Ularooo! Neighbours memories

Does anyone remember when Lucy sneaked a bit of Ayers Rock home and then a curse befell Ramsay Street? Every time something new happened, she'd wail 'Ularoooo!'

Or wondering what lamingtons were and saying "you dag" to your friends?

My big crush was Paul, even though he only had a couple of facial expressions.

Do you remember Brett who had a pet rat that he was a bit too close to if you ask me. The rat featured in one of Neighbours marvellous wobbly dream sequences, it was crawling over bits of cheese and Brett was calling it's name.

...tumbleweed, I know.

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll Wed 18-Jan-12 13:33:27

Scott and Charlene's wedding has to be the best ever neighbours memory!

I can also remember crying when Kerry died.

And I still don't know what lamingtons are.

CamberwickGreen Wed 18-Jan-12 13:35:25

daphne gave birth with her tights on

and des the bank manager helped smile

Oh and my favourite scene was Home and Away where Bobbie's head appeared out of the fridge to Ailsa. You just don't see that level of storyline these days.

Love retro Aussie soap memories, <settles in and makes self comfy>.

mothmagnet Wed 18-Jan-12 13:38:02

Ah the rat rings a bell. Can't remember Brett though, we are talking eighties now aren't we? That's the only era I know.

I'd forgotten Kerry, she was ace, Harold's daughter and Joe's partner? I think lamingtons turned out to be spongy things with jam

Yep late 80's, very early 90's that's when Neighbours was at it's finest. grin
I loved Des and Daphne, I used to wish they were my parents. do you remember when Granny Helen went on retreat to the Bungle Bungles (sp)? It caused much hilarity amongst me and my friends, we'd never heard of a place with such a 'funny' name. (I grew up in a small town).

CumpyGrunt Wed 18-Jan-12 13:43:31

Brett was one of Cheryl Stark's twins, 90s rather than 80s, i think.

ChickensGoMeh Wed 18-Jan-12 13:45:46

Des killed Daphne. In his desperation to get help, he tripped over the life support cables and unplugged her. I remember it vividly. No one else seemed to have noticed, though.

Sorry am on a roll now, and Cody Willis with her masses of curly hair and very manly voice.
Damn, why is Wikipedia down on the day I fancy immersing myself in past storylines!

redrubyshoes Wed 18-Jan-12 13:46:05

When Henry was knocked unconcious at a party in Neighbours and had to be revived as he wasn't breathing.

<despite the fact you could see his chest moving up and down as he, well, um breathed>

Also can anyway tell me how many children Paul Robinson has got and by how many women?

mothmagnet Wed 18-Jan-12 13:46:28

I think I'm too old for that then.
What was Helen's martial art called? It was really annoying.

Didn't Paul Robinson date both of the Alessi twins? The dirty dog.

CamberwickGreen Wed 18-Jan-12 13:48:40

is paul still married to both the twins

mothmagnet Wed 18-Jan-12 13:48:46

Well it's good wikipedia is down, we can test our memories smile

Cody Willis was in The Slap the other day, there was another actress who played Cody before her too, they were both good.

I loved D&D, she was a stripper wasn't she? It took them bloody ages to get together.

CamberwickGreen Wed 18-Jan-12 13:50:35

karl and susan's billy has done well for himself

he is a doctor in House now

Merrylegs Wed 18-Jan-12 13:56:23

Dis and Diphne. grin

And - obviously- Bouncer's Dream (double grin)

Also, how many times did Madge/Harold die/disappear and come back from the dead?

Used to massively fancy Brad (was it Brad? - he married Natalie Imbrugularooo. Not in real true life, obviously).

ddubsgirl Wed 18-Jan-12 13:57:41

yes daph was a stripper she was also gonna marry shane ramsey smile but ended up with des! lol

tooearlymustdache Wed 18-Jan-12 13:59:03

harold found wandering on the beach wearing a Salvation Army uniform is etched on my memory forever!

pooka Wed 18-Jan-12 14:00:11

And what was it with Helen constantly sodding off to the bungle bungles?

BigBadBear Wed 18-Jan-12 14:00:18

I still watch Neighbours. Does that make me sad?

But how can anyone resist the programme that gave us Plain Jane Superbrain, showed Scott close to death because he'd been pushed off a cliff (by Paul, I think) but had forgotten to hide the rope, and managed to use three different actresses to play one character (Lucy Robinson)?

IKilledIgglePiggle Wed 18-Jan-12 14:02:14

Plane Jane super rain was just a pretty girl with glasses.........just like moi wink

AWimbaWay Wed 18-Jan-12 14:02:21

Plain Jane the super brain who looked exactly the same after as she did pre-makeover as she was never exactly plain to begin with

Mike, Guy Pierce, was always my favourite.

IKilledIgglePiggle Wed 18-Jan-12 14:02:35

Not rain I pad brain brain

AWimbaWay Wed 18-Jan-12 14:03:15

x-post with IgglePiggle grin

perceptionreality Wed 18-Jan-12 14:05:48

Didn't Lucy lose her eyesight and didn't want to say when she got it back because she wanted her dad's girlfriend to stay??

AWimbaWay Wed 18-Jan-12 14:06:09

Anybody find the storyline when they suddenly decided Lolly wasn't Lou's daughter after all odd, did they just decide she was a bit boring?

BrianButterfield Wed 18-Jan-12 14:08:01

Lucy fell in a hole and Bouncer found her!

IKilledIgglePiggle Wed 18-Jan-12 14:08:31

Wasn't there an episode that was just Bouncer dreaming, or did I dream that.

AWimbaWay Wed 18-Jan-12 14:09:22

There are some characters who were in it for ages but I can hardly remember anything about. Todd and Phoebe?

Lemonylemon Wed 18-Jan-12 14:10:08

"And I still don't know what lamingtons are."

Basically, chocolate covered squares of sponge, sometimes then coated with dessicated coconut. They're bloody gorgeous.....

maras2 Wed 18-Jan-12 14:11:40

Daphne's last words (grunts ) 'I love you Clarkie '

IKilledIgglePiggle Wed 18-Jan-12 14:13:07

I had the Neighbours sticker book, it doesn't get sadder than that. I had 13 stickers of Nell Mangle, I couldn't swap em' for love nor money wink

MistyMountainHop Wed 18-Jan-12 14:15:25

omg he was gorgeous! had a poster of him on my wall blush

<shows age>

AWimbaWay Wed 18-Jan-12 14:18:37

A fair few characters here I'd forgotten.

LadyGahGah Wed 18-Jan-12 14:19:20

I know Karl and Susan's billy grin my very small claim to fame.....

AbsofCroissant Wed 18-Jan-12 14:20:38

Apparently the guy who played Harold Bishop was quite rude. Someone I know met him in a bar in Oz and said something about him being chubby, so he said "it's ebcause every time I f*ck your mother she gives me a cake". Though, in retrospect, he may just have been rude because some random 18 yo had called him fat while in a bar.

MistyMountainHop Wed 18-Jan-12 14:21:19

oh and malcolm was fit as fook as well blush

was it him who went out with that debbie girl i think she was called? he was SO out of her league!

HMTheQueen Wed 18-Jan-12 14:23:06

Lamingtons are sponge cake squares, covered in a choclatey icing sauce and then covered in desicated coconut. Sometimes it is two sponges held together with jam and/or cream.

THE most delicious cakey lovely yumminess ever!

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll Wed 18-Jan-12 14:23:07

LadyGahGah, I have one too! My best friend snogged Toadie when she went to Australia!

Apparently, fame is a big turn on for her.

toddlerama Wed 18-Jan-12 14:24:40

I used to collect Neighbours cards and swap them at school. Bouncer was the worst one, we all wanted Daphne.

I loved beautiful, beautiful Billy. Stupid Anne didn't deserve him with her selfish, arty ways.

ChickensGoMeh Wed 18-Jan-12 14:28:11

I wish I knew Billy. In the carnal sense <rubs thighs, leers>

breathedeeply Wed 18-Jan-12 14:28:53

Des did not deliver Daphne's baby - she had it on a picnic (indeed without taking her tights off), but she also gave birth very quickly with only 1 or 2 mild contractions and so Des missed the event. Luckily she was picnicking with Dr Clive the GP, who simply moved the hamper off the picnic blanket and produced a serene 2 month old from under her pinafore. Not a speck of blood or goo. Amazing. When the NCT teacher told us that we could all choose how we gave birth, I asked to do it in the style of Daphne from Neighbours.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Wed 18-Jan-12 14:33:09

Didnt Billy end up in "House"? and Jim Robinson in "NCIS" or "CSI" or something?
Helens martial art was calle Chi Gung! I watched Neighbours from the very beginning. <<old gimmer>>
I cried at Scott and Charlenes wedding, when Daphne died, when Todd died, and then came back to visit phoebe in the mirror, and when Helen karked it! I watched in wonder when Plain Jane was transformed into a beautiful butterfly, and confusion, when Lucy went away and came back a different person!!
Then funnily enough, about 8 years ago, I stopped watching, and havent seen it since!!

katz Wed 18-Jan-12 14:34:41

I love neighbours, been a fan since the max and marie days. Todd and Phoebe, wasn't he run over trying to stop her having an abortion.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Wed 18-Jan-12 14:36:29
LadyGahGah Wed 18-Jan-12 14:37:03

Jesse did indeed end up in House. He dated my housemate!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Wed 18-Jan-12 14:39:37

Yup! Flattened! Splat! grin
I was pregnant at the time, I was in shreds!

