially my youngest daughters and sniffing the inside of her canvas pumps! Yummm!!!

Beachcombergirl Wed 20-Feb-13 22:00:20

Thought I'd bring this thread back. I love it too. My lovely smelly baby

NopeStillNothing Wed 20-Feb-13 22:12:47

I'm disgusted and appalled at the lot of you.

PessaryPam Wed 20-Feb-13 22:17:33

When motherly love goes wrong......

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen Wed 20-Feb-13 23:18:44

As long as none of you guys have hulking great teens I'll let you all off the hook you guff loving weirdos

All levels of no.

My ds has his stuffed animal, doggie. When i make ds's bed i'll have good whiff of doggie who has been cuddled and loved since ds was very, very young. grin

SirBoobAlot Wed 20-Feb-13 23:32:41

You are all bloody odd.

Branleuse Wed 20-Feb-13 23:35:02

BlackholesAndRevelations Wed 20-Feb-13 23:42:53

Farts stink, no matter whose they are. I am APPALLED at people saying they like the snell of their 2, or even 4 yos farts!! I have to hold my breath when dealing with either of my beautiful children's crap. Baby breath is a lovely smell, but we're talking brand new, milk fed newborn babies. And as for morning wee??!! <boggles>

I did when they were newborns. Not now.

Mine, however, are pure nasal ambrosia.

RaspberryRuffle Thu 21-Feb-13 01:37:43

OMG! I'm honestly quite shocked, and a bit grossed out and a bit fascinated in the way that I get when watching Embarrassing Bodies. One of my sisters is very gross and loves to fart loudly in front of people so I will have to ask her about this.
licking babies?? liking fart and poo smells? Please nobody bring out a perfume to match ;-)
I'm just waiting for more gross revelations, I have an active imagination...

Dryjuice25 Thu 21-Feb-13 01:41:40

The baby nappies smell quite sweet when exclusively bf though. But once weaned, everything changes and it really becomes proper poo and I just wont be caught sniffing that!

OccamsRaiser Thu 21-Feb-13 02:34:45

My DH used to call our DS the 'peanut pooper' when he was very little (and EBF) as he swore that's what the nappies smelled like. Now that he's older, we still call him Peanut, as a nickname, but only the two of us (and now MN) know why...

Beachcombergirl Thu 21-Feb-13 03:59:15

Yeah, not so much since weaning began to be fair

MercedesKing Thu 21-Feb-13 06:54:49

Not that into the smell, perhaps it is due to the reason that I am still not a real mom. Well, I do believe things would be changed sometime. grin

Dannilion Thu 21-Feb-13 09:28:38

What the actual fuck have I just read confused

MissTapestry Thu 21-Feb-13 13:36:42

I lick DD, especially if she's scratched herself. I also have a good whiff of her nappy when it comes off! I like kissing the sweaty but under her toes too, especially when she curls her toes over my lip grin

You dirty fucking bastards!

FloatyFlo Thu 21-Feb-13 13:51:54

This is rather grim.

Perhaps the oddest thread I've read in a while.

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance Thu 21-Feb-13 13:55:28

YANBU If you like them, you like them.

I used to stare in wonderment at the beautiful colours of my kids' poo when they were first weaning. And if they have breast milk and veg it doesn't smell pooey anyway.

And their beautiful buttery breath - smelled like sunshine should smell to me.

It's different now they're teenagers though....oh yes siree.

Locketjuice Thu 21-Feb-13 13:56:32

Strange ones ....

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance Thu 21-Feb-13 13:59:20

But I do still relish the smell of the tops of their heads, even though the older 2 have to be sitting down for me to reach. grin

honeytea Thu 21-Feb-13 14:05:46

I am so glad I have found some other baby licking mummies! I like to lick ds (9 weeks) and DP thinks I am actaully crazy. If he sees me doing it I get a disaproving "did you just lick the baby again? You shouldn't do that you know" I feel I have to do it in secret.

I felt like DS was just like a puppy when he was first born, we call him valpen which means the puppy in DP's language.

I have wondered about bf baby poo, what would happen if I just drank expressed breastmilk for a day, would my poo smell like bf baby poo?

<crazy lady>

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance Thu 21-Feb-13 15:21:56

Honeytea you didn't lick the puppy, did you......?

midastouch Thu 21-Feb-13 15:26:01

OMG!!! really?? Eeuurrghhh!! This could well be the strangest AIBU ive read!

CitrusyOne Thu 21-Feb-13 15:30:08

DD is 4 months and EBF. My farts smell just like her's- and it's that way round. Mine definitely smell of baby fart. Why is that?

bedmonster Fri 22-Feb-13 11:15:36

I have never in my life heard that people lick their babies! Most unexpected I must say!

