to still be dwelling on my 3 year old's stolen scooter

I know I'm being unreasonable. I'd like advice on how to stop being unreasonable please.
My 3yo dd's scooter was taken from the school bike sheds on her third day attending the nursery school there.
I'm still so hacked off even though it was a month ago. I've already shelled out for another one because we don't have a car & a scooter helps her get about really quickly. The problem is, every time I see a little pink minimicro I think, "Is that dd's?" and it's given me a horrible mistrust of the school, which I know is unreasonable. I know that there are so many worse things that can happen... how do I shake the hacked offness? HELP!

Did you report it to the police, get a crime number and claim on your insurance? That might make you feel a bit better.

Also, you could ask the school to send out a letter to all parents warning them that thieves are about, so they should consider either locking bikes/scooters up or take them home with them during the day.

TBH I would never have left dd's scooter at school - I would have expected it to be stolen.

it is a sad picture of our society today dont you think that nothing is safe anymore.

We had a bike stolen from our back garden, and when I reported it to the police they came across as annoyed when I said I did not have insurance for it so was not interested in Crime number, their responce was "so why did you call it"

Anyway the cheeky fecker who nicked rides around on it without a care in the world, it is a teenanger and I have seen him on it several times, but the thing is if I go after him I will be the one who is arrested, as I doubt he will give it up without a scuffle.

We leave all our bikes and scooters at school.Occasionally the wrong one is taken,but always gets returned in a day or so....
I've even taken the wrong one by mistake too

I do worry about the Mini Micro scooter as they are very sought after,and not cheap.But I would claim as 3littleFrogs says.

Mym push along dog was stolen from me by "big boys" when I was 2....

My Mum STILL is angry about it....its not the dog per se, its that someone could do that to her child....

Thanks for your replies everybody! It would have been a good idea to claim on my home insurance but I think that, being a tightwad, I got a cheaper quote by raising the excess beyond the price of a scooter. Oh well. Thanks for giving me the space to vent though. I'm now more angry about AllTogetherInTheTeamBaths... 's push along dog! I mean that one probably had a name! How can anybody steal something with a name? Dd liked her scooter, but she never named it. Although... having to explain to a 3yo that they can't scoot home because their scooters done a runner is depressing. I must stop giving the evil eye to everyone with one of those scooters though because that isn't good.

It doesn't help with the theft ( for you, still resentful of the gits who nicked my bike when I was 14 after I'd saved up for 6 months for it, plus birhtday and christmas present status), but you can get personalising coloured bits for the ubiquitous mini-micros - helps you to id your own, and may make it less nickable. DS's has green handlebar grips and green brake, DD's has red. We can always find them in the park!

Thanks Nightlark! I have customised her new scooter in a hilariously overstated way with stickers, but I didn't know about the handlebars etc... I was thinking of etching a message on it too with my pair of compasses like I used to with my own school stuff 20 odd years back. Very sorry to hear about your bike. You've said it right. These thieves are GITS.

Ds1 once built himself a bike (with dh's help) using a really good bike frame he'd got for a song on ebay - it was his pride and joy. He'd only been riding it for 10 days when some bastard followed him home from the park and nicked it from the back garden. We know it couldn't have been someone who just happened to see it in passing, because it was totally invisible from the road, and we had a big side-gate - so they musht have followed him.

He was careless not to lock the sidegate, but he was devastated at losing this bike.