ChickensGoMeh Wed 18-Jan-12 14:40:49

Phwoar. That Billy needs some rubbing. Tell me Lady, was he a nice sort of chap? And did you ever see him naked?

AbsofCroissant Wed 18-Jan-12 14:41:24

Jim ended up in Ugly Betty and the OC. Thinking on it now, he was rather HAWT in both

"When the NCT teacher told us that we could all choose how we gave birth, I asked to do it in the style of Daphne from Neighbours."

LadyGahGah Wed 18-Jan-12 14:45:34

Well being gay I probably didn't appreciate him topless on a Sunday morning...was more a "stick the kettle on, there's a love"grin he was a lovely down to earth kinda guy.

thefurryone Wed 18-Jan-12 14:47:24

Billy Kennedy starts taking swimming seriously - best neighbours storyline ever! I was once invited to a party he was throwing but couldn't go sad

I also loved Daphne, I bet I wasn't the only one here who used to copy her two ponytail look.

ChickensGoMeh Wed 18-Jan-12 14:47:43

Christ on a bike, Lady. I've come over all unnecessary <fans self>

Thumbwitch Wed 18-Jan-12 14:48:45

Ahhh lovely reminiscing...

Remember Cassie the sheep? Short for Casserole...

I cried when Stingray died sad
And Kerry, that was so sad. I loved her wedding in the house of butterflies as well.

My DH was at school with Natalie Imbruglia - she was in his brother's year and apparently she wasn't all that interesting at school.

The actress who played Anne in Neighbours does Aussie PlaySchool now.

Superene Wed 18-Jan-12 14:55:22

I used to work for the agent who represented Mike aka Guy Pearce. On his cv there is not one mention of Neighbours. Although it does admit he was in Man From Snowy River. It's like he is ashamed of Neighbours.
Billy was with the same agency, he is not ashamed of Neighbours.

snuffaluffagus Wed 18-Jan-12 14:58:00

It was terrible when Kerry died sad

I loved it when Helen died on the sofa but it took them ages to notice.

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 18-Jan-12 15:00:17

I loved Joe Mangel and Kerry.
Didn't Joe marry again, Melanie, that was it.
She had a crazy laugh.

TeamEdward Wed 18-Jan-12 15:05:20

OMG! Max and Maria! What a blast from the past! Original Ramsays, too.

Max Ramsay
Maria with Helen from 1985

TeamEdward Wed 18-Jan-12 15:07:43

Do you remember Melanie too? I think she married Des, once he'd got over the death of Daphne.

I also recall a character called Sharon - she looked a bit like Liverpudlian pop sensation Sonia, except blonde - but I can't remember who she was.

Mandy2003 Wed 18-Jan-12 15:08:07

I watched Neighbours from the beginning too (another gimmer alert grin). But I stopped when it moved to Channel 5 (can't remember why!)

I have always lusted after Toadie though yum-yum-yum-yum-yum...

WinterIsComing Wed 18-Jan-12 15:08:24

Harold's shattered glasses on the rock.

Julie sticking a knife in the toaster and being killed by it grin

the first episode

Anyone else remember the eighties mini-series "Return to Eden?" That was awesome.

Analise! Remember her? She started out in a relationship with Lou, (about 30 years younger than him) and then the producers wanted to keep her, so they pretended that didn't happen, and she went out with...with...erm....Mark Gottlieb!!! Who had a brother called Stephen, and he was the one who ended up with Phoebe after Todd got killed.
Cody Willis was shot through a Ramsay Street window and died.
Erm,.what else? Remember Clive? And Bertha, his cronky old car? He bequeathed that to Henry Ramsay when he left for no real reason.
Ooh, and also...do you remember connor (bit more recent) the irish lad, who disappeared in mysterious circumstances? He was involved somehow with Carmella the pretend nun, and that whole side of harold's family who died in a light aircraft crash. Toadie was his best mate, and there was some sinsiter reference to connor being buried alive.. but then they must have got new writers because they never mentioned him again.

There are so many bizarre neighbours memories. I could go on all day!!

TeamEdward Wed 18-Jan-12 15:13:29

Cody Willis died?

How did I not know that?

TeamEdward Wed 18-Jan-12 15:14:31

Yes Connor played football, didn't he? He had to return to Ireland for some reason, but never came back.

sunshineoutdoors Wed 18-Jan-12 15:16:24

Phil who had Debbie and Hannah had a wife called something or other (Julie?) and he also had a son called Michael who was evil and tried to make it look like Julie? was going mad. Think it got quite dark for Neighbours. Does anyone remember this and also how the storyline ended?

TeamEdward Wed 18-Jan-12 15:19:58
TeamEdward Wed 18-Jan-12 15:23:43

Phil was a behemoth of mid 90s Neighbours. He was played by Ian Rawlings, who just five years earlier had glowered with raw sexual energy as Sons and Daughters’ bad boy Wayne Hamilton. Well, those five years must have been pretty tough and involved a lot of comfort eating, because by the time Phil arrived in Neighbours with his annoying wife Julie and even more annoying daughters Hannah and Debbie, he looked fat, balding and very cuddly. As already mentioned, Phil’s career took many strange twists and turns, from janitor to CEO to newsagent to romance novelist (Philippa Martinez), garage owner and many more. Phil was genial and amiable and a bit of a comedy character, as evidenced by storylines based around him trying to lose weight in a bacofoil tracksuit.

However, to make his character edgier he was once caught up in a road rage incident that made no sense. Good old Neighbours, and its total lack of sensible character development.

thefurryone Wed 18-Jan-12 15:24:01

Hannah Martin a.k.a Button was once my waitress in a restaurant in London.

Didn't Phil go out with that odd boy who fancied Helen Daniels' Mum and they nearly split up because he was allergic to her perfume?

TeamEdward Wed 18-Jan-12 15:24:02

Who needs wiki?!

TeamEdward Wed 18-Jan-12 15:25:09

Brett Stark:

With a cleft chin of glory and a more intelligent persona than the average Ramsay Street resident (read: geek), Brett was old beyond his years. With naughty twin Dani, the two were like the ying and yang of youth, with boring Brett constantly getting pulled into trouble by his sister. Brett lusted after Libby Kennedy but announced that she kissed like a wet fish, and then had not one but two kind of creepy non-sexual relationships with older women – first Helen Daniels, who he practiced tai chi with, and then the far more attractive Susan Kennedy, who he seemed to spend about a month with in Africa, in one of the soap’s most pointless ever storylines.

thefurryone Wed 18-Jan-12 15:29:22

No it wasn't Brett Stark's mum, that was Cheryl married to Lou, mother of Lolly. They split up after she had an affair with one of her fellow hostages when she was kidnapped in South America.

Maybe it was Todd's Mum, whoever it was they lived in Mrs Mangel's house.

Groovee Wed 18-Jan-12 15:34:52

How many wives did Jim Robinson have? I remember plain Jane, there Hilary Robinson the annoying cousin? Gaby who opened a boutique in Lassiters. Those were the days.

RuleBritannia Wed 18-Jan-12 15:39:50

If no one else has posted about them, lamingtons are Australian cakes. Sponge cakes made in a rectangular tin (about 1.5 inches high), cut into squares and then covered in chocolate and rolled in desiccated coconut. We had an Australian temp at work and she made some to bring in to us all. they were lovely. Therese, are you reading this?

katz Wed 18-Jan-12 15:50:37

Julie didn't die by sticking a knife in a toaster she fell off a roof sleep walking I think, Debbie got the blame for a while. Debbie was anorexic and went o life with rosemary daniels.

The gottliebs were mark Stephen and serendipity.

I loved the house of trouser with Connor, Stu, lance and Joel. Lance was Anne's brother, weren't they twins too and didn't they have an older brother too?

notasgreenasiamcabbagelooking Wed 18-Jan-12 15:52:54

There was a great episode when Jim and someone else (played by Terence Donovan, Jason's dad, can't remember the character's name) accidently took magic mushrooms whilst lost in the Bush.

HappyAsEyeAm Wed 18-Jan-12 15:57:23

Jim (Alan Dale) is in Hollywood now - he was in 24.

Hassled Wed 18-Jan-12 16:04:51

I remember so much of this grin. I started watching probably 1986 - I had DC1 in 1987 and used to down about 6 packets of Fruit Pastilles a day while slacking off University on account of being pregnant and all. Neighbours and Fruit Pastilles go together in my head still.

I remember Kylie's first appearance - Jason/Scott caught her climbing over a wall or something while wearing some rather fetching dungarees. Was she a mechanic - is that right? And did Mike and Plain Jane live happily ever after? I'm guessing they moved to Brisbane, because that seems to be what usually happens.

I do remember the Bush Trip trip. And yes, I'm sure Bouncer had a dream/trip of his own once.