BurnThisDiscoDown Fri 22-Feb-13 13:21:32

I lick DS's little forehead, not so much now he's 18 months and wriggly, but I get him when he's all sleepy. blush

honeytea Fri 22-Feb-13 13:37:37

I had never heard of baby licking either, it just feels right.

My babies breath smells like he is rotten inside poor baby, I wonder why that is?

Thundercatz Fri 22-Feb-13 15:16:10

I'm pregnant with my first so can't comment re human baby yet but I love sniffing my cat baby's breath (fishy) and his little stinky feet (like cheesy feet) - they are just so cute!

BubbyBum Fri 22-Feb-13 15:48:22

I recall reading somewhere that it is instinct to kiss your newborn immediately after birth as it somehow enables your body to know what antibodies you need to pass through your breastmilk. Maybe that's where the desire to lick your babies comes from? Just strong maternal instincts?

SarahJinx Fri 22-Feb-13 16:02:45

I lick DS, I come all over all primal and want to eat him up. I also like the smell of his poo, I could probably eat it, it wouldn't bother me a jot. He's 21 months.....

wonderingsoul Fri 22-Feb-13 16:06:14

I like the smell if wet nappies... but only my own children. glad I'm not alone.

never heard the licking thing and the poop..nooo that's some how grosser then wee lol.

I have a theory that it stems back from caveman/monkey. genes. you like it as your child and helps bonding. .. or something along those lines.

when ds2 was born the first week. he was in scuba and couldn't be washed. took him home and couldn't stop smelling and kissing his full of hair head.. till I realised he had pooped him self in delivery..hadn'tb been bathed that I was just kissing poo...

so after a good bath he still smelt like new baby though.

they should really bottle that smell.

CrazyOldCatLady Fri 22-Feb-13 16:56:44

Aw, I posted on this when DS was 4 months and I loved the smell of his wee. 8 months later he's a strapping one year old and I still like it blush

I also love when the smaller, daintier of our cats gets smelly paws. Cat sweat smells lovely. Bizarrely I once dreamed that I ate all of her paws (because they're bright pristine white and quite obviously made of marshmallow); luckily they grew back so it wasn't a problem.

honeytea Fri 22-Feb-13 19:03:39

I used to love the smell of all newborn babies but since having my own I realise that newborn babies smell like period and now I don't like the smell of other babies so much.

merlincat Fri 22-Feb-13 19:14:42

I've just asked my 15 yr old Ds if I could give him an experimental lick and he offered to punch me in the face. I suspect that the moment may have passed.

RiffyWammal Fri 22-Feb-13 19:18:34

Oh yes, everything about my own babies was delectable and delicious; breast milk poo, farts, morning nappies (pineapple?), their lovely stinky heads and feet, their milky sweet breath...aah I wish they were little again just for a little while, so I could drink in their lovely smells one more time. Now they are pretty much grown men I don't enjoy their smells at all!

chubbymomie2012 Fri 22-Feb-13 19:20:44

Are you a nurse??? I love the smell of my babies poo! I get such a thrill when they poo. It means everything is working properly. My Dp says its cos I'm a nurse. Lol.

LentilAsAnything Fri 22-Feb-13 19:28:25

My toddler smells utterly delicious, I could eat him. I have to make do with sniffing him. The inside of his ears is particularly lush. Yum. I nuzzle in and inhale with a hearty sniff until my lungs are full. Scrumptious.

BubaMarra Fri 22-Feb-13 19:30:20

I love everything about my babies.
I still check every poo of my younger child (15m). If it smells normal, everything is working properly. If it's not, there's something going on.
The same goes for their breath. If it's not neutral, or buttery as someone upthread mentioned, but strange, I know a virus is about to kick in. And it actually never fails.

Sprite21 Fri 22-Feb-13 19:50:53

I have to agree on the wet morning nappy (smells a bit like butter popcorn), morning breath, and toes. All delicious.
Her poo often makes me wretch now though, and farts just smell like poo.
I have never licked her, though tempted...

Ameybee Fri 22-Feb-13 19:57:35

Ha ha... Hmm would love to say I don't.... But I so do! I also love the smell of the top of DS' head, I rub his hair with my nose! grin X

DyeInTheEar Fri 22-Feb-13 20:08:40

DS3 is EBF and his nappies don't smell bad at all and are not that dissimilar to his burps - sort of sweet and chocolaty and totally lovely. Though DH says his nappies just smell of baby shit grin and claims to not know what I'm talking about.

Strangely though the farts are not nearly as pleasant.

I've never been tempted to lick any of mine but I can smell when they are about to come down with something.

0blio Fri 22-Feb-13 20:17:13

I never licked my babies, but loved smelling them. Miriam Stoppard admitted in her baby book that she wanted to lick hers when they were newborn. It must be an instinctive thing.

My DDs always smelled lovely but for some reason, DS (BF) smelled of vinegar and I wasn't the only one to notice it.
