To say bloody hell what's happened to Judy Finnegan???

Age not being kind...

Age has been very very cruel to poor Judy, I have to agree!

Bless her smile

CockyPants Thu 24-May-12 12:22:14

What's happened to her face FFS?

I have just started a thread wondering if RM has had some work done? grin

MissFaversham Thu 24-May-12 12:22:39

No age has not been kind to Judy, I actually admire her to have not succumbed to plastic surgery etc.

TheQueenOfSheba Thu 24-May-12 12:23:44

Does anybody have a link?

She's on This Morning now Sheba.

manicbmc Thu 24-May-12 12:24:49

Good for her. She's got a bit old looking but so what? She doesn't have a load of stylists and make up artists around her.

She just looks like a person. Pity her husband will always be an embarrassing arse though.

TheQueenOfSheba Thu 24-May-12 12:25:11

I'm not in the UK. Haven't seen Judy for years, so wondering what she looks like now.

I think her eye make up was a bit heavy which didn't help. I was too busy trying to work out what was going on with RM.

BrianCoxhasSmellySox Thu 24-May-12 12:25:54

hmm

I'd rather see a natural woman than a woman her age who is botoxed up to the last brain cell.

It's age, it happens. Some are lucky and are blessed with a perfect complexion. Others are not, I think there are more of the latter than the former.

FoofyShmooffer Thu 24-May-12 12:27:56

She's aged. It comes to us all.

Add to that how ill she's been with her nerves.

happystory Thu 24-May-12 12:29:34

Oh leave her alone

ripsishere Thu 24-May-12 12:29:39

I love Judy. She needs a medal for tolerating 'how are your periods Madeley for so long.
They do seem to be a properly together couple who enjoy each others company. Maybe he is different at home.

Tokamak Thu 24-May-12 12:39:28

Nice to see a woman on TV who's aged naturally and has been allowed by the twats in charge to stay in front of the camera. Look at what's happened to some of the others who've had the temerity to get older.

Good on her and long may she continue.

pictish Thu 24-May-12 12:45:05

Yes indeed...how very dare she grow old?

helloclitty Thu 24-May-12 12:54:34

I have seen them both in real life a few times last time around a year ago. In real life they both look great. I've not seen this morning today but unless something drastic has happened in the last year YABU.

Alameda Thu 24-May-12 12:56:30

I do not forgive Judy for buying the same coat as me one year and being photographed in it everywhere. Her rejection of botox does mitigate that somewhat though.

The make up was plastered on, which made her look old.

aliceinboots Thu 24-May-12 12:58:14

Is it just ageing though? She has got an (ahem) bit of a reputation as "liking" a drink..

geegee888 Thu 24-May-12 12:58:31

Her face is a bit older looking and she hasn't aged partcularly well, but I still envy her her soft manner and gentle voice, which will keep her attractive long after her looks fade.

GeneHuntsMistress Thu 24-May-12 12:59:26

What a bitchy op. No wonder there are no women over 40 on the telly if that is a woman's response sad

aliceinboots Thu 24-May-12 12:59:35

She's also quite a bit older than Dick. Something like 15/20 yrs so she must be about 70, 75?

flapperghasted Thu 24-May-12 13:01:10

Hear hear GeneHuntsMistress (is he as good as I imagine he'd be btw? If you're his mistress and all?)

I honestly think it was just the make up. Sometimes less is more isn't it?

flapperghasted Thu 24-May-12 13:02:19

And she's 64, if you look it up on Wiki (and if my adding up is right!).

I mean how very dare someone look older, take her out and shoot her immediately. hmm OP I expect you are a vision of loveliness at all times.

Frontpaw Thu 24-May-12 13:03:48

What's she done? I quite like her. She's like an aunts. Much nicer that that old man of hers (too smug by far).

GeneHuntsMistress Thu 24-May-12 13:05:15

flapper he's even better <swoon>

aliceinboots Thu 24-May-12 13:07:01

I am clearly superficial. Would rather look like Joannie Collins than Jude when I hit 70.

ICutMyFootOnOccamsRazor Thu 24-May-12 13:07:18

Wow poor lady. How very dare she look her age?

It's bloody sad that the makeup artists are so unused to doing women over 45 for telly that they get it badly wrong.

flapperghasted Thu 24-May-12 13:09:01

Am jealous GHM. Flouncing off to do some work sulk!

flapperghasted Thu 24-May-12 13:10:27

I'd rather look like Jude. Give me an honest face, as nature intended it rather than a ghastly, over-made up trollopy one! (I'm channeling my grandma with that sentence...she was more Jude than Joan too).

aliceinboots Thu 24-May-12 13:10:35

Twiggy always looks ok on This Morning, ditto other female stars of a certain age. I'm not sure the make-up artist is purely to blame.
Judy seemed to look great all through the 1980's and some of the 90's then almost overnight she aged 20 yrs. Weird...

I think she looks great for 64.

What's depressing is that we never see 'allowed to age' older women on TV so therefore when I see her I think 'Gosh, she looks old' and that's because she is old and that's what older women look like now.

When I was a wee lass women of 64 looked much older than her - entire beige wardrobe, no make-up, entirely white hair.

Our expectation of retaining youth now are ridiculous. We're all going to get old, look old and then die.

ConferencePear Thu 24-May-12 13:17:06

"Judy seemed to look great all through the 1980's and some of the 90's then almost overnight she aged 20 yrs. Weird..."
This seems to happen quite suddenly to some post-menopausal women. Let's hope it doesn't happen to those who criticise.
Can't we concentrate on how good she is or isn't at her job ?

Acumenoop Thu 24-May-12 13:21:52

Hahahah

"Judy seemed to look great all through the 1980's and some of the 90's then almost overnight she aged 20 yrs. Weird..."