Hassled Wed 18-Jan-12 16:05:44

Alan Dale popped up in the West Wing and Lost - there's very little US TV which doesn't feature Jim Robinson.

LAlady Wed 18-Jan-12 16:13:23

I still think of Mike when I see Guy Pearce - he was at the Golden Globes and my immediate reaction "there's Mike" despite him being nominated for best actor in Mildred Pearce.

As for Scott. For many years I have liked Jason Donovan as a result if of him first appearing in Neighbours!

AbyCat Wed 18-Jan-12 16:16:02

Aww, the memories!! My first crush was Paul Robinson, & I adored him & Gail together - so much so that I wanted to be a big hotshot business woman like Gail when I grew up. I blame Neighbours for the fact that I now work stupid hour days running my own business & only took two weeks maternity leave hmm Why didn't I have a crush on Joe Mangel instead?

Bouncer's dream was excellent telly, you just don't get that these days. And Paul dressed up as a baby I seem to remember while Diphne stripped - did that happen? And why was it that whenever anyone like Scott or Mike or Henry went to the beach, they had to wear the smallest, tightest budgie smugglers ever?
Don't forget Mrs. Mangel & her gnomes either grin

EggyMcEggMcSandwich Wed 18-Jan-12 16:16:10

I sobbed when Jim died - heart attack in the kitchen. The camera panned to oranges rolling across the floor...... Then Annalise's mum ran off with all his money.

I also remember, and was terrified, when Mrs Mangel thought her house was haunted. It was a cat stuck in her chimney!

Sevenfold Wed 18-Jan-12 16:17:41

this has reminded me of sons and daughters, I loved that.
didn't brad have an affair with Lauren (Lou's dd) Be fore he married Beth?
I remember Brad was hot.
he had a sister, who was awful what was her name?
I hated it when Hannah"s cousins disappeared in the plane crash as I kepet expecting them to turn up

BigBadBear Wed 18-Jan-12 16:18:13

misty Malcolm is back in it now smile He lives in London with is wife but is visiting in the hope that his parents will decide that they don't want to separate.

The house of trouser still kind of exists, though Toadie is pretty settled these days what with Sonia and Callum and his job with a big legal firm in Melbourne.

Billy and Anne have had twins. Libby is on extended leave from the school to spend some time with her son who has gone away to gifted and talented school.

Sometimes I think I know more about these people than I do my own friends...

blonderthanred Wed 18-Jan-12 16:21:11

Jim Robinson was in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, it was like seeing an Australian impersonating an American doing a quasi-Swedish accent.

chocolateyclur Wed 18-Jan-12 16:23:49

Skye and Boyd should have stayed together.

I remember far too much of what other people have posted despite never being allowed to watch it at home, on account of my parents thinking all teatime tv was drivel. envy to the lot of you.

Becaroooo Wed 18-Jan-12 16:25:30

Remember when Dr Clive <swoon> saved Jim from choking and performed a tracheotomy on Lucy on the kitchen table when she got stung by a wasp???
He was secretly in love with Daphne (why, clive, why???...)

The day after the episode where Nell Mangle died one of my school mates spray painted "NELL MANGLE LIVES!!!" on the side of the gym in 6 ft high letters!!! grin

mothmagnet Wed 18-Jan-12 16:40:09

Breathedeeply, I'm still laughing about Daphne giving birth to a two month old grin

Wasn't there a nasty Robinson auntie who everyone hated and made snobby comments? I remember Helen's painting smock and Home James, she was a lady of many hobbies.

They all seem so glamorous these days, not a trace of dungarees.

redrubyshoes Wed 18-Jan-12 16:42:45

Are Scott and Charlene still off somewhere being married?

AWimbaWay Wed 18-Jan-12 16:46:19

Nasty Auntie is darked haired one in this pic Can't remember her name though, was it Hilery?

AWimbaWay Wed 18-Jan-12 16:51:58

I was trying to think of all the places Jim has popped up of late, a few mentioned already up thread;

Ugly Betty
The West Wing
The OC

Pretty good going!

mothmagnet Wed 18-Jan-12 16:59:54

Yes I think you're right, Hilary!

that picture is good, lots of people I recognise but can't place, like the girl with the really curly hair.
Melanie went out with Paul too didn't she?

ElephantsAndMiasmas Wed 18-Jan-12 17:07:22

How many affairs has Karl actually had?

The first ones I ever watched seemed to be about Analiese or whatever she was called, she had phenomenal drawn-on eyebrows, and I'm sure her boyfriend became a priest of something. Did she eventually defrock and marry him?

Worst story ever was when Stingray (was it?) died. His grim older brother got the girl instead IIRC. Was that Skye? They were such a sweet couple and had a baybee and everything.

I remember Mark Gottlieb pretended he was French when he first arrived in Ramsey Street. Something to do with wanting to appear to be a genuine French chef? For weeks he spoke in the worst French accent ever heard and started every sentence with the words "errrrrr.... 'ow do you say?"

I liked how whenever a character died the end credits would have the Neighbours theme tune played really slowly on a piano!

Sevenfold Wed 18-Jan-12 17:14:50

do you remember 2 sisters that lived in the madges house, they wern't relations of hers I don't think.

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 18-Jan-12 17:20:23

Toadie's first wife who died on their wedding day, what was her name.
She drowned after a car accident but I don't think they ever recovered her body.

Sevenfold Wed 18-Jan-12 17:21:14

she was very pretty

toddlerama Wed 18-Jan-12 17:24:14

I sometimes get called Charlene because I'm DH is called Scott. It started out as a genuine slip of the tongue by friend's DH and now they always call me Charlene. I love it. It's like I'm a true Ramsey.

Remember when there was beef over the name of the street? A Ramsey had cheated a Robinson in a game of cards back in the olden days to get the land and a Robinson teen (can't remember who) found out through a time capsule diary. And vandalised the street sign repeatedly to "Robinson".

toddlerama Wed 18-Jan-12 17:25:10

Dee and Connor have never had bodies recovered. They are probably awaiting some kind of finding-each-other-in-the-bush-with-amnesia plot a la Harold/Ted.

Gumby Wed 18-Jan-12 17:25:13

What happened to Toadies 1st wife
Dee? I think she was swept to sea

I like Max and his sister Izzy who had a thing for Karl

What happened to Boyd?

toddlerama Wed 18-Jan-12 17:27:31

I liked Boyd and Janae as a couple. I loved that this crazy bogan kept shaming him at uni with random drama. I was really pissed off with him for dumping her. Snob.

PiousPrat Wed 18-Jan-12 17:28:26

Brett lived with the Kennedys for a while and took his pet bird, Gallah with him.

I remember his twin sister Dani, who was diabetic but didn't want anyone to know so she accepted a dare to drink a neat bottle of cordial and was then blue lighted to hospital.

issimma Wed 18-Jan-12 17:29:51

Jim is in EVERYTHING, but he'll always be Jim to me!
At school, we firmly believed that Helen had died in real life on the sofa, so they'd written her death into the script. WTAF?

moth Who did Cody play in The Slap?

mothmagnet Wed 18-Jan-12 17:36:50

I remember Skye, Kerry's blonde baby, but not the adult. Thanks for the reminder of Dani, I think of the cordial episode every time I over-juice my squash smile

Issimma, Cody was the wife of the muslim friend who was disapproving to Rosie when she was drunk.

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 18-Jan-12 17:40:59

Steph was married to Max wasn't she?
And her sister was that Holly who was in SCD>
Steph got breast cancer and all her hair didn't fell out, though she spent the whole time wearing a headscarf where her long blond locks stuck out. There was another sister too.

AWimbaWay Wed 18-Jan-12 17:47:24

This website gives a good low-down on what happened to various characters here

Thinkingof4 Wed 18-Jan-12 18:40:25

What happened to stingray again? Was it cancer??

mothmagnet Wed 18-Jan-12 18:45:38

Wimba, I only recognised Annalise and Des from that site, now I feel old.

Was Dani Minogue also in neighbours at one point?

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 18-Jan-12 18:49:27

I often wondered what happened to Joe Scully, he just disappeared one day for no reason at all, I think he was in the middle of a storyline and it was never explained.
I didn't know he was sacked.

samstown Wed 18-Jan-12 18:51:27

Absofcroissant I have also heard that story about Harold Bishop telling someone 'every time I fuck your mother she gives me a cake', so either it is an urban legend and your friend is lying, or he just says that to everyone!

Loving this thread by the way!

gettingalifenow Wed 18-Jan-12 19:03:58

No, Danii M was in Home and Away.

But Guy Pearce was in both!

And back to Brett, he was Darren's younger brother - the electrician who Libby was with. Few years back (his having been her teenage romance)

mothmagnet Wed 18-Jan-12 19:10:39

Ah thanks gettingalife. I never really got into H&A, I think it may have been on the Other Side...

Another fact! Cody Willis's older sister (?) is Lockie Leonard's mum I think.
I love Lockie Leonard.

