to think cyclists on country lanes are selfish gits

Ok not talking about children, people nipping around town or coming back from the pub.IMHO thats who bikes were designed for.
I just hate those people who use country lanes to do their time trials and cycle up and down the same hill to make their calves bigger than their brains.

Roads surely were designed to get people from A to B. They weren't designed to be a fitness track or a playground. I really resent getting stuck behind some lyric clad arse (and they are ususally in packs) at 20 miles an hour. I can't overtake cos it's a country lane you see. I'm not a speed freak, I am happy to slow down for horses or to be behind a tractor. The differnce is they are meant to be there. I don't think townie gits who have nothing better to do should clog up our country lanes when they could use country parks or dual carriageways.I wouldn't mind if they even appreciated the countryside they go through but I don't think I've ever seen one stopping to have a picnic or looking at the wildlife. It;s head down with those stupid glasses and clothes that would scare the animals

There are so many on a Sunday where I live that it's getting dangerous. Still it'll be the poor motorist blamed for going about their business rather than the cyclist won't it.

They wouldn't get a very good score if they stopped for a picnic. YABVU

YANBU. It was guys on bikes training rowers where I used to live which were a nightmare. They rode at a great rate of knotts, looking not ahead but at the rowers and were forever careering into toddlers and dogs.

I cycle but I hope that I can boast a little more common sense and courtesy.

YABVU. They have just as much right to use the roads as you do. How do you know that they don't appreciate the countryside that they are travelling through? How safe do you think they'd be on a dual carriageway?

Oh I soooo agree....
I live on a single lane tourist road in the middle of nowhere..t'is cycle heaven and come the summer weekends packs of selfish road hoggers swarm all over, struggling up the hills, 2, 3 abreast whilst I sit behind them for miles and miles.
drives me blardy crazy

YABVU roads are for cyclists not only for cars. And for those who dont drive, bycicles get us from A to B and may be our only mode of transport. Not every road has cycle lanes. Selfish car users then!

I have no problem with people using bikes as a means of transport, but the sodding sunday ones are a pain

But how do you know they're not getting from A to B themselves? And can't cyclists be getting from A to B on a Sunday?

We complain when people slob in front of the tv not doing excercise and getting fat, then when they do we criticise them no win!

You are so not being unreasonable. Whizz by without a care in the world for anybody else. Stupid bright clothes and can't stop, oh no, because my timing is sooo important. Twats.

Well dh cycles to work along country roads in lycra. Sundays too. He's commuting and staying fit, not like you, you heart attack in waiting. Oh sorry, was that rude?

And I don't drive. If I don't cycle, I don't go out.

YABVU to assume they're doing time trials. How do you know they're not getting from A to B?

OP, do you also whinge about horses, pedestrians, slow drivers, new drivers?...what are you doing on the road on a Sunday that makes your trip more valid?

We get the yellow jerseys down our lane too. Totally different to those people who are cycling from A-B or for a nice ride out, they're not using the road in that way - they really want to be on a circuit track. They are rude and arrogant and enjoy being obstructive. Plus it pees me off what bad language they use (typically, often when we have DCs in the garden).

ok, here's another thought - why do cyclists not use the cycle lanes? Near where I live there are cycle lanes on the pavement yet cyclists still insist on going on the road. The roads round here are very, very busy and I just don't understand why they don't use the lanes that where designed for them!

Are all the cars that drive down your road on the way to somewhere important or might some just be out for a drive and to look at the country side? A fit cyclist can do 60 miles or more in a day, that would be many laps of most country parks.

I used to cycle to work before becoming a SAHM. I tried to use the cycle lanes on the pavement but couldn't because of the people. Dog walkers, children being walked to school, toddlers, pushchairs etc. In the end I figured that it was better that I took my chances on the road than risked the small children wandering along the cycle lane. And the abuse I got for cycling near said children sometimes.

Oh god, the 40 mile monospeeder bloody drivers are 1000 times worse than any cyclist on country lanes.

I live in Milton Keynes which is cycle heaven as there is a fantastic redway network for pedestrians and cyclists which i use. But if if there are no cycle lanes I am afraid it the road, or being berrated by pedestrians for using the pavement when i should be using the road.

YABVU.

My dh is a cyclist (his sport is road cycling and he dos time trials) He ias a tx payer too and has a right to use the roads as much as anyone else. Motorists with attitudes like this really piss me off. My dh tells me so real horror stories of selfish car drivers nearly taking cyclists off their bikes. FFS cyclists on any road are vulnerable, you are in a car, they are not. Please be patient and always give them safe. They are taking part in an ctivity that is keeping them fit and is better fo the envronment and to say they do not enjoy the country side is ridiculous, of course they do.

Umm horses are alright but not cyclists ?
YABVU.
You are not more important than anyone else everyone has a right to use the road.