I hate to break it to you, but 1992 was 20 years ago.

aliceinboots Thu 24-May-12 13:23:58

I know it was and it appeared to be one day in 1992 she aged 20 years. She looked about 60 then.

treefumaster Thu 24-May-12 13:28:00

it's called ageing and it's coming to a face near you soon unless you are a silly mare like Joan Collins and have lots of surgery and say you haven't

GoPoldark Thu 24-May-12 13:32:47

It's a rare condition known as Madeley Strain.

Creates terrible lines of suffering, especially around the eyes and mouth (all that smiling through adversity) and in the hands (all that sitting on them to avoid SMACKING him around the chops)

aliceinboots Thu 24-May-12 13:36:28

Well on a positive note, she looked like she might have lost some weight.

CockyPants Thu 24-May-12 14:06:26

To those saying I'm bitching I'm against Botox etc, and never wear make up cos my life does not revolve what I look like.
Re Judy, I was shocked at how unwell she looks, and how puffy her face is. I don't give a crap if she's got wrinkles, that's normal!

TheQueenOfSheba Thu 24-May-12 14:10:22

I think the puffiness is due to too much alcohol. Still, she's enjoying her life (I assume), so good on her.

On a separate note, although I applaud anyone growing old 'gracefully', it also pisses me off when people get slated for having Botox, surgery, etc. Why the bloody hell shouldn't they have Botox, surgery, etc. if they want to?

janelikesjam Thu 24-May-12 14:12:10

Two options in my book.

1. She is not looking after herself - too much alcohol, food, stress, etc OP may be worried about this aspect.

OR

2. Thats just how she ages naturally - not all women age like Michelle Pfeifer!!!

Either way, I agree with geegee "her soft manner and gentle voice, which will keep her attractive long after her looks fade". And in real life, as Hello says, she may look alot better, "vibrancy" doesn't always photograph well.

Nancy66 Thu 24-May-12 14:14:40

I think she looks perfectly acceptable for her age.

Fuck would you really want to be dieting and working out in your 60s? I know I wouldn't...

I'm surprised their useless drink driver daughter wasn't tagging along with them, she looks like a younger RM in a blonde wig. Judy was a looker in her day.

Dropdeadfred Thu 24-May-12 14:25:09

Caught on a bad day?

Ahh leave her alone...I still love her for accidently getting her baps out on TV. That's something I would end up doing.

Hulababy Thu 24-May-12 14:37:00

Poor woman. She is getting older - so what?

And then we complain why TV companies seem to sack women as soon as they start to get a bit older hmm

Racers Thu 24-May-12 14:38:18

Celeb photos not even my thing but for some reason I clicked on dropdeadfred's link and my computer went haywire opening up hundreds of IE windows. Hope it will be ok! :-o. Anyone else have that happen?

She is married to RM, nuff said lol

SpeckleDust Thu 24-May-12 14:41:40

She's not that old aliceinboots. She was born in 1948 which makes her 64.

Didn't see her on tv today but good for her not to feel like she has to bow to the pressure to look the same as everyone else on tv (young and a bit plastic-looking).

Dropdeadfred Thu 24-May-12 14:43:57

Oooh sorry!!! Was just a googled image of her..nothing sinister!!

Baconsarnie Thu 24-May-12 14:44:17

I think she's lovely, leave her alone.

janelikesjam Thu 24-May-12 14:44:30

Just actually watched. Thought she looked OK, bit tired-looking somehow, perhaps you would expect someone who had a hard life, but thats about all.

Vagaceratops Thu 24-May-12 14:45:24

Being married to RM must be bloody exhausting.

He just seems so chipper all the time.

Dropdeadfred Thu 24-May-12 14:46:30

It was this I think she just looks her age actually - neither good or bad

thebody Thu 24-May-12 14:50:28

I absolutely love judy, this morning kept me sane when I was first a Sahm
With a baby in 1989.

They were my friends and I know all about Tom,Dan Jack and Chloe.
Also Denise Richards.

Yes I am sad but leave just alone, don't be a bitch op!!

Racers Thu 24-May-12 14:51:04

Ok good to know! Thanks!

You suit your MN name OP smile

Tokamak Thu 24-May-12 14:57:18

Why the bloody hell shouldn't they have Botox, surgery, etc. if they want to?

No reason they shouldn't.

However, it's becoming the NORM for older women in tv to HAVE to do this in order to keep their jobs. Is there the same pressure on male presenters? No? Why not?

janelikesjam Thu 24-May-12 14:57:52

And still looking glamerous, thoughtful, fun and sensitive - which is the main thing really ...

JustFab Thu 24-May-12 15:24:44

What a spiteful thread.

I for one enjoyed seeing her on TV again.

aliceinboots Thu 24-May-12 15:27:32

I used to like her too on TM back in the day. I'm glad she quit when she did though as her wobbly mouth and shakey hands were making me feel nervous.

Atreegrowsinbrooklyn Thu 24-May-12 15:31:49

Some total bitches on this site. I'd expect the more nasty posters here to all be natural beauties, devoid of stretch marks, spots, lines, wrinkles, with a body fat level of 0%, and ageing gracefully (apart from their ugly personalities).

How would any of the nastier MNers posting here like to have photographs of themselves plastered all over the internet for a bunch of people to mock? Dare you to post your photos here.....Let us see how gorgeous you are............

SamuelWestsMistress Thu 24-May-12 15:44:50

Madeley is an irritating git, but Judy is ok. She's 64 FFS not 24. We'll all be old women one day.