CaveMum Wed 18-Jan-12 19:16:09

Didn't Stingray have a heart condition? He hast sat in a chair and died in the street sad

I loved the few episodes when they replaced Libby Kennedy (actress had a collapsed lung I think). They made a pointed effort for everyone to keep shouting saying "Libby" at least every 20s so that we knew who the hell this stranger was!

jenfraggle Wed 18-Jan-12 19:17:32

Joe Scully disappeared quickly because he got done for being a naughty boy if I remember right. I've got a feeling it was to do with drugs or something so he was just dropped rather than written out.

I think Dannii Minogue was in Home & Away.

AWimbaWay Wed 18-Jan-12 19:20:45

Full cast list it's long!

workshy Wed 18-Jan-12 19:21:29

I remember Lucy robinson (the original dark haired child) pretending to be blind and Jason Donovan working it out

and Debbie Robinson being anorexic/bulimic
was she is real life because she was VERY thin?

MissBetsyTrotwood Wed 18-Jan-12 19:31:52

Oh, the bit when Jane took her glasses off and she was beauuuutiful.

I was in hospital for a long time in 1989 and hallucinated Paul Robinson coming to visit me.

hanaka88 Wed 18-Jan-12 19:36:36

I named my child after a gorgeous neighbours character. When I suggested the name to his dad he assumed I had chosen it because of an old classic rock star. I let him think it. He still thinks it grin

shanks313 Wed 18-Jan-12 19:40:15

Jim was in NCIS too for the first 2 seasons.

issimma Wed 18-Jan-12 19:42:50

Didn't the original Lucy also have a brain tumour?
I'm planning on being like Madge when I grow up.

katz Wed 18-Jan-12 19:45:57

i get teased at work that i named my children after neighbours characters and one colleague takes great delight in introducing me to new members of staff as such, although most people's first guess is Scot and Charlene!

TheCrackFox Wed 18-Jan-12 20:01:05

I'm sure Jim was in an episode of Doctor Who and Ugly Betty. He died of a heart attack in both of them just like in neighbours.

WheresTheCat Wed 18-Jan-12 20:04:39

What about Shane - what happened to him? He was Madge's son (I think - or nephew) and had a mullet.

CaveMum Wed 18-Jan-12 20:14:56

According to IMDB, Alan Dale (Jim Robinson) has been in:

The OC
West Wing
The Killing
Burn Notice
Law & Order
Ugly Betty
CSI Miami
The Practise
Plus many more I've not heard of

And of course Neighbours grin

Meglet Wed 18-Jan-12 20:15:20

Didn't Joe Mangles wife Kerry get shot by poachers?

My DSis is travelling in Oz this month. She did a tour of the set, the ramsey street houses are dead small apparently.

hocuspontas Wed 18-Jan-12 20:19:20

What were the names of the family who lived in the Kennedy's house before them? And spookily like them? 3 kids, dark-haired mum....

Also, the first Scott suddenly changed in hospital didn't he? Went from a dark-haired teenager to a blond one.

2nd Lucy wore an outrageous wig for a while. What was that for?

Apologies if these have been covered! I have only 'skimmed', reading only posts with characters I recognise.

hocuspontas Wed 18-Jan-12 20:24:28

Daphne and Rab.C.Nesbitt's wife had the same name (Elaine C Smith, I think) and I was never sure if they were the same person! There were sort of similar looking iirc.

Groovee Wed 18-Jan-12 20:26:56

What were the names of the family who lived in the Kennedy's house before them? And spookily like them? 3 kids, dark-haired mum....

wasn't it Doug Willis and his family (jason donovan's dad)

Hassled Wed 18-Jan-12 20:28:34

Yes, I think Jason Donovan was the Second Scott. And Jane's revelation as a beauty was classic.

Nice photo of early cast

Hassled Wed 18-Jan-12 20:30:42
Garliccheesechips Wed 18-Jan-12 20:33:54

Anyone remember Prisoner?

And really going back a bit

ballroompink Wed 18-Jan-12 20:41:03

I loved Neighbours in the 80s and 90s. One of my first memories is making my mum join in with my re-enactments of scenes from the show. And I had a pair of toy dogs called Des and Daphne.

Yes Doug and Pam Willis lived in the Kennedys' house before them.

I have no idea why but I used to love Phoebe and wanted to name my future child after her. Also Phoebe's SIL Serendipity aka 'Ren' because she was such a 'hippy chick'. Cringe.

chocolateyclur Wed 18-Jan-12 20:42:36

"jim" also died of a heart attack in The OC. Must be bloody good at it by now.

Groovee Wed 18-Jan-12 20:46:27

Gosh Dorothy Burke wasn't she a school teacher? Had her niece and nephew come to live with her

Benito Alessi who took over the houseafter the twins left

jasperJohns Wed 18-Jan-12 20:50:03

I used to love Neighbours as a teen, haven't seen it for aeons.

I remember when I went to Oz, writing home to tell people the Neighbours plots as they were 6 months ahead <saddo>

hocuspontas Wed 18-Jan-12 20:51:23

Thanks! I'd never have remembered their name was Willis.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Wed 18-Jan-12 20:51:47

Didn't bouncer drown in a pool at one point and do for Clive revive him? Or was I dreaming!?
How sad are we?? And me sadder, because I can also remember Sons and Daughters, Prisoner Cell block H, A Country Practice, and The Sullivans!!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Wed 18-Jan-12 20:52:43

I had a teensy weensy crush on Steven the vet from A Country Practice! blush

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 18-Jan-12 20:53:21

I don't watch it any more but it was such a happy little soap wasn't it?
All the British ones deal with ishoos and are so depressing.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Wed 18-Jan-12 20:59:52

Love is very strange,
it can come and go.
It can happen when you are young or old.
When it comes,
It comes from nowhere.
When it comes, it changes your life.
Sons an daughter,
Love and laughter,
Tears of sadness and happiness.....

WheresTheCat Wed 18-Jan-12 21:00:58

Neighbours 1987

Hooray for Paul and Gail!

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 18-Jan-12 21:02:04

Oh I loved A Country Practice grin
Wasn't that the one with the pet wombat in it?

Emo76 Wed 18-Jan-12 21:04:23

I used to be able to play the theme from A Country Practice on the piano!

I have one word to add on Neighbours - LASSITERS!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Wed 18-Jan-12 21:18:01

Was the wombat called Cuddles? hmm

HarrietJones Wed 18-Jan-12 21:35:10

You're all in my era! I stopped watching in early- mid 90s so have no idea who people are now ( except for Carl Kennedy )

Faverolles Wed 18-Jan-12 21:39:38

Any neighbours dr's are experts at everything.
Was it Melanie who had the interesting laugh, and did she end up with Joe Mangel?
I have a vague memory of Brett having a "special" stomach ache <smirk> which meant he had to leave a school play rehearsal (?) bent double.

Does anyone remember The Young Doctors? I think it alternated with Sons and Daughters weekdays.
Saggy I still know that song by heart even now blush

Sevenfold Wed 18-Jan-12 21:47:36

omg I am sad.

howlongwilltheynap Wed 18-Jan-12 21:49:59

And who remembers Mr Mangle??

howlongwilltheynap Wed 18-Jan-12 21:50:18

(trick question, ha ha!)

PiousPrat Wed 18-Jan-12 21:51:23

Willis! That was their name! I have tuned in now and again over the years and the Kennedy house still doesn't look right since Doug Williston knocked down that brick pillar in the middle of the living room.

Mr Mangle? Not sure I do remember him. Was he a bad'un in a similar way to Charlie Cotton (Dots husband in EE) or am I confusing myself?

{blush] howlong I'm obviously making up characters here grin

I loved Terence Donovan's character.

HarrietJones Wed 18-Jan-12 21:54:24

Shortland street the only programme with wobblier sets than Neighbours!

Sevenfold Wed 18-Jan-12 21:55:48

I liked Toby Mangle.
doug willis was horrid.
I remember Shane

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Wed 18-Jan-12 21:58:27

I'd forgotten The Young Doctor!

sevenfold Toby Mangle! God he was a little shit wasn't he?
Saggy I just googled The Young Doctors and listened to the theme tune. T'was all very dramatic for back then!

alemci Wed 18-Jan-12 22:04:34

Mrs Mangle fancied Harrold. do you remember he lodged with her. And also we never saw Len, her husband but she always talked about him.

Why was Max (married to Steph I think) written out? That story line was awful and didn't make any sense even by Neighbours standards

MrsLinks Wed 18-Jan-12 22:12:17

Lou and Andy from little Britain have also been in neighbours. Found it on YouTube somehow (please note I don't look up neighbours clips!)

NotLivingTheDream Wed 18-Jan-12 22:15:44

At our school, there was a song..... Cant for the life of me remember the start but the last few lines were; daphne had a baby, called it little jamie, its better than home and away. blush

Am embarassed to admit to singing it for the last 10 mins trying to recall the start. If someone can enlighten me, I would be able to -- sing the whole song-- sleep easy.

Sevenfold Wed 18-Jan-12 22:18:27

openyerlugholes Wed 18-Jan-12 22:22:51

The most wobbly sets were to be found on Sunset Beach.

Said this on other thread but had a major girl crush on Jane from neighbours when I was a teen. Changed my name to Jane for two months, wore humungous glasses and carried a briefcase to work (was an office junior) to be just like her blush

Sevenfold Wed 18-Jan-12 22:47:27

what ever happened to Jane(the actress)

LugholesTheInvisible Wed 18-Jan-12 22:52:20

Dunno. Must go do a google search on my previous love.

