In public! I fucking hate it, Im so sick of seeing lads with both their hands down their pants in the street pulling/fiddling/rubbing or whatever with their cock/balls/both.

I really belong on grumpy old women

Erm, no you don't belong on grumpy old women.

It's really not acceptable to play with your genitalia in public.

FFS.

I thought this was going to be another football/tennis thread.

YANBU, apart from anything else it's not hygenic.

see I don't think its acceptable at all but I see it so often I was wondering if it is just the norm these days [rolls eyes]

They don't even realise they are doing it half the time

When their eyes glaze over, you know they are in the "zone", the genital-juggling zone

Where do you live? I cannot say that I have noticed men playing with their genitalia in public here.

Nothing grumpy old woman about objecting to that, it is disgusting.

We were in a queue at Chessington a few weeks ago and the dad in front of us kept doing this. God knows what underwear he had on, must have been very uncomfortable.

I blame men in tracksuits. The access is too easy and they just get absent-minded...a proper three-piece trousersuit would eliminate the problem.

I spent the first 5 years of DS's life saying "Leave your willy alone", "why are you holding your willy? do you need the toilet". He has gotten it now but little boys just love their willies.

Even my 12 week old likes a good fiddle if his nappy is not on.

I understood the OP meant grown men, not little boys.

I think it's one of those urban youf things, like crossing the road in groups very slowly so as to force the oncoming traffic to slow down and thus assert the only power they have.

It could be a secret Mumsnet password type thing? We could all start walking around with our hands down our pants?

well I bet dustycup's guest would have thought twice if she'd shoved her hands down her skirt

I think some guys have pretty severe jock-itch, my DH suffers from this, and he would probably fold in 2 with the discomfort of the itch rather than scratch in public, but still, it is excruciating, apparently, the severety of the itch!

Having said that he tried all the creams and potions, went to the doctor etc, its nowt to do with cleanliness or anything like that, but in the end what is holding it (pardon the pun) is he dries the area with MY hairdryer (for quite a long time at 5:45 in the morning I might add) and that is what does it. Now of course he was drying it before thorougly with a towel etc but I suppose its just not the same as the hairdryer thing. So if anyone's DH is a sufferer, that's the way forward. I also thing a wee puff of Athlete's foot powder once blow dried to perfection cannot do any harm.

On the subject of little boys, I make my son stop what he's doing, and go and wash and dry his hands each time I see him with his hand down there. He's getting to that age where he isn't really about handwashing, so this is working a treat in stamping out this most undesirable pastime.

I could be wrong here, not being a psychologist but aren't you setting up your poor little boy for some serious psycho-sexual issues when he's older?

Loads of the teenagers/men in their twenties round here do it [Birmingham]. Almost always wearing tracksuits - as someone else said, easy access. You do just have to wonder though - how on earth do they get to that stage of life without having countless people say, "Stop doing that in public!"?

My mate complains whenever he sees one and mimics them, and it never fails to crack me up laughing, because it does just look so ridiculous. It's basically like they're saying, "I have regressed to the level of a two year old who is incapable of leaving my genitals alone without being told to."

bran · 23/06/2010 23:20

I don't think they're doing it because of jock itch Sloany. It's more a statement of them being so cool and uncaring that they can fly in the face of social mores. They either want to make the people around them uncomfortable (as with the road-crossing) or they just see no social advantage to be gained by being seemly (what old-fashioned word) in public.