DioneTheDiabolist Thu 24-May-12 15:55:40

Thought her eye make up was a bit aging.
Whatever happened to Denise?

roundtable Thu 24-May-12 16:12:07

Shock, horror a woman ages without the use of surgery...confused

How charming some of you are.

manicbmc Thu 24-May-12 16:25:40

I have no problem with anyone having botox or whatever - I do have a problem with them lying about it.

Pinot Thu 24-May-12 19:08:24

I think she looks fine for a woman of 64 who's been unlucky with her health.

More important to me is why it provokes such a shocked reaction to see a woman on TV not a size 10, not under 35 and not bland, beige and blonde.

It is a sad reflection on how TV skews our view of woman post menopause I think.

And I bet she gives the most amazing cuddles <luffs Judy>

MinnieBar Thu 24-May-12 19:19:58

Whoever mentioned Michelle Pfeifeifeiffer - I'm sure she's openly said somewhere that she's had 'help' - botox at the very least.

I just saw it on the catch up and thought she looked great. I was expecting all sorts but she looked like Judy Finnigan plus the few years since I last saw her.

I'd say the gin is what happened to Judy.
My mum is same age, Judy looks v old for a women her age I would say.

Have you never noticed her shakes?? She has a reputation for serious boozing.....

Pinot Thu 24-May-12 19:25:07

I think the shakes are her nerves.

<luffs Judy still>

MinnieBar Thu 24-May-12 19:25:40

My mum is the same age, and drinks like a fish, and does look better, but then she has had surgery. confused
DH's mum has the shakes but it's some kind of non-serious age-related thing [technical]

PingPongPunani Thu 24-May-12 19:27:41

She is actually quite old though to be fair. Richard is a lot younger than her.

DogEared Thu 24-May-12 19:27:48

Horrible thread. Just goes to show that the media norm is to see tight botoxed faces. Lines are there because of smiles, and we should celebrate them. I do. I look at my wrinkles and I think they're pretty.

PerVagine Thu 24-May-12 19:31:22

She looks fine, she looks like a 64 year old.

There are some seriously screwed views on here. Wind yer necks back in angry

sybilfaulty Thu 24-May-12 19:41:50

Poor Judy. That is one photo when she is pulling a bad face, god knows how many rubbish photos there are of me in existence, let alone press following me when I am popping to the shops or putting the bins out. She is mid s=60s but look fine and dandy most of the time for someone of her age.

RM is about 8 years younger I think and he has worn very well, whereas she has just aged at a natural pace.

They seem to have a happy marriage, don't offend others, love each other and their kids, so I don't have a problem. This morning reminds me of University- hours wasted - and she must have been around my age now back then. Perhaps I'll look like that in 2035.

JustFab Thu 24-May-12 20:11:33

All you who have been bitchy, do you feel better for it?

bibbitybobbitybunny Thu 24-May-12 20:14:31

Oh can someone summarise who was being a stupid ageist arse on this thread? Time to update my spreadsheet.

Dropdeadfred Thu 24-May-12 20:27:51

Me for posting a pic even though I did say I didn't think she looked awful just caught in a bad day

Nancy66 Thu 24-May-12 21:55:53

You won't find many people who have worked for JF at various stages in her career who have anything other than praise for her.

A former producer is a good friend of mine, says she was down-to-earth, totally un-starry, nice to all the crew, remembered birthdays, happy to have a night out with the underlings and buy the drinks.

Kennyp Thu 24-May-12 22:01:12

Michelle pfeiffer was on ellen with johnny depp. She looked very taut. Very very ery
Joan collins looks amizing for 342 or hiwever old she is.

Am very annoyed that madeley is on radio 2 sunday mornings until the end of bloody august though.

Couldnt give a rats arse about how judy looks.
Perhaos i should have deleted all this.

edam Thu 24-May-12 22:01:48

That's nice to hear, Nancy.

MinnieBar Thu 24-May-12 22:03:29

DH is younger than me (and I'm 40 this year so it suddenly seems like a bigger gap) so I'm on Team Judy.

Actually, me and DH have exactly the same age gap as Gwynnie and Chris, just without the money.

Or the talent.
Or the macrobiotic diets.
Or the level of attractiveness.

I could go on...

JosephineCD Thu 24-May-12 22:05:18

Has she got whiskers on her chin again?

aliceinboots Thu 24-May-12 22:13:15

Judy has whiskers?
Can't say I noticed that and we have HD telly.

treefumaster Thu 24-May-12 22:18:30

Joan Collins doesn't look amazing for her age. She looks amazing for an almost totally reconstructed woman. She's in her late 70s and that is just not what happens to flesh and bone after almost 80 years on this earth, whatever "beauty regime" and "healthy eating" you want to bang on about to the magazines.

It's no wonder we think JF looks old when she looks normal. I would like to say "oh I'm totally relaxed about cosmetic surgery - each to their own" but actually I think it's insidious and damaging to all of us.

aliceinboots Thu 24-May-12 22:21:18

I wonder if Helen Mirren has had "work". She's about Judy's age isn't she?
I think it's probably ill health, bad nerves and too much booze.
Dick can't help much either.

I don't think I was being bitchy. I thought I was being factual.
Fact my mum has aged a zillion times better than Judy.
Fact Judy is well known for her love of Gin.

VivaLeBeaver Thu 24-May-12 22:50:23

I don't think it is a fact that Judy loves gin. I think rumours about her supposed alcoholism are so widespread its now widely believed to be true. She was accused of being drunk/hung over on TV once and said it was due to meds. She has had/does have health problems.

stressheaderic Thu 24-May-12 22:50:35

I've just watched them on ITVplayer thingy.

Richard is such a gorm isn't he. Utterly cringeworthy. Ah he does still love her enormously though, and I admire that.

She has aged a lot. Is that puffiness normal? My MIL is 64 and hers isn't like that. My aunts are all late 50s and look well, still have defined facial features and no turkey neck.