Haven't watched neighbours for years am ashamed to say.

LugholesTheInvisible Wed 18-Jan-12 23:06:58

Oh. My. Goodness.

I think she may now develop a crush on me.

fucking I'm sad
Who remembers Eileen Clarke?

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 18-Jan-12 23:15:04

Actually the wobbliest sets ever were in Crossroads.
I remember Meg Richardson.

DaPrincessBride Wed 18-Jan-12 23:26:58

My first memory is of Neighbours...the shame! Had a Scott and Charlene jumper...Double shame! Went on the guided tour in Melbourne a few years ago and helped the guide when he faltered with names...beyond shame.

Toddlerama - Boyd is a doctor! Summer mentions him every so often.

I can't remember who asked about Phil's (second) wife (he was allergic to her perfume, not her, after a strange storyline) - she was Ruth.

Melanie married Joe Mangel!

It was the Willis family in the Kennedy's house before them - Doug Willis was actually Jason Donovan's dad smile - they left after Cody was killed.

God I need help.

crawls back under rock in shame

DaPrincessBride Wed 18-Jan-12 23:30:15

Does anyone remember a very odd storyline a few years back when a local 'hooligan' was found out to be Jamie Clark, around the same time as the Kennedys found Daphne's will showing he was owed A LOT of money? It never came to anything and he just vanished minus money...

I loved the Alessi family, gutted when they went.

BupcakesandCuntWorms Wed 18-Jan-12 23:37:56

"Phil was a behemoth of mid 90s Neighbours.

Good old Neighbours, and its total lack of sensible character development."

Has had me in stitches. Then TeamEdward's synopsis of Brett, the young fogey.

Who remembers Brad Willis, the blonde surfer bum, brother of Cody? I used to lurrrrrve him.

LugholesTheInvisible Wed 18-Jan-12 23:59:17

Ooooh brad and cody.

Made me want to emigrate.

Still do.

That Mangle lad was a bad sort though. Could never get over the size of Helen's mouth. It was never ending!

Skillbo Thu 19-Jan-12 00:20:14

Stickafork - I remember Eileen.. she went on a cruise and never came back!

So many happy memories reading this thread...

BupcakesandCuntWorms Thu 19-Jan-12 00:23:45

Helen was born to play that flying Dog out of Never Ending Story.

WTAF Thu 19-Jan-12 00:35:36

Darren Stark was the fittest man ever to be on neighbours, with the possible exception of the policeman Mark that just got killed recently. Beautiful Darren <dreams>

I also had the neighbours sticker book. And I still watch it now. So much cheerier than the dreary british soaps. I even still have the neighbours board game in the loft blush

I had the "Charlene & Scott, Daphne & Des, and Madge & Harold" wedding trilogy on video blush and I paid for it, double blush

Mya2403 Thu 19-Jan-12 02:51:55

I love neighbours I used to have a bit of a thing for Connor the sexy irish one.

The Willis family all left the show, apart from Cody who stayed living with one of the neighbours and then when she died it was only her mum's character who came back for the funeral!

She had two brothers (Adam who was a student doctor and had a fake skeleton he used to talk to, and surfer dude Brad) and her sister was Gaby. Think Gaby had her own clothing line at one point?

gettingalifenow Thu 19-Jan-12 06:46:35

I was totally in love with Brad. Scott Michaelson in real life, if I remember.

And totally agree on Darren, bupcakes.

But no one has mentioned Drew <swoons>! I wept buckets when they killed him off.

Anyone else noticed how dangerous it is to live in Ramsey Street? The mortality rate must be the worst on earth....

mothmagnet Thu 19-Jan-12 07:00:08

Stickafork, I'd forgotten Eileen, she was one of the 'characters' designed to make the others look cool. I remember when Clive was trying to reason with her and actually said 'come on Eileen' smile hilarious

Those where are they now sites are good, I hadn't scrolled enough to see all the early characters, sad about Mrs. Mangel.

And Dorothy Burke! I'm sure she was also in one of the others, Prisoner maybe?

Sevenfold Thu 19-Jan-12 07:44:40

Groovee Thu 19-Jan-12 07:49:47

OOh Sharon set fire to the coffee shop didn't she!

scrivette Thu 19-Jan-12 08:06:39

Yea Gabby had a boutique shop called 'Gabrielle'. She gave birth to a son at the same time that Lou Carpenter had a little girl and they were both called Shannon. There were lots of arguments between them as they both 'wanted' the name and Lou's daughter was known by her middle name of Louise, shortened to 'Lolly'. I don't know who the Mum was though, I expect she died!

chocoroo Thu 19-Jan-12 08:17:29

I have come to this thread late but am loving it!

When we went travelling in Australia we went to Neighbour's Night. It was attended by Drew, Harold and Toadie. Toadie felt my ass, Harold was pretty rude and Drew was surrounded by security in case the mad English girls tries to steal him or summat. It was rumoured to be Drew's first night back on the job as he's been barred by the Neighbour's producers for shagging a girl in the toilets. Stephanie Scully was also apparently banned because of drugs.

I bloody love Neighbours.

AWimbaWay Thu 19-Jan-12 08:18:46

StickAForkInMeImDone, I wondered that about Max, weirdest storyline ever, normally if an actor wants out or is fired they just get a new one to play the same character. Although they did writer out Joe Scully in a bizarre fashion too rather than replace him.

chocoroo Thu 19-Jan-12 08:27:47

Didn't Joe Scully do something BAD in real life? I don't remember what though.

I still have The Neighbours Game in the loft somewhere. Genius

scrivette Thu 19-Jan-12 08:28:09

Blond haired Shane was very good looking, he went out with Angel and then died before she had her baby, a girl, who she called Shane.

mothmagnet Thu 19-Jan-12 09:43:52

Shane became much more good looking after Neighbours.

Thumbwitch Thu 19-Jan-12 09:45:17

I agree with that, Moth - he was pretty hot as the rollerblading doc in whatever show it was (was it Casualty?)

DoingHouseworkHonest Thu 19-Jan-12 09:47:11

Oh, I'm loving this thread! I haven't watched Neighbours for absolute YEARS so don't know most of the newer characters, but I used to watch it religiously back in the Scott and Charlene days!
This is what I remember most:
-Scott and Charlene's wedding day and that song they walked down the aisle to, Suddenly by Angry Anderson. aww
- Kerry Mangel who got mistaken for a duck and shot at when on a protest grin
-HUGELY irritating Julie Martin who you just wanted to SLAP. Repeatedly. Didn't she fall to her death at a murder mystery weekend? Or she was pushed. Something like that.

DoingHouseworkHonest Thu 19-Jan-12 09:49:15

This thread has also reminded me of the Neighbours board game that I used to have and had completely forgotten about until now!
I'm going to have to ask my mum if she's still got it next time I see her. Bet she's chucked it. angry

mothmagnet Thu 19-Jan-12 09:49:16

I can't remember what I've seen him in, only that losing the fluffy blonde hair and going serious suddenly made him more desirable, like Plain Jane in reverse.
Even Henry looked better after.

Cody Willis was played by 2 characters wasn't she? The first actress was really annoying.
I loved the episode with Paul and Gail when they realised that they really did love each other. . They had a marriage of convenience at first. Can't remember why they split up though.

LadyBeagleEyes Thu 19-Jan-12 10:01:38

didn't he go a bit mad with hatred for Paul as paul had caused stingrays babys cancer(toxic dump?) and stingray dies after giving bone marrow or something

Thumbwitch Thu 19-Jan-12 10:35:23

ooo now there's interesting - I've just looked Shane Ramsay up, played by Peter O'Brien and discovered that he was in Casualty but not until years later - I'm 99% sure the rollerblading doc he played was in Cardiac Arrest, a show I really liked that had Helen Baxendale in it as well, which was only a few years after he left Neighbours.

silverfrog Thu 19-Jan-12 10:40:30

argh! damn you all! I have been sucked into watching old Neighbours episodes on YouTube blush and grin

will never get the housework done now... so many years to catch up with!

mothmagnet Thu 19-Jan-12 10:44:23

Ooh I think I remember that, Thumbwitch, would never have recalled the title.
I think we've done well remembering anything seeing as it was 25 years ago and we didn't have a wiki to begin with smile

Can't believe Paul had a toxic dump, didn't he used to be likened to JR at the beginning?

issimma Thu 19-Jan-12 11:15:58

silver I stopped watching in the mid-90s and now feel the need to catch up!
The glory days were definitely 1988-1993.

Sevenfold Thu 19-Jan-12 11:26:31

Paul was a bad boy

When Sky and Dylan try to save some animals that had been poisoned in the contaminated Lassiter's Lake, Dylan is poisoned himself. He later discovers that he is now more susceptible to cancer and other ailments. After some help from Paul, Sky and Dylan, and the other residents, manage to bring down Affirmacon, a corporation Paul was originally working with. Affirmacon were planning to buy out Ramsay Street, so they could build a shopping centre on the land. Paul is kidnapped and pushed off a cliff. Sky and Dylan find him and Paul's leg is infected and needs to be amputated. Dylan forges Paul's signature to save his life. Paul is livid, but realises that Dylan had acted within his best interests. Sky and Dylan begin a relationship.

