18 month old DS has a sticky eye so the Dr gave me some ointment for his eye. Here are the instructions if you were giving it to yourself.

  1. Pull lower lid away from eye, to make a pocket

  1. Gentle squeeze 1/2 and inch of ointment into the pocket

  1. At no point should the nozzle touch the eye, or your hands touch the nozzle.

Eh?! How on earth do you manage that with a toddler?!

It would be difficult with a cooperative adult!

I used to wait until they were asleep- much easier !

Its impossible !! The best you can hope for is getting it somewhere in the general vicinity of the eye whilst holding them down, restraining their arms and legs and trying to ignore their screams. Its awful....Good luck !

Go back and get drops if possible instead. You can drip them onto closed eyes and it seeps in.

Thanks everyone

He gave me eye drops too and they seem to be doing the trick. I had one attempt at the ointment, decided it was a ridiculous idea and gave up.

Put some on a cotton bud.

Wait until he's asleep.

Smear it on the corners of his eyes - when he wakes, he will rub it in.

Just like colditz says - wait til he's asleep, apply on cotton wool bud to corner of the eye where tear duct is and leave

Clean it with cooled, boiled salt water and cotton wool. Ointment and drops in bin. They're not believed to make an ounce of difference by a lot of health professionals.