She really is uncomfortable being on tv isn't she. When the fly was buzzing around and they were all relaxed and laughing, she was clutching her knees and looking rigid. I still loves her though.

zookeeper Thu 24-May-12 22:56:48

She looks like a 64 year old woman - we're so used to seeing pinned up faces on tv that she stands out, that's all. Good on her.

JosephineCD Thu 24-May-12 22:58:37

This is probably why you don't get many older women on TV.

Look at the presenters of strictly come dancing. A 40 year old woman paired with an 84 year old man. Can you imagine the reverse?

She looks her age, and I think she's brilliant for not having all the 'work' that pretty much every other woman in the public eye has. Shock horror! Woman looks her age! Jaysus, we should be celebrating her, not bitching about her.

JosephineCD - good point. Can anyone think of a 40+ year old female currently used as a presenter on an entertainment programme?

LadyBeagleEyes Thu 24-May-12 23:22:36

She just looks her age really, nothing more, nothing less.
Richard is the same age as me, I'm ok for 56, but as I don't ever intend to have any work done or give up the wine, I imagine I'll look pretty much like her in 10 years time.
I'll be fine with that.

JosephineCD Thu 24-May-12 23:24:30

Tess Daly is 43.

Davina MccAll is 44.

You don't get much older than that though.

peanutbutter38 Thu 24-May-12 23:26:03

we have a very warped idea of the aging process these days thanks to the fact that women are no longer allowed to (age, that is!). Plastic surgery, botox, hair dye etc. means that many women stay a certain age for several decades, on the outside at least. Hurray for real women like JF, who isn't afraid to be who she is.

zookeeper Thu 24-May-12 23:26:16

Agree with Ice - we should be celebrating her. Good on her.
I will be horribly disappointed if she starts looking startled and plastic and Vordermany soon

theinets Thu 24-May-12 23:27:43

She is a big drinker. It ages people especially women. Smoker too?

zookeeper Thu 24-May-12 23:28:50

She'll be seventy in just over five years. Perhaps age has aged her .

aquashiv Thu 24-May-12 23:29:26

So she looks like the back end of a boxers arse sometimes dont we all. Anyone of you that have a career in a industry that is sometimes based on ones looks then I would say she has dont ok for her self. Could it perhaps be she is quite a cluely lady and her skills arent based on how tight her skin is round her eyes.

zookeeper Thu 24-May-12 23:30:35

eh?

bibbitybobbitybunny Thu 24-May-12 23:32:17

How do we know she is a "big drinker"?

skybluepearl Thu 24-May-12 23:37:27

Ah shes lovely just the way she is

LadyBeagleEyes Thu 24-May-12 23:38:40

Yeah, what Bibbity said.
Who says she's a big drinker?
If she is, it certainly doesn't show.
It's a bit fucking scary that a well known telly presenter who hasn't succumed to Botox or surgery is slagged off on a mainly women's website for her appearance, And how the fuck do you spell succummed.

lunamoon Thu 24-May-12 23:39:21

She looks like most women of her age, your opinion is skewed by cosmetic surgery.

FashionEaster Thu 24-May-12 23:41:16

My old primary headteacher was reportedly a heavy-drinker. Turned out it was early on-set of Parkinson's.

FashionEaster Thu 24-May-12 23:41:56

We are so used to seeing women botoxed up to the hilt on TV, maybe we've forgotten what natural aging looks like.

SpringHeeledJack Thu 24-May-12 23:42:21

iirc she kept having to take time off Richard and Judy for what sounded like something nasty, including a hysterectomy

it was then that the boozy rumours started

god, but the press are a bunch of cunts sometimes

Nancy66 Thu 24-May-12 23:43:30

I don't think she's an alchie.

The rumours are based on nothing more than the shaking hands. Nobody has ever seen her rolling drunk.

I doubt she'd be able to get up at 6am every day for 12 years if she was hitting the bottle big time.

SpringHeeledJack Thu 24-May-12 23:44:34

tbh if I had to put up with Richard I'd be a bit shaky

i have been known to follow him idly have a look see just to check out what he's up to on the twitter

the man is like Tigger, ffs

LadyBeagleEyes Thu 24-May-12 23:46:53

Well, I've always liked her.
She always came across as professional and very likeable.
I hope her writing is a success.

Um......can't believe I'm reading this on here, leave the woman alone. And I hope all those speculating on the fact she's dared to get older end up with faces like a withered old ring piece when they get to her age, serve you right.

FannyFifer Thu 24-May-12 23:52:04

Jings, Judy on TV, I thought Richard kept her locked in the cellar or something.

SpringHeeledJack Thu 24-May-12 23:52:39

I like her

I sneakily like him as well, tho his Express-stylee politics stink imo

LadyBeagleEyes Thu 24-May-12 23:57:53

They do seem to have a good marriage, don't they? Very supportive and lot's of laughs.
Ok that's only what I see on the tv, but they always look very believable together.

galletti Fri 25-May-12 00:19:27

Alice in Boots - where did you get the FACT about Judy's fondness of gin? If you actually cared, or did some research, you would discover that her problems going back a few years were down to a lot of ill health - not related to drinking, - and if she had the odd glass or even two sometimes, well she wouldn't be alone, would she? You are nasty. And FGS, how about celebrating her career and why she was on This Morning, instead of just bitching about her looks. And no, I'm not related. smile

Devora Fri 25-May-12 01:02:18

Hold the front page: woman gets older shocker hmm

This is a really unpleasant thread. God, women can be such Uncle Toms sometimes.

empirestateofmind Fri 25-May-12 02:04:03

A woman being slated for her looks. By other women.

Horrible thread.

NurseBernard Fri 25-May-12 02:45:31

Awful thread.