SooticaTheWitchesCat Thu 19-Jan-12 11:28:25

Didn't Paul murder Connor and bury him under the rose bush? Or am I making that up???

Sevenfold Thu 19-Jan-12 11:29:43

why Joe Scully left

seven you seem to be the font of all knowledge with Neighbours. Why did Max leave and why was he given such a crap exit?

Sevenfold Thu 19-Jan-12 11:32:49

no it was thought his mad son did, but connor then sent some presents to Toadie proving he was alive...

mothmagnet Thu 19-Jan-12 11:44:52

No WAY shock Paul had his leg taken off? Did you see him with it folded up behind him?

What a storyline though, more amazing with every sentence.

In the old days, you could tell when a story would reach it's conclusion because it was nearing Friday and they all seemed to end then and a new one would start on Monday grin

Sevenfold Thu 19-Jan-12 11:48:26

sorry I got involved in rl, the Max one was just odd.
he just went mad and cracked up, killed Pauls not mad son by mistake and left to work on an oil rig....

heyannie Thu 19-Jan-12 11:51:15

Oh my gosh, I totally forgot about Drew, what a hunk. I fancied geeky Brett when I was about 9. Darren was also hot.

I'm still hoping Dionne will re-appear after her tragic accident 15 minutes after her wedding day. I refuse to believe she drowned if they didn't find a body.

Debbie Martin was bulimic, not anorexic. Her sister Hannah was a totally annoying idiot, but later appeared in Corrie, didn't she have a fling with Les Battersby? She is really pretty now.

Sevenfold Thu 19-Jan-12 11:54:29

Drew died all of a sudden
I remember being shocked as there was no real build up to it. just all in one episode.

seven didn't Drew die after being thrown off his horse?
Wasn't there an English character in Neighbours many years ago? He had a Dick Van Dyke accent. Or have I got the wrong soap?

silverfrog Thu 19-Jan-12 11:57:50

Eddie Buckingham was British - I think Madge and Harold met him while on holiday, so obviously he 'looked them up' when he came over to Oz...

Thumbwitch Thu 19-Jan-12 11:58:06

BupcakesandCuntWorms Thu 19-Jan-12 12:32:01

How bizarre - does just go to show the shortage of actors in Australia though if they needed to use the same bloke for 2 different characters, however far apart!

issimma Thu 19-Jan-12 12:36:38

WHAT? Hannah was in Corrie? <googles> This thread is stopping any productivity today grin. She was incredibly annoying, but not quite as bad as Debbie.

BigBadBear Thu 19-Jan-12 12:58:19

I recognised Scott Majors from Heartbreak High when he started as Lucas in Neighbours. Now that was a show.

Someone downthread mentioned a shopping centre development storyline from years ago. There's another one going on now. I'm convinced Malcolm Kennedy has something to do with it but nobody cares believes me.

Dahl the galah is still in the show. I still call people galahs if they do something silly. I get strange looks generally in my life

A lot of the people I know think I'm a sensible, responsible, capable kind of person. Then someone mentions that I Sky+ Neighbours and everyone falls about laughing. But they fail to grasp the brilliance of the show.

AWimbaWay Thu 19-Jan-12 13:10:07

Here's Brad now apparently he managed Holly Valance and sued her when she dropped him.

chocoroo Thu 19-Jan-12 13:19:57

I was on the Neighbours tour the day they were filming Drew's death. V exciting even though we could only watch from about a mile away

Does anyone remember what happened to all those random characters like Pepper and Rosie? That's my only Neighbours gap as I was living in London and prioritising going to the pub over watching!

Where was it that Helen Daniels always used to go for weekends and paint?

BupcakesandCuntWorms Thu 19-Jan-12 13:30:19

Eugh. I can't believe I used to fancy Brad. <shudder>

ArielNonBio Thu 19-Jan-12 13:31:48

OK, Brad's not done too badly has he? Could have been worse grin

Who was the guy with the mullet who was in it around the time of Scott and Charlene? The actor's name was Mark, I think, and he was from Tasmania. And I developed a massive crush on him when I was about ten after seeing him in panto.

ArielNonBio Thu 19-Jan-12 13:36:32

Mark Lyttle? Joe Mangel?

BupcakesandCuntWorms Thu 19-Jan-12 13:36:50

You're not thinking of Mike (Guy Pierce) are you, Bint?

silverfrog Thu 19-Jan-12 14:11:33

no mullett, but are you thinking about [ Nick Page? Young artist taken in by Helen after he graffiti'd Erinsborough.

Can't remember what happened to him - he probably ended up burning down Lassiter's as happens whenever they fancy a set redesign

Thinkingof4 Thu 19-Jan-12 14:28:03

Does anyone remember jim's 2nd wife Beverley? There was an episode where she carved a watermelon into a basket and filled it with fruit salad to serve at a family meal. However just as she carried across to the table saying ta-daaaa! the handle broke and it smashed on the floor. 'twas very funny
What a random thing to remember!!

I used to think Skye was soooo cool but she looks fairly ordinary now (she's on a link further back in the thread)

I loved brad too and he's not bad now, but strangely enough not my type at all now. Didnt stingray have a really good looking older brother?

LadyBeagleEyes Thu 19-Jan-12 14:32:18

Poor old Alan Dale.
Having built up a successful Holywood career, we all still remember him as Jim Robinson from Neighbours.

ArielNonBio Thu 19-Jan-12 15:10:37

Remember that advert? I can't remember what it was for....it featured some Aussie bloke on the phone to his mate shouting "Hey mate, you'll never guess who I'm next to. Jim Robinson! Yih! Jim from Neighbours!!" and Alan Dale getting all mardy.

Mi4 Thu 19-Jan-12 15:13:36

LOVING this thread grin

We need a Home and Away one too!

silverfrog - Mark Stevens! That's the one! I got his autograph and went completely daft over him for a bit. grin

Just had a quick google and discovered this:

Mark Stevens - Now a leader at the Abundant Church in Bradford, England shock

Groovee Thu 19-Jan-12 15:30:17

Didn't Cheryl Stark run Chez Chez at one point? And Lou Carpenter had loved Madge for years

Mi4 Thu 19-Jan-12 15:35:02
Mi4 Thu 19-Jan-12 15:35:30

Cheryl Stark had The Widest Hair Do Ever. fact.

Mi4 Thu 19-Jan-12 15:36:35
jenfraggle Thu 19-Jan-12 15:41:31

Nobody seems to have mentioned the lovely Sam Kratz. Possibly one of the most wooden actors ever but lovely to look at.

Brad was ugly though, can't see what anyone ever saw in him

CaveMum Thu 19-Jan-12 15:49:10

Mi4, whilst Cheryl's barnet was no doubt impressive, I recommend you Google "Kirsten Rausing", the richest woman in the UK.

I've met her and the hair is even more impressive in real life!

Ok, this is an obscure story line that only I see to remember. The Gottlieb brother who at first pretended to be french so people would think he was a quality chef... well I clearly remember a story line where he hit his head somehow and as a result of the head injury became ultra religious. So much so that he changed the name of the coffee shop (which he was running at the time) to the Holy Roller. Does anyone remember that...? Was he the same one who was supposed to marry Annalise but became a priest? Did he every hit his head again and come back to his senses?

jenfraggle Thu 19-Jan-12 15:52:20

He was the same one that ditched her at the altar to become a priest. I think he spent the whole of the ceremony up to the point he ran out staring at a crucifix.

Mi4 Thu 19-Jan-12 15:56:31

I recall that Claraballabunting smile

AWimbaWay Thu 19-Jan-12 15:57:10

clarabellabunting, that actor was also in home and away, I think as a teacher.

AWimbaWay Thu 19-Jan-12 15:59:02

Joel Samuels was rather yummy, and still is if google is anything to go by.

There was also a rather attractive bloke who house shared in Toadies house for a while, then I think the actor suddenly changed, but can't find him anywhere.

Yes, he was in H&A too, wasn't he? As was Sam Kratz if I remember right.

AWimbaWay Thu 19-Jan-12 16:00:33

Oh just seen Daniel Macpherson was in The Bill.

I'm so glad I didn't imagine that story line. Thought it sounded a bit far-fetched but then this is Neighbours, we're talking about!

I think Mark Gottlieb ran the coffee shop with Harold, didn't he? And Annalise also worked there. Harold was religious too so was probably also behind the rebranding of the coffee shop. I wonder if it was pre- or post- Harold's hiatus when he was swept from the rock and lost his memory and joined the salvation army...

Have been been reading up on Harold Bishop on Wikipedia and am quite shocked at what he got up to after I stopped watching!

"In 2003, Harold suffers a stroke and his personality changes. He leaves the Salvation Army, becomes a "peeping tom", starts drinking alcohol and he pinches Izzy Hoyland's bottom"

I'm sorry I missed that!

redrosette Thu 19-Jan-12 16:13:00

I love Libby and Drew. They should never have killed him off sad

AWimbaWay Thu 19-Jan-12 16:13:18

Will Griggs, that's who I was thinking of, apparently not replaced but written out quickly and replaced in house by his brother, I obviously wasn't paying attention.