I can see that it was meant to be a bit light-hearted / observational, but it's actually quite cruel.

Pochemuchka Fri 25-May-12 04:28:32

I don't think she looks at all bad for her age. Especially as she lives with that twat Madeley.
Only criticism I have is her resemblance to David Emanuel.

HillyWallaby Fri 25-May-12 05:00:28

*I think she looks fine for a woman of 64 who's been unlucky with her health.

More important to me is why it provokes such a shocked reaction to see a woman on TV not a size 10, not under 35 and not bland, beige and blonde.

It is a sad reflection on how TV skews our view of woman post menopause I think.

And I bet she gives the most amazing cuddles <luffs Judy>*

Yes, that. ^ And also what Laurie said on page 1 about how we are rarely allowed to see a female TV presenter ageing naturally, so when we do it's a shock.

I admire her hugely. She is intelligent, successful, warm and real, with a great sense of humour and her younger, rather handsome husband ADORES her.

Back in the day when she was very high profile ont' telly it really was hard to think of a bad word to say about her. She was highly personable and professional, and brilliant at her job. At the top of her game for many, many years. I don't think she needs to give a stuff about a few eye bags now.

empirestateofmind Fri 25-May-12 06:13:06

Good post Hilly

alistron1 Fri 25-May-12 07:36:21

I love judy.

AmberLeaf Fri 25-May-12 07:50:11

I like Judy.

She is about my Mums age, my mum is not in the greatest health [naff all to do with Gin!] and tbh that bad day pic looks a bit like my Mum after a rough sleepless night.

Bad health ages you.

Shame on all the 'judy looks awful' posters.

Pinot Fri 25-May-12 08:14:23

Cheers Hilly.

LeeCoakley Fri 25-May-12 08:21:05

I like her. I always thought we could be friends because we laughed at the same things and I loved her giggling.

MissAnnersley Fri 25-May-12 08:22:54

Totally agree with Hilly. Great post. I think Judy is fab. Who cares what she looks like? Have we really bought in to the idea that televisions should only be populated by perfect specimens of youth?

Bollocks to that.

A bit of wear and tear is normal. A women in the public eye not making herself look ridiculous with botox and plastic surgery should be applauded.

ifancyashandy Fri 25-May-12 08:34:43

Worked with Judy for a number of years back in the day. Saw her slightly tipsy once. At about 11pm at a wrap party. Was more amazed to see her at the party. Most presenters pay lip service to the work the team do. Not R&J.

There is no way you could present TM for 13 years, getting to studio for about 7am, if you were a piss head. Live telly is nerve wracking. Adrenaline makes you shake.

A highly intelligent & warm woman. With 4 great kids & a.successfully marriage & career. Who gives a flying feck what she looks like.

SpringHeeledJack Fri 25-May-12 08:45:41

there's a lot of people saying what a nasty thread, and without a doubt that was the op's intention

but looook at all the 'I luff Judy' posts

there are stacks of 'em

this has warmed the cockles of me heart, it has

Aboutlastnight Fri 25-May-12 08:56:50

I agree with* shandy*

Frontpaw Fri 25-May-12 08:57:22

Why should it matter what she looks like. She's a journalist not a health n beauty guru.

It seems that any woman over 45 falls into either the 'hasn't she let herself go' or the 'Helen Mirren' category.

gettingalifenow Fri 25-May-12 09:05:19

I hate it when tabloid rumours get reprinted again and again and they're not true.

I recall the 'drinks too much' story was firmly quashed as it was revealed she'd had knee surgery that she found it hard to recover from. And yet here we are, several years on and people still say it.

I like her now, I've always liked her. And I like him too.

And I hate to say it to younger posters on here who were nasty - we all get older and there comes a time when you look in the mirror and see that actually, that day has come. And I'm just thankful that I don't get any of the comments which JF seems to be suffering on here.

theressomethingaboutmarie Fri 25-May-12 09:35:53

She doesn't look like a 44 year old at 64? BURN THE WITCH!! i really hoped that a website where feminism is seen as a positive thing would not have insensitive, misogynist (let's just value women only on their looks shall we?) posts like this one. Shall we criticise the looks of say Terry Wogan, John McCrirrick etc or are they okay because we focus on their talent and professionalism instead.

Pinot Fri 25-May-12 09:40:23

I never look at Terry Wogan's face as I'm always trapped in the lure of viewing his cock

<lowers tone of thread>

robotcornysilk Fri 25-May-12 09:46:31

I love Judy too
Don't like Helen Mirren at all though

DumSpiroSpero Fri 25-May-12 09:50:47

What shandy said.

I love this pic.

If I have a career I enjoy, a happy marriage and a relationship like that with my daughter when I'm in my sixties, I'll be well chuffed regardless of what I look like!

aliceinboots Fri 25-May-12 10:10:15

It seems it's alright to bitch about people's appearance if they actually give a shit about looking good, trying to fight off the years and succumb to plastic surgery.
Then and only then it's fine to get stuck into how hideous they look.
So what if Joan Collins, Madonna, Vordeman etc have had "work"?
Look at the TOWIE thread. Young girls (and boys) wanting to look nice and in many cases being called tarty trollops, no doubt by the very same posters who are calling the OP an unsisterly bitch.

porcamiseria Fri 25-May-12 10:23:43

Mean, mean, mean, MEAN! I like Judy

porcamiseria Fri 25-May-12 10:24:25

Judy is lovely. Plus, I actually think she looks good for 64!

CrumpettyTree Fri 25-May-12 10:42:52

Just looked her appearance on This Morning yesterday on Youtube and i think she looks ok.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMgCGopq4NQ

squoosh Fri 25-May-12 11:35:56

I think she looks fine too, awful eyeshadow though.

Philip and Holly are so bloody irritating aren't they?????

hecatetrivia Fri 25-May-12 11:41:38

She looks fine. She is a perfectly normal woman in her 60s.

We've just been conditioned to believe that a woman must look youthful and slender and conform to some idea of 'beauty' or there's something wrong.

Well there's not. We are all going to get wrinkly, saggy, puffy, go grey - perhaps have thinning hair, get liver spots...

That's ageing. We need to stop being afraid of it. Stop seeing it as ugly. It's not.

Aboutlastnight Fri 25-May-12 12:32:35

Helen Mireen hasn't had children and has lived a relatively pampered life. Judy's turned up for work in a competitive stressful industry, done live Tav every day for God knows how many years, had two marriages, four children.

The woman has got stuck into life.

IslaValargeone Fri 25-May-12 12:35:33

Had a look on You tube and was expecting something awful, but I thought she looked lovely.
I think we are so exposed to shiny foreheads and fillers we have forgotten what natural ageing looks like.

squoosh Fri 25-May-12 12:42:31

Helen Mirren has had work done that's why looks younger than she did in the 90's when she was on Prime Suspect.

KatieMiddleton Fri 25-May-12 12:47:35

She looks great. Sat next to the much younger RM who is aging irritatingly well, is not going to help anyone, but I think she looks good. I also get the impression that she really doesn't care much about being a s'leb any more which is really refreshing.

She's had a fantastic career and four children - fantastic achievement.

robotcornysilk Fri 25-May-12 12:47:47

just looked at the youtube clip - Judy looks nice I think, I really like her hair. Philip Schofield is too thin, as is Richard. Skinny men look older in middle age IMO. I want a beefcake like Liam Neeson.
Does everything have to be about Holly's arse though?

treefumaster Fri 25-May-12 13:05:24

So what if Joan Collins, Madonna, Vordeman etc have had "work"?

The so what of it is that then people think it's extraordinary for a 64 year old woman to look 64. And then have the temerity to appear on television.

This whole thread is really horrible and as someone else said, this is women talking about women. I don't actually hear men talk like this particularly either about women or about other men (although AA Gill was a notable recent exception). It's women who have bought into this nonsense and are now busily trying to enforce it by shaming anyone who dares to ignore it.

habbibu Fri 25-May-12 13:16:54

Just read through, and agree with springheeled jack - the I Love Judy posts way outnumber the nasty ones. Judy wins!

Pinot Fri 25-May-12 13:18:06

<launches shun shield again>

KurriKurri Fri 25-May-12 13:18:58

I'm not a big fan of Judy - mainly because of her having made the choice of marrying the uterly appalling Richard 'I go commando and let it all swing free' Madeley.

Apart from that I have no quarrel with her - so she shakes a bit and looks her age - I bet she's crying all the way to the bank. grin

habbibu Fri 25-May-12 13:19:51

Thanks, Pinot!

IslaValargeone Fri 25-May-12 13:22:41

That was information on Richard that I really didn't need to read.

GetTheeToANunnery Fri 25-May-12 13:22:50

OMG
just googled her
is this really her?!

bamboostalks Fri 25-May-12 13:23:11

Judy rocks. Love her. She is a very very nice person in rl. Old age came to her as it does to us all.

aliceinboots Fri 25-May-12 13:25:38

But is 64 really old these days? She looks at least 10 yrs older. No, it's not a crime but it is a bit shocking.
Just saying...

KurriKurri Fri 25-May-12 13:29:31

Well 64 is just a number - some people look young for their age, others look older.

To quote Indiana Jones - 'It's not the years Honey, its the mileage' - and being married to Richard would put about 120,000 on anyone's clock.

aliceinboots Fri 25-May-12 15:33:06

It's the eye bags and the jowls. If she got rid of them she'd look fine. Oh and if she lost some weight of course.
She has always appeared to me to be a lovely woman BTW. Much nicer than Fern Britton and her smugness.
I wonder how old Schofield is...he's in pretty good shape. I read somewhere recently that he only allows himself to eat one meal a day.

HillyWallaby Fri 25-May-12 15:56:28

'It's not the years Honey, its the mileage' - and being married to Richard would put about 120,000 on anyone's clock.

PMSL at that. grin

I love Richard. I know he's a bit like an irritatingly cheerful labrador, but I like him in spite of myself. He has no 'side' - I think what you see is what you get and he seems like a genuinely nice bloke a far as I can tell.

HillyWallaby Fri 25-May-12 15:57:33

And you can lay off Fernie as well cos I love her too. Have no opinion at all about the Hilly Wallaby (strangely) as I have never ever seen her do anything at all.

valiumredhead Fri 25-May-12 16:00:56

Just seen the link - good grief she looks fine! We are kidded into thinking anyone who isn't botoxed and looks 20 is weird! She has awful make up that's it confused

HillyWallaby Fri 25-May-12 16:11:15

I've just looked too. she looks a bit plumper in the face than I remember her, but I think the biggest crime there is the make-up. Too harsh and unflattering.

BonnieBumble Fri 25-May-12 16:12:10

Also just looked at the link and think she looks fine. That's how I will age, I can already see the signs. All the women in my family age like that, we don't have good bone structure.

squoosh Fri 25-May-12 16:14:58

Yeah I don't mind Richard either, I quite like when he comes out with all the cringeingly awful stuff. A lot of people seem to dislike him intensely though. He always seems so in love with Judy and I think they look like they have a really good relationship.

I realise I have probably cursed their marriage now and in a week's time there will be revelations in Heat magazine that he is to be Katie Price's fifth next husband.

Flightty Fri 25-May-12 16:21:01

I hate this sort of thread. what do people get out of being so unflinchingly cruel?