ChickensGoMeh Thu 19-Jan-12 16:25:57

Does anyone else remember all the angst with Libby and Drew? All of the long shots of them gazing sadly in to the distance while a song played that went 'If I had you, I wouldn't neeeeeeed this driiiiink....'.

Rowgtfc72 Thu 19-Jan-12 17:21:38

Ooo Clive the doc. Mmm. Incidentally Im named after Nasty Patricia who was in that other Aussie soap with Wayne (Ian Rawlings) but she then cropped up in neighbours as a mad old lady who kidnapped someone because her kid had died. My dad had a mad crush on her !

alemci Thu 19-Jan-12 17:29:36

Brad looked like a barbie doll and was very plastic. Sam Kratz remember him and Marlene.

Do you remember Bruno Alessi who had the reversed vascetomy and his moany wife Cathy

Becaroooo Thu 19-Jan-12 17:30:04

Back off row He's mine!!!! grin

I adored him.....sigh..........

CervixWithASmile Thu 19-Jan-12 17:32:07

Wasn't there someone called Bronwyn that went out with Henry?

And wasn't Bouncer's replacement owned by Mrs Mangel and called Pembroke?

chocoroo Thu 19-Jan-12 17:53:06

Yes, Bronwyn had a big thick fringe I think and did marry Henry. Was it her sister Catherine that Mal Kennedy has forgotten he is married too or am I confused.

Just watching neighbours now...a good flashback sequence featuring Karl and Susan Kennedy smile

silverfrog Thu 19-Jan-12 17:55:43

Catherine was Sarah's sister, I think - the one (Sarah) that Karl had an affair with.

Bronwen was Sharon's sister, iirc - Sharon went out with Nick for a bit.

chocoroo Thu 19-Jan-12 17:56:04

Bah. Bronwyn is not Catherine's sister. I am clearly confused by about 5 years!

chocoroo Thu 19-Jan-12 17:56:28

Yep Silverfrog, that's right!

silverfrog Thu 19-Jan-12 17:58:10

god, i can't believe I can remember all this shit important detail - I can't even remember what I went up for when I get to the top of the stairs most days!

PuffPants Thu 19-Jan-12 18:05:29

I remember when Sharon was heading out on a date (or trying to impress a guy anyway, can't remember who) and she slathered herself in fake tan, really badly, which turned her patchy and orange and stained all her clothes.

Wonder what happened to her.

perceptionreality Thu 19-Jan-12 18:15:01

Annalise was dating Sam and started seeing Stonefish behind his back. She was caught in a sheet iirc.........

perceptionreality Thu 19-Jan-12 18:16:17

Yeah, Catherine and Sarah looked absolutely nothing alike........although that does happen with siblings.

Sevenfold Thu 19-Jan-12 18:17:30

I linked a pic of Bronwyn earlier she was sister 1

perceptionreality Thu 19-Jan-12 18:19:49

Izzy the sociopath........I forgot about her!

silverfrog Thu 19-Jan-12 18:24:15

Stonefish went out with Cody at some point, didn't he?

and who was the trainee policeman (Luke? - how did he fit in to the street?) whose fault it was that Cody got shot?

scrivette Thu 19-Jan-12 19:16:17

Sevenfold, was it? I barely watched H&A, that episode obviously stuck with me!

I remember Luke! - he was a trainee police officer but at his medical they found out he had cancer. I remember having a bit of a thing for him as he had a lovely face with a sexy mole on his cheek.

I'm not sure how he fitted in but wasn't he one of the randoms living in Number 30? - later the 'house of trouser'.

silverfrog Thu 19-Jan-12 19:50:21

oh yes, he did have cancer, didn't he?

yes, he was just a random - but they usually come up with some completely unrealistic reaosn for the randoms - you know, a brother's-friend's-auntie's-cousin once met their parents, and mentioned Ramsey street etc etc.

Glenn is another one that jsut popped into my mind - wasn't he Jim's illegitimate son? and din't he end up paralysed (or was that Stephen Gottlieb? or both?)

Glenn went out with Gabby, I think.

Thumbwitch Thu 19-Jan-12 21:54:10

Couldn't forget about Izzy if I tried - she (Natalie Bassingthwaite) was one of the judges on Australian X Factor last year - she replaced Natalie Imbruglia. And subjected us to a performance of her latest single at some point during the show.

BerryLellow Thu 19-Jan-12 22:14:40

That family that Susan Kennedy married into, with Zeke and Rachel? I could never work out what was going on with the casting of the older sister Katya.

Don't watch it anymore, but I was a fan from the early days and had the sticker album too. I wanted to be Bronwyn blush

Lovely Luke was the brother of the woman that got together with Phil Martin, whose name escapes me

BerryLellow Thu 19-Jan-12 22:15:08

Oh and I saw Brett Stark on a train in Sydney once

Thumbwitch Thu 19-Jan-12 23:07:02

the Kinski family, Berry? I think the idea was the the children's mother was Tibetan or something like that (goes off to google), and Katya looked most like her.

GreenEyesAndNiceHam Thu 19-Jan-12 23:31:36

I have just snorted and chuckled and giggled my way through this whole thread

And the only contribution I have is that Mike's (Guy Pearce) favourite dish that Daphne used to make him, was Lemon Chicken grin

BupcakesandCuntWorms Thu 19-Jan-12 23:39:10
SaggyOldClothCatPuss Thu 19-Jan-12 23:42:48

Yes, but did we ever ascertain if i was dreaming when I remembered that bouncer nearly drowned in a pool, and clive the vet rescued him? Although now I think about it, didnt the original dog drown and bouncer was the replacement?

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Thu 19-Jan-12 23:43:40

Green, that cant be true, nobody ever eats anything but casserole in Ramsey ST!

BupcakesandCuntWorms Thu 19-Jan-12 23:46:38

It was "lemon chicken caserole"

Daphne used to marinade the chicken inside her tights.

Thumbwitch Thu 19-Jan-12 23:48:39

I was quite keen on Frazer Yeats (aka George Brown) and that whole story line with him and Rosetta Cammeniti kept me watching for a while. It did make me smile that his parents had named their 4 sons after the Beatles...

Juaneeze Thu 19-Jan-12 23:49:48

I still have my Neighbours board game, we used to enjoy making up extravagant storylines involving Mrs Mangle grin

My sister and I used to think that Marlene (Chezza's mum) looked like an owl...I think I shall have to introduce her to this thread smile

GreenEyesAndNiceHam Thu 19-Jan-12 23:51:36

Nu uh, 'Limmin Chick'n' it was, I remember it well…

Probably cos it was fruit. wi' meat

Blew my tiny mind man

BupcakesandCuntWorms Thu 19-Jan-12 23:55:36

Marlene! Cody and some of the other Ramsay St kids wrote a song about her and sang it to her in the Coffee Shop (what was it called?)

The first line went "MARLEEEEENE! She cooks chickpeas and sauce!"

BupcakesandCuntWorms Thu 19-Jan-12 23:57:53

The Coffee Shop was apparently called the Coffee Shop, according to Wikipedia...

Heatherhills Fri 20-Jan-12 00:01:59

Does anyone else remember Clive James cameoing as a postman?

Heatherhills Fri 20-Jan-12 00:03:45

The brad/Beth/Lauren love triangle - I think he should have picked Lauren.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Fri 20-Jan-12 00:04:26

In that board game, the characters, one was "A lebanese belly dancer" wasnt it? confused It has stuck in my mind for decades!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Fri 20-Jan-12 00:05:00

And what about Bouncer?? <<whines>>

Thumbwitch Fri 20-Jan-12 01:29:25

here you go saggy
In short - Bouncer was always Bouncer but he was bought as a replacement for Basil, who drowned. There was some hideous dream sequence where he dreamt of getting married to the next door dog hmm; and when the real Bouncer (same name) died of cancer aged 7, he got loads of tributes from fans all round the world.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Fri 20-Jan-12 01:44:09

<<punches air>> I KNEW a dog got drownded! YAY! grin

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Fri 20-Jan-12 01:44:29

OOPS! blush

HungryHelga Fri 20-Jan-12 02:46:03

"In 2003, Harold suffers a stroke and his personality changes. He leaves the Salvation Army, becomes a "peeping tom", starts drinking alcohol and he pinches Izzy Hoyland's bottom"

There was also a bit where Harold was caught perving through the window at a lingerie party that Sky (his grandaughter) was holding!

sleepywombat Fri 20-Jan-12 03:46:19

I was an addict from 1987 to mid 90s & used to have to video it every thursday when I had my piano lessons!
My favourite was Bronwyn & I used to get my mum to do my hair like hers 'can I have a neighbours ponytail?' (true saddo).
I always wondered whether they drugged toddler Skye (never saw her grown up), because she just sat there looking dopey.
Never liked home and away - neighbours was just so much funnier/feel good.

issimma Fri 20-Jan-12 07:03:10

Someone (an Alessi?) had a cookbook called '101 ways with mince'. Glossing over why the fuck I remember that, I'd quite fancy a copy.

mothmagnet Fri 20-Jan-12 08:14:29

grin to mince cookbook, can there be 101 ways? Also can't believe you remembered lemon chicken, it was their special occasion dish.