MinnieBar Fri 25-May-12 16:22:31

Love that picture of her and Chloe. Awww.

HillyWallaby Fri 25-May-12 16:27:58

Me too Bonnie. My mum's face has collapsed at 65 and mine's going the same way. God damn those jowls. angry I sometimes catch a glimpse of my own reflection in a shop window and mistake myself for Walter Matthau, so I feel poor old Judy's pain being photographed on what was clearly a bad hair/ no make-up day. (those shots of her leaving a restaurant all dressed in black.) No-one over 45 looks great when they are caught unawares on a bad day, let's be fair. There are plenty of photos out there of her looking very lovely too, you know.

See I dont mind aging but the thought of getting jowls....that bloody frightens the life outta me! Shallow?? God yes but so so honest!

aliceinboots Fri 25-May-12 18:57:22

I don't want jowls either. Wrinkles? Fine. Might start doing those facial exercises that are supposed to help. Aren't they practised by some woman who is about 95 but only looks about 50..? Can't think of her name...

alistron1 Fri 25-May-12 19:07:34

I've got jowls developing. It doesn't bother me a toss. Judy has (a) had a very successful career (b) a happy second marriage (c) a happy family life and (d) is generally well spoken of by people who actually know her.

I do miss Richard and Judy, as some others have said when I had my kids (pre interweb) This Morning was like mumsnet/forums. it was a friendly voice in the background, it made you angry/laugh/cry.

I think Judy should get an OBE or summat. I bloody loves her.

Coconutty Fri 25-May-12 19:10:06

KenDoddsDadsDog Wed 04-Jul-12 18:58:17

He looked like Ken Dodd at the jubilee concert .

theinets Wed 04-Jul-12 22:20:32

It's the drink which has wrecked her looks, nothing else.

elaine7639 Wed 30-Oct-13 21:53:39

This is what a 65 year old female looks like without plastic surgery/botox etc.. Why are we so horrified about the looks of a presenter who has aged naturally and chooses not to take the 'usual' route of artificial enhancement - are we so used to young presenters that an older person seems abnormal?
This is a disturbing and discouraging judgment by other women - also very saddening.
If we all take steps to ward off old age by botox etc we will still all look 'old' - but just in a different way - ie old age will be delineated by a frozen face and no expression. Would you have wanted your grandmother to have looked like that? Guess what - you have to face up to old age and get to grips with wrinkles etc because you will have to relinquish buying in to cosmetic companies' promises of a 'cure' for the signs of old age.
When are you going to face up - 60 plus - 70 - never? Maybe you'll be one of those 80 plus year olds who still haunt the cosmetic counters of the department stores - is that you? I'm guessing they'd still find something for you to buy even at that age and it would still be about 'holding back time'.
Sadly this obsession with youth can never be won. Look at your teenage daughter/niece etc and get real. Stop listening to the vested interests of cosmetic companies who are pandering to your vanity. Is that new release skin cream really that new - is that really going to outdo all the creams you have bought before and so justify more expense?
Of course you don't really believe these promotions but you 'treat' yourself anyway. Inside you don't believe it so the treat is hollow.
But maybe you still cling on to the fact that all the brands you know and love will stop the horror of wrinkles and old age. After all, hardly anyone on tv looks over 60 years old. At least 20 years onwards is blanked out and if it is not shown on the media we can conveniently forget.

Zombie thread!!!

Run for the hills, poor Judy doesn't need this judging!!

Onesleeptillwembley Wed 30-Oct-13 22:17:29

My sis in law is close to someone that knows them pretty well. Apparently RM is a bit of a daft twat in a schoolboy ish way on occasion, but absolutely no harm in him. Actually a loyal well meaning bloke in real life. Apparently far brighter than given credit for, bit vague sometimes and seems rude but isn't. And they adore each other and complement each other perfectly. This sounds like their publicity machine, I know, but I'm not, honestly.

ICameOnTheJitney Wed 30-Oct-13 22:24:22

What Elaine said. Do you imagine Judy is hard enough to take this kind of tearing apart without it hurting?? She is human...she's just not gone down the botox route and this is awful....

FreudiansSlipper Wed 30-Oct-13 22:25:23

she looks like most women do at her age, she is still attractive

are we to compare her to Raquel Welch

Bridgette Bardot looked old for her age from 40 but still very very attractive

WorraLiberty Wed 30-Oct-13 22:29:50

That's pretty in depth 3rd hand information there * Onesleeptillwembley* grin

Why has this thread been resurrected? confused

CleverClod Wed 30-Oct-13 22:36:05

Because she was on The One Shiw tonight and it reminded people of this thread perhaps???

Oh right. But a search would have had to be done surely? Why not start a new thread? Or actually, don't.

Onesleeptillwembley Wed 30-Oct-13 22:38:44

It is, lol, and yes, partly 2nd partly 3rd hand, but we do drink much wine and gossip when we get together. Thankfully her friends are either far more interesting or have more interesting friends, than mine!

anniroc Thu 31-Oct-13 06:32:43

In her defense, I saw her in the flesh about 10 years ago, and she was very pretty. I think she looks better in the flesh (Richard was completely orange).

Retroformica Thu 31-Oct-13 07:07:53

I think she's lovely.

Retroformica Thu 31-Oct-13 07:11:17

'Let's hope it doesn't happen to those who criticise.'

No, actually as a woman past 50. I'm rather hoping that it does.

PatoBanton Thu 31-Oct-13 07:48:36

Some of the most wonderful people I have known have looked surprisingly unattractive.

You can see how lovely judy is however old she might appear.

I don't get the train of thought that makes someone feel it's Ok to start a thread like this.