Sam Kratz is definitely Julian Assange, when I googled him I did wonder if his grey hair was real. Still nice though.

silverfrog Fri 20-Jan-12 08:23:17

thank you for solving why Luke turned up - randoms are never truly random are they? grin (was it Jen that Phil went out with?)

the Todd/Melissa/Josh/Cody foursome and subsequent swap of partners always amused me. whatever happened to Katie (Todd's sister)?

didn'y Clive the doctor have a sideline as a gorilla-gram? (quite why he would is beyond me, but I seem to recall it)

<saddo alert> I have watched the first few episodes on youtube (I never saw the first ones, started watching in about 1987 I reckon) and apparently after Helen's daughter died, Julie ran away and got stuck in a storm drain, and was blind for a bit - now this is exactly what Lucy did a few years later (isn't that when the first change of actress happened?) - does anyone know why/how this extraordinary coincidence of fate occurred?

BupcakesandCuntWorms Fri 20-Jan-12 09:38:28

"Julie ran away and got stuck in a storm drain, and was blind for a bit"

Only in Neighbours...

leftmymistletoeatthedoor Fri 20-Jan-12 09:58:01

Lynn scully had 3 daughters called Flick, Steph and Michelle. She also had a son who suddenly arrived called Jack who was a professional footballer in the UK but gave it up to go to Erinsborough High instead? Michelle went out with Conor.

I used to fancy Tad (Toadies cousin) who has now scaled the dizzy heights of being in 2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps!

I remember Billy and Anne going on a camping trip and losing their virginity!

Also remember a massive storyline because Dannii got her ear pierced - what a rebel!

silverfrog Fri 20-Jan-12 10:05:16

ah, but Bupcakes - the same extraordinary fate then befell her younger sister some years later... what a coincidence hmm. I believe Bouncer was instrumental in finding Lucy when she was stuck in the storm drain (and possibly Mike was the one to discover that she was faking her blindness)

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Fri 20-Jan-12 10:05:35

grin I have a 101 things to do with mince book! It's called "Mince Matters"!
Of course in Erinsborough, the entire book would be devoted to ways to make a casserole with mince! confused
I remember the gorilla gram! Wasn't that how he made his first appearance?

gettingalifenow Fri 20-Jan-12 10:16:56

Ah yes, Conor. Murdered by one of the Robinson twins -Cameron or Robert. Last seen being carted away on the back of a truck under a tarpaulin. Then his wallet turned up in China months later? It could happen!

silverfrog Fri 20-Jan-12 10:22:55

Saggy - I seem to rememebr he was in a shopping trolley dressed as a gorilla confused

BerryLellow Fri 20-Jan-12 13:41:17

Thumbwitch - thank you, that's been bothering me for years grin

And yes it was Jen that went out with Phil (another mystery solved).

Something that bothered me about Madge, aside from her sounding like she needed to clear her throat, was the way she pronounced appreciate. Appre-see-ate <pointless rage>

leftmymistletoeatthedoor Fri 20-Jan-12 13:46:28

Madge was on Justins house recently!!!!

BerryLellow Fri 20-Jan-12 13:48:55

She's in Emmerdale or something over here isn't she? Like Marilyn from Home and Away.

Oh another Neighbours query - there was an older woman character a few years ago, no idea who she was, I think she may have been allegedly British. I had myself convinced she was Daphne's mum from Frasier, but I may be way off there.

Thumbwitch Fri 20-Jan-12 14:37:59

Berry, do you mean Valda? She was played by Joan Sydney and was Lynn Scully's aunt. She does look a bit like Millicent Martin, who played Daphne's mum in Frasier, but they're not the same person of course. smile

BerryLellow Fri 20-Jan-12 15:38:51

grin I have no idea if that's who I mean or not! I was fairly certain I was making it up.

Sevenfold Fri 20-Jan-12 17:26:22

Valda turned out to be Lyns mum

HarrietJones Fri 20-Jan-12 19:02:50

Flick was holly valance wasn't she?

Sevenfold Fri 20-Jan-12 22:31:09

yep, she was terrible

Thumbwitch Fri 20-Jan-12 22:36:29

That's right, Seven, she did. Wiki neglected to mention that bit immediately when I checked to see if she was Lyn's aunt or mum - it was lurking in the depths of my brain but Wiki overrode it!

HungryHelga Fri 20-Jan-12 22:43:25
CelstialNavigation Fri 20-Jan-12 22:45:09

You can have a whole evening of watching retro neighbours by indulging in one of those highlights dvds from amazon for a few quid.

Mine featured Todd's death and Steph on her wedding day finding out her new husband had been having an affair with Flick. Also Daphne giving birth and dying. Many people dying come to think of it. And people with amnesia. Its very enjoyable escapism if you're slighty tipsy at the time.

TheSmallClanger Fri 20-Jan-12 22:56:07

Sometime in the 1990s someone had a long-lost son or brother called Ben who was a racing driver. He had a nasty accident but recovered. I was quite impressed with the actor who played him, as he walked awkwardly and came across as all tired and flustered for months, like someone who had really had a high-speed car accident.

Normally, a night in that one room they have in Erinsbrough Hospital and some dramatic scenes with IV lines are enough to cure any ailment, as long as you don't die from it. Karl Kennedy is also the only doctor in the whole town. Lovely doomed Nurse Dee was the only nurse until Toadie drove her off a cliff by accident.

CelstialNavigation Fri 20-Jan-12 23:02:20

I was terrified Dee (complete with amnesia) was going to emerge from the waves when Toadie went and sat on the beach, the day before his wedding to Steph.

<the first time, when they were actually together and getting married, until he refused at the altar>

Sevenfold Fri 20-Jan-12 23:07:41
TheSmallClanger Fri 20-Jan-12 23:37:38

That'll be the one. Sounds like the lad that played him wasn't in anything else. Shame.

Groovee Sat 21-Jan-12 09:24:07

alistron1 Sat 21-Jan-12 11:01:38

I remember Cody (version 2 with the red hair who got shot) going out with the evil Michael Martin. And I rember Cody (version 1) breaking the heart of poor old Todd. And I sobbed when Todd got killed on his mad dash to stop Phoebe having an abortion.

I loved the instant justice handed out in neighbours. A single shag = pregnancy, a crafty fag = a house fire and death was always only an out of control car/plane journey/collapsing building away grin And just how many people got paralysed or went blind??

I loved the karl/Izzy storyline, she was soooo eviiiiill!! I have nursed a crush on karl kennedy for many years.

I don't get the casting in neighbours at the moment (am still watching it! blush ) of Jade and Sonia as sisters. Are they supposed to be half sisters? There's no mention of it as far as I know. Have to sayjade is one of my least favourite characters ever. ("I don't do girl shit and if I shag your boyfriend and you don't like it that's because you're a dumb girl and I don't care.)

BupcakesandCuntWorms Mon 23-Jan-12 13:56:15

Just watching Neighbours now and MALCOLM KENNEDY seems to have returned!

FoofFighter Mon 23-Jan-12 13:57:25

Watching also for the first time in years inspired by this lovely thread smile

Malcolm has barely aged at all!

FoofFighter Mon 23-Jan-12 14:04:29

are Karl and Susan back together now? Why isn't she the headteacher anymore?

BupcakesandCuntWorms Mon 23-Jan-12 14:05:44

Didn't Susan have a bad head injury one time and had terrible memory loss?

silverfrog Mon 23-Jan-12 14:09:57

hasn't Susan got MS?

yes, she did have amnesia at one point, I think. can't remember how/why though!

FoofFighter Mon 23-Jan-12 14:48:41

Yes she had some brain thing going on, that was around the last time I watched it. Brain tumour maybe? Will see if I can google it. Cause I have lots of not a lot of things I need to do this afternoon

javo Mon 23-Jan-12 14:51:21

Susan slipped in her kitchen and banged her head on the tiled floor - she thought she was 18 again and divorced Karl (again), she had to give up being the head at the school but retrained alongside Libby to be a teacher again - gradually ( after about 2months??) her memory returned and she fell in love with and married Karl again!

BupcakesandCuntWorms Mon 23-Jan-12 14:51:48

Retrograde amnesia according to Wikipedia.

Was sure there was a head injury involved. I am sure she feel off some stepladders actually.

BupcakesandCuntWorms Mon 23-Jan-12 14:53:47

Ah, no. She slipped on some spilt milk.

BupcakesandCuntWorms Mon 23-Jan-12 14:54:13

Fuckit, read before posting.

Thanks, Javo! grin

FoofFighter Mon 23-Jan-12 15:05:17

Ah thank you smile

I did try to watch Home and Away today too but it was all young 'uns and didn't appeal.

BupcakesandCuntWorms Mon 23-Jan-12 15:57:13

I saw Home and Away too. It was terrible.

No Flat Head (Don Fisher), no Ailsa, no Pippa, no Lance and Martin... sad