What an arsehole of a thing to do.

froubylou Thu 31-Oct-13 08:12:39

Am shocked that at thread like this is running on a forum used mainly by women.

I told my 9 yo DD off yesterday for being mean about a public figure on TV and explaining that as women and young girls we are are very vulnerable to peoples opinions on how we look, and that as women we should support other women.

And that if you can't think of anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Well as the thread is running again and we are discussing them I absolutely love Judy and Richard and would love to have them round for tea. I don't care if she looks like a supermodel or Les Dawson in drag, she's lovely and that's the important bit.

ohmymimi Thu 31-Oct-13 09:01:26

Blimey, woman looks her age shocker. How dare she.

daddyorchipsdaddyorchips Thu 31-Oct-13 09:03:27

I haven't met Judy but I've met Richard several times. He's a lovely, polite chap and always, always smells great.

I think Judy looks her age, and pretty good for it. Richard probably looks a bit younger than he is, so when you see them together, the age difference really stands out these days, whereas it didn't circa the This Morning years...

People are only surprised because we are not used to seeing older, natural faces on TV. It is wrong to expect to stay young looking as you age. We need more of this, and we need to stop denying the ageing process.

I think being married to Richard didn't help.

Tailtwister Thu 31-Oct-13 09:31:32

I haven't seen her recently, but hasn't she been off our screens for a while? I always get a bit of a shock when I haven't seen a celebrity for a while but forget it's 10+ years since they've been on the TV. I thought the same when I saw a photo of Harrison Ford recently. He'll always be Indiana Jones in my mind!

Leave her alone.

What a horrible thread. It's bad enough when I hear it from friends. Talking about other women saying things like "great figure shame her face isn't all that" when did women get so vile about each other?

I agree Lighthouse. JF is hardly in the public eye any more courting publicity.

She is even a year older than when this thread started south. Bizarre.

Mumsyblouse Thu 31-Oct-13 10:04:27

She looks a lot like my MIL who also has knee trouble, it stops you moving like a younger person and being in chronic pain takes its toll, also even small amounts of normal exercise are out and it's very easy to put on weight. She looks like a lovely lady who has had more than her fair share of pain and illness to me.

everlong Thu 31-Oct-13 10:06:04

Aw I've always had a soft spot for Judy. This Morning kept me half sane all them years ago when I had my first batch of children.

I think she looks fine considering she is well into her 60s and probably has some health problems. She's had a successful career and is now mostly retired. Why the hell should she try to look younger than she is?

harticus Thu 31-Oct-13 12:53:24

We all age and all of the charmers who slag off older women will look in the mirror one day and wonder what the fuck happened.

It comes to us all.

She looks about the same age as two people I know who are 10 years younger than her! They have both had health issues and weight issues (related to the health) and are both lovely warm people. It's TV - we are so used to the abnormal, that the normal is shocking.

HotCrossPun Thu 31-Oct-13 13:12:28

What a nasty depressing thread. Somebody to linked to this the other day, I think it's very apt here

wowfudge Thu 31-Oct-13 13:35:22

Being married to Richard would age anyone. She deserves a medal. I nearly threw the radio out when he covered for Chris Evans on the Radio 2 breakfast show.

squoosh Thu 31-Oct-13 13:38:27

Pancakeflipper Thu 31-Oct-13 13:41:47

I love Judy. She seems real.

raisah Thu 31-Oct-13 13:43:39

She is 65 & a natural looking one unlike Esther Ranzten, Joan Collins et al. They look so creepy and unnatural, atleast Judy looks like the rest of the population.

FunLovinBunster Thu 31-Oct-13 13:44:54

1. If you read the beginning of this thread you would have seen that OP expressed concern about how unwell she looked.
2. Also that OP says she against Botox and couldn't care less about wrinkles.
Judy is probably a decent enough person, and seems to have a lot of fans.
All the subsequent bitchy and ill informed comments are unnecessary.
She probably has better things to do than read this rubbish.

noddyholder Thu 31-Oct-13 14:16:26

I really like her but haven't seen her on tv in years Have seen her dreadful husband though

EverythingUnderControl Thu 31-Oct-13 14:28:01

Poor Judysad She looks ok. It's a crazy world where we've become so de-sensitised to older people trying to look like they're twenty, that truly aging without all the fillers and implants is considered the shocking thing out of the two paths to take.

Richard always appears to be one of lifes hugely exuberant exhausting types to be around. However I'm always surprised that he's actually rather good on radio and not nearly as annoying as I assume him to beconfused

Yabu. Leave her alone, we will all get older, what is so threadworthy about that?

Greenfircone Tue 26-Nov-13 22:25:25

I like both of them and I don't care what they look like. They remind me of my student days when This Morning was must view telly (if we were up in time).

And if you do a spoonerism of her name, it sounds like Foodie Gin Again.

Which would be a jolly good name for a MNer, what?

HowLongIsTooLong Tue 26-Nov-13 22:31:08

She has definitely had a drink problem, so I´ve been told, and that undoubtedly ages a person? Sad but not a reason to have an extensive thread about it...

Mymumsfurcoat Tue 26-Nov-13 22:37:48

YABU for your bitchy post. We should hold women up, not slag them off. Look at her brilliant career. We should probably also thank her for not succumbing to the botox/face lift routine of so many celebs - makes life a bit easier for us mortals.

I think she looks fine and I much prefer her look to the Botox, facelift, plumped lip brigade.

I think she is fab

Aghhhhhh. ZOMBIE THREAD

bugger, why oh why does the zombie thread alert disappear after a few new posts are posted. It should stay on indefinitely. Grrr!

I couldn't give a shit if this is a Zombie thread or not, it just goes to show it's OTHER women who oppress women more than men ever do. We won't ever be equal until we stop raising the differences ourselves.
